Guilt:

Hiei rolled over for the umpteenth time. He couldn't fall back to sleep. He woke in the middle of the night, screaming his lover's name. So, he'd went downstairs to get something to drink.

'Funny as to how our roles are reversed...' Hiei had stopped in mid step. Looking around, Hiei thought again.

'Is his spirit in this room with me? Like I was..?' He couldn't help but feel paranoid as he had walked to the kitchen.

Back upstairs, we have Hiei's problem of insomnia. He couldn't stop thinking about Kurama. The beautiful fox's death was HIS fault. The more Hiei thought about it, the more pissed off he got. If only he'd gotten there sooner! The wound looked like it had been VERY recent, so if only he'd stayed with his fox, or better yet, he should've taken the fox with him when he went to get Botan. Hugging himself, Hiei drifted off into a tormenting sleep.

Hiei's eyes popped open. Darting his eyes, he quickly took in his surroundings..........he was at home.......alone. Memories of yesterday came rushing back like cold water. Sighing, Hiei clenched his eyes shut, hoping it was a nightmare. But he knew it wasn't...............the fire demon sat up and stretched, yawning. Feeling his joints crack, he settled against the headboard of the bed, staring out the window he liked to sit at. The sunrise looked beautiful that morning. Hiei felt a pang in his chest. He and Kurama would wake up and snuggle together, watching the sunrise out the same window. Shaking, Hiei stumbled out of bed. Thoughts of the imposter filled his head as he walked down the stairs. Glancing at his arm, Hiei noted the spot where Kurama had pinched the imposter's arm. Gasping, Hiei tumbled down the stairs. Reaching the bottom with a thump, Hiei layed there, motionless. His eyes were wide and unfocused. The most horrible thought came across him. His lips moved softly.

"This body....................raped and abused Kurama..............this body........................KILLED Kurama!" Scrunching his childlike face in anger, he sat up on his knees and let out an angry growl. He started yelling at himself, positive he could see the fox's blood on his hands.

"My hands! They're forever stained with my beloved's blood! It was these hands that drove the knife through my fox's stomach!!" He wailed, running into the kitchen. He banged his head on the counter, rammed himself into the refrigerator, he wouldn't stop. Hiei continued to beat himself up, soaking up the knowledge that he in fact, had killed his one and only. Hiei stopped long enough to stare at the window. He slowly grinned. Running, Hiei plunged himself through the kitchen window, hitting the rose bushes below. Clad in only a pair of black boxers, Hiei lay there unconcious, with glass shards sticking in him.

"Yes officer, there were no signs of an intruder. Yes, my friend's been going through some hard times. You see, the one he loves passed away yesterday." Yuusuke finished informing the officer. He had come over to check on Hiei, and found the kitchen in a dissray, and his friend had apparentally projected himself through the kitchen window. Yuusuke walked over to the ambulance that they were loading Hiei in. They wanted to pull out the glass shards and check for any other injuries. Hiei just layed there, staring at nothing. He would occasionally whimper out Kurama's name, as if in prayer. Yuusuke felt a large pang of sadness as he thought of all the couple had gone through. Hiei lost in the end though. That's what really ticked Yuusuke off. They both deserved a 'happily ever after' after going through all that shit.

Yuusuke rode in the ambulance with his unresponsive friend. Hiei had yet to snap out of his depression. Yuusuke feared that Hiei would try and kill himself again. Not that he blamed him, but he shouldn't just end it like that. Sighing, Yuusuke sat back and just relaxed on the way to the hospital.

After informing the others what happened, Yuusuke sat in the waiting room, waiting for the doctor to come out. It wasn't long after before Kuwabara came in, looking worried. He toted a devestated looking Yukina by his side. Yuusuke waved them over and settled back in his chair. The orange haired teen guided Yukina over and sat her down in a chair.

"Hey, Urameshi..."Kuwabara greeted unenthusiastically. Yuusuke mumbled in response. Kuwabara sat back, running a hand through his hair.

"It seems we've been seeing our friends in the hospital a lot recently." Yuusuke just grunted in response. Yukina sniffed and cuddled to Kuwabara's arm. Kuwabara reached over and held her, not knowing really how to comfort her.

It wasn't long before the doctor came out, the same doctor that had treated Kurama. He walked over to Yuusuke and the others. Yukina and Kuwabara stood up. Yuusuke just stared at him. He took off his glasses and wiped a speck of dirt from the lenses.

"Your friend, Hiei, will be fine. His cuts were just minor ones, will heal in time. There were no other injuries, he's lucky though; it could've been a lot worse. I suppose you can take him home in the hour." The three sighed in relief. At least they had SOME good news.

Yukina entered Hiei's room by herself. She noted her brother sitting up in bed. She smiled and wiped her eyes.

"Brother! I was so worried about you!" She squeeled and ran over. Hiei looked startled a moment before accepting her into his embrace. She cuddled up to him on the bed, refusing to let go. Yukina started crying.

"Please Hiei-chan, don't leave me! Don' t die again please!" She pleaded with him. Hiei felt his heart warm up. He held his sister tighter.

"I'm so glad you do not hate me, I thought you would, knowing what a bad person I am." He stated, self hatred evident in his voice. Yukina pulled Hiei closer, whimpering.

"Actually..........I always hoped...........that either my brother would be like you..........or that you WOULD be my brother..." She confessed. Hiei gasped.

"You mean, even though you know about my dark past, you still........care?" He prodded. Yukina giggled.

"Of course silly! You're a special person! I love you brother!" She exclaimed, hugging him harder. Hiei let out a chuckle of his own.

".......Hey, when can I get out of here?" He pondered, obnoxiously. Yukina giggled and playfully swatted him.

"The doctor said 'in the hour' so I'm guessing it's soon. I hope! Oh, and Yuusuke called a repairman to fix the window." She sombered a little at the mention of the broken window. Hiei averted his gaze.

"....................Kurama loved that window, and I destroyed it..." He berated himself. Yukina sighed.

"Hiei-chan, please don't blame yourself. You tried everything you could.........HEY! Think about it, if it wasn't for you, Kurama would still be suffering with that imposter!" She persuaded. Hiei thought a moment, and then lit up.

"That's right..............but still......" He huddled down and crossed his arms over his chest. Yukina swatted his arm playfully.

"Hey, I'm sure he's in a better place now. I'd rather him be there than here getting beat everyday and hurt all the time." She leaned over and kissed his forehead.

"I'll see you later brother, when they say I can take you home!" She giggled before she left. Hiei slowly smiled.

"Hn..........she's right I suppose........but.............I wanted Kurama to be with me......." He trailed off, sighing to himself. He gazed out the window, watching it approach sunset. Getting nostalgic, Hiei got out of bed. He padded over and picked up his bag of clothes. He left the room, not informing anybody.

It was about 30 minutes before he got out of the building though. He was busted on the first floor, 50 feet from the entrance doors.

He was home now, getting dressed. He planned to go somewhere that night. Dressing in his old black cloak, he wrapped his white scarf around his neck. Making sure the house was locked, he turned to leave. He stopped, and chuckled a bit.

"Kurama taught me to lock the door whenever I left. And, he finally broke me of using the windows as entrances and exits" Chuckling again at the memories, he left the house, with a red rose tucked in his sleeve.

It didn't take long to get to the hill, for Hiei ran there, instead of driving a car. He walked up the hill slowly, watching the sunset creep under the mountains. Stopping, he gazed down at the polished rock in front of him.

~Here lies Shuuichi Minaminno~
~AKA Kurama~
~1985-2003~this beautiful rose finally rest in peace~loved fiancee, son, and friend.~all will miss you~

Hiei gazed at the writing a bit more before knealing down in front of it. He slowly took the rose out of his sleeve. He gently set it down, propped up on the tombstone. Hiei felt his eyes misting over. He looked up and watched the sunset. He sat like that for a few minutes.

A twig breaking alerted the fire demon. Whirling around, Hiei gasped.

"..............................................How......?" He could barely get that out. The redhead laughed, the sound resembling bells ringing. Hiei fell to one knee, he gazed at the figure in awe.

"How.......Kurama.......my fox............."
