Recovery
Kurama awoke to a soft pillow and nothing else. He looked around the room and listened for signs of Hiei's presence. Finding none he decided to get up and investigate. I wonder if he's downstairs cooking, I don't smelling anything though. Kurama slid on a pair of pants and made his way to kitchen. Once in the kitchen he found nothing, no food, no tea, and no Hiei. He sighed not knowing where the little youkai could have flitted off too. Then Kurama heard a voice in the garden.
“What did you see?” Hiei scratched his head
Kurama couldn't believe his eyes; Hiei was sitting in front of Ria's rose talking to it.
“So do you think it will be a problem?”
“What are you doing Hiei?” Kurama stood with his hands on his hips
Hiei's head shot up and he stood. “Nothing.”
“Nothing but talking to Ria's rose.” Kurama walked to Hiei's side, “Does she say anything to you?”
“When I want her to.”
“Nani?”
Hiei sighed and looked down at his feet, “This is too embarrassing” He began to walk away
“I don't understand, tell me what's going on!”
“I pretend that it talks to me sometimes alright!”
“Nani? Hiei have you lost your mind?”
“It makes me feel…less guilty.”
“:About her death?”
“Hai.”
“So you pretend that she is alive in that rose.”
Hiei turned toward the house, “:Sometimes it feels like she is. Maybe you should try talking to it.”
Hiei walked away leaving Kurama to stare at the silent rose. What in the world is wrong with him, why is he acting so weird? Then Kurama started to think…He's been acting `weird' ever since she died; did it really affect him that much? No! That's not like Hiei at all!
Kurama walked back into the house and found Hiei cooking.
“I don't understand you Hiei.”
“I know, and I'm sorry for confusing you kitsune.”
“How long have you been talking to her?”
“For about three weeks.”
“And what does she say?”
Hiei turned around with an annoyed look on his face, “I already told you that I…I pretend it talks.”
“I know, but what do you pretend that she's saying.”
“It doesn't matter.”
“It matters to me.” Kurama walked to him and wrapped his arms around Hiei's waist. “I need to know that you're ok.”
“I'm fine, don't worry. If you don't want me to talk to it anymore I won't. Now that you've caught me I don't think I'll do it again anyway.”
Kurama couldn't help but giggle at the slight ting of red on Hiei's cheeks.
“Kurama…”
“Don't worry, I won't tell the others about your little escapade with the rose.”
“It's not…”
“I'm just joking, I'm going to take a shower.”
“Now? I haven't finished cooking.”
“I know that way you stay down here while I'm up there.” Kurama pointed towards the stairs, “We don't need to make something like that become part of our daily hygiene.”
Hiei just sniffed and continued to scrabble the eggs.
Kurama closed his eyes and let out a long sigh. I don't know what to make of this. What if something's wrong with Hiei, it's just not like him. I know he's made a lot of changes but talking to a rose, that's ridiculous. But he did say I should give it try…Kurama finished bathing and quickly threw on some clothes. He determined to find out what this was all about.
“Where are you going?” Hiei had breakfast on the table accompanied by orange juice.
“I'm just going to take a quick trip out to the garden.”
“It better be quick, I won't make more eggs just because you let yours get cold.”
“Alright mother.”
“That's not funny, and don't prick you finger again dear. There's no telling what may happen this time.” He joked trying to sound like Kurama's mother.
Kurama laughed and walked out to the garden
He looked down on the purple rose, wondering what would possess Hiei to do something so out of character. Sitting down he pictured Ria's face, thinking of what she would say to him at this very moment.
“Can't think of anything huh?” Her voice echoed in his head
“Just wondering if this is the work of my imagination or did you really just say that.” He responded in his mind
“What do you think?”
“I think I'm making this all up. But where else am I going to find answers?”
“Answers to what?”
“What's making Hiei act so weird.”
“Maybe it's that I really am talking to him, like I'm really talking to you.”
“No you're not; it's just me thinking of what you'd say.”
“Same thing I suppose, you know me like a writer would know their own book.”
“So that's it?”
“I guess, you tell me.”
“I wish I could just figure it out, what could you possibly saying to him?”
“Kurama.” Hiei's voice brought Kurama out of his thoughts
“Hai.”
“:You're talking to her?”
“I guess.”
“What does she say to you?”
“Nothing really, just what I think she would say.”
Hiei nodded, “Come on before your food gets cold.”
Kurama stood and started after Hiei, he gave one last glance at the rose before he walked through the door.
Night time had come around again, and again Kurama found himself in Hiei's arms breathing rather harshly.
“That was amazing.” Kurama wiped the sweat from his forehead
“You think so kitsune?”
“Nani, you didn't enjoy it?”
“I always enjoy being inside you.”
“Then you didn't find it mind blowing?”
“It was…great.”
Kurama sat up and looked Hiei in the eyes, “Then maybe next time you should be on the receiving end.”
Hiei shook his head and rolled over on his side, “I don't think so.”
“Does it disturb you that much?
“Not really, it's just the last thing I want is for you to call me by her name.”
“And you think I'd do that?”
“It's a possibility, I know how much you loved doing to her what I do to you.”
“Really now?”
“I've seen it with my own eyes.”
Kurama sat completely up and shook Hiei, “When?”
“That's not the point.”
“You spied on m?!.”
“I did a lot of things I shouldn't have when you were with her.”
Kurama laid back down, still upset, and still worried, “What are you going to do?”
“What do you mean?”
“I know you Hiei, I know that you're keeping something from me.”
“This is absurd.” He shot up from the bed and grabbed his pants
“So you're just going to leave. In case you've forgotten, this is how it started last time, with you leaving.”
“I'm going to the garden.” He turned and walked out the room leaving Kurama deathly pale
The garden? Why would he be going there?
This was Kurama's chance to find out what it was all about, why Hiei was acting so strangely.
He crept down stairs and to the door of the garden which Hiei had thankfully left cracked.
“I don't know what to do? What if he finds out?” Hiei sighed
Kurama frowned, Find out what?
“I don't want to hurt him, and if he knew…he'd…I don't know!”
What the hell is going on here is he really talking to that rose…or is he talking to Ria?
“All I have to do is wait just a little bit longer.”
For what?
“Then I promise to let you out.”
What?!
