The Demon Familiars
Ch.6
Jordan as silently as she could tiptoed to the door and slid it open a fraction so she could peer outside. The comotion had caused her to wake. Almost everyone she had met last night was there, along with three others she'd never seen. A man and a woman, dressed in odd clothing.
The one introduced to her as Yusuke was yelling very loudly at the two. She was kneeling down and from the angle she could only see part of the woman, Kurama was blocking her line of sight.
She didn't understand what they were saying at all. They weren't speaking Japanese, and if they were it sounded funny.
The woman spoke then all went silent.
'Damn, what the hell are they talking about? Speak Spanish or something, at least that I can understand!' Jordan thought, biting her lip.
A shiny glint by the woman caught her attention and she squinted at it. At first she thought it was metal suspended on the woman's head, but it moved when she didn't, and vanished every few seconds only to reappear. The shape reminded her of something obvious, but her mind came up blank. Then her stomach dropped when she figured it out. Eyes. They were eyes.
That did it for her. She couldn't hold back the gasping noise, and felt stupid when she realized everyone else heard it.
Kurama spun around, bounded up the stairs and slammed the door in her face.
'Shit, I'm screwed'
"Familiar! Don't fear us, we wont hurt you!"
The woman spoke in English to her. That wasn't good.
"Stay in there!," Yusuke yelled.
There was more arguing in the unknown language, Jordan was positive she'd rather see what these people wanted than hide while she let a bunch of guys protect her.
She got up and tried the door. It wouldn't budge. She guessed Kurama was holding it shut.
"Hey, would you open the door, I want to talk to them."
"No," Came the reply.
"Why not?"
"You don't understand."
Jordan sighed imaptiently,"Don't talk to me like I'm a dumbass, please open the door."
No reply.
"Open the god damned door," She hissed, hitting it once with her palm.
Kurama cracked it enough that she could see one vibrant green eye,"No, it is far too dangerous."
"I *know* that, and I don't care, move it."
Kurama shook his head,"You don't know, you have no idea how powerful they are."
"Can you beat them?"
"What?"
"If they try to fight you, can you beat them and win?"
Again he shook his head,"They haven't come here to fight us, that would be unnecessary. They will try to convince us to let you go with them. They are offering to protect you, to take you off our hands and responsibility, but they have something else in mind, and it has nothing to do with keeping you safe."
That made her wonder,"Ok,what are they *saying* they want?"
"They claim that someone is dying, and they think only you will have the ability to heal him."
"Seriously, why me?"
"I don't know."
Jordan didn't believe he was very convincing. She tried to yank the door open, but Kurama was much stronger than her.
"Don't lie, why do they want me?"
"Because of what you are," He whispered.
"A familiar...,"
Jordan shivered when the room grew cold.
"Please come away from the door, it's not safe," A worried voice said. It was the small, blue-haired girl with the strange red eyes she'd met earlier. The girl took her arm and tried to lead her away. Then she saw the other blue-haired girl, Botan.
"We're going to get you out of here," she said smiling. Jordan wondered if she ever stopped smiling for more than two seconds.
Botan took her by the wrist and led her to another sliding door on the other side of the room. Jordan never noticed it was there or she would have gone out that way from the start.
She ran in her socks and a white bathrobe through the hallway and out another door onto the wood porch. From then on Yukina stayed behind, but Genkai landed close to them out of nowhere. She ran with them to the edge of the temple grounds. The bottom of the socks were wet from running in the dirt. Jordan twisted her arm causing Botan to lose the grip on her wrist. Then she skidded to a halt, whirled around and began running back.
"Don't, you foolish child!," She heard the old woman yell. She got a few feet away from her then one of them tackled her from behind and she was thrown to the ground.
'No' she thought,'I have to find out what they want'
She tried to move but found her arms were pinned behind her back.
"Idiot, what are you trying to do?!"
It was Genkai who had tackled her. She was the strongest senior citizen Jordan had ever met.
"Let go of me," She struggled, but with no avail," I want...I want to know what I am!"
Genaki released her suddenly. Jordan rubbed her arms, they were going to bruise again.
"If you can't tell me maybe they can..."
Genkai frowned and looked away.
"Jordan,"Botan said softly.
"I'm going back."
"No, you can't!,"Botan grabbed her shoulders," You can't go back there!"
Jordan was ready to shove her away when a movement from the tree tops made her look up. Botan screamed at the seven foot monster before it slammed a giant fist into her and the girl went flying into a tree. She cried out in pain and slumped to the ground.
The monster threw Jordan over it's shoulder, Genaki was there pummeling the thing, her fists a blur. It had about as much of an effect as a mosquito biting an Elephants' ear. It flung the old woman away and she skidded across the ground and into a stone statue. It shook with the impact.
"Shit! Botan! Genkai! *Shit*!"
Jordan pounded the monsters' back, but it had less of an effect than Genkai did. There was no way for her to escape.

Kurama was witnessing Yusuke and Yomi's grandstanding when he heard the scream. He knew Botan and Genkai had attempted to get Jordan safely far away from the persistent demon lords, so he feared it was one of them.
"Yusuke!,"He yelled from the porch.
"It came from over there!,"Kuwabara yelled.
The entire group, except for Yomi and Rhianon, ran in the direction of the fighting.
Yusuke and Mukuro were in the lead. Yusuke pushed himself to stay ahead of the red-haired demon, he didn't want her to get to them first. They entered the small clearing. Yusuke saw Jordan on the shoulder of a tall, extremely ugly demon as it jumped away. He glanced at Mukuro who nodded. She leaped to the side and used a tree to get enough leverage to snatch Jordan from the monster's clutches. Yusuke waited until the two were at a safe distance and released his spirit gun. The huge blast of energy lit up the dark trees and hit the demon before it was able to deflect it.
Yusuke watched it fall and just incase aimed for another shot, destroying what remained. A few charred pieces fell to the Earth.
Kuwabara was helping Botan, and Jin was trying to help Genkai who was in much worse shape.
Kurama was taking Jordan from Mukuro. Jordan pushed him away and ran to where Botan was. Yusuke watched them talk for a second, then hurried over to Jin who was lifting Genkai gently into the air.
"How bad is she hurt?," He asked.
"I don't think it's too bad, she'll just have a cramp or two when she wakes up."
Yusuke frowned as the wind master flew off with her.
Kuwabara was helping Botan walk back to the temple's building. That left
Kurama, Touya, Jordan, Himself, and Mukuro there.
Jordan and the demon lord were face to face with each other, not speaking, just watching.
Touya and Kurama were on either side of the familiar, a few feet back.
Yusuke jogged to where they were standing, but Jordan said," Back up some would you, I want to talk to her."
Yusuke glanced at Kurama who nodded at him to move. He took a position next to Touya and waited.

Jordan locked eyes with the female demon in front of her.
"What do you want from me?," She asked.
"Your power, but not for our personal use. We need you to heal someone."
"Who?"
The lord was silent for a while then spoke," The one you met."
Jordan didn't understand," What?"
"You know who, remember."
She was at a loss. Who could the demon have meant by 'the one she met'.
"The one I met..."
A flash of her dream came back to her. A vision of the pretty face with that glowing purple eye.
"Does this demon...have a third eye?"
She felt the alarm of the three men behind her. She wondered why.
Mukuro nodded," Yes."
"What's his name?"
"Hiei."
"Hiei,"She said to herself.
"If I...go with you, can you promise me a better explanation of what I am?"
"I do know a certain demon with a good knowledge of what your kind are, yes."
Jordan nodded, then turned to the three behind her,"Look, I'm sorry for causing you guys so much shit, and I really appreciate what you did for me. For now I think going with her would be my best option."
"Best option?,"Kurama asked.
"Of finding out what the hell I am."
"You're very determined to understand this aren't you?"
"If I don't even know myself, I'll be lost anywhere I go, even if I *know* where I am."
Kurama raised his eyebrows, but didn't say anything. Touya's face was cool and expressionless. Jordan didn't think much could unsettle the blue-haired man. Yusuke looked sour, almost angry. Then again, he'd had that same expression since she'd met him. She figured it was normal.
"I'm going to wait until Genkai wakes up, is that ok with you?," She asked Mukuro.
"As you wish,"She said quietly and walked away.
Jordan smiled. Maybe her life hadn't hit the fan just yet.
*Authors note: Is it getting better or worse? Should I keep going or rethink the plot? Any opinions?*
