Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ the Shadows that Bind (marina's finest work) ❯ Kurama chapter: Showing your power ( Chapter 6 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

I've gotten so many reviews! Thank you! Thank you! In return, I'm trying to update quickly!

But… problem is, my writing seems to be a bit more… quality over quantity… so be prepared for shortness…

I've been having so much inspiration lately! All people reviewing, go out there and write stories, so I can keep being inspired to write more!

Disclaimer: I own nothing but the Demon Slayers and Shadow master/mistresses…AND I own Maku!!!

You opened your eyes to deep emerald green orbs, the owner sighed with relief and moved back. It was Kurama, red hair and all.

"Kurama? What happened?" you asked, he smiled and shook his head,

"I believe you should be the one answering that, I didn't see what happened… but whatever did… knocked out Genkai and Yukina…"

"Yukina?" you frowned, no one had told you of any Yukina…

"The girl who healed you…"

"Oh… what knocked them out?" you noticed their lifeless bodies on the floor, not a single scratch on them… what had happened? Had another demon come and try to get at you?

"There was a huge burst of pure, raw energy… wild… untamed… but… it only effected Yukina and Genkai, when with the power level I sensed…. This whole place should have been demolished…" Kurama frowned, but quickly shook it off. Smiling once again, his emerald eyes sparkling with so many emotions… each one individually defined, you forgot about time, and place… getting lost within the swirl of emotion… "____? Are you alright?" you were brought back to real time… and blushed,

"Um… yes, perfectly fine…" you rubbed the back of your neck, and chuckled nervously, Kurama sighed.

"Do you have any idea what could have happened?" Kurama looked right into your eyes, the emotion filled beauty tried to make you lose yourself once more, but you forced yourself to look away…

"No… Could a demon have come here and done that?"

"No, Genkai would have eradicated any demons in an instant, or at least have sensed them and taken you to safety, and this place is protected by many strong wards… only two types of demon can pass it, unless authorised by the creator. They're Demon Slayers, and Shadow masters… or mistresses…" Kurama smiled, and you nodded…

"I see…" your eyes wandered, and you looked down to Yukina, and saw it… a small shard of black crystal… you walked over to it, and picked the shard up. It was a black gem, glistening with darkness…. Emanating it… like the one over your heart. You frowned, "Where could that have come from…." Kurama came over and looked at your finding,

"How odd… it looks like the shard of a Shadow crystal…" he furrowed his brow, and took the gem from your hand, his fingers soft and smooth as they touched your own, if only for an instant, your cheeks tinged pink, as did his own, but you took no notice.

"Shadow crystal?" you raised a brow, it sounded like he had made that up on the spot…

"Yes, a shadow crystal is the mark on a demon, or human, that they are next in line to become a shadow master, or mistress… but… .all the masters died long ago, before they were able to mark anyone… so how a shard could have gotten here… is beyond me…" Your mind clicked, 'Holy cow! I'm a chosen human!' you unconsciously put your hand over the gem, feeling the smooth surface under your shirt.

"Yeah… beyond belief…" you chuckled, deciding not to tell him… 'What he don't know can't hurt him…' you decided in your mind. You suddenly started to space out, 'How could I have been chosen if all of them are dead? Is it because of that shadow lady? Is she a shadow mistress? Why me, of all the people in the world?' questions such as these filled your mind, swirling and pulling you into utter confusion…

"_____, Genkai and Yukina are waking up!" you were pulled out of your world, and you kneeled down next to Kurama,

"…That is one experience I shall never forget…" Genkai smiled as she sat up, "Never in all my life have I seen such a powerful burst of spirit energy… it was wild… and yet controlled… very impressive…" You raised a brow at this, sure you had always thought people who believed they could heal others, and push people away without a touch were a little on the mad side… but this was ridiculous…

"_____, how did you use that energy? It was incredible…" Yukina smiled, you jumped back,

"Wha!?"

"You have incredible potential, ____, I see why Koenma thinks it is necessary to protect you… if anyone were to catch you…" Genkai shook her head, suddenly, out of nowhere, a floating toddler appeared…

"What the hey?!" You gasped and stepped back,

"I see that _____ is here, good work Kurama." The toddler inclined his head to Kurama,

"He talks…" you whispered, feeling slightly and dazed, and confused… "A floating talking… toddler… I must be totally mad…" the toddler glared at you,

"No you are not! I am Koenma, Prince of the Spirit world!" your left eyes twitched,

"A floating, talking, Prince of the dead toddler… oh boy… I really have cracked it now…" you sighed and shook your head,

"You aren't mad, Koenma is here to explain why you're here…" Kurama smiled, you sighed, and nodded. 'Might as well go along with all of this….' You thought to yourself,

"Anyway… ____, you are the reincarnation of the last of the Demon Slayers…. You see… centuries ago, a Demon Slayer, who's name has been lost, massacred all of the Slayers, because he felt that they were all imperfections against his standards… all…except one… her name was Yuniku, she hated the Slayer with all her heart, and killed him, than, realising that everyone she loved and cared for had been killed… cast a spell, making the demon species that had been extinct to return in mortal bodies. But there was, a terrible price… she had to take her own life for the spell to work, and her soul was not permitted to go into any afterlife, so she waited until the day the perfect body, with the right amount of spirit energy to be her vessel, or reincarnation, which ever was best for the time." Koenma took deep breathes, your jaw dropped,

"I'm no demon! No sir! I'm human, through and through!" you knew in your heart that would one day be a lie… if what Kurama had said before was true, you were going to become a Shadow Mistress one day,

"I hadn't finished!" Koenma growled, "Her spell backfired on her though… and only the last survivor of the extinct races would return. This included the Shadow Masters, or Mistresses… in this case… you were chosen by both the last of the Shadow Mistresses, and by the Demon Slayer…"

"Hold the phone… you saying I've got the spirits of two demons inside me?" you raised a brow, Koenma sighed, and shook his head.

"No… your own soul, is both a mix of the Demon Slayer soul, and of the Shadow Mistress' soul."

"Is that possible!?"

"Yes. Technically it is… oh, and I almost forgot to say, you have a whole army of demons out to get you. The others of the team will be trying to figure out who their leader is, Kurama will be teaching you how to use your energy, and Hiei, and a very good friend of mine, will be helping to protect you… and another thing, don't let anyone touch that gem without proper covering of their hands! I have to go now, lots of paperwork and such…" in an instant the baby was gone, before you got a chance to strangle him.

"Who's his friends?" you asked to no one in particular…

"I am…" you heard someone say, you looked around,

"I was wondering when you'd get here, Maku (AN yes finally the good character, me! lol!)," Kurama smiled, out of the shadows, a girl no older than you appeared, she had blue strips of hair framing her face, with streaks of black, but the rest of her hair, was a rich golden blonde. Her eyes were like pools of mercury, silvery, and ever shifting. She had two bat wings wrapped around herself, they were deep crimson, with black veins running through the membrane, it looked delicate, and refined. She had Kitsune ears, one blue with black stripes, and the other black with blue stripes, her tail was of gold. She wore a studded dog collar, buckle up, and matching studded bracelets. She had black combat boots, and a navy t-shirt on. She smirked, a fang going just over her bottom lip.

"I've been here since she came, I wanted to see what would happen, without being burnt to a cinder…" her eyes shifted over to you, she looked you up and down, definitely disapproving of you… "I see that once again spirits chose the wrong body to use… such a waste of power on a baka ningen…" Maku shook her head. You felt angry, wanting to explode,

"For once your right about something Maku…" another voice made itself known to your ears… You turned to the source, and saw him. He had gravity defying black hair, with a starburst of white at the front, over his forehead he wore a white bandanna, but the most distinguishable feature about him, with out a doubt…were his red eyes, not as intriguing and captivating as Kurama's in your mind, but noticeable none the less. He was sitting on a window sill that hadn't existed before, you assumed he had broken the paper and wood window, but how he had done it without a sound was beyond you. He wore black pants, ripped at the bottom, a shirt that looked like he had ripped the sleeves off, black of course. He wore a dog collar, exactly like Maku, no bracelets though. His right arm was bandaged up, why, you could not say…

"Hiei…making a late entrance as usual…" Maku rolled her eyes, Hiei, presumably the new arrival, gave her a glare, that even though not directed at you, made you shudder. "Yes... and glaring makes me tremble in fear…"

"Why Koenma allowed you here… I have no idea… but I swear… I will kill you Maku! Maybe not now… but I will…" he growled, he was totally made up on that, no maybes no ifs no buts… just the truth…

"Koenma has possibly made the biggest mistake ever…" Kurama sighed,

"Why?"

"Maku and Hiei are sworn enemies, they fight all the time!" Kurama shook his head, "But he knows they won't kill each other, because if they do… they'll see a spirit jail cell all of their own…" Genkai nodded. Suddenly, out of nowhere, came the biggest growl you ever heard… You knew where it came from… your stomach…

"Sorry…. I haven't eaten for a while…" you chuckled nervously, and put a hand to your stomach. Yukina smiled,

"I'll make us some dinner, and Kurama will show you the room you and Maku will be sharing." Yukina nodded and left the room. Kurama smiled to you, and looked to Maku and Hiei, who were trying to strangle each other… he walked over, and picked them both up, 'Man… he's strong… he doesn't look a think like he should be able to do that…' you thought to yourself,

"HEY!!!" they both yelled at Kurama, Maku was trying to beat him off with her wings. Kurama dropped them,

"Maku, if you had listened, you and _____ will be sharing a room." Kurama stated calmly, Maku grumbled, and muttered something that sounded like 'Stupid demons taking Ningen hosts… so stupid…' You decided to let it slide… not wanting to get yourself into a situation you would most certainly regret.

"Fine, baka Kitsune, lead the way!" she growled, Kurama shook his head, and sighed. He walked to the door way, looked to you, and motioned for you to follow. You smiled, and jogged over. Kurama walked down numerous corridors, taking many turns, until finally coming to a sea blue door. Kurama opened the door, to reveal a beautiful room, the walls were deep blue, as well as the ceiling. There were windows right above the head of the bed, looking out over the mountain and the lands below. Your bed was a futon with blue silk sheets, woven with patterns of the sea all over it. Your pillow was the same, over to the left of your bed, there were doors leading into a walking wardrobe, Maku's bed was also a futon, but her sheets were red and black, of fires, with a matching pillow. To the right of her bed, there was a door, which you assumed to be the bathroom.

"Yukina and Keiko bought you clothes while you were unconscious, they're in the wardrobe, that door there leads to the bathroom. Hiei and I have the room across from yours, so if there's any trouble, you know where we are. I'll see you two at dinner…" he smiled, and left you and Maku, you both walked in, and smiled.

"Sorry about what I said earlier, I just didn't want to sound weak in front of Hiei…" she smiled and put out her hand, "As you know, I'm Maku!"

"And I'm ____." You smiled, she nodded.

"Where are you from? Your accent isn't Japanese…" Maku's silvery eyes pierced into your own,

"I'm from _____(insert name of country and/or state, if applicable)"

"Oh! I used to live there, very nice at this time of year, if I remember right…" she smiled, "So… how do you like it here do far?"

"It's great! The people here a very nice, especially Kurama…" you trail off, Maku giggles slightly, "What!?"

"Nothing…just dinner should be ready by now…" Maku smiled to you, and took your hand, pulling you out of the room, to the dinning room.

When you, eventually found your way through the maze of corridors with Maku, you found the dinning room to have a low table, and cushions around it, Genkai and Yukina were sitting at the heads of the table, Hiei was on one side, and Kurama the other. Maku spread out her wings and flew over the table to sit besides Hiei, her face was now devoid of all emotion, cold, and harsh, when only a short while ago she had been smiling and laughing with you. Hiei hardly acknowledged her presence, you saw her face fall for less than a second, and she regains her cold demeanour,

"I don't suppose you've ever had a Japanese dinner before?" Kurama smiled to you,

"Correct, never had one…" you smiled, stopping yourself from losing yourself into his eyes. You saw that on the table there was a bowl in front of you, and chopsticks, luckily your friends back home had forced you to learn how to use them… On the table there were many different dishes, chicken tonkutsu (sp?), sushi, there was a tube of wasabi (sp?), but you knew it was not a good idea to even touch the stuff… there was Yuki Soba, Maku took almost all of the soba, (AN: Just like I love soba! Yum!), there was rice, pickled ginger, yellow pickles… You tried a bit of everything, and decided you like the tonkutsu and sauce, and the ginger, the pickles were nice to. Yukina went into the kitchen, and brought out bowls of green tea ice-cream (AN: it does taste better than it sounds, it's really nice!), you were unsure of it at first, but one taste and you loved it, Hiei was wolfing it down, Maku took her time, savouring the taste. The major difference between the two, Hiei was a hot head, and probably doesn't think before doing, while Maku would think before she did.

"So… did you like your first Japanese meal?" Kurama smiled to you,

"Did I ever!" you laughed, your eyes sparkling,

"I'm glad you liked it…" Kurama smiled, "Tomorrow we'll start your training…" Maku was laughing her head off…

"GAH!!! BRAIN FREEZE!!!!" Hiei yelled holding his head, (AN: Yes… it is possible for a fire demon to get a brain freeze… since you get it if you eat ice-cream too quick, yeah…) you started laughing too, Kurama just smiled, stopping himself from laughing. He was very good at it… "STOP LAUGHING MAKU!!!" Hiei's eyes glowed with fire,

"Make me!" she growled, Hiei took hold of her neck and started to strangle her, she gagged and flew up, Hiei let go, and landed with perfect precision on one of the cushions.

"Baka…" Hiei growled at Maku, who was smirking down at him,

"Come on, ____, let's go back to our room…" you nod and you both go up to your room.

You stepped back in the room, and Maku closed the door behind herself, you fell onto your futon, you looked up to the ceiling and sighed,

"I knew it…" Maku smirked and looked down at you, you looked at her quizzically, "You have a crush on Kurama… there's no doubt about it, it's in your eyes…" she giggled, "I'm going to tell him, he'll be happy to know…"

"Breathe a word of this out of this room, and I'll tell Hiei you have a crush on him…" Maku paled,

"How did you know!?" you smirk at her,

"I have my… instincts…" you laughed, "Do we have a deal, you don't say anything to Kurama, I say nothing to Hiei?" Maku nodded, you shook hands and the deal was made. You yawned, Maku turned the lights off, you took off your shoes, and lay on the futon for a while, taking in everything in that had happened. You got under the soft, silken sheets. Yes… this day hadn't been so bad…
