THE BLACK ANGEL

Chapter 1: The Meeting

A girl with long, mid-thigh purple hair walked down the streets in her dirty brown rags. She turned and took a seat in the small alleyway that she always went to when she wasn't in the streets. She ate a pieced of bread that she had gotten earlier from a baker who was kind enough to give her some. The girl glanced out at the streets, thought of how she desperately hated that place, and sighed.

She finished the bread and relived her training, keeping her in top shape in case of anything. When she was done, she walked out of the alley and back into the streets, preparing for what was going to happen.

Reikai: Koenma's Office

A small toddler with a large purple hat that covered his head and hazel eyes sighed and called in a faerie girl. The girl had sky blue hair and magenta pink eyes. She wore a light pink kimono and she held an oar in her hand.

“Botan,” the toddler sighed. He knew the girl would be tired after her long day's work.

“Yes, Koenma, sir?” the girl, now known as Botan, said. She tried to keep up her happy face, but didn't work as well as she thought it would.

“I know you're tired from the day's work,” the toddler, now known as Koenma, began, “but I need you to do one more thing for me. Please get the boys here as soon as possible. It seems that I will need them for another mission.”

“Yes, Koenma, sir,” Botan sighed. Her shoulder slumped slightly at her new job before she opened a portal and flew through, using her trusty oar.

Koenma sighed as he pressed a button on his table. A screen appeared behind him as he turned his chair around, facing the screen. A girl with long, mid-thigh, light purple hair appeared in the screen, walking around the streets, mingling with all the other humans.

He sighed once more before he turned off the screen, pushing his chair back into its original position. He waited for the boys to arrive, but there came bad news as more paperwork beat the boys to his office.

He just sighed yet again before stamping the minutes away, waiting for the boys to arrive.

Ningenkai: Kurama's House

Botan just groaned for what seemed to be the thousandth time that day. Work hadn't been very nice with her and she still had to put up with the stubborn boys.

A boy with slicked, black hair and toffee brown eyes wearing a green school uniform similar to that of a green jumpsuit, and another boy with orange, elvis-styled hair and small, beady, orange-to-brown eyes wearing a blue school uniform similar to that of a blue jumpsuit, were both playing a new video game. They were just plainly ignoring her.

A boy with long, rose red hair and emerald green eyes wearing a magenta uniform with gold trimming down his chest, collars and sleeves, was reading a book. He seemed to be just patiently waiting for the other two boys to finish their game.

The last boy had black hair that defied gravity with a white starburst running through it and crimson red eyes. He wore all black: a black cloak that was something like a dress, black pants, and black combat boots. The only things that weren't black were his three belts, a white bandana accross his forehead, and a blue undershirt he wore under that cloak of his. A katana was strapped to his waist and a long red ribbon was on the end, making it appear rather deadly and graceful at the same time. He didn't do that much of anything, since all he was doing was just sitting on the windowsill while looking outside.

Botan just groaned as she turned to the red-head that was so absorbed in his book.

“Kurama, help me over here. Lord Koenma will be angry if you don't get to his office real soon,” Botan practically begged after the day's work.

The red-head, now known as Kurama, closed the book after placing a bookmark in the page. He went behind the TV and did something that made the TV go black.

“HEY!” the two boys yelled in unison, irittated that their game was interrupted.

“Sorry, Yusuke, Kuwabara,” Kurama apologized quietly as he stood to his full height, “but Lord Koenma is waiting for us in Reikai. Now, let's get going before the electricity bill in my house goes beyond the roof.”

Both boys grumbled under their breaths as they stood up with their hands in their pockets.

“Coming, Hiei?” Kurama said to the last boy sitting on the windowsill.

The boy gave a `hn' and stood up, walking over to the others.

Botan didn't waste any time as she opened a portal and waited for the rest of the guys to get through. Yusuke went in first, then Kuwabara, Kurama, Hiei, and Botan last.

Reikai: Koenma's Office

Koenma had just finished all the stamping and the sorting as he waited for the ogres to get the papers. The ogres quickly gathered the stack of papers just as a portal appeared in his office, allowing his team of Spirit Detectives and faerie girl to get through.

The boys all took their positions in the room, Yusuke and Kuwabara standing right in front of the desk, Botan next to Koenma, Kurama behind Yusuke and Kuwabara, and Hiei sitting on the windowsill, like he usually did.

“What do you want now, Binky Breath?” Yusuke grumpily said. “This better be worth it to take me away from beating Kuwabaka over here.”

“Hey!” Kuwabara complained. “I was so beating your sorry butt down to oblivion!”

“Yea, dream all you want,” Yusuke said. He turned back to Koenma. “Now, just tell me what you want so I can get this done quickly.”

“I have a new mission for you all,” Koenma said as he pressed a button on his table.

The lights turned off and a screen appeared behind Koenma. The screen showed some static before it changed into a photo of a girl of about fourteen with long, mid-thigh, light purple hair and matching dark purple eyes. She wore just normal training clothes, a pair of black, baggy pants, a black tank top, black fingerless gloves, and some black combat boots.

Kuwabara and Yusuke were silenced as they started drooling at the picture.

“Boys,” Koenma started, “let me introduce you to Kasegawa Midori. Midori is in the Ningenkai right now, and I need you boys to bring her back here into Reikai. Don't worry, she knows about the demons and all the works. I just need you to bring her back here.”

“Is she not human, Lord Koenma?” Kurama asked. He was slightly confused at how the strange girl knew of all the works in the dimension.

“Don't let her looks deceive you, Kurama,” Koenma warned. “She may look like a weak ningen girl, but she's actually a high class demon in her human form. Her level is higher than that of an S-class demon. Don't lose her - it took us nearly a year to find her exact location.”

Kurama nodded as Koenma pressed the same button as before and the room returned back to normal.

Botan opened up a portal as soon as the lights had turned on.

“Okay, listen up,” Botan started. “This portal will take you to a small alleyway that she always goes to. If you can't find her, come find me and I'll work something out.”

The boys nodded and stepped through the portal.

Ningenkai: A Small Alleyway

The boys all landed in a small alleyway. Strong garbage scents bombarded their noses as soon as they took their first step there.

Kuwabara and Yusuke had already started the complain trip as they landed. Kurama and Hiei kept their mouths shut, although they were sickened because of the scent as well.

When the portal closed, they saw some light purple hair rounding corner of the opening of the alleyway.

They didn't waste any time as they chased the girl down.

Midori's P.O.V.

I sighed as I walked down the streets, the general way of the usual alleyway I stayed in. I was already tired after working the whole day and I really wanted to have some time for myself, at least until I got my energy back.

Instead of getting some of my alone time, I found two boys bickering about something with two more others just coming out of a portal. Oh dear, that always spelled trouble.

I scanned their energies, trying to know what I was going to face if I walked inside.

The tall copper-head was quite weak, but I could tell he had a heart of gold. The slick-haired one was quite strong, a hanyou no doubt. The red-head wasn't as strong as the slick-haired one, but strong, nontheless. I sensed a kitsune aura around him, something that wasn't surprising at all. A short one came out of the portal, having the energy of something like a dragon. His energy was about as strong as the red-head. If I had to face them, they'd have me cornered no problem, seeing as I wasn't planning on using my energy any time soon.

I didn't have time to make anymore as the portal closed and they turned to me. I quickly turned and ran away, having no intention on getting caught real soon.

Normal P.O.V.

Midori ran, rushing past the crowd, the boys hot on her trail. She didn't want to show any signs that she was a demon, so she didn't have that many choices as she stayed at her constant human speed.

It didn't take that long before she felt somebody grab her wrist. Her head turned sharply at the intruder before she stood up straight, panting slightly.

She let her wrist go limp, not even trying to get free. Why try when you already knew the outcome?

Kurama, sensing that she wasn't going to leave, let go of her wrist just as the others came into the picture, panting slightly.

“Miss Midori?” Kurama timidly asked.

“Yes,” Midori said as she tried to regain her breath. “You need me for something? To go to Reikai, perhaps?”

The boys just nodded as Yusuke pulled out a compact and called Botan to get them a portal.

“Please,” Midori said. “Do me a favor and don't use any formalities on me. I don't deserve any of it.”

The other three boys just nodded as Yusuke came back.

“Back to the alleyway with us,” he said with his hands in his pocket. “Let's get moving.”

Midori just followed in between Hiei and Kuwabara. They wanted to be sure that she wasn't going to run away on them.

Once they reached the alley, a portal was set for them, along with Botan waiting for them.

They all entered one by one, Yusuke first, then Kurama, Midori, Hiei, Kuwabara, and Botan last as she closed the portal behind her.

Reikai: Koenma's Office

Midori didn't seem fazed as she stepped through the portal and into Koenma's office.

“Ah,” she sighed as she stretched her arms. “It's been a while since I've been back here. Hey, Botan.”

“Welcome back, Midori,” Botan said with a smile.

“Midori,” Koenma greeted as he turned his chair around. “Welcome back. I'm afraid we need you for another mission.”

“It's good to be back,” Midori said, taking in a deep breath. “Nothing's changed, except for the new team and all that.”

“Well, yes,” Koenma sighed. “We needed somebody to keep the Ningenkai alive, after all.”

“I suppose that you have my room opened for my return?” Midori asked.

Koenma just nodded as Midori left the room, a happy smirk plastered on her lips.

“Okay,” Yusuke breathed. “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ABOUT?!” he practically screamed.

“Relax, Yusuke,” Botan said as she stood next to Koenma. “That was just how she acts. You'll have to get used to it since your new mission involves her in a LOT of ways.”

“Yea,” Yusuke said. “But when am I going to get a break for this? I mean, we just got back from a mission like a few days ago.”

“Well, I suppose I should tell you now,” Koenma sighed out. “But I say we wait for Midori before we actually start with the briefing.”

At that moment, the doors were pushed open by no one other but Midori herself. She had changed out of the rags that she used to wear and into the training outfit that she wore in the photo. The black combat boots, black baggy pants, black tank top, black fingerless gloves, and her hair was in a single braid to her waist.

“I'm here,” Midori said as she closed the door. “Start explaining why I should be here.”

“First,” Koenma started, “introduce yourself. I didn't get into any details other than your name and rank.”

“Yea, sure, fine,” Midori said as she rolled her eyes and walked over in front of Koenma's table. She turned to face the guys and leaned on the table. “Kasegawa Midori, more than 500 years old at the least, I don't need to explain about my appearance, if I do, you're just blind, affiliations includes ex-Spirit Detective and The Black Angel, demon rank is some level around Z-class to X-class, I'm working my way up there. Questions?”

The guys were silent, trying to swallow the information they had just received.

“Anyway,” Midori said as she clapped her gloved hand in front of her. “Let's get this party started since I'm in the mood for some excitement after more than five years of peace.”

“Yes,” Koenma sighed as he pressed another button on his desk. The lights went off and the screen came back, showing some more static before another picture appeared.
