Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Trapped between two girls. ❯ I'm alright... ( Chapter 22 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
Kitty ran like crazy down the sidewalks and across the streets past baffled people of which, on occasion, she would bump into and only manage a frantic apology. Though, through the entire frantic run, now scattered breathing, and aching, sore legs, she finally made it to Yusuke's building and was sprinting up the stairs.
`He better be all right…I don't think I could forgive myself if he got injured. I should have stayed there…but then again, he may have gotten mad at me for disobeying him…' She sighed a long, heavy mental sigh as she skidded to a stop in front of Yusuke's door and immediately started to pound on the wood.
“Hold on!” Kitty continued to hammer her fist against on the door ignoring Yusuke's footsteps that she could hear were coming closer. Within seconds the door swung open and Kitty stopped her fist right after it managed to smack Yusuke directly in the nose.
“Oh! Yusuke! I'm so sorry!” She said and walked past him looking around the house with Yusuke right after her.
“What do you want? Where's Kurama?” He asked through a bit of muffled talk from his hand that was holding into his nose and trying to nurse it from the pain that was just inflicted on it. Kitty walked into the living room only to see that the TV was on. She tensed as she heard Yusuke ask her the question but stayed silent as she walked around looking for Heather's room.
“Hey, the least you can do is answer me for hitting me in the face.” He said and stopped at a door the Kitty had walked past and he opened it. The frantic girl turned around at the sight of a pillow being thrown at Yusuke.
“Don't do that!”
`There she is!' Kitty thought and peered over the door. “Heather?” She asked and saw her friend sprawled out on her bed with a book in front of her and Hiei was sitting at the windowsill, both people were looking at her.
“Hey Kitty!” Heather smiled but almost instantly her smile faded when she noticed the tired look in Kitty's eyes and the frantic facial expression that was spread on her face. “What's wrong?” Heather moved and stood up as Hiei looked at Kitty from his seat and Yusuke was now starting to look interested.
“It's Kurama…” She said and started to walk for the door at a fast pace. Right away Heather followed with Hiei directly at her heels.
“Onna what did you do to him?” He asked with a bit of anger in his voice as Kitty stopped at the front door that was closed now.
“I didn't do anything! There was this demon and the house and then he told me to get out and then I did and-” But she was cut off as a hand clamped over her mouth to stop her hysterical talking; it was Heather's.
“Alright…lets take this a step at a time…” She said in a calm manner. Kitty nodded her head, as her mouth was uncovered.
“Hn, the smarter idea would be to find the Kitsune.” Hiei interrupted and Yusuke nodded his head in agreement.
“Okay then…where did you leave him?” Heather asked.
“At his house so then we should probably go there,” Kitty opened the door as she spoke, “And see if he is…” Though, when they all turned to walk out of the door every body that was in motion stopped at the sight before them. There was Kurama, non-injured at all, panting from, obviously, running all the way to Yusuke's just after the battle, and holding a rose in his hand in the most delicate manner, though there was some blood on his fingers.
“I'm alright…” He said in his normally calm tone, but it sounded as though his voice was the slightest bit deeper then normal. Before anyone could say a word after him, Kitty leapt at him, wrapping her arms tightly around his neck and gave him the biggest hug.
“Your alright!” She shouted, clearly showing that she was happy to see him there and unharmed. Kurama returned the hug with a small smile on his face.
After Kurama and Kitty separated from one another, they all went and sat in the living room. Kitty sat in-between Yusuke and Kurama on the couch and Heather sat in front of Hiei by the windowsill.
“So, Kurama, are you sure that you are alright?” Yusuke asked looking at his fellow companion.
“Yes, I am quite sure that I am, Yusuke.” Kurama flashed a small reassuring smile before Kitty asked what had happened.
“Well, while I was finishing up my school work, I was coming to see how you were. Though, on the way I had heard a breaking of glass and went to investigate only to find the demon that you had seen. Then, as you know Kitty, you had come and heard the demon asking for some one.”
“Hn.”
“Who was it?” Heather asked looking at Kurama.
“The person that the demon was looking for was Kitty…” He stated and then continued to tell the story as to the point when Kitty had left which he took that chance to pause and allow every one to take in what they had just heard. “By then I had fought the demon off, and killed it. But, just as I was about to dispose of the body it just…disappeared.” While he finished his sentence it sounded as though he had to search for what to say, like he was looking for the correct words or the right event that had happened.
“Oh…But your alright, right?” Kitty asked and every one nearly fell over.
“For the third time, he said he was alright!” Yusuke Nearly shouted and Kitty merely nodded her head not wanting to invoke the wrath of an already agitated teenage boy for the second time today.
“Alright, Yusuke calm down, Kitty just remember that he is alright, and no one yell.” Heather stated with a high-pitched yawn to close up her sentence.
Yusuke mumbled in response. There was a long silence that followed that as every one looked at the ground sorting out the story that they had just previously heard. Then Kurama decided to break it.
“Kitty, we should be heading back home, there's school tomorrow…” He stood up and held his hand out which Kitty graciously took.
`Do you really think it is wise to go back when it seems that demons are after the onna and, obviously, now know where she is staying?' Hiei asked Kurama through telepathy. He received no answer at all as every one escorted the two of them to the door and bid them farewell.
“Stay safe!” Heather shouted to Kitty as she watched her friend leave with the red headed spirit detective.
Hiei had a skeptical look on his face as Yusuke shut the door. Yusuke went back into the living room while Heather went into her room followed by Hiei. When she shut the door she turned and faced the fire demon.
“Did you get a weird feeling from Kurama or was it just me?”
“Hn.” Was all he said when he took his seat back by the window.
Heather sighed, “Guess it was just me…” With that she flopped back down on her bed, turned Green Day's Warning CD and resumed with her homework.
Hiei stared out the window with a look of thought on his face. `I have a feeling the onna is right for once…there's something wrong with the kitsune…' And a nagging voice in the back of his head was agreeing with him.
Kitty and Kurama were strolling down the calm streets; they rarely saw a person walking down the sidewalk as the night sky was spread out over them with the stars blinking down at them. The moon was half full as it lingered above them and hung to the side though it's light proved to be of little importance because of the street lamps that lined the streets. Buildings had some lights on though some of them were beginning to close up for the night. Kitty walked close to Kurama for the warmth and he draped his arm over her shoulder.
`He has never done that before…' She watched him through the corner of her eye but stayed to close to him. Though when she scanned his face she thought that she had seen the same eyes of the demon that was in Kurama's house earlier that night.
`It can't be…its Kurama I just know that it is…' Kitty tried to reassure herself though her own thoughts just kept on telling her that something was just so out of place that there had to be something wrong. Finally after they had reached a more secluded area she opened her mouth and spoke.
“So Kurama, wasn't that movie after school interesting?” Kitty kept a calm, almost emotionless voice as she spoke. `If he answers this wrong…' But she stopped as she watched him open his mouth.
“Yes, it was. In fact, I enjoyed it.” He smiled at her and almost instantly she tensed.
`I knew there was something wrong…' Kitty tore herself away from the Kurama that was beside her and backed up away from it.
“Y-you're not Kurama…” She stuttered as he started to advance towards her, one step in advance for every step that she backed away.
“Why, whatever do you mean?” It asked and the voice, well it had changed. It sounded and matched the voice of the demon that had invaded Kurama's house.
Kitty stopped moving back and quickly, she drew her spirit blades. They rested on her wrists and she held them up in a defensive position. “Stay back…” She said in a firm, yet slightly scared voice. Though the terror in her voice was barely noticeable. This only placed a small smirk on the imposters face as the girl watched the eyes slowly change from the emerald green that she had become so fond of to the sickly yellow eyes that she had seen before. A low warning hiss escaped her throat as she watched the demon slowly transform into its true form.
“Seems you aren't as stupid as I mistaken you for…not even the others noticed that I wasn't the one that you call Kurama.” The demon held up his claws which had some blood on them, the same blood as when he had taken the form of Kurama. Kitty glared heavily at the demon before she raced at him as fast as she could despite how much they hurt from the run before. Her prey and foe looked rather surprised at her actions and had little time to react as she chopped off his hand with a clean, swift motion.
A yowl of pain escaped his throat and echoed through the night air like a wolf's howl. Kitty landed in front and took no time in the matter to reach up and slice the demons head clean off his shoulders.
“That was for Kurama…” She mumbled and watched the demons head hit the cold, asphalt ground. Though as the body fell both the head and the body turned into a piece of paper in the shape of a paper doll, now in one piece. It got caught in a light wind and started to float away but Kitty quickly snatched it and crumpled it up in her hand before she started to race to Kurama's house.
“He better be alright…of I will resurrect that jack ass from this paper and kill him again until I am completely happy with his pain…” She mumbled to herself. She ran for another five minuets before she reached the front door, which was wide open, and ran inside to the kitchen where she had last seen Kurama, and low and behold, there he was. His motionless body was sprawled out in front of the wall across from her; blood seeped from a wound that was carved into his chest. His face looked rather peaceful with a bit of blood smeared upon his left cheek from a small scrape.
“Kurama!” She shouted and rushed over to his side.
