Hiei is in a tree. He is waiting for his lover to get out of school.
They haven't told anyone about their new relationship yet. It was something that made him happy. He had a feeling that the Fool and the Detective would tease him to no end if they knew about their relationship. They wouldn't tease Kurama, but he knew they would tease him mercilessly.
Then he hears the bell ring. Girls wait to catch a glance at his lover.
Hiei sees Kurama glance up at the tree he is in. His lover smiles briefly before looking away and walking away. Hiei grins and follows in the trees. The shadow of Hiei's form in the trees falls on the pavement beside Kurama.
Walk away…
If you want to
It's okay…
If you need to
Well you can run, but you can never hide…
From the shadow that's creeping up beside you
Kurama smiles when he feels Hiei's gaze on him every second of the time it takes for him to walk home. He can feel his love even when he can't see the demon hiding in the trees. Kurama wishes Hiei was beside him, but is happy enough just to know he is there.
There's a magic running through your soul…
But you can't have it all
Hiei follows Kurama around corners and down streets. He even stops and waits in a tree while Kurama goes into a store briefly. Hiei makes sure that he can always see or at least sense his lover at all times. He keeps his youki noticeable enough so only Kurama can sense him, letting his fox know he is always protected and loved. Letting Kurama know that, no matter what, he would always be there for him.
Whatever you do…
I'll be two steps behind you
Wherever you go…
And I'll be there to remind you…
That it only takes a minute of your precious time…
To turn around
I'll be two steps behind
Yeah…yeah…
After sharing an all-to-brief night of passion and long talks, morning comes.
After a sweet kiss goodbye, a tall redhead heads out of the front door of his home to school. A pair of crimson eyes follows each and every one of his movements. A shadow always follows the fox.
Hiei can't help but wonder why his fox stays in the Ningenkai. What is it about this world that keeps his fox's interests? He sees him stop and smell someone's flowers.
Kurama can feel Hiei's gaze on his back as he releases the fragrant flower and stands up. He wishes that instead of watching him so intently, Hiei would take a second to look around at the beauty surrounding him. Maybe then, the demon wouldn't be so adamant in his hatred of the Ningenkai.
Kurama knows that if he would just give it a chance, Hiei would love the Ningenkai. Once he saw the subtle goodness deep within humankind, he would accept it, just as Kurama had so long ago.
Take the time…
To think about it
Just walk the line …
You know you just can't fight it
Take a look around
You'll see what you can't find…
Later that day, Hiei and Kurama are walking through the park together. Hiei catches Kurama's hand and places a black rose he seemed to get out of nowhere in it. Kurama smiles gratefully, smelling the beautiful flower. Then he turns and kisses his fire demon, feeling the desire between them grow. He thinks about how nice it would be to make love to his demon outside in the soft grass, under the warm light of the sun.
But then some people come towards them. Hiei pulls away and takes to the trees. Not wanting to be bothered by them. Kurama sighs and sits on a bench, waiting until the group of people passed so he could finish his walk with his lover.
He wished that Hiei wasn't so easily distracted by ningens, but Kurama was happy that his demon agreed to stay here with him for the time being.
Like the fire that's burning up inside me
Now there's a magic running though your soul…
But you can't have it all
(No…)
The two lovers finished their walk through the park, and Hiei took once more to the trees on their passage through the busier streets. But Hiei always made sure he was close enough so his fox could see him if he turned around.
Whatever you do…
I'll be two steps behind you
Wherever you go…
And I'll be there to remind you…
That it only takes a minute of your precious time…
To turn around
I'll be two steps behind
Yeah… yeah…
Oh…
Every morning and every evening Kurama was followed by a certain fire demon. Wherever he went, so did his lover. If Hiei couldn't walk right to next to him because of the presence of ningens, he was always close by.
Hiei settled down in a tree outside of his lover's school, picking a branch just outside Kurama's classroom's windows. He peeked inside to see his lover sitting down in his desk.
He wished Kurama wasn't so attached to these ningen things, but he was happy that such beautiful creature loved him. He could put up with these things for Kurama.
And no matter what ningen thing he was attending, or wherever he went, Hiei would always be there. Whether it be from the trees or walking right beside his lover, Hiei would always keep his fox safe.
He would always be watching out for his love.
Oh…
There's a magic running through your soul
But you…you can't have it all
Whatever you do…
I'll be two steps behind you
Wherever you go…
And I'll be there to remind you…
That it only takes a minute of your precious time…
To turn around
I'll be two steps behind…
Yeah baby…
Two steps behind…
Oh sugar…
Two steps behind…
