a fanfic by: Tori SingerStandard disclaimers apply.Yaoi, male male love, lemons, lime, abuse, violence, cussing, supernatural.Hiei/KuramaI'm glad you guys like this story! I'll keep writing, I think I'll be doing one more chapter after this one. I don't know yet. I kind of don't want it to end. Maybe I'm just being strange.....oh well.
It didn't take long for Hiei to reach Koenma's office, for he didn't have to stop and fight any demons along the way. He zoomed through the door, giving the little godling a heart attack.
"AAAAAAAHHH! Hiei, what?" He stuttered, jumping back in his chair. Hiei floated up next to the desk, staring almost joyfully at Koenma.
""No time to explain, get Botan in here now."" He said evenly, crossing his arms over his chest. When Koenma just stared, Hiei growled.
""Now, not tomorrow you diaper wearing brat!"" He said more menacingly, slamming his hands on the desk. Koenma jumped, but reached over and pushed the intercom button.
"Botan! Get in here NOW!" He yelled around the pacifier. Hiei settled back against the edge of the desk. Pretty soon, the blue-haired reaper raced into the room. Looking around, she spotted the glowing Hiei.
"Hiei? What happened to you?" She slowly approached the frowning demon. Scowling, Hiei got off the desk edge.
"C'mon, let's go, I'll explain on the way." He said deeply, leaving no room for arguements. Botan blinked, then followed the demon out the door on her oar.

The imposter looked around the kitchen. He had to get out of here before that meddlesome ghost got back with the grim reaper. Leaning down, he grabbed the redhead by the hair.
"Looks like this is goodbye. Well, slut, it's been fun fucking you, but it's time for the curtain to fall." He crushed his lips against Kurama's, much to the kitsune's obvious pain. The fox was laying on the floor, holding his bleeding stomach. His weakened human body just wouldn't take it. He whimpered against the hard lips, tasting blood in his mouth. When he finally released him, Kurama just fell back to the floor, too tired and weak to do much else.
The imposter smirked before making a beeline to the front door and opening it, just to be clothelined by Botan. The ferry girl rubbed her arm and kicked the groaning imposter in the ribs. She heard the whole story from Hiei, who was floating in the door. Botan never felt so angry in her life.
"You jerk! How could you do that to sweety Kurama? He didn't derserve that!" As much as he loved watching Botan beat him up, Hiei failed to see the star on his body anywhere. Looking around, his vision fell upon a crumpled body in the kitchen. Hiei gasped really loud. Botan ceased her beatings and looked at Hiei. The koorime was in the kitchen in a flash, knealing next to the fallen kitsune. He turned the redhead over and nearly cried out. There was a gaping hole in his stomach, bleeding profusely. Hiei turned to Botan, who rushed in next to him. His voice cracked.
""Please, Botan, call somebody, get help, get Yukina, do SOMETHING!!"" He grew hysterical. He pulled the limp fox to his chest, hearing teargems clattering to the floor. Botan looked somber; she picked up the phone on the counter and dialed 911. She quickly stated her emergency and stayed on the phone. Hiei started chanting love words and reassurances to his fox. He said all he had wanted to say to his fox, holding nothing back.
""Please don't do what I did to you Kurama, don't................die......"" He mumbled the fox's name over and over, staring into space. Botan went over and secured the imposter, making sure he couldn't escape. She made her way over to Hiei.
"Hiei, where's the star? I can place it on your body. Then you would just have to fuse yourself back with your body and be on your way." She explained. Hiei paused in his cradling to check Kurama's pockets. He found it in his left pocket, he pulled it out and handed it to Botan. The ferry girl looked at the limp Kurama before shaking her head. Wiping a tear from her face, she attached the star to 'Hiei's chest. A blue light surrounded the body, before a spirit raised itself out of Hiei's body. The koorime carried his fox into the living room and set him on the couch. He glanced at the ghost and gasped.
""It's........YOU!!"" He screamed. The ghost looked up at Hiei.
"Yeah.......it's me." He mumbled. He found he couldn't move. Hiei's face scrunched up dangerously. This spirit was the guy who he'd killed for Mukuro that day, the one that he was on the mission for. If he wouldn't have killed him, he never would've been possessed and nothing would've happened to Kurama. Feeling angry and guilty, Hiei shook. Finally, he realized something. He smirked at the wide eyed ghost.
""You have no body, you're a spirit like me..................I can touch you................you're gonna pay........."" He whispered dangerously. The ghost's eyes widened, and he took on a look of terror. Before he had a chance to speak, Hiei was all over him. He didn't leave a spot untouched. He punched his face, kicked his ribs, blackened his eyes, he did everything he'd done to Kurama except rape him. Hiei felt that it was degrading to rape someone such as he. Letting the ghost fall to the floor, Hiei sighed.
""Botan.......take him to Hell....."" He instructed. Botan nodded, still sniffing. She glanced at the motionless Kurama, then at Hiei.
"Ok, good luck Hiei." She said softly. She didn't think Kurama was going to make it. Touching the ghost's forehead, she transported herself and the ghost to Koenma's office, where they would take care of the rest. Hiei smiled a little, glad that the imposter had been taken care of. Glancing at Kurama, he made his way over to his body, which was slumped against the couch. Taking a deep breath, he eased himself down and felt himself joining with the physical world once more. He felt like he blacked out for a minute. He woke to the sound of sirens outside. Looking around, he noted a little trail of blood falling from the couch. Alarmed, he jumped up and cradled the kitsune. He almost started sobbing. The fox's face was deathly pale, his lips purplish blue, his body was cold from lack of blood. He didn't seem to be breathing right either. He almost cried in relief when the front door banged open and paramedics came rushing through the door. The whole time, Hiei never let go of the fox's hand........
Hiei sat in the waiting room, silent. His face still had old wet trails from previous tears. There were teargems piled all around him. He just never bothered to clean them up. He was lucky that no one else was in the waiting room.
The silence was broken when the waiting room doors burst open. Hiei looked up to see Yuusuke, Kuwabara, Keiko, Yukina, Shizuru, and Botan. The gang looked at Hiei sympathetically. Hiei snorted and looked away. He jumped when he heard them cheer. Jerking around, he puzzled their laughter. Yuusuke spoke for all of them.
"We're glad you're back, Hiei. I knew something was fishy when you miraculously came back from the dead and all that." Hiei almost smiled. Yuusuke had suspected it, and took care of Kurama the best he could. Yukina started sniffling, before flinging herself at her brother.
"Oh, brother I'm so glad it's you!!" She sobbed against his shoulder. Hiei stiffened. He forgot that Genkai told her the morning he died. He hesitantly wrapped his arms around her, holding her close. Kuwabara rubbed the back of his head.
"Yeah, I'm glad you're back too shrimp." He laughed nervously. Hiei stopped himself from telling them all he missed them too. Then Kuwabara scuffed the floor with his foot.
"So, how's K'rama?" He asked. Silence lingered in the waiting room. Kuwabara feared the worst.
"What.....happened shrimp?" He prodded hesitantly. Hiei averted his eyes.
"I........don't know yet............they're still working on him." He felt another teargem fall to the floor. Everyone stared, as if just now noticing the piles of gems. Yukina curled up in Hiei's lap.
"I'm.......so sorry brother, I hope he gets well.........you two love eachother more than anything. I'm sure it'll be aliright." Everyone wanted to believe her. So they let her words comfort them all. Hiei sniffed and tightened his hold on Yukina.
"I...........hope so too." He whispered, another tear making it's way down his cheek to clink to the floor.
It was another two hours before the doctor finally came in the waiting room. Hiei jumped to his feet. The others stopped what they were doing and cast their full attention to the doctor. The doctor looked grim.
"It's......not good. He's lost so much blood, and the knife hit vital organs, because of his lack of weight. I'm afraid his weakened body won't last much longer. If you would, come this way to talk to him one last time." He said grimly. The others gasped, and the girls started crying. Hiei just stood there, not comprehending what he said. He was in a trance, thoughts racing through his head. Finally, he felt a hand on his shoulder. He raised his eyes to look in the orbs of Kuwabara, his lifetime enemy. A feeling of understanding passed between them. Hiei nodded.
"...........Ok, I'd like to see.......my fox." He said quietly. The others had tears running down their faces. How could this happen to Kurama?
Hiei hesitated outside the door. He turned to the others.
"Can I......." He hesitated. Yuusuke nodded.
"Go on Hiei, we'll wait here." Hiei nodded before turning around. He stopped again and whispered.
"Someone............let Shoiri know...." After that, he entered the room. He marveled at all the machines in the room. Looking at the bed, he sobbed out loud. Kurama was deathly pale, black eyes contrasting against the white of his skin. Bruises were way more evident now. His red hair, once full of life, was tied back in a constricting ponytail. Covering his mouth with a hand, Hiei slowly made his way over. Stopping at the bedside, he grasped the bed rail, staring at his lifelong sweetheart. Feeling a presence, Kurama opened his now dulled emerald eyes. Finding Hiei, he smiled gently. He reached out a hand and clasped it with Hiei's.
"Sweetheart.......you came....." He whispered hoarsely. Hiei could only nod, a lump constricting his throat. Kurama smiled.
"I'm glad you're back to normal, I missed you." He said, his smile never faultering. Anyone could tell by looking that Kurama wouldn't last much longer. Hiei took a labored breath.
"D-did they........t-tell y-you...?" He sobbed out. Kurama frowned.
"No......what is it baby?" He asked, eyebrows creasing. Hiei sobbed again.
"The doctor's say..........you're......................................gonna be just fine and you can go home soon...." He informed softly. Kurama smiled, a tear falling down his cheek.
"...................Liar........." He whispered before crying harder. Hiei sobbed hard, tightening his grip on the kitsune. Kurama always knew when Hiei lied. Kurama leaned toward Hiei, opening his arms. Hiei complied immediantly, burrowing himself against his beloved. Crying together, Kurama pulled away slowly.
"Tell..............mother........I love her......very much." Hiei sobbed but nodded. Kurama's neck and hair was becoming tear stained.
"Tell Yuusuke.....................to have more faith in his mother, she loves him very much." Hiei again slowly nodded, knowing why Kurama was telling him all this. Last requests...........Hiei wrapped his arms around himself. Kurama settled back in the bed.
"Tell Kuwabara.........tell him to keep being such a good friend, that everyone likes Kuwabara......tell Kuwabara that." Kurama was getting a faraway look in his eyes. Hiei knew he was losing him. Kurama smiled.
"Tell Yukina......that Hiei's her brother, her brother loves her, she loves Hiei too..." He was mumbling now.
"Tell Genkai to keep teaching......she's good at teaching stuff." He turned to his lover.
"You.......tell Hiei.........tell Hiei I love him...........tell him I love him a lot............please, you have to tell him." He grabbed Hiei's arm, pleading with him. Hiei sobbed loudly, holding Kurama's hands.
"Hiei loves you...........Hiei loves you more than anything, and.........he'll miss you so much.." Hiei choked on the last part, feeling the grip on his arms loosening. Kurama was staring past Hiei.
"Tell Hiei....................tell.............Hiei.............................. ............tell...................him.......................love.......... ....." He layed back and gently closed his eyes. His arms fell limply from Hiei's grip. The machines started going off, the moniter showing a flat line. Hiei yelled.
"Kurama? Kurama! Please! Wake up! You didn't deserve to die! Not after all the shit you went through!" Doctors came rushing in, the nurse pulling Hiei out of the room. She passed the hysterical koorime into Kuwabara's strong grip. Kuwabara hugged Hiei against him, holding him in the air like a child. Hiei buried his nose in Kuwabara's shirt, feeling like he just died all over again.
Botan sobbed along with the rest of them, then she entered the room. Leaving with Kurama's spirit, she took him away.
Hiei didn't know what to think. He didn't have a train of thought except for Kurama's last words.....tell Hiei....tightened his grip on Kuwabara's shirt, not caring who was holding him at the moment. Yuusuke comforted a sobbing Keiko. Yukina clung tight to Shizuru's waist, crying crystalen teargems on the floor. Hiei pounded on Kuwabara's chest.
"Why? Why did he have to die! He was the least one among us to deserve to die!" He shouted, passerbyers crying softly at the display. Kuwabara patted Hiei's back, remembering soothing Kurama when they thought Hiei had died. Kuwabara felt tears make their way down his face, falling into Hiei's hair.
At the funeral, Hiei stood there at the casket, staring down at his beloved. Hiei noted with disdain that the person in the casket didn't look anything like his fox. Kurama was wearing the outfit Hiei had bought for him, it was a birthday gift from long ago. It was a maroon sweater, with Kurama's favorite dark blue jeans. He was holding a rose in his hands. He had his hair down, per Hiei's request. Everyone respected Hiei's decision. Kurama's mother stood nearby, being comforted by her close friends. Hiei gazed at her. He knew she would take it hard. She had arrived at the hospital 15 minutes after Kurama had already passed. She had collapsed on the hospital floor. Hiei looked around and saw his friends, crying and talking about old times. Hiei looked once more at the beautiful fox in the casket before pulling a ring out of his pocket. He slid the ring on the kitsune's left ring finger.
"I was gonna ask you to marry me, that was the Christmas gift I had come up with. It's a little too late now, isn't it." He said bitterly. Tears fell once more from the fire demon's eyes. He leaned down and gently kissed the fox on the cheek before letting them close the casket with his fox inside forever.
The ride to Kurama's last resting place was long and silent. Riding in the family car, Hiei gazed out the window, staring blankly out at the landscape. No one else said a word, they were silently mourning the beautiful fox.
The hillside was beautiful. It had a view of the mountains in the distant, and it had a good view of sunsets. This was the place where he and Kurama went to sometimes on dates. Wiping his eyes, Hiei watched as they hoisted the casket in the ground. It was a beautiful casket, white with trimmings of roses. The priest pulled a rose from top the casket and handed it to Hiei. He stared at it before shakily accepting it. He slowly brought it to his nose, sniffing the fragrance. He identified it to be one of Kurama's home made ones. Only Kurama's had the beautiful scent this one possesed. Shoiri stepped up to say a few words.
"My son, when you were small, I didn't understand you. You were so distant, as if you didn't care. Then, when you grew up a little, you blossomed into the gift of heaven. Always having a kind word for somebody..." Hiei choked as he remembered his kinder than anyone fox. Shoiri continued.
"You always searched until you had found the good in people, you never believed someone to be cruel. You did so well in school, you were well liked by everyone. And.............everyone loves you............and we'll...............m-miss you as well......" She broke off at the end, unable to say anything more. She brought her tissue up to her face, covering her mouth with her hand. Her friends caught her before she could fall.
Others said a few words about Kurama as well. Hiei barely paid attention to them. When asked, Hiei declined. He couldn't think of anything to say about his fox. He didn't know WHAT to say. After prodding some more, Hiei finally agreed. Facing the crowd, Hiei bowed his head.
"This tragedy........is my fault......" There were some gasps in the audience, and some sounds of disagreement. Hiei smiled.
"Yes.........if I wouldn't have.............listen, all I know is, I love Kurama, and nothing I say is gonna hold a candle to the real kitsune. I cannot do him any justice. Just know that I love him, and I'll miss him for eternity.." He trailed off, averting his gaze from the faces in the crowd. Hiei slowly walked away from the hillside, feeling incredibly empty inside. The others stayed longer, talking and mourning. Hiei went home, to Kurama and his house. He entered through the door, noting that the housecleaner did a good job of cleaning the blood off the couch, floor, and kitchen. Sulking, he quickly made his way upstairs, entering the bedroom. Laying down in bed, Hiei felt more sobs coming.
"Haven't I cried enough today?" He asked himself. He immediantly punched himself for it.
"Kurama cried for over a month for me...........he's so irreplacible......." He mumbled to himself. He layed down, crying himself to sleep.
Notes: Hey all. I want you to know that I cried while writing this! I hope you liked it! There will be one more chapter! Peace out.

Peace out.
