Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Wake Me Up ❯ Bring Me to Life ( Chapter 1 )
Wake Me Up
Disclaimer: Yu Yu Hakusho does not belong to me and I make no money from this work of fanfiction at all. As all I've seen is the NA dub of this episode, episode five, I'll be referring to it, no matter how badly its mangled- sorry purists.
How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you into my core- where I've become so numb
Without a soul- my spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there and bring it back home
Wake me up inside
Yuusuke Urameshi had a problem. He had died… well, actually that had only been the start of his problems. It was getting back to life that was his problem.
Someone had to donate life energy to him, breath life back into his form, through the lips. He had twenty-four hours to do this in, and only three candidates to choose from.
This wouldn't have been a big problem had those three been able to understand the dreams he'd sent them.
Keiko thought the dream didn't mean anything, especially since the pretty gold glow thing had started at his FEET (why hadn't the All Mighty Diaper Man said something about that earlier?), his mother was drunk on her ass, again, and Kuwabara was, well, a GUY.
Since sending that dream, he'd been unable to find the psychic moron. He'd gotten up and run off… The one guy whom he KNEW could sense him. Dammit.
Wake me up inside
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run, before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become
The 'tickle feeling'; that's what he'd dubbed his 'talent' when he'd been little. Talent, shit, it was a damned curse. While it could be cool- he could sometimes predict things, see things others couldn't, find lost car keys- the voices were bad. They shouted, wanting to be heard. They never let him sleep. They told him things…
Stupid Urameshi. It wasn't the first time he'd dreamt of kissing the punk, but this was the first time he'd felt the urge to actually try it. He was the Mighty Kuwabara! He couldn't feel things like that for a guy, even one as beautiful as Urameshi.
The old gaijin story that he remembered as a child, Snow White, came to mind when he thought of the beautiful Urameshi lying like the dead in his mother's new apartment. He'd been really dead a few weeks ago, he remembered. Kuwabara had run in there, accusing him of chickening out on him… but he wasn't so stupid as to believe otherwise. Damn him- why'd he have to die a hero? Why'd he have to leave at all?
Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me
And make me real
Bring me to life
Yuusuke had finally found Kuwabara, playing a driving game at an arcade. The punk had crashed as soon as Yuusuke and Botan had shown up.
"Great, he's our only option?" Yuusuke turned to Botan, who nodded. Neither of them had noticed that Kuwabara had paused his game playing, back tensed and head tilted like he was trying to listen to something.
"Keiko is with her mother and isn't likely to leave. He's the only person left," Botan said in her usually chirpy tones.
"Yeah, I'm glad this isn't like one of those stupid gaijin fairy tales," Urameshi muttered, and sighed.
"LISTEN to me Kuwabara! I know this is going to sound strange, but I need you to kiss me so I can get back into my body!" he screamed at the other boy, who had gone back to playing his game.
Kuwabara winced suddenly and looked around, like he was trying to find who had yelled at him. Then he shook his head.
"I came here cause it was so noisy… can't get them to shut up even here…"
Yuusuke blinked as Kuwabara got up and lumbered off, shivering every so often, muttering under his breath and looking around like he expected someone to attack him at any moment.
"What was that about?"
"Well, he's got a high spiritual awareness… maybe we aren't the first spirits to talk to him?" answered Botan, and Yuusuke grimaced.
"Then why wasn't he paying attention to us?"
"Well, if you had people shouting at you all the time, how would you act?"
Frozen inside without your touch, without your love, darling
Only you are the life among the dead
"Dammit, there is NO WAY that Urameshi would let me kiss him," Kuwabara mumbled, running a hand through his gelled hair, turning it into some kind of modern art. "I couldn't have heard it. No, no way. The dream said midnight… What if he was right and he doesn't wake up again?" he asked himself, a profound chill running down his spine. He'd never get to fight with the bishonen again. He'd never get to-
He cut the thought off there, before it got to the part he would never acknowledge. So, maybe he could go to Urameshi's and kiss him to get their fight going again… That would be okay. He'd still be the Mighty Kuwabara Kazuma, and he'd eventually defeat the unbeatable Urameshi. That was all they'd be. Ever.
Kuwabara stoically ignored the little voice that screamed and died at the thought.
All of this time, I can't believe I couldn't see
Kept in the dark, but you were there in front of me
"She's not going to make it," Yuusuke moaned, watching Keiko try to run to his apartment. "Dammit, I'm going to be stuck here for the next fifty two years!"
"Don't be so sure," said a childish voice, and Yuusuke blinked at surprise to see Koenma himself there. He was staring at a pocket watch, and began counting down the time.
There was no way Keiko was going to make it.
I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Without a thought without a voice without a soul
Don't let me die here
There must be something more
Bring me to life
Yuusuke didn't know what had happened, one moment he was talking to Koenma, the next he could feel himself becoming heavy, leaden after so many weeks of being a ghost. A gentle kiss pulled his senses from getting used to being in his body again, warmth, sensation… The touch was awkward, like the giver wasn't used to it, and then it was gone as suddenly as it had been there. Urameshi didn't want it to go away- he'd wanted to cling to the first person he'd touched in so long.
Wake me up inside
I can't wake up inside
Save me
Call my name and save me from the Dark
Save me from the nothing I've become
Bring me to life
I've been living a lie- there's nothing inside
Bring me to life
Kuwabara had gotten there a good twenty minutes before midnight, and just stared at the glowing form under the covers of the futon.
What the hell was he doing there?
Kazuma didn't want to lie to himself, but sometimes the truth was just too big or too painful. He knew why he kept fighting Urameshi; he knew why he was there… Yet is scared him. No one wanted to, well… Finally, he made himself think it. Like guys. He liked Urameshi.
There, it was out, the lie dispelled.
Sighing loudly, he opened up the window above Yuusuke's bed, clearing an escape route should he get caught. Looking down at the smaller boy, he noticed how… innocent, gentle and peaceful he looked right there. No pains or fears. He looked…
Kneeling down, bracing himself against the futon, Kuwabara carefully pressed his lips against the comatose boy's, willing him to awaken, willing life to come back to that dreadfully still body.
A soft gasp of surprise was his first clue that it had worked, and a sudden rattling on the apartment door sent him standing up and jumping for the window. A cry of "Yuusuke!" from Urameshi's girlfriend told him that he hadn't needed to come after all.
All he'd done was risk everything…
To be continued!
A/N: Well, this is fluffy. Pure fluffiness. Cotton candy fluff, so far at least. Part of what is going on in Kuwabara's head about "No one wants to like guys" is a bit of personal experience- as a bisexual woman who went through a LOT of denial so it if sounds more like me, then sorry. Anything OOC or just plain bad, tell me, please?
