Chapter 1: Happiness

“WOW! Incredible!” a kid beside me remarked. His big brown eyes were gazing at one of the marvelous and enormous ships before us.
“Yeah…” I rubbed my hand on his head, intentionally messing up his light green hair.
“Hey!!!” he protested, scowling at me.
But I just smiled at him. This is my little brother, Eteru, and we get along pretty well enough although at times… like all siblings do, we fight.
I sighed as I looked at the whole view. There were five clean massive whitewashed ships on the pier with the blue water softly glistening on its edges and the red of the sunset gloriously paving up its upper portions.
A long time has already passed. Now, I'm a part of a happy family of four. To tell you the truth, I was the one who insisted that we come to this pier. I did this for I heard that these ships would be going to an island where a portal to the Underworld… Makai is open. I was very relieved too though baffled, that they allowed humans to view the ships before hand. I learned from a reliable source that this was actually an undercover operation of Reikai… Spiritworld. The unknowing human gamblers and insolent evil monsters, who all plan to go to Makai or anything to do with the like would be made to think that they had found beautiful liners that would take them to that island easily but of course, their journey would be shortened because when they reach the Spiritworld headquarters at sea, escape would already be futile and they would all be arrested and punished accordingly.
But I didn't visit these ships just because it had a mysterious and sneaky concept. Most important of all, I came here because my beloved Kurama was going with it. It would be the maiden voyage of such ships and Kurama was one of many who have been tasked by Koenma-sama to help in the maintenance of peace and order within the ships.
We went inside one huge ship that was nearest to where we parked our car. The interior was truly beautiful and breathtaking, it wasn't much of a modern luxury liner but everything was wood and medieval. It seemed to me like a high class and expensive hotel. It made me wonder why such spectacular ships would be used for such horrid and evil passengers, but I soon realized that this was all part of the plan to deceive them completely.

Suddenly, as my family and I wondered around the brightly lit and slick sealed wooden floor of the lower deck, this opal eyed, dark haired lady, in a dark purple matching skirt and blazer arrived and made a shooing gesture towards us. “Sorry, you have to leave now… The staff will arrive soon…” she even said.
“Kurama…” I whispered with thrill and excitement for finally I get to see him again.
“Please go now…” she practically pushed us all out of the nice room we were peering into.
“NO!” I protested and stood my ground. There was no way she would be able to drive me away… no way…
In the corner of my purple eyes I could see my parents looked blankly at me as I argued on with that irritating dark haired lady. Mom's green eyes reflected amazement and wonder while Dad's golden eyes manifested doubt and impatience because of my careless actions. Sadly, they don't know anything about my past, or shall I say my true being… especially my powers. For them I'm just an orphan, who needed their tender loving care…
“Mom… Dad… Why don't you go on ahead? I'll follow you shortly…” I said to them, the dark haired lady had already left us for she could not drive me away so easily and gave up the fight.
“Alright honey, we'll wait for you outside. Make it quick!” my mom said as she headed to the stairs to the higher decks…
“Come now, Eteru…” my dad bid him and they followed mom out.
I waited for them to be fully out of my sight before I went out on my mission to search for Kurama.
I surveyed each cabin to make sure that I won't miss Kurama at all. Sometimes, I would even see some of the crew who would all look oddly at me probably because I was obviously looking for someone and maybe also for the fact that I am a powerful half-demon myself.

I was getting pretty tired when I reached the upper deck. Soon I heard familiar voices coming from the room to my left.
“This is your suite. Anything else you want?” asked sweetly the voice of the agitating dark-haired woman.
“No, thank you… I'll do just fine.” Said an even more familiar tone…
“Kurama!!!” I had practically burst into the room.
They were both surprised to see me. The dark-haired lady was totally horrified while Kurama looked at me with a big grin.
“I'm so sorry, sir. I'll see to it that she is removed from here…” she grabbed my arm firmly.
“What the—“ I screamed at her angrily.
“No… I've been waiting to see her all my life…” we both heard Kurama say.
I could feel my cheeks get warm.
“You were?” the dark-haired woman was totally confused and uncertain.
“Yes!” I released myself from her cruel grip. “Now, Leave!” I ordered and pointed to the open door.
I waited for her to shut the door before I spoke again, ”I'm glad that's over.” I jumped on the suite's king-size sofa. I looked around and evaluated his suite and found it pretty adorable, with all the wooden furniture and decorative yet stylish ornaments. It seemed to me that such rooms are given only to the ones who are well to do. I glanced up at Kurama…
He just stared at me with his loving green eyes…
“What?” I blurted out, feeling quite uncomfortable of his intense gaze.
“I can't believe you are really here now…” he sat himself beside me.
I smiled. When I was adopted, I needed to stop going with Yusuke and the gang and even worse we had to move away to Osaka because of Dad's job.
“You missed me, huh?” I asked.
“Everyday…” he took my hand and squeezed it hard.
I smiled again,”I missed you too.” I admitted. “So how's everybody?” there was just so much to talk about.

We talked about everything and Yusuke and Keiko, Kuwabara, Hiei and everyone else. They were all well. He also told me that he needed to leave; fortunately it would only be temporary. After all he was tasked by Koenma-sama himself to be part of the undercover operation, he was specifically assigned to watch over the rich and greedy humans as the ships embark on a cruise to imminent arrest.
And all the while he was holding my hand and staring kindly at me. With that I knew that his heart still and will always belong to me. He is going to be mine forever. No matter what would happen… no matter what…
As we talked, I suddenly remembered something. I needed to tell Hiei that Natalie wanted to say `hi' to him.
“Oh!” I reacted out loud.
“Huh?!”
“I need to talk to Hiei. He is on board too, right?” I asked Kurama.
He just looked at me and didn't reply.
Well, as far as I know, Hiei is here probably assigned to be part of the operations as well. The only problem is where was he assigned but still I decided to immediately look for him. I stood up and gestured to leave when Kurama stopped me.
He was still holding onto me so he pulled me back down to him. “Didn't you hear me? I said I was leaving…” he repeated quite impatiently.
“I heard you!” I protested my tone raising. I didn't understand why he was making a big fuss over it…
“Then why are you ignoring me?”
“I am not—“before I could finish talking, he shushed me by putting his index finger on my lips…
I was surprised and said nothing. I just stared at him and waited for the next thing that would unfold…
He removed his finger and touched my cheek, “I love you, Sumire…” he whispered and leaned towards me.
I closed my eyes before our lips met.
It was the most wonderful kiss of my entire life. It was a deep and passionate kiss so full of love and longing…
I missed him so much and he felt the very same way.
The last lonesome days vanished. I was with Kurama and that was all that mattered… nothing else…
