Nari wanted to more than ever crumple up the letter she was now holding thanks to the response she was given. She had waited for months to get a response and all she got was a letter to elaborate. Her eyes continuing to gaze about the words scribbled on the piece of paper, she allowed the talons of the bird to dig into her right shoulder as he remained perched nearby in case needed again. Nari made her way to the ground beneath her as she sat there about to just sigh in defeat.
“I have to write him again?” She asked quietly aloud. “How much clearer can I be?”
Merely being overwhelmed by doubt of ever being free again, Nari remained where she was outside in pure view in the Makai forest that once belonged to the water demons that had been slaughtered for Yoko Kurama's band. She felt she had failed everyone, but mostly she felt a failure to her son who had seen her being abused long enough. Her fingers rolled through her dirty blond hair as she rested her forearms upon her bent knees outside of the mansion.
Up in Spirit World, the papers flew about Koenma's desk as he was desperately looking for information on the human trafficking down in Makai. He had continued to speak to the demon locked away in their possession but he continued to get nothing but the same responses if not the same demands to leave him alone. But the name he was given those many months ago rang clear in his head still as he was desperate to pinpoint where `Nari' had come from.
Botan opened the double doors that led into Koenma's main room. Her pink kimono flared out behind her slightly as she hurried to the desk that was littered with information papers on everyone down on Earth. “You called for me, Lord Koenma?” The bubbly, Grim Reaper asked as she made it to the front of the desk.
Looking up from the piles of papers that were threatening to collapse all over the place, Koenma could only lower his chin down to the desk top with his hands in his hair. “Ugh, please tell me that someone located information on somebody named Nari who was said to have gone missing somewhere on Earth!” Koenma was about to lose it trying to locate one specific person on Earth that the demon had mentioned was stolen from her home.
Her delicate finger pressing against her pallid cheek, she couldn't help but blink several times, wide-eyed at Koenma's predicament. “Well, Koenma…I am afraid nobody has found a thing. We have found a few in Japan and in Germany but none have gone missing.”
“How many girls could possibly be out there named `Nari'?” Koenma could only wonder with a slight grumble as he pulled another piece of paper off of the stack closest to him that was almost gone. Finding nothing there, Koenma covered his face with his palm before looking back up at Botan through his miserable expression. “Go and get me newspaper articles that were retrieved from Earth so I can look through those.”
“Which year?” Botan asked with a slight baffled look that he was willing to go this far.
Lifting his head off of the desk to support within his palm, he sighed heavily as he grabbed the next sheet on his stack to the left that had profiles and information on those in North and South America. “The ones going back ten years ago,” he answered simply as he put the sheet in his hand on the rising stack to his right. “She couldn't have been too old so let's start there.”
Botan left the room quickly to get what she was asked seeing as everyone else was working as hard as can be on the case dealing with missing humans all over the world. They were eager to end it quickly before it spread any further than it already had.
He gazed back over at the stack that was getting lower with every piece of paper he looked upon. Koenma could only threaten to pass out from exhaustion any minute as he grabbed onto the next profile on the stack on the left to look at who was next with a weary look in his eyes. That weariness, however, eventually was replaced with hope as he noticed the big bold, all capital letters of the first name: NARI. Blinking a couple of times to focus on the profile before him, Koenma read the profile in front of him.
“Kudo M. Nari,” Koenma began as he looked at the picture of the young teen. Her blond hair was cut about her chin and she had ivy green eyes. “Nari, age fourteen, height is five foot four, weight is 118, born 1986….” Pausing for a moment as his eyes gazed over to the fact she was a mix of American and Japanese blood, he quickly fixed his sight back on the year she was born. “What…? If she was born in 1986, her profile should have updated by now; it's 2006. Why is she still fourteen on this piece of paper?” All human profiles were updated every year when a human on Earth aged and the photo was always replaced with it. It made little sense that six years had passed and her profile had not changed. But as he skimmed down to the very bottom of her history, he found out why as another set of bold letters caught his attention: MISSING.
The papers piled up on the desk went soaring as Koenma managed to pull himself out from behind his desk with the one biography in hand. Jumping over his ruling desk, he quickly hurried out of his room and down the long hallway. Those who tried to stop to speak with him, he ignored as he made his way back to the area where Kuronue was being held until killed for not cooperating under his father's orders. The guards at the door saw Koenma heading towards them quickly, but before they could ask, Koenma snapped at them quickly.
“Open the door, now!” He demanded, his eyes gazing at the hard, iron door that was reinforced for everyone's protection.
The ogres at the door quickly responded but not without fumbling with the keys they held thanks to the anger that the leader expressed. The keys being inserted to unlock the cell, they opened the door a bit to allow Koenma on inside before he forced himself on in to see Kuronue sitting there upon the bench with his arms resting upon his thighs again. Koenma said not a word as the demon looked at him though he lifted up the slip of paper he now held holding Nari's history up to the point where she was abducted and sent to Makai.
Kuronue looked at the piece of paper through his visor and dark indigo bangs. He recognized the photo on the paper held in front of him and couldn't help but widen his eyes a bit at being able to see the young girl he had held in custody for so long. Knowing that he was figured out at that moment, his shock turned into a bit of a scoffing look whist he closed his eyes, humming in thought. “Hmm, I don't remember that Nari in some time now. She is much older and much colder in sight.”
Lowering the paper he held, Koenma narrowed his eyes further at Kuronue, “You better start talking, demon. This is the Nari you had serving you, isn't it? Nari Kudo is the girl that you took to Makai.”
“I didn't take her!” Kuronue snapped angrily at the accusations as he threatened to get up from where he was sitting. “Yoko Kurama was the one who kidnapped Nari and brought her to Makai, not me—!” Realizing that he was spilling his guts out, he stopped for a moment and massaged his forehead, the chains attached to his wrists rattling as they moved.
Koenma raised his brow at the bat demon that stopped as he crossed his arms across his chest. “You are going to be executed by my father's forces if you don't start talking,” the leader of Spirit World reminded him. “It is best you talk now.”
The chains rattled once more as Kuronue moved slightly to look back at Koenma before eyeing the barred window that allowed him a glimpse of freedom. At that moment he knew better than anyone how those slaves felt and, for once, he felt a sense of pity. “Fine…I surrender,” he grumbled, almost hating to admit defeat. “But you've got to promise me that I will be set free if I tell you what I know.”
Koenma went quiet as he looked over his shoulder at the door that kept any words from leaving that tiny area. Knowing that the situation down on earth was more important, he came closer to the bat demon so he would know for a fact nothing would be heard between him and the Makai demon. “You tell me what you can and I promise to let you go free back to Makai. But you have to realize something, demon—once I release you, Nari and the others may be found and you won't be able to see her again, because I have to send her back to Human World.”
Kuronue was silent as he looked off to the side a moment to think on his decision. “I don't care,” he finally announced quietly in return. “If I can get Nari and Okuro out of there…that's all that matters at this point.” His fingers tensing up a bit, he finally released the fists he formed as a sigh released through his nostrils. “Nari was brought to us when she was fourteen and she was our sex slave. And when I say `ours', I mean Yoko Kurama, Yomi, and mine. She served us and did everything that we asked of her. If she didn't, we would beat her or Yoko Kurama would punish her with his plant concoctions. She has longer hair, whip marks and scars almost all over her body from disobeying us, and the same eyes just—colder as I said earlier.” Cupping his hands together in between his legs, he sighed yet again as his eyes darted off about his confinement to collect his thoughts. “She had a son that I offered to take care of and it was Sensui, your renegade Spirit Detective that messed up everything,” Kuronue grumbled in disgust. “He destroyed our last home and so Yoko Kurama relocated to the…North of Makai…”
Koenma was silent while wondering if that was all before looking back at the file in front of him. “When the slaves are found, you will be set free back in Makai. I promise you this. You have my word,” Koenma said sincerely as he placed the piece of paper back in front of Kuronue, urging him to take it in his body language.
Kuronue reached up and grabbed onto the piece of paper that was dangling before him knowing at that point forward, that might be the only thing he would ever have of Nari. “I guess your word is all I can count on at this point. Just find her and set her free.”
Koenma nodded as he turned his back to the demon to leave him be. His cape flaring out behind him, he opened the door from the cell to let himself out so he could take the next step in saving the slaves trapped in Makai.
Nari was quick to write a new letter to the `beautiful' Suzuka as quickly as she was able. She wasn't aware what was going on with Yoko Kurama or Yomi, but it mattered little to her at that moment. A part of her feared one or the other walking in on her to punish her for trying to pull off the stunt she was attempting. Managing to scribble upon the clean sheet before her once she tip-toed back into the building, Nari quickly made her way back outside the same way she came with the bird remaining perched upon her shoulder knowing he couldn't leave unless another piece of paper was within his talons.
Her bare feet causing the crunching of the dry leaves beneath her, she rolled up the slip of paper to give to the bird once more. “There you go, buddy,” she whispered breathlessly. She was frightened she would get caught by one of the demons or worse, one of her masters. “Take it to The `Beautiful' Suzuka. Can you do that for me? And hurry, please!”
The beak of the male pearl quickly plucked at the paper to snatch it up to take with him on his journey back towards the outskirts of the demon city. A muffled chirp rumbling within his throat, he quickly took off with a furious flapping of his beautiful wings leaving a few feathers behind to show he was molting.
Cupping her hand over her eyebrows to watch the bird take off until it was out of sight, Nari eventually turned quickly to head back inside. But as her bruised hands had rested upon the doors before her, sharp nails embedded within her shoulder, forcing her to turn around quickly. Inhaling sharply at the demon before her, she backed up against the doors, praying they would at least recede backwards or open under the pressure she was placing upon it.
Yomi's eyes narrowed further at the frightened young woman before him as his arms remained positioned at his sides. “And exactly what are you up to?”
Nari was fearful at that moment that Yomi might had witnessed her giving the letter to the bird she sent off not too long ago but she said not a thing towards it. Swallowing any words that might incriminate her, she shook her head nervously, “I—I am not doing anything.”
The smell of doubt was ever so strong as Yomi furrowed his expression into complete anger at her choice of words. “You're lying to me!” He yelled loudly as his palm met with Nari's cheek harshly, almost tearing off a bit of her skin.
Nari's body hit the ground from the force of the slap. She dared not to move from where she was lying there upon the ground. She feared to as the demon stood there, loaming over her. Her hand coming up close to her face to prevent another harsh slap from her master, she covered her expression with her unkempt hair not wanting the demon to see her scared and shaken look.
Yomi bent down to grab up the girl by the wrist that was exposed to him, almost yanking her arm out of her socket. He was enraged, that much was clear, but he voiced not why to the frightened woman as he hurried her on inside with a few, furious swearing words directed at her under his breath. “Get in there, you stupid whore!” Keeping the human by the upper arm, he forcefully pushed her back inside of the mansion.
Nari fought against Yomi this time, unlike the others. She tried her hardest to get away from him but he kept a firm grip on her arm, which he threatened to break if she didn't settle. “Let go of me!” She demanded boldly, screaming and clawing at the beast that had a hold of her.
“I swear, if you don't stop moving around, I am going to break your neck!” Yomi threatened, yelling his last couple of words as he hurried her towards his bedroom.
Nari tried her best to fight against the horned demon but to no avail as he dragged her, almost by her hair at one point, to his bedroom that was located in one of the many halls on the right. Everything before her was a blur as soon as she stepped through that door again when Yomi's hand greeted with the back of her head, forcing her down towards the floor quickly. The instinct to bring up her palms, Nari did so to avoid smacking her head harshly on the wooden floor. Her tangled, messy hair pooled out before her as she tried to push herself back up but not without further `help' from Yomi.
Yomi grabbed onto her wrists to bring behind her back almost like she was going to be cuffed by the police as his other hand gripped firmly on the back of her neck. He guided her harshly to the bed he had that was a regular looking bed to Nari from what she could see before being forced face first upon it. “You are never, NEVER supposed to be out of this building unless Yoko Kurama and or I have you by that chain that shows you the low class you are!” He growled angrily at her, his fangs apparent as he shifted her over onto her back by grabbing onto her right shoulder to flip her over.
Nari's broken eyes could only look at him with a furious expression—one she was not afraid to show at that moment. “There is nothing you can do at this point that would hurt me any further that I am already…,” she hissed softly.
Yomi's palm quickly slapped down on top of Nari's mouth, watching as she flinched and closed her eyes quickly as if to prepare for whatever was to come her way. His free hand gripping onto his sash, he pulled it quickly from his waist to allow his attire to loosen about his firm body and collapse to the floor bellow. Bending down close to her ear, the bed creaked slightly from the young woman moving in attempts to get away from him only to no avail. “We shall see about that,” he whispered eerily to her.
Blinking her green eyes a few times at the time, she breathed heavily through her nostrils in attempts to release her fear through those exhaling breaths. She remained there, tensed on her back before feeling her folds being harshly parted with the demon's member he was forcing inside of her. Since she didn't want him inside of her it hurt horribly as he was forcing her tensed walls apart with his organ. Her back arching off of the bedcovers she was placed upon, Nari released a muffled scream of pain against his palm though it was filled with mostly anger than anguish.
“This is what you GET for exiting Yoko Kurama's room without his say-so!” The demon's voice was hardly audible thanks to the growling anger filled grunts that converged over the words he spoke. His horrible thrusting picking up pace, her walls that were so dry started to bleed due to no lubrication adding in his manhood cruelly caressing his slave's walls.
All during the horrible sexual assault, Nari could tell it was more of anger release that had been gathered before hand and not from the fact that she had been spied outside of the mansion without a master nearby. Her long, uneven and broken nails dug deeply into his skin about the wrist area as she tried her hardest to make him remove his hand whilst tossing her head about with wild, muffled screams. Get off of me! She begged within her own mind, continuing to leave small bleeding cuts with her nails on the wrist she had a firm grip upon.
But Yomi refused to move from where he was. His nails across her mouth almost piercing her skin with the anger he was building up, he eventually relaxed them once his demonic seed caressed her walls against her will. The horned demon pulled his fingers from her face before moving his spent organ as well, his eyes glaring at her as if to keep her pinned there in that pose upon the bed without having to use his hands.
Nari remained positioned upon the bed, not wanting to move for her body ached horribly thanks to the forced sexual act. Her dusty blond hair covered her face as her hands remained there sprawled out close to her form almost in a surrendering position. She felt if she didn't make any movement or say anything, she would be fine. Nari wasn't sure what got into Yomi, but she was beginning to believe that it had to do with someone in the thieving guild.
The demon said nothing further as he pushed himself from Nari's body that was of little use to him. He merely redressed himself as if too focused on something else at the time to care about inflicting further abuse upon his slave. His knuckles rested against his cheek to indulge in his own thoughts as the rapping upon the other side of the door caught his attention. “Who is it?” He asked irritably as he pulled his hand from his cheek. His eyes narrowed further and his words conveyed more than irritability—it was a building rage.
“I need to speak to you, Yomi, it's me,” Yoko Kurama's voice merely stated from the other side of the door.
Nari looked up slightly from the bed at the door that was located not too far away from where she was resting. Hearing the words muttered angrily under Yomi's breath, Nari could tell there was obviously something going on between the two demons. Her ivy green eyes watched him closely as she moved her form completely upon the bed covers wanting that bed to be her safe spot within the room.
Yomi headed for the door to open it and let himself out instead of letting Yoko Kurama inside. Truthfully, he didn't want the fox demon to confront him in front of their slave. It would only make him feel worse than before. The door closing right behind him, he looked up at the towering demon with a serious expression upon his features. “What is it?” Yomi asked, sounding just as angry as ever.
“I thought I asked you not to go out on missions against my consent,” Yoko Kurama remarked neutrally. “I know you've been out again on dangerous raids without me, losing more of our members.”
Yomi was silent, standing there not defending himself in any form knowing it was true and he felt no remorse for it. He was working to be better and he didn't care who it took to get there.
Yoko Kurama's eyes narrowed further as he examined his team member closely. “What exactly are you planning, Yomi? Something doesn't seem right with you lately.”
The young, battered human woman remained in the bedroom, listening closely to the muffled voices from behind the door. She couldn't hear from where she was sitting upon the bed, so Nari boldly stepped off of the demon's bedding to tiptoe over to the door to be able to listen a bit better. Her hands resting upon the cool polished wooden walls, she pressed her right ear against it to be able to hear the conversation.
“I am not planning anything,” Yomi responded, lying through his teeth. He had his own plans for the thieving guild he joined years ago when Yoko Kurama accepted him. It took him awhile to finally take a step forward in attempts to be something greater for his own purposes. He feared attacking with Kuronue at the fox demon's side but with one less demon to muddy up the works, he started getting braver and becoming bold to go against Yoko Kurama. “I don't know why you would think this when I have been with you loyally for so long.”
Yoko Kurama could tell he was lying as he raised a thin silver brow at Yomi. He wasn't so sure about his loyalty anymore and he was becoming leery. His hand gripping tightly onto Yomi's neck, he pushed the demon harshly against the opposing wall to show he meant business this time due to the other solo missions the fox demon found out about.
Hearing the loud thump against the wall, Nari jumped back fearful that Yomi might break the wall thanks to the impact. Letting the fear subside, she placed her ear hesitantly back to the divider to continue listening in on the argument on the other side.
“You better hope and pray you're not planning something,” Yoko Kurama grumbled. “I've lost enough of my members thanks to you. Don't make me lose faith in you, Yomi or you will regret it.”
Nari flinched slightly as she moved from where she was, eavesdropping on the demon's conversation. Managing to drag herself to the bed once more regardless of her pain, she couldn't help but eye the door in confusion at what was going on. I guess Felix was right…something is going on with them both. Maybe if I am lucky my masters will get rid of one another and then I will be free or lack there of.
The door to Yomi's room opened once more, allowing both demons to come inside. Yomi headed straight for the bed to take Nari's chain into his hands so he could order her angrily off of the bed she was sitting upon. “Come on, you damn bitch!” Yomi managed to get her over to her other master, expressing his anger in nearly slamming down the chain within Yoko Kurama's open palm. “By the way, you might want to be careful with the runt. She snuck out and I caught her outside of the mansion.”
Nari pried herself off of the bed while flinching in pain thanks to the previous sexual encounter. Hunching over slightly, she managed to make her way up to the silver fox demon with her head lowered. Embracing her shaken body in fear of her upcoming punishment, she managed to look up at him through her unevenly cut hair that slightly pooled over her face. She was frightened now of what Yoko Kurama would do to get revenge on her as she stood there trying to show her obedience to him.
Yoko Kurama merely looked down at her with his piercing gold eyes and same intimidating look. His fingers enclosing about the chain within his hand, he shifted his attention upon Yomi with his ears erected to show his feelings on the matter were uncertain. “I will—speak with her about the matter. She is no longer your concern for the day.”
The tug on the chain ordered Nari to move forward. Her feet obeyed. She walked outside of Yomi's room with the demon leader there beside her, acting mellow as ever though his face was consumed in the same seriousness as it always conveyed. She watched from the corner of her eye as he remained there, staring at the door that belonged to Yomi's room before finally tugging upon the metal within his palm.
“Let's go,” Yoko Kurama demanded in his low tone as he walked through the many rooms and hallways to get to his own chambers.
It was showing signs of rain from what could be seen through the many windows and what could be heard from the bellowing thunderclouds that surrounded Makai from within the mansion. It made the sun retreat a lot faster for the day as the darkness of the clouds engulfed the only light that afternoon. It put Nari a bit on edge but she merely flinched with every growing thunder roll and premature lightening strike.
Yoko Kurama's room was soon insight after much walking as she was pushed inside, but not as harshly as the other times they had so brutally done so. The fox demon guided her over to the chair he would sit at on occasion as if thinking and planning his next move. He would remain in that chair for awhile with his knuckles resting upon his cheek with his elbow upon the armrest, remaining silent for so long.
The storm worsened within the hour and was the only sound Nari could hear with the added crackling of the fire the demon kept lit. At that moment, she feared a tornado due to the horrible wind blowing about outside and her son came to mind who was still left within the stall without her. Massaging her hands out of habit thanks to worry and nervousness, Nari tried to ignore the situation though it was difficult as the rain brutally tapped upon the windows as if begging to be let in.
Yoko Kurama watched from where he sat, one ear twisted towards the windows where he could clearly see the rain. “Does the storm bother you as it used to?” He asked almost randomly as his hand rested upon her blond hair.
Nari looked up at her master but only for a moment as she continued massaging away at her hands for awhile. “Not…as badly,” she answered almost inaudibly.
The demon looked back up at the windows that were near his bed as he moistened his lower lip in thought. “So, tell me, has Yomi said or done anything unusual in the past few days?”
Confused by his question, Nari looked up at him a tilt of her head, “`Unusual'…Master Yoko Kurama?”
Sighing at how he had to break things down, he expected no less from a mere human being. Looking at one of his hands, he seemed to admire his long nails for a moment as he picked at the area underneath them. “What I mean is has he been doing things such as going out on his own missions at odd hours of the day? Did he ever tell you what he planned on doing? You would be a good girl and tell me if he was ever threatening to overthrow me now, wouldn't you?” Yoko Kurama took his nails and placed them dangerously close to Nari's neck as if threatening to choke her if she didn't tell him the truth or what he felt she might know.
She could feel the tips of his nails just gracing her abused flesh, making her hold her breath as she slightly tilted backwards. “I—I haven't seen or heard anything about him threatening to overthrow you or anything, Master Yoko Kurama, I swear it!” She said quickly, fear running on her every word.
Yoko Kurama knew fear would be the trigger for her at any point, even if she was immortal. He drew his fingers back away from her neck as he kept his sight fixed upon her. “You better be telling me the truth, you worthless human. If not, I will plan on killing you next.” His narrow, cold eyes shifted to the windows a few feet away when a loud thunder roll caught his attention with a slight raise of his ears. “That storm doesn't seem to be guided by nature to me…” He muttered to himself, his fingers switching back over to Nari's head to pet her like she was a common house pet.

Author's Notes: Sorry, sorry—I withheld this chapter after finishing it a month or so ago because I thought I could finish up the rest of the story and hold them in my possession till I got better or felt like posting. I have been horrible sick lately and have been for five years (depression/eating disorder) but I am working on getting better. I was afraid my fatigue might hinder the progress of the coming chapters but we shall see. I just thought I could finish it before college started again for me in September but I guess I wasn't being reasonable. XP Hope you enjoyed.
