Lil Lovely Angel: I thought this up while reading one of my favorite books. Please R&R I WANT your opinions.
My name is Esmé. I am the Fox Queen. As a girl, I was the daughter of Shinosuke and Celia. My mother died when I was young. I remember nothing of it and nobody ever mentioned it. When I became older, my father was taken by illness and grew weak. When he died, he told my aunt and uncle something that changed my life forever.
“Papa, you're growing weaker by the day. Please stay in bed.” Esmé begged. Shinosuke slowly pulled himself up against the headboard of his bed. He was painfully thin and was growing thinner as the days passed. He placed his bonny hand on his daughter's pretty face. “You worry too much Esmé. I've lived a long life. When I'm gone, an honorable fox will rule in my place.” He whispered. Esmé nodded her head. “Yes papa, it will be I that will rule in your place. I'll do it on my own. I don't need any man to help me rule.”
“Shh, don't talk like that Esmé, you'll need a companion in the future. Nothing can be accomplished on your own.” Shinosuke said weakly. Esmé sighed in defeat. She hated when her father spoke like that. She was the fox princess and as the heir to the king, she would take her rightful place as the next ruler after he passed on. She'd rule dutifully, honorably, the way her father once did. She'd be the woman her mother wanted her to be. But her first priority was to take care of her dying papa. “Esmé, go downstairs and tell Yurime to come to me. I'd like a word with her.”
Without an argument about her father's rest, Esmé walked out of the room in search of her aunt Yurime. She found her outside the castle, sitting on a swing with a baby in her arms. “Yurime, papa wants to see you. Please go quickly and don't talk too long. He needs his rest. He won't get better without it.” Esmé said. Yurime handed her baby to Esmé carefully. “Esmé, there's no telling if he will get well in his condition. The poison that entered his body was too strong for my potions to cure.” Yurime explained. She walked inside the castle with Esmé following behind her with the infant in her arms. She often wondered how her father had gotten such a sickness. No one mentioned it around her. Could it be that the illness was linked with the death of her mother? Why was it so taboo to talk of it in front of her? Esmé turned the corner and went to Yurime's room. There, she laid the sleeping infant in its crib. It wriggled a bit then fell into a light sleep, snoring softly. Esmé quietly exited the room and walked towards her father's room again. She was walking, she came across a mirror. She stopped to gaze at her reflection. How she looked so like her mother. She closed her eyes and tried to compare herself to her deceased mother. The same light green hair, the beautiful blue eyes and the sensational figure that turned the heads of male youkos. And like her mother, she held a certain grudge for one particular youko, Conya. Conya was a cunning youko that was do anything and everything to get things her way. What she wanted more than anything was for Shinosuke to die so she could rule as the fox queen. But that would never happen, the law clearly stated that any heir to the ruler would immediately become the new leader. So had been for over five thousand years. Esmé opened her eyes but didn't only see her blue eyes staring at her. The eyes belonged to another cunning youko by the name of Kurama. Esmé whirled around only to be taken into his embrace. “Let go of me!”
“Why? You know you like. I can see it in your eyes. I can give you more than this if you like.”
Esmé struggled against Kurama but he held on tight. “You should stop resisting princess. Why can't you admit you're attracted to me?” He crooned. Kurama's hands moved up Esmé's stomach and onto her firm breasts. He exhaled in her ear to show his satisfaction. That sickened Esmé. She elbowed him in the stomach and he released her. Wasting no time, Esmé fled up the stairs towards her father's room, leaving a lonely youko with a devious smile on his face. “One way or another, my dear Esmé, I will have you.”
Later that night, the fox pack sat together in the study. Men and their wives, boys and girls Esmé's age huddled together to listen to Yurime. “How is he?”
“He's not getting any better. We knew this day would come. After then incident two hundred years ago, it was only a little time before his body started to weaken. All I can say right now is that he doesn't have much time to live.”
Esmé grimaced as she listened to every word. Her father was dying and there was nothing anyone could do. Not even Yurime, who was the best at making antibiotics and healing potions for the sick. She glanced over at Kurama, who seemed to be as worried as she. Her father had taught him to be what he was now. Everything except flirtatious. He flirted with a lot of the other fox girls but his main priority seemed to be to make Esmé his. She sucked in her breath as she watched him wink at the blue haired girl Juri. ::: That bastard. :::
“Listen, as the daughter of our leader, Esmé will lead us. But she has to have a mate. That's the law in this pack. The first blue moon in the Makai is when we'll have to ordeal. The winner will receive Esmé as a mate.” Yurime said. Esmé snorted and stood up. “ I am no one's prize Yurime. That's if I accept him. There are kind men here, as well as low down dirty bastards. I won't mention their names but they are among us.” Esmé said. Her gaze fell on Kurama, who gave her a sexy smile and licked his lips. Esmé turned away and started to her room but Yurime called out to her. “Wait Esmé, there's something I have to say that even you may want to hear. As you all know, the next blue moon is in two months. Even if our king lives to that night, Esmé will still claim the title of our new leader. That is what he said to me and we will honor it.”
“Bullshit!”
Everyone turned to an angry Conya. She had risen from her place beside her younger brother Haku. “What did you say Conya?”
“You heard me old woman! That's a load of shit! Everyone here knows that Esmé can't lead us. Fuck, she can't lead a fox to the moon. We'll be thrown into complete turmoil if she takes the lead. I challenge little Miss Princess to a duel for the right to leadership.”
Immediately, everyone broke into whispers. “I have no reason to battle you Conya. The law is the law. That's how it's been for centuries. You know what happens to those who don't honor the law. You either follow it or be eliminated.” Esmé said. Conya snarled at Esmé as she walked up the stairs then crossed her arms. “Big words coming from a little girl. I know you're just hiding behind the law. It's easy for the leaders to hide behind the law. Your father was a fool! Many of our pack rulers were fools! They had to chance to change the law but instead, the followed some old raggedy tradition. They were all cowards!”
Kurama rose from his seat and backhanded Conya. “Don't you ever insult the dead! Each of them ruled with dignity and honor till the bitter end. You will respect them or face death. Understand?”
Yurime smiled to Kurama. “The man is right Conya. You will honor our tradition or face the consequence. With that said all of you go home and sleep well.”
Esmé walked up the stairs to her room. Kurama defending her had taken a toll on her. Was he speaking like that to earn praise from her or to honor her father? Either way, she was pleased. Hopefully, a hot bath would draw her mind from both Kurama and Conya.
Lil Lovely Angel: Well there's chapter one. Please R&R and tell me what you're thinking!
