Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Strings ❯ Now Let's See You Dance... ( Chapter 8 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Me: I don't own it(YYH), I do however own 'it' and it sure seems like 'it' owns you. So by two degrees of seperation… ~_^

Hiei: onna…you will tell me immediately what you have done to my room. *makes a sweeping gesture over his room*

Me: *looks around* Well I know how much you like bunnies…so I put up the pale pink wallpaper and the bunnies around the trim. OH! Then I got you those stuffed bunnies! See how pretty they are on your new bunny bed spread?

Hiei: *glaring dangerously* You are a fiend…I will find a way to get revenge *storms off seething*

~Now Let's See You Dance

***

Last: You feel you must look quite terrifying in your white night gown, hair disheveled, bruised and unkempt, smiling like a lunatic. You can't bring yourself to care.

"It was my father's," you reply at last.

Hiei raises his eyebrow at you. "Your father's?"

You nod and stare down at the tattered book in your hands. If the answers you need are anywhere to be found, they would be in the pages of this holy book. The God Book contains spells and knowledge that the five great deities passed down to their High Priests. You only glimpsed it once, when Kitev's priest preformed your formal initiation into the order. You were eight.

You place your right hand over the ancient lettering and say, "Rematho(repair)." A gentle chill races down your arm spreading out from your fingertips to slide across the tired leather and wilted pages. The book pulses once against your palm, and you watch as the pages fill out and brighten. The leather sighs and grows soft and sturdy once more. Where the gold lettering had faded flares to life, and shines with a fresh glossy coat once more.

You haven't used the divine in such a manner since weeks before your death, and the return of something normal is a blessing. The spell is simple and short, and yet you feel the tearing of sadness as it fades, desperately wanting to cling to the power that flares through you. But you know better than to try and hold it, priests have gone mad doing so, but you relish every ounce as it fades.

Hiei is watching you with those fierce crimson eyes, slightly wide. "What are you?" he demands again.

You still have no idea how to answer that question. What else could you be? You're you, a bastard child until recently, and what else is there? You're just a girl right? You search his face for any hint of the answer he is hunting for. But there is a look on his face of utter confusion; it doesn't suit him. 'What am I?' you wonder. 'I am a dead priestess…or at least I'm supposed to be. So who am I now? Am I still a priestess? Am I still anything? I am…' Your mind doesn't want to wrap around these questions any longer, even to solve them. So you give the simplest answer.

"I am a priestess," you say. It's the only answer you have, and it's not good enough. He glares at you.

"But you're ki keeps changing. Not just the normal changes…it's like it alters completely. No priestess, no demon can change their ki." His final assertion seems to be more for his benefit than yours, but what can you say?

You don't know what a 'ki' is, let alone how it changes or what that might mean. You start to ask him, but then think better of it. You doubt you'd get a straight answer, especially with him so suspicious. Not that he shouldn't be. You just appear one day, badly injured, and are taken in by his friends. They know nothing about you but the story you've told, and they've no good reason to trust your word. Looking around you begin to doubt it yourself.

It's terribly late, you notice, and the air is slithering across your skin, frightfully cold. It's made worse by the patina of perspiration on your skin. You don't know why you're sweating at all, you're certainly very cold. You get a sudden chill, rocking you so fiercely you almost drop the book. You clutch the book desperately, praying half-heartedly to Kitev that the answers you need lie within.

"Let's go back." Your voice is soft even to you. There's a hollow feeling in your gut, only slightly less noticeable than the ache of fatigue rolling over your body. How could you not have noticed it before? Then you notice- Hiei's eyes have shifted to your arms and narrowed.

He grabs your wrist violently, probing your skin with gruff fingers. "Where are they?" he growls. "Your cuts, where did they go?"

"Stop," you say meekly. You can't find the strength to be afraid.

"Explain!"

"I don't know."

"Liar!" he sneers. He reaches up to untie the white bandana around his forehead. You wonder why he took time to put that on, while leaving behind his cloak in his haste to follow you. Suddenly your weariness is gone, washed away on a rush of adrenaline. Fear socks you twice in the gut, paralyzing you. You don't want him to remove that bandana! All your instincts are roaring within you: Do something!

Then 'it' is back, pulsing through you so forcefully that Hiei is cast backwards. You can't move, can barely think past 'it' as it seizes control of you once more. Hiei has crouched into a fighting stance. Your eyes are wide, you can feel them, and no doubt they are reflecting every nuance of fear you're feeling. It's the most horrible feeling, being trapped within your own skin, watching things go on about you. You're body moves at the will of some alien force, and it is powerful enough to choke on. You would gasp, if not for lacking control over your mouth. All you still seem to control are your eyes, and even they don't want to budge, swollen in horror.

You're sliding under wave after wave of power as it pulses like a second heartbeat, trying to shove you away completely, and suddenly control over your eyes becomes terribly important. You can't let it go, and so you fight 'it' with every ounce of strength you can muster, every second that you lose your grip, knowing it's worthless. Soon your eyes will no longer be yours. If only you could scream, just once. But screaming won't help you, it never has before…but gods how you wish you could.

You hear a voice. It's distant and muffled, but there. Then, with a shock, you realize the voice is coming from your lips, and it is not your own.

"Aloh krai set, meir rok thei drowa tai." It's a complicated spell, one you don't recognize. But you know the Divine well enough to understand that Hiei should be very worried. It's the last thing you recall before everything

fades

away.

Me: <.< So Hiei wandered off, and I'll admit I'm kinda nervous…I didn't think he'd hate the bunnies that much, you know? Ah well.

Kurama: Ametank…I think you should be worried.

Me: Oh?

Kurama: *nods solemnly* I think Hiei is transforming your room into a torture chamber.

Me: *blink blink*

Kurama: I know…perhaps you should go sooth his temp-

Me: THAT'S SO KEWL!

Kurama: o_O;;; eh Ametank…is it kewl to be on the victim's end of those torture devices?

Me: O.O oh… *meep*

- Oki. Here's how I'm going to do things. If you haven't seen on my bio page, I'm setting up a regular schedule with my stories. This will be updated on Wednesdays from now on (hopefully). So that's when you should expect this fic. The latest will be Thursday EARLY(1, 2, 3 am) morning, but probably not until August will I fall into that bad habit ~_^

- Next Order of business, I'd like to thank andromedacblack for her lovely threat ~_^ It seems this Hiei fan will resort to violence if I don't make him the object of your affections hehe. On that note, I have another CYOA in the work that I will begin after I finish Strings that will be with the fellow you don't get here. Also I hope those of you who don't get who you want will keep reading! There's much mystery to be uncovered yet!

- Finally. Next week- I'm not posting at all. In fact, I'm not going to write a single page of literature for the entire week. Think of it as a vacation because whether you realize it or not I've been writing tons over the past two months and it's catching up to me(like I'm having really weird dreams ^_^;;) and I need the chance to refresh my brain (and give my hands a rest) So next week, no posts! Don't hate me *hides behind a rock*
