To Save a Life
Chapter 1

To punish one little girl for the action of her parents is cruel beyond reason. If the girl grows into a strong willed and understand woman than what does that make the parents. In Kurama's opinion, it made one of the most beautiful women he has ever met but this same woman will make the most drastic decisions to save the ones she loves only to give up her own even by accident.
It was just an ordinary mission that Keonma sent them on to simply find and capture the youkai that escaped into Ningenkai. He put Natashi on the mission too because she had the youkai captured once already. But it went from bad to worse, when they finally found the trail of the youkai it led straight to Kurama's and Natashi's apartment but only Natashi's room was trashed. They found out that she had precious memories of her family under her bed that were now scattered all over the floor.
At first they thought she would go on her own search to kill the youkai but when they looked at her she was only staring in shock at her room almost in pain. Natashi slowly walked into her room and picked up a stuffed fox that was cut in half. Kneeling on the ground she held the animal close and began to shake. It took a few moments for them to realize that she was crying. Her life with her parents and her brother were still somewhat unknown to them but if you grew up in the district like Yusuke and Kuwabara did you had it rough.
“I'm going to make him pay…” she finally told them with venom laced in her voice. “This is the one thing I won't forgive!” She suddenly dug through the mess and pulled a crystal pendulum and a map of Tokyo. Placing the ring at the end of the pendulum on her finger she concentrated on the youkai's ki. “You're going to pay for what you did to my room!”
Before she could locate the youkai though, strings suddenly came through the window and wrapped around her. Yanking her out the window Kurama was the first one to recover and go after her so he was the only one to hear want the youkai's demand.
“Give me the ring!” he yelled as he tried to grab her hand that held the ring.
Natashi went on about her unable to and not wanting to that's when they saw the youkai slap her. That's when the fight ensued and they found out there was more to the ring that was stuck on Natashi's finger. The fight went across the town to Tokyo Tower and Natashi couldn't break free of the strings holding her. Natashi was forced to use the ring to break free of the string as everyone else fought the youkai.
The four men were so occupied with killing the youkai that they didn't notice Natashi start to fall after the ring's ki destroyed the corner of the platform of the viewing area they were on until they heard her scream. (A/N: I like making my characters fall off stuff) Kurama and Hiei made it to the new edge of the platform to see Natashi plummet to her death. There was no way for them to save her even with Hiei's speed. Kurama wrapped his whip around a pipe and jumped off after her.
Natashi reached for him but their hands met only for a moment before Kurama was jerked back. He held on as tight as he could but she slipped from his grasp. There was a blinding blue light from Kurama's hand and suddenly found himself in a park. Hiei fell on top of him causing them both to fall unconscious.

“Mister…” Kurama faintly heard a little girl. “…Please stop crying…”
“Sister, leave him alone,” said a young man, “He need to sleep.”
“Ya'll be doing the same thing if ya'll are empa-empatthh.”
“Quiet! …Let him sleep.”

When Kurama finally woke up he saw a little girl with dark red hair almost brown facing away from him playing with something. Not disturbing the girl just yet he looked around the small room. It was pretty plain: two futons, the one her was sleeping in and a smaller for a child, and two dressers aside from a lot of plants it was nothing special.
The girl suddenly turned to him and smiled, “Ya'll awake.”
Kurama watched the girl curiously thinking she looked familiar as she went to the door and when she opened it she called to her brother, “Big brother, Kurama's awake!”
“How do you know my name?” Kurama asked.
“Ya'll friend Hiei told us,” as she looked at him. “He was quite surprised to see me and my brother walking around that area that night.”
Kurama was stunned to see a fifteen year old Aden walk into the room. Looking at his sister Aden told her, “I told you not to come in here while he's sleeping.”
“But I need to work with my plants!”
“Natashi!” he gave her a stern look.
“Yes brother…Hey Kurama, who were ya'll crying for? She must've been special for ya'll to cry for her in ya'll sleep.”
Kurama looked at her and staring into her hazel eyes he realized it was five year old Natashi standing in front of him.
“Natashi,” Aden scolded her again.
Kurama shook his head and answered, “She was a very close to me…I think I maybe loved her…”
“What happened to her?”
Kurama smiled at Natashi's sweet child innocent eyes and said, “She died, I watched her died and I couldn't save her.”
Watching Kurama cry Natashi was overwhelmed by his sorrow and grabbed hold of his chest in a hug. “It's okay Kurama!” she cried, “She up in the same place as grandmother…Grandma's very nice, she'll take care of ya'll friend!”
Aden just stood back as Kurama held his sister for comfort. He set a tray of food down beside Kurama and left the room. He sat on the couch beside Hiei who was staring blankly at the T.V. as it played `Aladdin' for the umpteenth time. (A/N: my little sister use to watch `The Loin King' all the time.) Aden stopped the tape and changed the channel and asked Hiei, “What was the name of your friend that died?”
“…Natashi…” Hiei answered after a moment watching Aden out of the corner of his eye.
“Like my sister,” Aden chuckled, “Natashi is such a strong sounding name. My sister has such a bright future ahead of her.”
`Yes she does,' Hiei thought with a sigh.
“What was your Natashi like?”
“…she was very smart and talented. She could get into any situation and get out of them just as easily. She was not the type to sit around.”
“Sounds like my sister,” Hiei tried not to flinch, “but she still too young to be able to start what others have done.”

Aden took out a futon from the hall closet and sensed Kurama watching him and said, “My sister wants to sleep with you. She's hoping her presence would help you. She's says after the last few days of you sorrow in her sleep was making her cry, so now she wants to try to help.”
“Natashi's an empath?” Kurama asked slightly surprised.
Aden stiffened slightly at the word, “Yes, she's always been sensitive to other people feelings.”
“And you?”
Aden stopped and looked at the older man, as if seeing his answer he said, “I'm physic and have telekinesis. You probably think I'm crazy now.”
Kurama shook his head, “No, I know four people that have physic abilities plus four more at my school.”
Aden smiled, “There's a lot of physics in my family…Listen, I knew how hard it is to lose a friend or someone you love, and don't ask me how I know, but believe me when I say it's hard to get over the pain. The pain goes away after a while but you should never forget them, otherwise their deaths would be for nothing.”
He watched Aden go into the living room where Hiei sat on the couch watching the television set. Just as Aden started to fix his futon they heard Natashi's squeaky voice as she came out of the bathroom, “Merry Christmas to all! Now ya'll gonna diiee!”
Aden cried out before he tackled her and covered her mouth as he scolded her, “I told you not to sing that song when we have guest! …Are you wearing my underwear on your head?”
“But `Weird Al' Yankovic sang it,” she told him innocently once she got her mouth free. “And he's a hit! …And yes.”
“Yes, he is but that's not a song to sing.”
Kurama and Hiei watched them in slight horror of the song that was just heard. Aden looked up at them as if suddenly remembering they were there and said, “Our dad brings back gifts from his travels and `Weird Al' is my sister's favorite artist.”
`That explains all those songs she always hums to herself,' Kurama thought.
“Okay how about this one? Run, run, run, run, run, Forest ruuuun. Stop!” Natashi suddenly piped up.
“Just get ready for bed,” Aden sighed.
