Chapter one: Farewell, dear sister~
~~~
Pain. Hysterical, isn't it?
Blood splashing to the ground, creating decorative patterns on the tile floor.
And the screeches of agony...so sweet...
Dear sister...
I do so love you...
...your blood matches your eyes so well.
I'm glad you finally go the chance to meet the Kokoryuhaa personally.
I've told it so much about you.
It hasn't tasted the flesh of a Koorime since it devoured the island...
That was funny.
Why do you stare at me like that?
You know me too well for the penetrating gaze you give me, sister.
I'm just wondering why you trusted me as you did...
Oh, what's that?
Your husband?
Oh no, I'm sure he's fine wherever he is in the Rekai.
If anyone ever found out that he was dead, that is.
Wards that keep a person's soul trapped in their dead bodies are so useful.
You don't find it funny, do you?
You never did have much of a sense of humor.
Of course, you should understand my actions, imoutochan.
I am not responsible for them.
It was he who drove me mad.
You helped, of course.
You brought this upon yourself.
I don't love you in the way a brother is supposed to.
You are perfectly aware of that, aren't you?
Then...why did you ignore me?
I don't suppose it matters anymore...
But the consequences are still funny.
And death is wonderful.
Even when it's yours, imoutochan.
Yusuke shuddered. "Right...who volunteers to tell him?"
Kurama, Koenma, Hinageshi, and Botan rapidly shook their heads `no'. Yusuke sighed. "Great...you're going to make me do it?!?"
Kurama sweatdropped. "Hai."
Yusuke groaned. "I happen to value my life too, you know!"
Koenma raised an eyebrow. "And yet you've died."
"Twice," Botan interjected.
"You can afford to die again!" Hinageshi said.
Yusuke groaned. Right... telling Hiei that his beloved sister was dead was basically committing suicide, not getting murdered. He sighed. "Fine...fine...I'll tell him!!" Koenma, Kurama, Botan, and Hinageshi nodded. "Right now," they said.
~~~
Yusuke took a deep breath. "Err...Hiei?"
Hello, the soon-to-be-late Urameshi.
Hiei `hn'ed a response. He knew perfectly well what was coming...he would have to try his best not to laugh.
"Err...Hiei...Yukina's dead...she's been murdered, and even Koenma doesn't know who did it."
Of course he doesn't. Baka. Must...not...laugh...
Hiei didn't even look at Yusuke. He hung his head and his shoulders shook with what looked like silent sobs. Yusuke reached out a hand to comfort the Koorime boy before Hiei threw back his head and began laughing hysterically. Yusuke's eyes widened in shock. "Hiei?! Didn't you hear me? YUKINA IS DEAD!"
"I know," Hiei said softly.
"WHAT?!" Yusuke yelled.
Hiei smirked. "Of course I know she's dead, baka ningen. I'm the one who killed her."
Yusuke's jaw dropped. "No...way..." he muttered. Hiei smirked.
He's frightened.
They're always much more fun to kill when they're frightened.
"Of course, it was that bastard Kuwabara's fault," Hiei said.
Yusuke narrowed his eyes. "Hiei, what is wrong with you?!"
Hiei laughed softly. "My dear, dear sister is now dead. But I bet you didn't realize that Kuwabara is as well, did you?"
Yusuke gaped at him. He found his throat was too dry to speak. Hiei laughed softly again.
"And now I find you know too much to be allowed to live." The band covering his Jagan burst into flames, glowing black. Yusuke cried out in pain as he burst into flames as well. The fire wasn't orangish-yellow, or even black, his trademark fire. It was a strange purplish-green color.
Hiei smirked. "You see, this way the death won't be linked to me, because it leaves absolutely no mark on the clothing or internal organs. Oh, and I'm terribly sorry, Urameshi, but this fire also creates wards on your soul. Your body will be dead, but your spirit will be forced to stay there." He knelt beside Yusuke, who was now writhing on the ground in pain.
"You see, I could not afford to let you tell Koenma or Botan that I am insane, could I?" he asked sweetly. Very odd.
"It felt good to kill Kuwabara. Carving body parts off of living ningens is always entertaining. But strangely...it also felt good to kill Yukina." A grim smile crossed his face. "Of course, I still love her. The odd thing is...her cold flesh tasted much better than her warm flesh would have.
"Not that it's a matter of great importance to you at this point, Urameshi-san," he said with a hiss. "The great spiritual detective, leader of the Urameshi Team, boss of the Rekai Tantei, is it? While I was always pushed to the back, behind even that dead idiot. It never crossed your mind that I did in fact have the power to kill you, did it?
"And now it's all over. Rather ironic, isn't it? When we first met, our first fight, you called me cocky for droning on and on like I'm doing now, and then you went on to defeat me. This is a switch, isn't it?"
I love the way he just stares blackly up at me in horror.
The dead are wonderful to talk to; they can't argue.
