Chapter 11: Before the Death of a Princess
*************************************************************** *********
"The princess is WHAT?" Yusuke yelled at the top of his lungs.
"She… she can't be dead! How could that happened?" Botan shuffled her feet around.
"I'm not going to repeat myself," Zan's tears threatened to escape, but were pathetically held back, refrained from falling.
I… I can't let them see me cry… I don't want them to see me cry… I'm stronger then that… no tears, no crying, I'll be strong, I don't need a replay of what happened when I was at Rinka's grave… Zan forced her tears to remain lingering in her eyes.
Meanwhile Yusuke was on a rampage, punching the ground, and cussing out words… and also sometimes saying, `how is this possible?' or, `there is no way she is dead,' or `this never happened before, how the hell are we gonna figure this problem out? Damnit!' and other things like that, with some cussing involved. This went on for about 5 minutes. Everyone just watched him, until the very end.
"Feel better now?" Kuwabara asked Yusuke.
"Yeah, I think that calmed me down a lot, so anyways, how the hell did she die?" Yusuke looked at Zan.
"Zan, are telling us the truth? If this is a joke it's not funny," Kurama stared into Zan's energy drained face.
"Why… would I joke about… a friends death?" Zan stared at the ground, straining herself from letting any tears from escaping.
"Hn, so this `mission' was a complete and utter waist," Hiei spat venomously.
"Koenma will not be happy about this," Botan whispered to herself.
Mission? Koenma? Could it be that they are those spirit detectives? Zan thought.
"How could this have happened? Tell me, how did she die?" Kurama calmly asked Zan, slightly comforting her.
Zan sat silent for a while. She looked up deep in though looking from Kurama to Botan, from Botan to Yusuke, from Yusuke to Kuwabara, from Kuwabara to Yukina, and from Yukina, to Hiei. The she looked at Kurama once more, and took one shallow breath.
"First of all, before I answer any questions, how do you know about the princess anyways? Because if you know about her, it's obvious you have connections with either the Reikai or the Makai. What did you want with her in the first place, and what are you going to do about her death? I need to know, because I'm not about to dispose any information to people or demons that are looking for her to do harm to the world." Zan glared at the spirit detectives.
"Well, Koenma wanted to protect her, and keep the spirit demon and fire demon race alive," Botan stated.
"There are other fire demons out in the world. It just happens that Reikai intelligence has no records about fire demons, because they are all very secretive to a point. As for the spirit demons… it's not a race. It's a gift or a curse of the soul. The curse is the test. The power is the gift. There are demons who posses this very rare power, and to attain that power, they must go through the test of the soul. Few live through that test. Besides, spirit demons can be any demon, and as a matter of fact, there are some humans that have encountered that gift. So being a spirit demon is a wrong statement, it should be called something like the soul gift or something like that. It is a gift of the soul, nothing else… So you don't have to worry about any race extinctions…" Zan spat.
"I don't think even King Enma knew that…" Botan mumbled.
"So the Reikai has given us the wrong information… again," Hiei mumbled.
"Are those the only reasons you needed Rinka? Cause if that's true then you can forget about me telling you anything." Zan's tear ceased to attempting to leave her emerald eyes, and courage flowed through Zan's body. Anger started to be mixed into the cloud of emotions Zan was going through.
"Gee, what's with the sudden mood swing?" Yusuke back away.
"Hm? Why am I so angry? Maybe I don't want to tell you." Zan glared once more at Yusuke.
Hm, what would Koenma want with Rinka? If it's not a good reason they can forget it… I don't trust spirit detectives after the incident… and I HATE Koenma, but then again, he had different spirit detectives… So maybe I should give them a chance… yeah I guess, I should give them a chance, they seem… different, and I think that Hiei doesn't like Koenma either, I wonder why? Oh well, I should well just give them a try… I guess I should be nicer to them… Zan Stared into space.
"Zan?" Yusuke walked over and started poking her.
"Zan?" he started to shake her. Everybody just watched. Yukina sat quietly beside Zan watching everything, and thinking about what will happen to her master.
"Huh? Oh, sorry… I zoned, out, sorry… sorry about the outbursts…" Zan rubbed her head, because when Yusuke shook her head hit the tree behind her.
"You really are moody," Yusuke mumbled.
"It's just when it comes to Rinka and her death… well, I get all weird…" Zan sighed. She felt tears sting her eyes, but they were immediately sucked up.
No tears, no tears, no tears, no tears… Zan chanted in her mind.
"I didn't want to bring this up, but… well, another reason was that the 5 demons of darkness were after her… and I hope you understand from there, Koenma just wanted to protect her." Botan sighed.
"Oh… fine, I guess that was a good reason to look for her," Zan sighed.
"Hn, the five demons of darkness wasting there time on a stupid princess, how pathetic," Hiei spat.
"Oh my god, for once can NOT make some rude comment? I don't care about everything else but… I am even going to say please, so, Hiei, please don't make fun of my friend, because she meant a lot and now she's gone, so please?" Zan forced herself to speak kindly to Hiei.
How pathetic… stupid humans and their foolish emotions, Hiei thought.
Hiei just looked and Zan, then he looked away, indicating that he won't say another word.
I would read her mind but I bet there's nothing there to read, Hiei side-glanced Zan.
"Wait a sec, Zan how are YOU connected to the Makai and Reikai?" Kuwabara pointed at the girl.
"Isn't the fact that I am a master in healing enough for you?" Zan slightly cocked her head to the side, keeping up a tough act.
"Master?" Yukina quietly addressed Zan.
"Yes Yukina?" Zan gently answered, her tough act had dropped completely.
"Well, since you can heal so well, are you a demon?"
"If I were a demon, do you really think I'd waist my time at school?" Zan laughed.
"Ok," Yukina smiled, a glint of joy was in her eyes.
"Well, for your information, I'm human," Zan looked at the emerald grass that grew beside her.
At least… until that seal is broken… a shallow thought floated through Zan's mind.
"Hm, that was a good point," Kurama looked at Yukina.
"Eh, good `nuff for me," Yusuke sighed, "Zan, brings up a good point, if she were a demon, would she really go to school?"
"I wouldn't go to school if I were a demon," Zan looked at Yusuke, but with her tough act back in action.
Gees, I wouldn't have ever thought that keeping up a `tough act' was so hard… Zan leaned against the tree behind her.
"The five demons of darkness? Who are they?" Kuwabara questioned.
"Koenma will explain later, but right now, Zan, I beg you, please, tell us what happened to Rinka," Botan pleaded.
"I already told you, she died…" Zan smirked.
"You know what she means," Kurama calmly replied.
"Let make a deal, if don't bring up that stupid, pacifier-breathed, moronic, toddler Koenma up, I'll tell you the story about Rinka, or at least how she ended up dying, because if I told you from the very beginning, we could be here for a veeeeeeery long time,"
Yusuke, Kurama, and Kuwabara laughed. Hiei let out a small hiccup, which was supposed to be a laugh swallowed down. They thought it was hilarious. Another person insulted Koenma like that…
"Hn, so another person doesn't like Koenma, shows even more how much people hate Koenma," Hiei smirked.
"That was great," Yusuke smiled.
"But why do you hate Koenma?" Kuwabara asked.
"I would like to know also," Kurama asked.
"Why would anyone hate Koenma? I know Hiei has his reasons, and everyone else just likes to tease him, but why do you hate him? You shouldn't insult him either! You don't know him!" Botan raise her voice.
"Oh don't worry, I don't hate Koenma," Zan said.
"Really?" Botan smiled.
Another sucker for that buffoon Koenma, Hiei thought.
"Yeah, I don't hate him. I LOATHE HIM! Who would like a lazy, good for nothing, moronic, pacifier-breathed, TODDLER!!!" Zan yelled.
Maybe this girl is smarter then I thought, Hiei smirked.
Botan was speechless. Kuwabara and Yusuke were on the floor laughing their heads off. Kurama couldn't help but laugh, and Yukina didn't have a clue what was going on.
"Ok… but why do you…" Botan began to speak.
"I have my reasons. Anyways, is it a deal?" Zan smiled.
"Fine, we won't bring Koenma up anymore," Kurama, answered for the angry Botan, the two clowns calming down from laughing like hyenas, and Hiei.
"Ok… well, I can assure you, it won't be the shortest story," Zan began to tell the tale of Rinka… The fire demons, Rinka's gifted, yet cursed, power of the soul… and how the end came to her…
***
It was a dark day in the Makai. The sun had already set and the blood wood forest didn't let a single piece of the starry night to shine through the massive amount of crimson leaves. Through that forest walked a lonesome girl, with a black ribbon loosely keeping her chocolate brown, waist length hair from flying all over the place. The girl's pitch black eyes matched her outfit, which consisted of black pants and a black sleeveless shirt. A katana hang lazily from her black belt, safely tucked away into its sheath. The girl wore two pieces of jewelry, an earring pierced into her right ear, with the six colored fire burning in it, and the second, was a necklace with only but one pearl, tinted with a light green color. It just so happens, that this girl was Rinka.
Rinka reached for a note that was neatly folded and safely tucked into her pocket. The note read:
Dear Rinka,
Happy Birthday! Here is the first tear gem I ever cried of happiness.
Love,
Shizie
This note seemed to bring some comfort to the princess, but it brought a light cloud of depression along with it. It was referring to the necklace.
"Shizie… heh, she always did love to write the most corny letters… hm, but still, this gives me motivation," Rinka sighed, as she continued to pace through the forest.
A light breeze brushed itself against Rinka's skin, calming her down even more. It had been a month since the death of her friend, Shizie, an ice maiden.
Rinka had vowed to kill off all 5 of the Demons of Darkness, since they cause her pain of the heart, but she knew she wasn't strong enough to beat them, yet, so she decided to go to the Ningenkai for training. Unfortunately, Rinka had been having trouble finding a portal that may be able to send her to the world of humans. She knew from the start that what she was looking for defiantly would not be easy to find. So she was searching for anyone who might know the way out of the Makai, even if it was illegal.
Didn't I just pass by here about an hour ago? Rinka saw a familiar tree standing in front of her. Yes, it was the tree that she thought she saw.
"Damnit, this is just great, I'm walking is CIRCLES!!!" Rinka yelled out into the forest.
Rinka started to walk again. She walked and walked, using here katana to cut out a path through the dense trees. About three hours of walking, mumbling curse words, and slicing trees, Rinka had reached a field; a huge opening in the forest. In this opening, sat a lit up city.
"Finally! Blood Wood city! That took a while, I should have never trusted that squirrel demon I passed by two hours ago…" Rinka let out a breath of relief.
Now to find that `Crimson Teleporter' I've heard about, he should be a great help to be able to get to the Ningenkai… Rinka smiled weakly.
Rinka walked toward the city. When she got to the entrance, two big security guards stood in front of her. Rinka tried to walk around them but they kept on walking in front of her.
"Excuse me, but I got to get to that city that just happens to be behind you," Rinka angrily said to the two guards.
"Give us your pass to the city and we'll let you in," The two guards chimed.
"Sorry I have no pass, just lemme in, c'mon, be a pal… err, pals, and let me in!" Rinka slightly wined.
"No pass, no entrance," The two guards chimed.
Why are they talking together at the same time? Rinka raised her eyebrow.
"But what if I say I might have left my pass in that city!" Rinka slyly said.
"No pass no entrance, but we will let you in if you let me have some fun with you…" The security guards said together once more.
"Oh, now I get it, you're Siamese twins!" Rinka smiled.
"How did you know?" The guards asked.
"I'll tell you if you let me pass through," Rinka blinked.
"We cannot let you do that,"
"What if I tell you I can make you two regular twins instead or Siamese ones?"
"Can you do that?"
"Yup!"
"Ok, do it now and we'll let you through,"
"Ok! But you have to close your eyes if you want me to do it!"
"Ok!"
Rinka started to chant some weird chant. She kept on chanting, and then she stopped. But there was still chanting going on.
Hehehe, suckers! Rinka ran passed the guards and made it to the city.
***
Meanwhile with the guards, the chanting had stopped. 5 minutes later they opened their eyes.
"Are you done yet? Hey where did she go?" They looked around and then looked at the floor. They saw two things, a tape recorder and a bottle cap. The Siamese twins picked them up.
"Why that dirty, rotten, no good… crap! A tape recorder!!! Damnit, we're soo gonna get her, she better be ready for hell… and what's this?" the twins looked at the bottle cap. There was writing on both sides.
"To know how to keep an idiot amused turn the bottle cap over…" One of the twins read out loud. The two turned the bottle cap over.
"To know how to keep an idiot amused turn the bottle cap over…" The second twin read. They turned it over.
"To know how to keep an idiot amused turn the bottle cap over…" They read together and turned it over…
***
Rinka had made her way through the city. Since it was dark out it was all lit up, casino lights flashing, houses lit up, demons walking all around… drunk ones, polite ones, stupid ones, strong, ugly, good-looking, all types of demons.
Hm… now where is that casino `Jackpot'… and that `Crimson Teleporter'… Rinka's black eyes darted around looking for a casino named `Jackpot', but occasionally, when her eyes landed on a good-looking demon, her eyes trailed them to where they were going until she mentally smacked herself.
Damn, I can't help that they are so fine! C'mon Rinka, stick to the plan, look for `Jackpot'… Rinka stayed on track, and continued her search.
Rinka was the type of person who seemed to be a dark and not-caring person. But if one got to know her, they would know that she just has a problem trusting demons or people. Shizie, her friend that was killed, she said that she was the only girl she cared about, and that was right. Shizie earned Rinka's trust, making Rinka be very close to Shizie. If Rinka trusted you, you would know that she was boy-crazy, some-what shy, deadly, sly, kind and had a good-natured heart. She was a really good friend to people she trusted and got to know pretty well. But not many got through to her, and therefore, the trust was not earned and you wouldn't know any of this, unless you were an extremely good-looking guy. But then again, another downside to Rinka was that she was very judgmental, if you were ugly; she acted cold and cruel to you, unless you showed her that you were a descent guy. Needless to say, despite the fact that Rinka hated being a princess, she still had some traits of a princess.
Rinka walked around for about half an hour until she finally found the `Jackpot' casino, which was located in the downtown part of Blood Wood city.
It was not what Rinka expected it to be. Its lights were about to go out, the place was very dark, and many demons that looked like they were drinking were hanging around. Rinka took a deep breath and went in. On the inside, there was a bar, and a bunch of slot machines. As a matter of fact, there were only slot machines. Near the bar there were a couple of table where demons could play poker and black jack. The odd thing was, that the place was actually clean.
"No wonder this casino is called the Jackpot," Rinka mumbled under her breath.
"What was that honey?" A hideous drunk demon walked over to Rinka.
"Call me honey or anything else again, you'll be finding yourself unconscious in the near future," Rinka growled, narrowing her eyes into a deadly glare.
"Hey baby, do wanna drink on me, if you give me a little fun?" The demon hiccupped.
"That's it, I warned you," Rinka launched a punch with tremendous force straight at the demon's mouth, and in the end, he ended up unconscious with his mouth leaking with red liquid, and with a couple of teeth missing.
A couple of demons that were at the bar, looked at Rinka with glints of fear in their eyes.
"I warned him," Rinka quickly brushed off what just happened and walked toward the bar, and sat herself down. All the demons that were sitting near her inched away in fear.
"Excuse me, but is there a demon that goes by the name `Crimson Teleporter' around here?" Rinka asked the bartender.
"Yah, the bum over there, in that corner. Would you like a drink?" the bartender answered, lazily pointing to the back of the casino.
"Uh… no," Rinka stood up and walked away. It was rather rude of her, but this was the Makai. Almost everyone was rude.
Weird, I've never seen a cat demon bar tender… Kami, the cat demons accents drive me insane! That lady's red hair, cat-ears, and tail, are all red and they clash with her outfit, oh and waaaaaaay to much eyeliner and eye shadow, she really needs to learn how to make things actually look good. Rinka criticized the bar tender through her thoughts.
Rinka marched to the direction the bartender pointed her to. She came to the corner and saw a demon with heavy black clocks draping over his face and all over the rest of his body. He was sitting down and leaning against the wall, with his gaze upon the ground.
"What do you want?" A low, smooth voice ringed through the mouth of the demon.
"Are you the `Crimson Teleporter'?" Rinka questioned.
There was an awkward silence for a couple of seconds.
"How did you find out about that? Very few demons know that I am the `Crimson Teleporter', so how would a pretty little princess like you know that?" The man lifted his head up, revealing piercing bright red eyes, that stared straight into Rinka's black ones.
Damnit, don't call me a princess!!! Rinka screamed in her mind, but kept her cool, she didn't want to make a bad impression on her ticket out of the Makai.
"A little birdie told me," Rinka smirked.
"Whaddaya want from me?" The cloaked demon asked once more.
"I want to go to the human world," Rinka stated, not able to tear her eyes away from the apparition's gaze.
"The human world? Hm, I can only teleport few types of demons, and it takes me a lot of energy so I only do it with demon with the power to pass through. That is why the demons of the Makai aren't invading the human world right now, because I can only allow spirit demons through. If I could let any demon through, I would be famous, but as you can tell, I'm not. And by the way, the name is Akai. The `Crimson Teleporter' is just a fancy name," and with that, Akai through off the mountains of black clocks that surrounded him, and revealed himself to Rinka. She was in aw when she saw the demon. He had black hair with cherry-red highlights, pale white skin, and sharp fangs. A blood red cape rested on his shoulders, underneath, more crimson clothing, but a darker shade then the cape. He looked a little like a vampire, but the red indicated that he was no bloodsucker. Wearing all that red made Akai look a little like a poker chip. A perfect bone structured face, and a nice figure. Rinka was interested.
Holy shit! He is FINE!!! Rinka hollered in her mind. Rinka did have a little odd sense of choosing when it came to picking which guys she though looked best, but who could blame her. Although, I think if he didn't have that much red on he would look even better. No wonder his name is Akai, which means `red'. Hmm, was he wearing all those black cloths to keep himself from standing out?
"What is the seven hells would a guy like you be doing in a place like this?" one of Rinka's thoughts accidentally slipped out of her mouth.
"I guess I should take that as a complement," Akai smiled, his white fangs showed a little.
"Oh, did I saw that out loud?" a tint of red colored Rinka's cheeks.
"Yes you did, I think I'll send you to the human world for free if you do me a favor, Miss. Spirit Demon," Akai smiled.
"Sure I'll… hey hold on a sec, one, how did you know that I'm a spirit demon, and two, what do you have in mind?" Rinka smiled back. Apparently, Rinka wasn't only negotiating with Akai. She was also flirting with him.
"Your earring kinda gives it away… princess," Akai chuckled.
"Huh? Oh, Uh-Oh," Rinka didn't know exactly what to say.
"Don't worry, I have nothing against you… by the way, may I have you name?" Akai smiled charmingly once more.
"Oh, it's Rinka," the princess answered, slightly blushing.
"Charmed," Akai smiled.
"Well, onward, what do you have in mind to send me to the human world?" Rinka asked curiously, completely forgetting that Akai knew that she was a princess.
"Well, I want you to help me over throw the fire demon's government… Karazan right now to be exact… in exactly 4 years from now… I'll meet you in the human world where I would drop you off, deal?" Akai's eyes shimmered with hope.
"Hell yeah! I was planning to that myself and rid myself of the title princess one way!" Rinka shouted.
"Then it's a deal?" Akai put out his hand for a shake.
"Oh, yeah," Rinka smiled, and shook his hand.
"Ok, let's go… are you ready? This won't be easy, we'll have to go to through the Reikai, so, you ready?" Akai smiled.
"Born ready," Rinka followed Akai deep into the casino, into a small room with nobody in it.
Oh yeah, a two for one deal! I get to go to the human world, and then once I train, I get to over throw the government with Mr. Sexy over there, and that's what he wants me to do… hehehe, I wanted to over through Karazan and all the other politics there after I killed off the 5 demons of darkness anyways! Oh this is perfect! Rinka chuckled softly to herself.
"Ok, I need you to give me your hands," Akai put out both his palms out, waiting for Rinka to take his hands.
"Whatever you say," Rinka's face darkened 3 shades of red while she took Akai's hands.
Suddenly, cold winds started to circle the two demons, slowly engulfing them in a freezing wind, Akai chanted in a soft voice, but gradually made his way up in chanting the strange words louder and louder, until he was speaking at the top of his lugs, and still he spoke louder. His hand glowed a bright red, turning Rinka's hands red, too. Soon, both of them were glowing all over a deep crimson color. The booming sound of Akai's voice pounded through Rinka's ears, and into her mind, shaking her body and soul, making her dizzy and nauseous, the sounds of Akai's chanting felt like knives piercing through her mind, Rinka's eyes blurred, her blood was boiling… and all of a sudden, the chanting stared to fade. The dizziness made it feel like Rinka was floating on air.
Great, just perfect… now I'm deaf too? Rinka's thoughts floated around her mind aimlessly, random thought coming and going, it was actually, relaxing in some sort of twisted kind of way.
Now the chanting had stopped. Rinka's eyes came back into focus, and he felt refreshed, she wasn't dizzy, nor was she feeling nauseous. Rinka looked down at her hands, they weren't glowing red anymore. She looked at Akai's charming face, and blushed.
He really is gorgeous, she thought.
"Rinka?" Akai asked.
"Yes?"
"We're half way there," Akai smiled.
"We are?" Rinka looked around. They were standing in the corner of a huge room behind a tall desk. The two peeked over the desk only to see an immense number of ogres of all different colors, running around giving orders, and working insanely. Rinka and Akai hide back behind the desk once more.
"I asked for the Ningenkai, NOT the Reikai!" Rinka irritably glared at Akai.
"Don't you remember? I told you that we had to go though the Reikai to get through to the Ningenkai! Anyways, be careful, it's illegal for a demon to cross out of the Makai to anywhere. In order to get to the human world, we are going to have to get out of the gate of judgment, and out to the foot of it, so we can perform the ceremony to the human world, got it?" Akai quickly lowered his voice.
"Oh yeah, I knew that, understood, I'll be on my guard, so how are we gonna pass all those ogres of Koenma's?" Rinka questioned, and was ready to listen attentively.
There was a silence for a while.
"Sooo what's the plan, Akai?" Rinka was waited impatiently for an answer.
"I don't have one…" Akai respond. Rinka almost fell out into the open with his response.
"What! No plan?" Rinka whispered angrily.
"Oh, I know! Don't get caught!" Akai laughed.
"Wha…" Rinka was confused. When she saw Akai jump on top of the desk, that startled her even more.
"Oh my… eh, Akai! What the hell are you doing?" Rinka was shocked. Akai's actions were not what she expected. A surge of fear went through her body.
That Akai BETTER not blow it, whatever he is doing. Rinka hid behind Akai, visible to only a few ogres, but none of them seemed to care.
Akai looked at Rinka once more, his sharp fangs glistening in the light he turned back around and drew in a deep breath.
"BEAVERS!!!" Akai screamed at the top of his lungs.
No! That IDIOT!!! Rinka screamed in her thoughts, NOW we are sooo dead!
The ogres turned around. They looked dumbly at Akai, then at each other, shrugged, and went back to business.
"See, now let's go," Akai grabbed Rinka by the hand, while she was still in shock, when Akai finally ran himself and Rinka out of the gates, they made their way silently down to the bottom of the gates.
***
"Finally, we're at the bottom. First of all do you have anything to say?" Akai asked.
Rinka finally regained herself from shock.
"WERE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND? GOING ON TOP OF THAT DESK, BLOWING OUR COVER, AND SCREAMING `BEAVERS'? WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING?" Rinka yelled at Akai.
"A little later there Rinka, anyways, it doesn't matter now, we're at the bottom right? So it's ok,"
"Yeah, but what if it didn't work?"
"Then… we'd be screwed."
"That's it? You had no back up plan?"
"Nope."
"Don't do that again! That scared me half to death!"
"Sure thing princess,"
"You sound too confident,"
"Of course I'm confident. I'm a pro."
"Oh my God, let's not think about it, just get to the human word already," Rinka stated irritably, stomping her foot to the ground angrily.
"Ok, let's do it, once again take my hands," Akai put out his hands once more, and Rinka took then once again.
Great, this again, just what I wanted… Rinka sighed to relieve some stress.
The entire process was exactly the same as the first ceremony, except the pain was twice as painful.
A few minutes later, right before Rinka was ready to kill Akai because of the pain he was causing, the two landed stopped in mid air.
"Are we there?" Rinka looked around, letting her eyes focus.
"Yep, all is left is the impact, and we are completely at our destination," Akai smiled.
"Impact… whaAAAAAAH!!!" Rinka and Akai were in the air falling. They were right above a house that was near the ocean, and was two stories high. The after a couple seconds of falling, there was a huge crash threw the house roof. Rinka and Akai fell straight through the roof and landed on something soft… a bed with… a blonde haired with two, thick silver streaks of hair near her ears, green-eyed girl squished underneath the two demons.
"Hehe, we're here, heh, the impact wasn't as bad, really soft actually," Akai laughed.
"That's because you landed on me!" Rinka whined.
"But it was a soft landing wasn't it?"
"Yeah, it didn't hurt, it's just that you are reeeeeeally heavy!"
"Yeah, imagine how I feel," A muffled voice came from underneath Rinka.
"Oh, sorry!" Rinka and Akai chimed together getting off the bed and turning around to face the girl, who was straitening out her outfit. It was a black karate outfit with a black belt. The girl herself looked like she was 4 ft 3. In her eyes a small spark of annoyance lingered around, as she stared up at the two demons.
"Thank you," the irritably said.
"Great job, you made us land on a little 8 year old girl!" Rinka whispered to Akai.
"Sorry!" Akai looked apologetically at the girl.
"Hey! I heard that!" The girl glared at Rinka.
"Huh?" Rinka looked at the little confused.
"I'm NOT eight, I'm eleven,"
"Don't toy with us little girl, so your not gonna tell your parents we were here ok?" Akai stepped in front of Rinka.
"I TOLD YOU I'M ELEVEN!!! RETARDS!!! IT'S NOT MY FAULT I'M VERTICALLY CHALLENGED!" The girl yelled at the two.
"Ok…" Akai stepped back.
"Hn, you don't have to worry about my parents, because I live alone. Now, because you broke the roof, you two will be fixing it." The girl continued her scolding.
"Wow, wow, wow!!! Hold it! You live alone?" Rinka asked.
"Oh how is that so amazing?" The girl spat.
"Who cares? No parents, means we're safe. Hey kid, let us stay here for a while, and we'll fix the roof," Akai stated.
"I'm not giving you a choice weather you will fix it or not. You WILL fix the roof. And as long as you help me cook the food, you can stay. I'll show you the guest rooms in a minute," The girl sighed.
"Why are you staying?" Rinka whispered to Akai.
"I have to regain all my energy to go back to the Makai, and that may take a while," Akai whispered.
"Shh, not so loud, she'll hear you," Rinka shook her finger at Akai.
"Why are you even bothering whispering?" The girl popped up behind Rinka.
"Huh?" Akai and Rinka blinked.
"So you are from the Makai? Hm, as long as you don't steal anything I'm ok, and by the way, the name is Zan, and you two are…" Zan pointed up at the two demons.
"Oh, I'm Akai, and that's Rinka. Nice to meetcha squirt," Akai patted Zan on the head.
"Don't touch me!" Zan barked at Akai, brushing his hand off.
"Well, it's nice to meet you Zan," Rinka began, but Zan cut in.
"Since I can tell you two are demons, I expect the roof to be fixed by sunset, that leaves you with 6 hours. Finish by then and you can stay. I advise you start working; I'll get your rooms ready, and no food if you slack off!" Zan walked off.
"Gees, what a control freak," Akai mumbled.
"I heard that," Zan peeked through the door. She had brought all the supplies to repair the roof, "Start working you lazy bums!"
"Alright, alright, I'll start," Rinka picked up some tools that Zan had brought her and jumped up to the roof and started repairing.
"You can't tell me what to do squirt!"
"Oh yeah?"
"Yeah,"
Five minutes later, Akai was standing outside, and the door was being slammed in his face.
"She'll be back… I know she will," the demon grumbled.
He stood outside for ten minutes, in the heat of the sun. Inside the house was air conditioning.
"She better be back…"
Twenty minutes later, the heat had gotten to Akai. He was banging on the door to Zan's house.
"Lemme back in!!!" Akai pounded on the door.
Zan poked her head out a window and looked down at Akai. She smiled deviously. Rinka was on the roof with a hammer in her hand, watching what was about to happen.
"What was that dear Akai?" Zan shouted.
"I said lemme back in!!! Now do it!" He shouted back at Zan.
"Why should I?"
"Anything, just let me in!"
"Hmmm, not for a price," Zan grinned, showing her white teeth to Akai.
"Just name it, you got it!"
"This little brat is a genius, heh, I don't think I gave Zan enough credit, I don't think even I could do what she's doing," Rinka chuckled to herself.
"Ok, I'll let you back in, IF, that is you, repair the roof and ceiling that you two broke, along with Rinka. Then after that, you have to sweep the front yard, make it nice and tidy, and you will do it until it is all done well, and cleanly, and you will sing the Makai Anthem of the Fire Lands backwards while holding your tongue, and jumping on one foot, wearing clown cloths. Is it a deal?" Zan's mischievous eyes blinked.
Rinka almost choked trying to hold back her laughter. She couldn't imagine her `hot' friend doing that.
"But everyone knows that if you sing the Makai Anthem of the Fire Lands backwards while holding your tongue, and jumping on one foot, you are basically singing that wretched `I love you song' with a lisp making you sound gay! I refuse to do it,"
"Fine, you can't come in."
"FINE!" Akai yelled furiously.
Seven hours later, the roof and the ceiling was fixed into perfect condition, the front yard was nice, clean, and tidy, and Akai was singing the Makai Anthem of the Fire Lands backwards while holding his tongue, jumping on one foot, while he wore a clown outfit. Rinka and Zan were laughing their heads off. When Akai finished, he ripped off the clown clothes, and ran to the bathroom of the house and washed his mouth with mouthwash.
"That was great Zan!" Rinka wiped away the tears that were streaming down her face. It had been a really funny sight.
"Yes, it was great because I am the master, now come on, it's getting dark outside, let's go inside." Zan pulled Rinka into her home.
Later that night the three lounged around in the living room, playing cards and watching TV. When Rinka and Akai first saw the TV turn on with the sound and the moving picture they nearly screamed, but Zan stopped them and explained it to them what it was. Before they went off to bed, Akai asked Zan a question.
"Hey squirt, how do know about the Makai?" He popped a chip into his mouth.
"I got an apprentice there that I visit every other month for a week, but unlike you two, I've got a pass allowing me to travel through the portals," Zan lazily said.
"Oh ok, anyways, I'm tired, I'm going to bed," Rinka yawned.
"Me too," Zan agreed.
"Yeah I think I'll get some shut eye too," Akai rubbed his eyes. It was 10:30 p.m.
The three said their goodnights and walked into their separate rooms. Zan was upstairs, in her room, Rinka was in the room to the right of Zan, and Akai was to the left. They all went in and fell swiftly to sleep.
Akai's room was a cerulean color; everything was some kind of blue in that room, but it was still a very nice room. All the walls in the house were a white-peachy color. Rinka's room was green, exactly like Akai's but green. Those were the two guest rooms. Zan's room was a room that a fifteen-year-older would have, but it was pretty normal.
That was how Zan met the princess. Six months after Akai and Rinka's arrival to Zan's place, Akai had finally regained his strength to travel back to the Makai. Rinka tried to convince him out of it, but no cigar. Akai said he'd be back soon, he needed to leave to as he said `gather info on the Fire World's government under Karazan,' Akai had not forgotten the deal. Zan was well aware that Rinka was the princess and that Akai was the `Crimson Teleporter'. Zan and Akai helped Rinka with her training, but usually it was Akai training her. All three of them because best of friends, and Akai still called Zan squirt. Over the time Zan had met those two demons, she had to be very responsible, because taking care of two demons that were more immature then an eleven-year-old was hard work, so she gained a better personality, more mature and less rude. Zan also was working as a waitress at a few different restaurants.
After Akai left for the demon world, he was attacked by one of Karazan's men, and he was sent to the fire world prison, and he died there. This devastated Rinka, and so was Zan. When Zan had turned fourteen, Rinka fell gravely ill. She held on, and Zan took care of her day by day, and worked extra hard at her DJ job, which she had since she was fourteen. Rinka was sick for an entire year. When Zan turned 15, Rinka had entered the critical stage… it wasn't just a disease, it was the transfer stage! Rinka was in critical condition and almost pulled through until one night a demon assassin came in, and attempted to murder Rinka, but Zan fought him off, sending him back to the Makai in the end. Even the demon had not succeeded in assassinating Rinka; he did manage to put a deep gash in Rinka. That was it for her. The end was sealed. As a last request, Zan stood near the bedside of the dying princess.
"No, please, this can't be happening, you were so close, please," Zan sobbed.
"Zan, I don't have much time. So listen to me. Don't worry Zan everything will be all right… C'mon, smile! Everything will be all right… You are an amazing 15-year-old girl now! Please, fulfill my death wish… Please, I wish I could do this myself, but I can't so, please, kill off all five demons of darkness for me, and please bring down the Fire World's government… I'm counting on you. To help you get through, take my earring, wear it, it will give you the power of the soul without you having to go through the test if you are ever in grave danger," Rinka took off her earring, and placed it in Zan's hand, "And don't worry, it was already set, it is my time to go, now wipe away those tears and smile, you have such a kind heart and a strong soul… even though it may take one a while too see that… it is true, never give up on your hopes and dreams… Zan, thank you for everything… Remember, even if I'm gone… I will still be here with you, in your memories and in your heart… Farewell Zan, Farwell…" And with that she died.
Zan wept for a long time, at the sight of her friend's death. Then Zan vowed upon herself, that she would fulfill Rinka's death wishes, along with her own. The earring Rinka always wore, the black tear gem with the glowing fire in it, the same gem the queen of fire apparitions, or Rinka's mother, cried for the princess, that earring sealed the vow by pierced it into Zan's own right ear.
Zan decided to burry Rinka in the cemetery Kyou E. Yamagata established, to be buried there was an honor, and Rinka defiantly was worthy of that honor.
And that ends the shorter version story of Rinka.

"Oh Zan, that must've been a horrible experience for you. The death of both your closest friends?" Botan's eyes shed a few tears.
"Well, Rinka died 3 months ago, and I'm still sad about it, but I'm over it. I was sad about Akai's death too, but I got over that too. I wish I could've been able to burry him next to Rinka…" Zan sighed. She kept her depressed tears in her eyes.
"So now you have to fulfill her death wishes," Kuwabara stated.
"Yes, but I need to train, I'm really rusty… I haven't fought for the longest time, and that isn't a very good thing, because when I fought Yoshi today, I barley survived, and I need to sharpen my skill to kill the 5 demons of darkness, Scyther, Ryoga, Toshio, Hiroshi, and Chikako. These five demons of darkness are also known by the title elemental five. Scyther is the master of earth, Ryoga is the master of air, Toshio is the master of fire, Hiroshi is the master of water, and Chikako is the master of metals. They are all immortal creatures, but they can be defeated if they are made mortal by using the Cloak of Mortality. By making them mortal, they will gain even more power, but they will be able to be killed. These five demons, also have many top-notch assassins that are all the way up at the A class working for them, so they have an army along with them. The demons themselves are in the S+ Classes… and if they are immortal, if they are powered up to beyond the S+ class, unless you use special exterminator items and weapons, then they will have an effect on the demons, and bring them down to the S Class, but I need training, and sharpen my skills to even be able to harness those items!" Zan explained.
"How do you know all of that? Only the highest spirit world intelligence knows about that! Exterminating items such as weapons and potion have been long forgotten; the last time they have ever been heard of was approximately 850 years ago!" Botan exclaimed.
"I have my resources," Zan responded quietly.
"Hn, another reason to show how horrible spirit world intelligence is," Hiei snorted.
"I'll pretend I never heard that," Botan raised her voice.
"So what are we gonna do now?" Kuwabara asked.
"Maybe we should eat," Yusuke stated.
"Hm, I guess that would be nice to get something to eat, since we have been talking for quiet a while," Kurama looked up at the clock tower. It read 1:14 p.m.
"Does anybody have money?" Yusuke asked. Everyone who might have money looked into their pockets. No such luck.
"Aw what the heck, you can go to my house and eat as long as I don't have to cook," Zan smiled.
"I could cook! I've always loved to! Can I please master?" Yukina chimed from behind Zan.
"Sure if you want to! Thanks Yukina! Ok, follow me if you wanna have some of Yukina's food!" Zan laughed and headed toward the direction of the ocean, since her house was near there.
"Zan's house huh? I'd like to see that, she does live alone, I wonder how she fairs. Are you coming Hiei?" Kurama glanced at Hiei who was pondering about something.
"Hn, fine. But only because I don't trust that idiot Kuwabara with Yukina," Hiei stated. Kurama knew though that Hiei was interested in where Zan lived, because he knew that Hiei had never heard of a human living by themselves all their life.
It took the group to get to Zan's house approximately 20 minutes. When Zan got to her house, the others were in aw.
"You live HERE? And an ocean view? Damn that's sweet! And you live alone?" Yusuke exclaimed.
"Yup, that's my house," Zan smiled. She took out here keys and unlocked the door. Everybody stepped into her home, and were directed to the living room, so they could watch TV or play card games while Yukina and Zan cooked. Zan decided she would help out with the food. While walking to the living room, Kuwabara spotted a door. It was semi opened. He walked to it, and was about to look in but Zan noticed Kuwabara heading towards the door. Zan ran across, and ended up slamming the door shut before Kuwabara had the chance to look. Zan then locked that door with a special black key, and then turned to Kuwabara, who was staring at her, along with all the rest of the spirit detectives that were staring at her.
"You can wonder about anywhere in this house except my room and this door, understood?" Zan panted, but she was being serious. Everyone nodded, understanding that they weren't wanted there.
Hn, what is that girl hiding now? Hiei raised an eyebrow. He was tempted to use his Jagan to look through Zan's mind, but he stopped himself. Yukina had the food ready to be eaten.
"It looks delicious Yukina!" Everyone exclaimed.
"Let's go and serve it at the dining room," Zan pointed to a room that had a huge window, showing the ocean view.
"Wow, it's beautiful, I love your house so far!" Botan managed to say, stuffing her face with food.
"Geez Botan, I never knew that out of all people you talked with your mouthful!" Yusuke teased.
"Oh shut up, it's not like you don't talk with your mouth full," Kuwabara mumbled.
Before Yusuke was able to respond, Kurama cut in.
"Yusuke isn't the food lovely?"
Lately, Kurama has been preventing many quarrels. He managed to stop this one too.
When everybody finished eating, and the dishes were done, everyone sat in the living room, just talking. All of a sudden, Botan got a ring from her communicator.
"Hey Botan, the communication mirror is ringing," Yusuke pointed at Botan's pocket.
"Oh yes… it is," Botan pulled it out and popped it open.
Everyone else in the room didn't notice Botan and Yusuke so they continued doing whatever it was they were doing.
"Hello?" Botan looked at the blank screen all of a sudden it turned on. On it showed the face of a toddler.
"Botan, I need you back here right now!" The toddler screamed. The communicator was on low, so nobody heard except for Botan and Yusuke.
"Koenma?" Botan looked shocked. She wasn't expecting a call from Koenma, especially one that sounded so urgent.
"No time to explain now, I need you here ASAP! And bring Yusuke and the others with you!"
