Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ The Demon Summoner ❯ Breaking of The Barrier ( Chapter 1 )
Author's Notes: okay, I can only imagine the complaints I may get if I don't give credit where credit is due. Of course, this idea came completely from Final Fantasy X but the story line is not going to be followed-just the idea of summoning and there being a summoner with guardians. So, let me see what I can do. As far as Kaitou, Yana, and Kido come, I love those guys from the Sensui Saga and I felt I should add them to this story at least. So, I apologize if you don't like them-just don't let me know about it, ok? XD
Summery: The strength of those in Spirit and Human World has failed and now the whole world lives in fear at many demons that have crossed over into the Human world from Makai. Only a selective few have survived and some of those people consist of Yuske, Kido, Kaitou, Botan, and Yana....and a young girl who may be able to save the world brought to its knees thanks to the breaking of the barrier. She must travel around the world to find the 9 demons that gave up their souls to protect the Human world and summon them for their strength once more. Will she be able to do it with Yuske and the others as her guardians? (FFX type plot/Kido X OC/Kurama X Botan/ Kaitou X OC/)

Midori was only 13 when she saw the sky turn a blood red. She was standing next to Kido, attempting to walk home from school as the two looked up at the odd colored sky wondering what was happening. Looking over at her childhood friend Midori sighed, "Something is happening."
"Yuske and the others won't fail," Kido remarked keeping his eyes glued to the scenery. Midori remained silent making him look over at his friend who had a rather worried look upon her face. He could only guess what it was. "You're worried about your sister, aren't you?"
Looking into Kido's narrow black eyes she nodded, "Is it that obvious?"
"I don't think you should worry so much since Kaitou is watching over her. And keep in mind that he can steal souls in his territory." Midori nodded yet again at what Kido had to say to her as she followed behind him praying everything would turn out okay in the end.
Miya was Midori's twin sister and she was helping the group in everyway possible. Miya's heart was what was keeping the barrier up at the moment. Koenma blessed her body to hold this burden and Miya was more than happy to accept it. Of course, now thanks to Sensui and his gang attempting to break the barrier that was keeping the demon world separated from the human world, Miya's body was suffering greatly. Kaitou was in love with Midori's sister, and it was no secret to anyone. Not even Miya, for she too loved him back. Kaitou volunteered to stay back and watch over the suffering girl. Kurama fixed something for Miya to take that would lessen the pain but not deplete it.
Miya and Midori knew of what Kido and the others were when the barrier started breaking. In fact, they were both just drawn into this world of demons and apparitions when Miya passed out during class once it started breaking due to the pain that was being inflicted on her heart. Knowing that her childhood friend could paralyze anyone if he stepped on their shadow didn't make Midori think differently of Kido. She would joke on occasion that she would watch where her shadow was placed around him.
"Kido," Midori began as they continued down the road, "Can we please go see my sister? I am afraid that the barrier will break and she will die without my being there-."
"Don't say such things!" Kido demanded almost angrily. Hearing his tone made her rethink her choice of words as she continued to walk behind him. "As long as your sister stays alive and healthy, nothing will happen. I assure you that it will take more than a physic to break her heart."
Looking out at the dark red sky made her sigh, I hope you are right, Kido.
---
Kaitou was waiting for Miya's poor suffering to be over with as he sat close to her bedside. The pain was becoming so bad that it was difficult for her to even open her mouth to speak. She dared not even look around herself the pain was too immense. The only thing he could do for her lately was hold onto her hand and let her know he was there. "Come on, Miya," Kaitou whispered, moving her brown and white streaked hair out of her face. "I know you can beat this."
Seeing that she was sweating quite a bit, he decided to go and grab her something to drink hoping that would cool her down. As he stepped out into the hallway, the phone rang. Grabbing the glass that was closest to him, he reached for the phone next having a feeling that it was probably Kurama calling. Before he could even say `hello', Yuske's voice started screaming over the phone. "Get Miya out of there!! Sensui is heading that way with that pretty boy, Itsuki and are planning to rip her apart!"
"How does he know to come after Miya?" Kaitou asked almost dropping the glass in his hand.
"Let me see that," Kurama's voice ordered from over the phone. Taking his cell phone back, Kurama began to explain, "Needless to say, Kuwabara's tongue slipped. Please, move Miya out of there!"
Kaitou hung up the phone knowing it would possibly not take long for the two to arrive. Hurrying to Miya's room, he picked her up in the blanket hoping there was some place he could put her. But as he turned towards the door, it was broken down with force from Sensui and his right hand man, Itsuki. Dammit, Kaitou thought backing up with Miya's body in his arms.
Sensui's face expressed his pleasure at seeing the suffering child in the teen's arms. "So this is the young child that is keeping the barrier up." Kaitou showed his anger upon their arrival as he backed up putting Miya's body back down in the bed so he could expand his territory throughout the room. "I must admit that it was quite ingenious of Koenma to hide the key of breaking the barrier within a young girl's heart. If I destroy that-."
"It's not wise to continue conversation in this room if you wish to keep your soul," Kaitou warned concentrating on the words he had marked in his mind. "I can mark any word of my choosing or any sound that comes out of your mouth that can allow me to take your soul." Sensui smirked at his little power. Yes, it was pretty impressive, but he wouldn't need words to get what he needed. The former Spirit Detective kept his eyes on Kaitou's as he walked slowly towards the suffering Miya. Turning his full attention to Miya once he was right next to the bedside, Sensui pulled back his hand so he could reach into her chest and pull out her heart. However, as his hand was coming downward, it was blocked by a barrier making him wondering what was going on. "Oh," Kaitou began keeping his eyes on the two, "Did I neglect to mention that anyone within my territory cannot use brute force to get what they want?"
Sensui looked at Kaitou grinning at him, showing he was not afraid of his little barriers and or soul removal trick. "How intriguing."
"You risk your soul by speaking," Kaitou warned narrowing his eyes at Sensui.
Sensui said no more at the time as he started to walk slowly up to Kaitou making the teen stand his ground best he could though he knew this man was much stronger than he. Eventually Sensui stopped a few feet away from Kaitou. Seeing that he wasn't going to bolt made the man smirk, "There is a flaw in your barrier technique. Let's see if I am correct. Itsuki-pick up the girl." Hearing Sensui ask of this, made the other man walk towards the suffering girl and pick her up gently. Seeing the one he loved in the hands of the enemy made Kaitou step nervously towards the two, only to have his chest run into Sensui's flat, raised hand which eventually wrapped around his school uniform tightly. "I wonder-does your territory go down when I kill you?"
"Kill me if you want," Kaitou announced bravely knowing that Miya and his death was inevitable, "But if you do not kill me, I will say this…I will derive great pleasure in separating your soul from your body! I will do it the slowest way possible if you make me live without Miya."
"How sweet," Sensui remarked before throwing the boy across the room. Kaitou's back slammed into the wall causing it to crack upon impact before his body fell to the floor. "As much as I would like for the love birds to suffer by the nerd watching his woman fall, I cannot afford to have him conscious." Turning back to Itsuki he nodded towards the bed, "Put her down. I can take it from here." Looking down at the shaking Miya whose eyes were still shut tightly from pain he sat down on the bedside examining her body. "You poor child," He whispered eerily as he ran his hands through her hair that was a bit damp from her sweating, "I can only imagine the pain you are in right now. Being the gentleman that I am let me help lessen it for you." Taking his right hand he pulled back yet again before shoving his fist into her chest right where her heart was. Miya's screams echoed throughout the apartment as she was torn into. All fell silent once her heart was torn from her body and in the hands of Sensui. "Game over," Was all the former Spirit Detective had to say before closing his hand tightly on her heart.

Koenma sat at his desk in his teen form up in Spirit World with his forehead resting on his overlapped hands. It was over. They had all failed to stop Sensui and now, Midori's twin sister, was dead. "I shouldn't have entrusted the barrier to a young defenseless girl…that was my first mistake," Koenma said aloud to himself.
There was a knock at the door soon and the young ruler allowed whoever it was to come inside. Botan opened the door with her hands folded in front of her as she stepped into the room. "The demons you summoned are here, Koenma."
"Bring them in," Koenma ordered getting up out of his chair.
Botan nodded as she pushed open the door for the 9 demons to come into the room. Raizen was the first to enter the room while the other demons followed behind him. Then there was his son, Jin Kaze Tsukai and his son's team member and friend, Touya. Shishiwakamaru was coming in behind them with his former team leader, Suzuka. Kurama and Hiei were summoned as well and, against Hiei's better judgment, he came along thanks to Kurama's assistance. The tallest demon in the group, Chuu was in the back with little Rinku on his shoulder wondering what they would be needed for. "Alright, Koenma," Raizen said on behalf of everyone else, "What is it you want?"
Koenma sighed wondering if these 9 could help him, "The world of man is almost over but it is my job to protect it. Please, I am begging all of you to try and stop the demons that have already crossed over. All of your attacks can take out several demons in one blow. I will be in your debt if you all manage to do this for me." Everyone was silent hearing him announce this as they wondered if they should or not since the human world was really no concern of theirs. Nobody said a word. All that could be heard was whispers of uncertainty. When they refused to answer Koenma slammed his hand down on the desk catching their attention. "Please! Yuske and the others are trying their hardest to stop the demons already lose! The least you could do is help the boy who spared the ones of you who participated in the Dark Tournament…"
"I'll help him," Jin's voice eventually spoke up. All eyes focused on Jin when his chipper voice broke the silence after Koenma's plea. "I'll be more than willing to help Yuske and the others."
"You know I would not hesitate to help Yuske after all we have been through," Kurama said as well.
Kurama looked down at Hiei who was frowning at the moment. "Whatever-I really don't care what happens. I am up for destroying a few demons but not to help the human race," Hiei eventually remarked.
Everyone was soon agreeing to help and it all came back down to Raizen who had yet to speak his mind. Koenma really needed this leader on his side being that he was an S class demon and could handle anything that came his way especially when it came to there being other S class demons that were lose out there in the world now. "I will be willing to help him. He is my other son after all. Is that all we need to take care of? What about the two men who opened the barrier to begin with?"
"I am betting they were torn apart by S class demons by now," Koenma hoped as he announced it aloud, "Just worry about keeping the demons back and I will try to reconstruct the barrier with help."
Botan waited outside with Midori who was ordered to stay in the Spirit World Castle. "I pray things are going well," Botan said quietly and nervously. Midori looked up at the messenger girl whose hands were resting on her shoulders seeing her eyes sparkling in the dim light. She was fighting back tears of worry and sadness for Kurama and the others. She and Kurama were together for all Midori knew and they loved one another dearly. Knowing that the one she loved was going out there to fight demons that may be more powerful than himself, made her sick inside.
Once the briefing was done, the door opened yet again and the group of demons came out of Koenma's office. Kurama stopped and turned to face Botan. "Botan…may I speak to you alone?" Botan wondered what was wrong as she nodded, looking briefly down at Midori. Midori signaled that she would be fine by herself allowing the girl to run off to Kurama's side so she could talk with him. She watched as they walked off down the long hallway, hand in hand whispering to one another quietly.
The other demons that exited the room didn't pay any mind to the little girl who was standing against the wall with a hurting expression. All but one that is. Touya stopped walking with the others making his partner in crime to stop as well following his gaze. They looked over at the girl, whose back was against the wall and looking down at her feet, her brown and white hair covering most of her face. He and the others were told of what happened to the barrier and her twin sister making him pity her. Touya looked up at Jin before he reached over and tilted her chin upward. "Hay, watch this," Touya whispered once her eyes were looking at his. Holding his hand out flat, his ice power began to move poetically about his hand as she watched as it came together in the form of a rose. Taking it by the ice stem, Touya handed it over to Midori. "Here-take this."
Reaching over to the clear rose Midori took it into her hand looking down to hide the blush on her face. "Th-Thank you."
"There you go," The Ice Master said with a soft smile, "Know that this will soon be over with and you have nothing to worry about." Taking his thumb he brushed her cheek gently trying to give her hope, "So, chin up and don't fret about it, little one." Jin waited patiently for his partner to continue walking and eventually he did head off with the rest. Midori watched as they eventually headed out of sight praying everything would be alright in the end.
Botan was latched onto Kurama tightly, not able to hold back those tears anymore as she knew what he had to do. "This is all such a mess!" She cried as she rested her head into his chest.
"Botan," Kurama sighed softly, "I promise I will come back in one piece. Just…stay here and wait for me, alright?" All the poor messenger girl could do was nod as she kept a firm grip on his arms not wanting to let him go. Placing his hands gently on her cheeks, he tilted her head upwards so he could at least kiss her to show how much he cared. I will come back, Kurama thought keeping his lips on hers. One way or another I will come back to you.
---
Midori waited for what felt like centuries in the castle in the sky looking out the window waiting for everything to be alright. It never was. It was still raining hard outside of Koenma's office and down there on earth as well. Koenma was at his desk looking rather pale as he continued to focus on the events that were occurring down on earth. Looking down at the rose in her hands Midori sighed heavily remaining in prayer hoping that would be enough to support the demon's causes.
She was about to ask Lord Koenma if everything was alright but his sudden outburst prevented her from doing so. "Dammit!!" He swore loudly, slamming his hands down on the desk, making him get to his feet.
"Koenma, sir," Botan began as she ran into the room in a panic, "We cannot rebuild the barrier! An S class demon is stopping our forces from doing it!"
Koenma stood there looking angrily down at his desk as he knew what the problem was. "Dammit, Yomi," was all that slipped from his mouth. Midori was silent wanting to know what was going on as she stood there twirling the ice rose in her fingers. "That's not the only problem we have right now, Botan…Sensui and Itsuki are still alive."
"But how??" Botan asked feeling her heart sink.
"Sensui is probably working for Yomi to help keep the barrier open for all types of demons to emerge into this world," Koenma answered as his hands turned into fists, "Nobody will be able to beat them…no even Raizen who has limited strength." Botan and Midori both gasped as they looked back and forth between one another. "Will no one show us mercy…?"
Midori looked back out window to try and ease her worries. She was frightened, however, once the ice rose shattered into a million pieces right in her very hand. "What-what happened??" Midori asked turning to Koenma and Botan. Koenma said nothing as he shook his head in despair upon witnessing the breaking of the rose.
---
"What the hell do you mean it's over??" Yuske demanded to know once he came back before Koenma a few days later. "It's not over until I pound every last one of those things into the shit hole they climbed out of!"
"Yuske," Koenma began calmly, "It is over…the human race is going to die. Sensui sealed the 9 demons spirits in statues across the world making it impossible to try and get to them without being killed."
"Just listen to me for a minute, will you, junior??" Yuske ordered angrily, "Sensui said something to Yana, Kaitou, Kido, and me after he sealed the demons away. He said if there was something out there with enough strength and courage to awaken them, then they could be reawaken!"
Kido stood close to Midori who was heartbroken over the demons getting their lives thrown away just to protect the human kind. A kind that a good many demons didn't even take interest in. "And who, Yuske-who do you propose we use to summon these demons when there is no human besides you and the other selected few who have powers??"
Yuske's eyes darted about the room till they landed on Midori. "What about her?"
"Midori?!" Kido and Koenma both asked at once.
Hearing her name made Midori snap to her senses wondering why the topic suddenly changed to her. "Yuske, have you lost it?!" Kido demanded to know stepping in front of the young girl, "She has already lost her sister and you want her to join Miya up here?!"
"Kido, listen to me," Yuske began as he walked over to the furious blonde, "She won't have to do it alone because we can help her."
"She is too young," Kido replied getting rather angry, "And our powers are not that strong to take on all these demons!"
"We have to do something or else we will be all there is of a dying race!" Yuske growled with his hands crossed over his chest.
"Be quiet, the both of you," Koenma ordered sounding serious for once in his life as he turned to the three. Walking over to Midori, the ruler of Spirit World looked down at her asking, "Midori-it has sadly come down to this. Your sister has helped us the best she could and now she is gone because of Sensui. It may take a few years but you can go out and not let her death be in vain."
"We don't have-!"
Koenma raised his hand to prevent Yuske from complaining as he kept his eyes on the young Midori. "I grieve for my sister…of course I do. And I am sorry that the 9 demons had to give up their lives for a race they care nothing about…if it will show my sorrow for them, I will learn to call for these 9 demons and ask for their help once more."
Kido looked down at Midori in shock unable to believe that this little girl was agreeing to put her life on the line. "Alright," Koenma said quietly, "All of you-you, Botan, Yuske, Kido, Yana, and Kaitou will train for 12 years…maybe by then you will all be strong enough to pick up where the demons failed."
Midori could tell he was doubtful but what else could they do? Opening her closed hands she reviled the pieces of ice that had yet to melt away but remained broken from the rose it once was. I will set you free…I will set you all free…
