Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Worthless Onna ❯ Ensnared in Illusions ( Chapter 14 )
[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
“I’ll kick your ass later then,” you said and ran off. Hiei passed you in an instant, giving a “Hn” mockingly before dashing ahead. You clenched your teeth and picked up speed, soon finding yourself in front of Koenma’s doors. After a brief silence Koenma cleared his throat.
“A B-class demon has managed to escape to the living world.”
“Eh? How’d he make it threw the barrier?” Kuwabara interupted.
“I would normally ask the same thing, but he’s known for breaking barriers. He only managed to find a loophole in the Kaki Barrier, but as we speak he’s probably plotting ways to tear it down, too! So get going!”
“Woah now Koenma, chill out. Just who is this guy?”
“[Sigh] He’s both a fire and psychic demon, possessing some elemental traits. I do know he has a weakness for light, so during the day he hides within an abandoned building. I’ll send you directly there with a portal.”
“How about a name?”
“...Rokuro.” He sighed. “I’ll have the portal ready in an hour, so go prepare.”
**
Everyone piled out of the room and went their separate ways. You returned to your own room, taking a quick shower and changing into something more comfortable. Afterward you sat on your bed, stretching, and then took a moment to sharpen your daggers with an ice blade. You sheathed them and used what time you had left to make a quick meal of ramen. As you slurped down the last noodle you heard Yusuke hollering it was time. Upon arriving, your eyes widened slightly noticing the portal was similar to the one from your vision of your parents.
/Yes, onna, that is a portal./
You glared at Hiei before lunging yourself into the vortex. You reappeared in a small brush of trees just outside of town. Moments later the others joined you, Yusuke pulling you back before you took your first step out in the open.
“What the hell was that for?”
[AHEM]
You blinked and looked up. Your kitsune ears twitched and your tail gave a swish.
You laughed sheepishly, tucking away your tail, brushing hair over your ears, and you placed your hood over your head. /Been a while./
/Get used to it, or would you rather be pulled around on a leash?/ Hiei smirked and you glared as you pressed on towards the mansion.
“So. How are we supposed to find this guy?”
“You would already know if you actually paid attention to what the toddler was saying.”
“I HEARD THAT HIEI!” Koenma’s voice rang suddenly, surprising pedestrians.
“Oh, here it is,” Kurama motioned to the building ahead. Unsurprisingly, the inside was dark and gloomy. You hadn’t walked far before your ears picked up underneath your hood.
“I got his scent.”
“As do I,” Kurama and Hiei agreed.
“So sick’em!” Kuwabara and Yusukue mocked. All three of you (yes, even Kurama) glared at them and began running in the direction of the scent. You soon came to four passageways with which to choose between.
“Looks like we have to split up at this point.”
“Indeed,” Kurama said sighing.
“Don’t worry Amaya, I’ll go with you!” Kuwabara said putting his arm around you. You replied by sending an ice blast up his arm, across his shoulder blade.
“I believe I just gave you the ‘cold shoulder’. Am I crystal-clear now?” you asked bitterly.
He nodded, whining.
“Kuwabara will need a bodyguard more than me, so I’m going alone.” With that, you walked down the third path.
“Oi! What makes you think that’s the right path?” they called from behind.
“Just call it intuition...”
As you faded from view, the others made their decisions on a path.
Hiei narrowed his eyes at the second. “I feel a powerful psychic pull coming from that passage, so that one is mine,” he said eagerly, walking while holding the hilt of his katana.
After, Kurama didn’t hesitate on entering the fourth path.
“OIII! Don’t leave me with him!” Yusuke sulked, but regardless they entered the first passage.
Back to You:
It felt like you’d been walking for hours until suddenly a glimpse of light flickered ahead.
/Finally./ You ran towards it, being surrounded in volcanic scenery with a molten rock arena upon arriving. /Someone has free time.../ you thought looking around.
“Indeed I do. Marvelous, isn’t it?”

Kuwabara and Yusuke’s POV:
After just walking down case after case of stairways, both were out of breath and anxious. As they continued, Kuwabara tripped on a hidden lever, unleashing hoards of demons.
“Alright! Time to have some fun, Kuwabara!” Yusuke yelled grinning.
“Yeah!” Kuwabara chimed in, calling forth his spirit sword as both lunged. Yusuke killed nearly half using his Shotgun attack while Kuwabara used his “Sword Get Longer!” ability to poke threw the stomachs of the remaining rows of the army. Both laughed obnoxiously at their victory and finally continued on.
**
Kurama’s POV:
I was now starting to regret taking the fourth passage. For each step I took, I fell into a portal that lead me into a different section of the building... encountering endless battles. Falling into yet another portal, I reappeared in a section with a forest-like scenery. I was enjoying the sight when suddenly a girl’s laugh rang in my ears. Sure enough, I looked up and saw a girl with pink-red hair in high pigtails approaching. She had big purple eyes and a smile from ear-to-ear.
She bowed energetically. “Hajimemashite! I’m Yuka! How about we have some fun before Daddy gets here?”
My eyes twitched suspiciously at how bubbly she was. “Daddy? Rokuro is your father?”
“Of course, silly! Only difference between Daddy and me is that I’m a water demon like my Mommy.”
“Water demon? Then why would you stay here? Water is weak against plants.”
“I know...”
“Then why?”
“Because of the flowers, silly! Aren’t they pretty?”
[ANIME FALL]
I scoffed. “Either way, why don’t we start the match?”
“Yatta! This is going to be fun!”
I sighed inwardly, retrieving a rose from my hair and lashing it into a whip. I felt guilty for battling a child, but even going easy on her I noticed she was able to block with incredible skill.
“Wa! I thought you were better than that! How disappointing!” Yuka whined, sending a splash of water at me.
I easily propelled it with my whip. “You’ll have to be more clever than that. I can block all your water-based attacks with ease.” I was so busy concentrating I failed to notice that she’d disappeared. I turned, only to come faced with a direct punch and another splash of water from the child.
“Okay now I’ll finish you! He he! Daddy will be so proud!” She stuck out her palm, letting tears fall from her eyes and form into water gems. She placed her hand in front of her, blowing the gems in my direction yelling, “TEAR BUBBLES!” Unsurprisingly, the gems transformed into giant bubbles and managed to capture me inside. She walked beside me mockingly and tapped on the bubble. “Cool, ne? This is my tear bubble and it’s indestructible! My bubble will only break once it is completely filled with water, which takes a while. No use in that whip of yours... Too bad, though. It might have worked from the outside! Looks like the poor little kitsune’s gonna drown!” I couldn’t stand that arrogance, even in a child. The water was slowly reaching my neck when I smirked.
“I don’t think so. I’m sure my plant will make quick work of this bubble of yours and then I’ll come after you.”
She stepped back, looking around anxiously until her eyes caught sight of a peculiar thornbush. At that moment vines rose from it, scratching Yuka as they passed, and popped the bubble in an instant.
She took another step backwards. “No... Daddy will be angry...[Sniff]”
“You should choose your opponents, and your battlefield, more wisely,” I said apathetically. With one swift motion I managed to ensnare her into my whip, holding her only tightly enough to leave her unconscious. Hopefully.
When she dropped to the ground I walked over, smiling at the sound of a faint heartbeat.
With that, I limped my way out to the next portal.
**
Hiei’s POV:
Still, endless darkness. I continued thinking briefly /I’m becoming annoyed.../ with my teeth clenched. Suddenly up ahead a loud snarl caused the hallway to shake, echoing in my ears. I tightened the grip I had on my katana, making a dash forward. The sound got clearer and clearer until I emerged into a large area of crumbled stone and fallen walls. On cue, an enormous black dragon with silver-lined wings faced me.
/How ironic./
I smirked, unsheathing my katana and racing to him with remarkable speed. He managed to dodge all of my fire blasts with ease, and merely damaging him took a great deal of effort. Its endless psychic waves were beginning to tire me, becoming too predictable but annoying to dodge.
“A dragon for a dragon...consider this an honorable death.” I clutched the bandage on my right arm, throwing it aside in one motion as my Jagan Eye burned away my bandana. The circling dragon ‘tattoo’ emerged as I called out, “DRAGON OF THE DARKNESS FLAME!” The original dragon was formidable to be sure, but it wasn’t long before scars of battle wore the first down into submission. The Darkness Flame was victorious once again.
I was reunited with a seething pain in my right arm and grit my teeth. “Useless. Amaya better have the energy to win.” I sighed, retrieving and sheathing my katana as I headed for the final door.
**
Finally, Back to You:
“Coward! Show yourself!”
You heard a maniacal laugh as the shadowy man known as Rokuro stepped forward.
He was fairly tall and well built, with ash-black hair that was short and wavy with two long strands hanging over his shoulders. He wore armor and held a scythe in his hands.
“My, my... I did not expect to have another guest accompanying me tonight. I see Koenma has added another worthless detective to the other four fools. However, I must congratulate you, my dear. You are the only one to choose the correct path in quite some time. Bravo! I assume you know who I am, so who might you be?” A smirk danced across his lips.
“You don’t deserve that pleasure. You’ll die without knowing my name.”
His smirk was replaced by a glare. “What an arrogant brat you are. I will slaughter you!”
“Try me.”
He lunged, scythe raised, and you dashed to the side only barely dodging. The sight of your blood, however, sent a shiver of annoyance and unease within you. You bent down and pulled your daggers out of the sheathes attached to your ankles, regaining a stance. In the next moment both of you leaped into the air clashing. You kept your daggers in front of you, holding off his scythe as you both tried over-powering each other. You seemed equally matched, but you managed to parry his scythe with one dagger and lash at him with the other occasionally. Finally managing a direct hit, Rokuro winced and jumped back. He bared fangs at you, but you only tapped the dagger with his blood on your shoulder impatiently, egging him on. He lunged hysterically and you crossed your daggers in a defensive X position as he continued slashing, blinded with rage.
/He’s obviously vain. I made one little scratch on him and he throws a fit./ You rolled your eyes, keeping up your defense.
“Vain? How crude, I am merely showing you my true strength!”
Your eyes widened and you suddenly felt a surge of power emit from you, causing Rokuro to skid backwards. “Stay. Out. Of. My. Mind. Teme.” You were the angry one now. “My thoughts aren’t meant to be read by a lowlife like you,” you found yourself saying, but actually thinking /Why am I so angry? Hiei’s read my mind dozens of times and I’ve never gotten this mad. [Eyes Widen] No, not again.../
A grimace formed on your lips as you held up your daggers, you eyes flashing from red to silver. Electric sparks formed on the dagger points as you lunged with newly drawn speed.
**
Hiei’s POV:
I stopped dead in my tracks, sensing Amaya’s aura was out of control. My eyes widened, knowing all too well what this meant. Picking up my speed I rushed to the door ahead, but the hallway was endless. It wasn’t until I shook away the anger that I finally noticed that I was trapped in an illusion. And, unaware to me, so were the others.
**
Back to You:
Rokuro continued dodging, but his expression was pure bewilderment.
/How did she obtain all this energy? What the hell is going on!/ he thought as he barely dodged another swipe.
