In the morning, Tory awakes to a clank. Perking up, she looks towards the door, expecting it to be Kurama again. She sobers when it's only George the Ogre. “What do you want?” she asks, rubbing her eyes.
“Lord Koenma would like to implant those tracking devices now,” he explained.
“Wait, implant? I thought it was just going to be a bracelet or something.” Shaking his head, George unlocked the door, waking up Keri.
“Hi George,” Keri greeted sleepily. “What's up?”
“It's time to go get your trackers implanted,” George responded.
“IMPLANTED!!!!!!!!!” Keri said in alarm. Running over to Keri, Tory grabbed her before she could dart out of the door.
“Keri, calm down. They'll probably sedate us first.” Immediately after saying that, she winced. `Not a good thing to tell her genius. She's afraid of needles!' she thought.
“They have to use needles. No way am I doing that,” Keri said.
Locking the door behind him, George approached, pulling out a needle and making sure all of the air is out of it. `Better to do this now while she's in an enclosed space and already restrained by her friend.' He thought. Tory holds on to Keri tighter after she starts to struggle, spotting the needle. George quickly administers the drug to the struggling girl, who looks at her friend with a pitiful look before succumbing to the drug.
Several others that work for Koenma arrive and carry Keri and escort Tory to the lab. After getting them situated on tables, they sedated Tory as well and she slowly fell asleep. Suddenly, things that weren't attached to the floor started to levitate. Scientists corral them to the ground while more objects start to float.
“What's going on here?!” One scientist (let's call him….Bob) said, grabbing a chair.
“You should know! You're the one who only gave the demon a human dose of sedative!” a second scientist (His name will be….Ralf) snapped at Bob.
“Opps,” Bob said sweatdropping. He quickly gave Tory another dose and all of the floating objects clattered to the ground.
Groaning, Keri opened her eyes, looking at the dismal surroundings of her cell. Placing a hand to the patch of gauze right behind her ears, she glanced over at Tory. “Hey Tory, wake up,” she said, shaking her. When she got no response, she shook harder. “Wake up!” Hearing footsteps, Keri turned to see Kurama. “Get in here and wake up your wife Kurama.”
Waking to something soft on her lips, Tory opened her eyes to look directly into Kurama's beautiful green eyes. She returns the kiss but it was interrupted when Keri coughed in an impatient manner. “Get a room,” Keri said, rolling her eyes.
“We have one, find one for yourself,” Tory returned.
“Like I can get out of here without the royal toddler yelling at me.” Kurama releases her and she stands beside him, laying her head dizzily on his shoulder. “Are you okay?” Keri asked in concern.
“Sure, I'm…” she falls to the ground in a limp heap.
“Is she okay?” Keri asks Kurama as she knelt down next to Tory with Kurama next to her.
“Your guess is as good as mine.” Slowly coming around, Tory groaned.
“Are you okay Tory?”
“I don't….know.” Tory curled up so her head was resting in Kurama's lap.
“Maybe we should take her to a doctor,” Keri suggested.
“I wholeheartedly agree,” Kurama said.
“Than let's go,” Keri said, walking over to the door. “Once you open the door that is.”
“I forgot the key on the other side,” Kurama said with an embarrassed look on his face. In his lap, Tory moaned and rolled into a tighter ball.
“Kurama, do something!” Keri demanded.
“Like what?” Kurama asked with a slight glare. “Contrary to popular belief I am not a walking pharmacy.”
“No, but you can use your plants to get the key.”
“I had forgotten about that. But you also had forgotten about something. My plants are made for killing not corralling keys. Either acid would melt it, thorns would dice it, or a mist would shroud it from view. I had to surrender the others to Koenma until we're settled in the house. Something about getting married without permission first,” Kurama said.
“Fine, I'll do it my way,” Keri said, turning towards the door. Behind her, Tory groans again, and not all from pain.
“GEORGE, GET DOWN HERE!!!!!!!!!!!” Keri hollered at the top of her lungs. Both Kurama and Tory shushed her. “I don't see any of you doing anything.” She looked back down the hall and smiled. “Here he comes.” When he arrives, she spoke before he could. “Genius over there locked himself in and Tory needs a doctor.” Nodding, George unlocked the door and let them out. Picking up Tory and holding her bridal style, Kurama carried her out of the cell. She wound her arms around his neck and sighed into his chest, happy to be warm in his embrace, or for that matter warm period.
When they reached the doctor's office, the doctor came over and looked at Tory. “What's wrong?”
“I don't know, she just collapsed,” Keri said. The doctor motioned for Tory to be placed on one of the beds and looked her over.
“Did she eat anything right before she collapsed?”
“No, the only thing that happened before was us getting sedated and getting implants in us.” Remembering this, Keri scowled.
“Move aside please,” the doctor said, pushing Kurama and Keri out of the way and motioning for a nurse to come over. When she joined him, they began working on Tory.
A while later the doctor turned and faced Kurama and Keri. “It looks like an allergic reaction and a minor overdose of the sedative. She'll be just fine. Just take her home and make sure she gets a lot of rest.
“Alright,” Kurama said, moving to Tory's side as she begins to stir.
“What's going on? Why…why am I here?”
“You fell over,” Keri said dryly.
“Oh.”
“It wasn't very graceful either,” Kurama teased.
“Can we go now? Doctors offices make me nervous,” Tory said.
“Certainly.” Kurama scooped Tory into his arm and walked out of the doctors.
When they got to Kurama's house, he put Tory in a guest room then went to the kitchen to find me raiding the fridge. Turning around, Keri smiled at him with a box in my hand. “Want some sweet snow?” Laughing slightly, Kurama extracts the box from her hand.
“I don't think so, you don't need the sugar.”
“But…” Keri grabs for the box but Kurama moves it up, out of her reach.
“Meanie,” Keri complained with a pout. Ruffling her hair, he started to guide her to a room. “Don't do that!” she exclaimed, slapping his hand away. “I'm not a little kid!”
“You act as if.” Keri glared at him then crossed her arms and looked away.
Meanwhile, Tory climbs out of bed and goes to take a shower.
“Have a nice nap Keri,” Kurama aid, closing the door behind him as he left. A faint click alerted Keri to its locked status.
“KURAMA!!!” Keri ran over to the door and jiggled the handle. “YOU ARE SO DEAD WHEN I GET OUT OF HERE!!!”
A laugh came through the door. “I highly doubt that, friend of my wife. Have you forgotten that I am full demon? A mere human such as yourself is hardly a threat.”
Flopping on the bed, Keri scowled and muttered, “Stupid fox.”
“Turning into Hiei now, are we?”
“Hiei's nice then you are!”
The door suddenly unlocked and Kurama looked inside. “Hiei nicer then…!” Laughing, he closed and locked the door again. “Go to sleep.”
“NO!” Keri crossed her arms and glared the ceiling.
Taking a deep breath and inhaling the moist air Tory tossed aside my clothes and climbed into the shower. Meanwhile;
“Suit yourself but I give you five minutes before everything catches up to you and you realize you're stuck with me for the next two years and you break down and cry or you collapse from exhaustion. Either way you're out of my hair,” Kurama said.
“Shut up,” Keri retorted. “You're mean.”
“Mean? No, I'm just stating the facts. If you feel you'd like to visit with Tory before what I've predicted happens, feel free.” He unlocked the door before walking away. After staring at the door for a while, Keri got up and made her way over. Opening the door, she looked around for Kurama. Not seeing him, she made her way down the hall to Tory's room and knocked on the door.
“Tory?” There was no response, but she heard running water. “She must be in the shower,” she murmured to herself with a sigh. Walking back to her room, she curled up on the bed.
Finished with the shower, Tory slid out of the shower and wrapped herself in a towel, turning off the water and leaving the bathroom. Entering the bedroom, she froze. “Where do I sleep?”
Hearing Tory walking around, Keri jumped out of bed and ran over to her room. “Hi Tory!”
“Uh…hi KJ,” Tory said in surprise.
“What'cha doin'?”
“I was going to get changed but have realized that I haven't another change of clothes with me. So here I stand, clad in nothing but a towel.”
“Me too, we need to go shopping.”
“But we're not allowed off of Kurama's property and I highly doubt that he owns a small shopping mall,” Tory pointed out.
“I have an idea. You go wait in my room while I wash your clothes.”
“Okay I guess.” She headed off to Keri's room, not watching where she was going. Soon she ran into a wall she swore that wasn't there before. Behind her, Keri ran off down the hall the other direction after grabbing Tory's clothes.
“Hi K-Kurama,” Tory stuttered.
“Hello Tory,” Kurama responded, smiling down at her. Tory wrapped her towel tighter around her as she discretely edged around Kurama.
“Um…nice seeing you…I…um…I gotta go…gotta go, bye!” She ran off as Kurama quirked his eyebrow at her strange behavior.
In the laundry room, Keri hummed as she tossed Tory's clothes in the washer and sat down on a chair, taking out a book and starting to read.
Tory freezes where she is in the middle of the hall. “Oh man! I forgot to ask which room is Keri's!” Growling, she stalked off to find the very person she just ran away from.
Keri leaned back against the non-existent back of the chair, falling down to the ground, my book hitting the dryer with a bang.
Tory finally finds Kurama and goes to tap him on the shoulder but the towel prevents that; however her voice doesn't seem to want to work either. A bang from nearby makes Kurama whirl around and plow into her before he can stop.
Kurama looks down in surprise at the still speechless Tory. She grabbed the towel, which had slipped a little, and got to her feet.
Keri walks into the room and looks between the two of them then leaves with a smile, returning to the laundry room. Ignoring her, Kurama studied Tory and smiled. “Technical difficulties there Mrs. Minimoto?” Tory nodded. “Is that your newest fashion statement?” he said over his shoulder as he returned to his task.
“I…I have no clothes in this residence.”
“I see. That may be a problem. I suppose Keri is experiencing similar difficulties. Though she seems to be able to bear staying in her clothes.”
“I..I took a shower. Keri is washing my clothes presently,” Tory stuttered.
“Is that so?”
Keri hummed to herself, once again trying to lean against the non-existent seat back and once again landing on the floor with a thud. “Stupid chair!”
Tory glances over at the source of the sound, instantly knowing that Keri is the source of the thud. “Not a moment's peace with her around,” she said, annoyed.
Keri mutters under her breath as she regained her feet. “Stupid chair!” she repeated. Glaring at the chair, she gave it a vicious kick.
Quirking his eyebrow at the next crash, Kurama went to investigate. He soon returned with a ranting and raving female. “I believe this is yours,” Kurama said as Tory glared at Keri.
“That stupid chair!! Who makes them without backs?!” Keri said angrily. Tory's glared intensified when Keri talked. Laughing nervously, Keri backed off a little. “Your laundry's done. I think I'll be going now.”
Tory removed the hand that was holding the towel up to wag her finger at Keri before she could slink off. Unfortunately, nothing was left to hold the towel up and, well, gravity works. Kurama's eyes widened and he quickly turned away, his face turning slightly red. Mortified, Tory scooped up the towel and ran from the room, sobs echoing back to where the other two stood in shock. Recovering quickly, Keri took off after her.
Hearing someone come after her, Tory ducked into the first unlocked room she came to, which happened to be a closet. Locking the door behind her, she slumped against the wall and stifled her sobs, so that whoever was in her pursuit wouldn't find her.
Running past the closet, Keri soon stops and goes back. Knocking on the door, she said, “Tory, I know you're in there; it's kinda hard to hide when you dripping wet.” Tory starts crying again but refuses to unlock the door. “Come on Tory, open the door.”
Tory shook her head, even though Keri couldn't see it. “No.”
“Please? Come on Tory…”
“No.”
Keri sighed. “Okay, I'll fold your clothes and leave them in my room which is three doors down to your right.”
“NO! Leave them in front of the door.”
“Okay, in front of the door it is.” Stifling a yawn, Keri moved off. Blinking away the last of her tears, Tory waited for her return in silence. “Here you go Tory,” Keri said a few minutes later, putting the clothes on the ground. “Kurama's cooking dinner, it'll be ready in about 15 minutes.
“Okay,” Tory mumbled as Keri walked off, muttering something about sweet snow. A few minutes later, Tory opened to door and reached for the clothes but another hand intercepts hers.
“I was going to return these to our room,” Kurama said, clothes in hand. The `our' went over her head as she grabbed the clothes and ran for Keri's room.
In the kitchen, Keri snuck into the kitchen and grabbed a box of ice cream from the fridge and headed back toward her room.
Tory got to Keri's room and locked it just as Kurama grabbed the knob. “Come on Tory, it's not a traumatizing experience. You are my wife after all.”
Hearing his voice, Keri froze and headed back the other way, re-entering the kitchen and hiding under the kitchen table.
Kurama sighed in frustration when Tory gave him no inclination that she was still listening to him or even still in the room. “Look, dinner's almost ready. We would be happy if you would join us.”
“I'll…think about it.” Shaking his head, Kurama returned to the kitchen. He went over to the stove, but turned and stood in front of the table. Kneeling down, he looked at Keri and shook his head.
“I said you couldn't have any.”
“That was fifteen minutes ago,” Keri quipped with a smile. Shaking his head, Kurama took the nearly empty box from her.
“Go see if Tory's joining us for dinner.”
“What's going on between you two anyway?” Keri questioned, not moving.
“She's embarrassed,” Kurama said with a rueful smile,
“But you two are married, what's there to be embarrassed about?”
“Just go find her,” Kurama said, getting annoyed.
“Sir yes sir!” Keri said, giving him a mock salute and crawling from under the table. Getting to her feet, she ran to Tory's…..her room and pounded on the door.
“Go away,” Tory said miserably.
“Nope, Sergeant Kurama sent me to get you.”
“Shut up Mrs. Jack in the Box.”
“Come out here and make me,” Keri said with a smirk.
“I'm not an idiot. I open the door you come in and drag me out. Not happening,” Tory said in a cool tone.
“Darn,” Keri said quietly. “Fine you don't have to come out but you do have to unlock the door. It is my room after all.”
“Go fetch the keys from Kurama.”
“Do I look like a dog to you? Besides, he mad at me.”
“What did you do KJ?” Tory said with a brittle laugh.
“I kinda ate most of his sweet snow,” Keri said in a guilty voice.
“Sweet snow? Since when do you call in sweet snow?”
“Since I met Hiei,” Keri said with a smile. “Now come on, unlock the door. I promise not to drag you to dinner.”
“Fine, I'll unlock the door, but I swear if you drag me out or Kurama comes in I'll bite nice and hard.”
“I can't say anything about Kurama, but I won't drag you out.”
“Then no deal,” Tory said.
Keri let out a small scream of frustration. “Fine, if Kurama comes near I'll make him go away.” The door swung open and Tory dragged her in.
“Why are you so bent on avoiding Kurama?” Keri asked.
“I'm…not avoiding his per say. I just can't bear to face him quite yet.”
“You're avoiding him. But why? He's your husband!”
“I forced him into that position Keri! I'm sure if he had his choice he'd back out of it quicker then I could blink.”
“I'm not so sure about that. I think he likes you.” A strangled laugh escaped Tory. “I'm serious!”
“So am I. Plus like is hardly a basis if a marriage.”
Keri sighed and put her head in her hands. “It's a start though. Its better then him hating you.”
“Not by much, especially where my body is concerned,” Tory said, blushing.
“Come on Tor, give the guy a chance. I'll tell ya what, I'll bring some dinner back here for you. That okay?” Keri said, looking up and Tory and smiling.
“I'm…not hungry. I'm going to take a nap.” True to her word, Tory laid down on the bed.
“Alright,” Keri said after looking at her for a few moments. As soon as Keri left the room, Tory was asleep.
Back in the kitchen, Keri flopped down on a chair and yawned. “She's not coming. She said she was going to take a nap.”
“Not coming? The all persuasive friend couldn't lure her out of hiding? Perhaps I should go back and drag her out,” Kurama said.
“NO! Believe me, if you went back there she'd bite your head off and give it to you on a silver platter. Is dinner ready?”
After processing Keri's sudden change in subject, Kurama nodded. “Yes.”
“Good.” Keri interrupted herself with a yawn. “I'm hungry,” she continued.
“Tired sounds more like it,” Kurama said with a chuckle. “Eat, then go to bed.”
“Huh?” Keri said tiredly. “Oh yeah.” She grabs a spoon and tried to eat but misses the bowl then let her head fall against the table with a thump.
“Forget it. You can go to sleep and eat later. It's only a little past noon after all. If Tory's asleep I'll carry her to our room and put her to bed there.” In response to Kurama, Keri stood and yawned, walking down the hall to her room. When they entered they found Tory sleeping soundly curled up on the bed.
“Does she sleep like that all the time?
“No,” Keri answered. “Yes,” she corrected.
“Well, which is it?”
“I don't know.”
“I see, none of the above. Do you really not know or are you just trying to get me out of here?” Kurama questioned.
“Both,” she responded with a yawn.
Smiling amusedly, Kurama scooped Tory's sleeping form into his arms and she unconsciously snuggled closer to his warmth. Kurama brought Tory to their room and laid her down on the bed, pulling the covers over her sleeping form. After grabbing another blanket to ward off the slight shill of the room, Kurama sat down next to the bed and watched Tory sleep.
