Chapter 2

Leaning against a tree, Kuwabara panted from exertion. His sweat matted strings of hair to his pale face, and slicked the cold metal cradled in his hands. He hadn't expected to see Kurama there. He thought it would be funny to finish the old joke. "Bang". Instead he'd run into Kurama and probably set him on the alert. If I'm really lucky Kurama will just pass it off as another stupid act by Kuwabaka. The young man sighs remembering his reasons for being here. I should just get it over with, before anyone shows up. It'd be too hard to explain this away.

Slowly he raised the burned barrel of the cobalt pistol to his head when a figure came running through the foliage. He didn't have time to think, he didn't need to- he fired. Kurama has enough time for one thought- `Bang'. He fell heavily to the ground eyes glazed and hair a tumbled. Kuwabara kneeled down briefly to check for vital signs he knew weren't there. He'd felt the rush of Kurama's dual soul fly away. Standing quickly he placed the gun back at his temple and fired. Somewhere far away a woman screamed.

"Damn you Kuwabara!!! Why'd you have to kill both of you?!" Yuusuke was livid even more so than Hiei which was saying something. "Yuusuke it was obviously an accident, Kuwawbara didn't mean to shoot Kurama. We can only hope the spirit world courts will see that." Botan was holding up pretty well more so than Keiko or Yukina. Shizuru was at home refusing to have anything more to do with the Rei-Tei. "Oh, yeah Botan?! Then tell me was it an accident he shot himself ?! How do you think that'll go over in Spirit World?!" The ferry girl's calm assurance faltered replaced with a worried expression. "Yuusuke…I can't say, but I hope he'll be okay. If only for Shizuru's sake."

In the bravura chamber of the Spirit World court Kuwabara Kazuma stood trial for the actions of his life. Suddenly the pretense of serenity was shattered by the forceful entry of Youko Kurama. "You pompous asses will have to find another toy for your amusement this one is mine." A sudden burst of laughter surprised everyone. "Thanks for the rescue Kurama, but I'm no one's fool. Not any more, I'm my own person now." Disabling his spirit cuffs he disappeared back to the spirit world.

A predatory grin sprung to Kurama's face, the thrill of the hunt awaken inside his heart. The chase is on as the Fox trails Kazuma through the catacombs of Spirit World. His quarry bought time by darting though a graveyard. The aroused spirits delayed the hunter by enough to let his prey make it home. His sister sat on the floor staring ahead at nothing. "Sis!" Startled her head snapped up eyes wide. "Baby brother?" Slowly Kazuma materialized. "Sis there's not much time and I need your help. Kurama is after me along with a bunch of spirit world goons. This wasn't the shit I expected when I decided to end my life!"

His sister's eyes darken with emotion. "Well maybe you should have thought it out better! How could you leave me like that?! After everything we've been though, everything we promised, all the plans we made- you just run away!!! Now you want my help like nothing's changed? Forget it, I'm not Yukina and you're not Hiei!" The silence is awkward. "Okay sis I'm sorry to have troubled you, but I'm not sorry I left." He began to fade. "Not so fast baby brother…If you enter me you'll have a kind of amnesty. And I'm at the point where I could conceive if I slept with someone…" The expression on Kazuma's face gave it a kind of austere beauty. "I can't let you do that- make that kind of sacrifice. Not on my behalf after everything I've done. There must be another way if I look for it." "How noble, brave Kuwabara sacrificing such a gift to protect his sister's worthless honor. It's just as well I refuse to allow you to escape. Not after you've caused me to lose my own body. Say goodbye Kazuma your soul belongs to me." A vortex of energy surrounded both spirits bringing them together. Kurama wrapped his arms around Kazuma. "Pa-ga-wa San-fa!" The Tao magic attack blasted Kurama away allowing Kazuma to enter Shizuru's womb. She turned abruptly running out the door and down the stairs never looking back.
