Hiei: Can I put her out of my misery?
Kurama: You mean her misery?
Hiei: *smirk* No, this is pretty miserable for me…
Kurama: *sweatdrop*
Sitting on a Stranger's Shelf
You look directly at Genkai and say, "I don't know. And I don't care for all the good it's done me." You wiggle a bit under the man's grasp, but he adds pressure to your arms and hips, and again you relax, letting a sigh pass your lips. Why did you suddenly feel safe?
"Look, Kit, something was keeping us out of your room, don't play dumb if you know anything," said Yusuke, who stepped up to the bed and was giving you hard eyes-interrogation eyes. Kit, given to you by the prie…your father. You don't want it. In fact you hate it. You resolve to change it as soon as you have time to sit and think about it.
You're so angry. Why do they keep asking you all these questions? Can't they just stop? You said you don't know, do they think you are a liar? Of course they do. They think you're crazy of course. Genkai is frowning sadly. Why does she even care? She doesn't understand, none of them do! They still didn't understand that you should be dead now, and even went so far as to keep you from you destiny even now. You had accepted death, and right now you should be swimming in oblivion, unaware of the grisly truth about your birth and death.
"I don't know," you repeat blandly, once against testing your captor's strength and writhing against him. He grips you tighter, bringing a fresh surge of pain shooting up your arms, and the sting is warmly familiar. You catch Kurama's green eyes watching you curiously, drinking you in.
"Hiei," Genkai says softly at last. "Let her go." The man releases you abruptly, and you're not even sure you really saw him move. Just suddenly he is standing by the shattered window, looking out into the night, hands hanging loosely at his sides- shining with gloves of red. You almost laugh, after all he's wearing you, your blood is thick on him.
There is some piece of you that wishes again for his violence, and you stare at his hands, unable to turn back to the pity the others wear in their eyes, bearing down on you, making you fidget uncomfortably. You don't understand it, why should these people pity you a few self-inflicted scratches? You spent _(your age)_ years awaiting death, and all you ever saw on the faces of those around you was awe and scorn. Gently you rise into a sitting position, consoled slightly by the throbbing sting of your arms.
"I don't know how I got here," you state softly, trying to ignore their sympathetic eyes, "I don't even know where here is. I don't know…"
"What is it about us that scares you so much?" Kurama whispers from his place in the corner. His eyes are closed with his chin resting lightly on his chest.
"What do you mean?" you murmur, suddenly painfully aware of the tremblin in your words.
Kurama peers at you a moment through half opened eyes. "You look at us all like any moment we're about to tear you to pieces. But when Hiei held you, no doubt causing you real physical pain, you looked at peace."
Your throat hurts, and your eyes burn as you gently run your fingers above the scratches on your arms. Every eye, including Hiei's turn to you, their expressions all painfully similar. They couldn't figure you out. Well good, who needed their understanding anyway?
Doing your best to put on a brave face you say, "It's what I'm used to." You look away, not caring if they get it or not. They don't need to. You simply cannot abide their sympathy any longer.
Genkai is the one to reply, and her voice is cool, distant, holding not even a trace of pity. It eases your nerves a little. "Tell us about the sacrifice, Kit."
You don't want to talk about it. After all you just found out all the circumstances surrounding you death for yourself. Who are these people that they should know anything about it? It's not their business. But most importantly at the moment you want solitude. You want them to leave you to your sorrow for a while, until you can overcome it. If telling them is the only way to get them to leave, so be it.
"This scar," you say, opening your shirt just enough for them to see, "is the place where the holy dagger split open my chest, straight to the stone below. This is where the life leaked from my body. I died, okay, I was dead!" There are angry tears on your cheeks, but you don't even bother to wipe them away, and the glare on your face dares anyone to say something.
Genkai, however, is unfazed as she replies, "But you are not dead, Kit." Does she think this is funny? Yeah, great joke. She thinks you are crazy. You should have known they wouldn't believe a word of it. It makes you so angry you begin shaking. "Botan," she says, never taking her eyes off you. A woman with crazy blue hair bounds forward. "Go ahead and tell Koenma. He should know what to do about this."
"Right, I'm on it!" The from out of nowhere she pulls an oar, which she hops on, and flies out the window.
"Kitev bless me! What in the five hells was that!?" you shout, pointing frantically.
"She is the ferrywoman to the land of the dead," Genkai explains somberly, much to the surprise of most of your company.
"What? There's no ferrywoman to the land of the dead!" You shake your head as you try to remember. "The dead are carried to the Halls of Justice on the back of a golden dragon."
Genkai shakes her head. "Forget what you've been told, girl. You're not at home anymore, and things around here are different. Get used to it."
