This is No Laughing Matter
Shiori has a secret.

This is gonna be a shortish, two or three chapter fic. It's Shiori centric and very, different, from anything you've probably seen before. Yay for me and my imagination!

Chapter 1

“Is there anything wrong, Kaa-san?”

“Not at all, Shuuichi.”

For his entire life, she'd said so but she was never sure of it herself.

Meet Shiori, the five-hundred year old bat demon sister of Kuronue. Kuronue, yes you heard right, as in the partner of Youko Kurama.

She always looked up to the older demon. Youko Kurama was her elder by at least two-thousand years, maybe even three-thousand years. She wished she could be like him.

After Kuronue died, Shiori died soon after. There was a trick she knew, and taught to Youko, that involved transferring your soul into an unborn human baby. When she told Kuronue of the trick he chucked and said that he'd rather pass on than pull a fast one.

She did though.

About nineteen years ago she heard a rumour about Youko Kurama dieing. She gave up searching for him when she became pregnant and never heard from the demon world again.

Shiori had been momentarily sad about knowing her son would be born human, like her body, and decided that if he ever showed signs of being a demon she'd tell him, otherwise he'd never know.

She always masked her energy, and it had been long since she stopped sensing others' ki.

Sometimes she considered telling her Shuuichi about her past, but she knew he'd completely reject her. Who was she kidding, when she thought otherwise? She might not have killed to the extent of Youko and Kuronue, but she looked up to the two, and killed regularly too. She was just as bad. He'd leave her if he knew.

He'd leave her, and she didn't want that.

She was a demon with a sense of comradeship. She couldn't be abandoned by her own son.

He had been so worried in the hospital.

She knew she'd die that night that it was worst. She was a human sick with a demon sickness. She couldn't live.

Somehow though, she did, and that's what mattered.

She loved her human son and wouldn't leave him for anything. Not even for Youko Kurama's return.

Not even for Youko's revival from the dead, would she leave him to fend for himself; motherless and hopeless. She couldn't tell him she was a demon and she couldn't leave him for the demon world.

At first though, it wasn't like that. As he grew up she put up an act for the human. She didn't care about any humans, and the pregnancy was a drunken mistake. She would leave him when he was about ten, and return to the demon world again in search of Kurama's treasures and live her life in the demon world again.

You see, when she heard the news of Kurama dieing she was in the human world. She hadn't contacted him yet, and was horrified. She ended up getting drunk in a bar in the human world and getting pregnant. She was horrified at first. Even in the first years of his life, she was horrified.

When he was nine there was an accident.

He was trying to get something from the top shelf and fell. Her motherly instincts kicked in and saved his life. It was then she realized he wasn't a nuisance, but a gift. As to replace the empty hole where Youko and Kuronue used to hold in her heart, she had been blessed with her son.

She had finally learned how to really, truly love.

But she couldn't tell him.

Not with her past.

Shiori Minamino smiled at her son reassuringly to back up her previous statement. He smiled back.

“If you're sure, Kaa-san.”

Kittenn: Becha weren't expecting that!

Elmo: I doubt they were. I wasn't… did you see how I paused when I typed!

Kittenn: Elmo-nii-chan! I told you before we wrote it!
Elmo: Oh, yeah… -pauses and looks at ceiling- I forgot!

Kittenn: ELMO-NII-CHAN!

Elmo: Whatever. Bye-bye

Kittenn: -sighs- Ja.
