Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Worthless Onna ❯ Blind and Oblivious ( Chapter 15 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
Another battle was taking place inside you.

/C’mon! I can’t let this overpower me again... No, not this time./ You were trapped inside your own mind, struggling for control over the vermin usually caged within you. You found yourself bashing against mental “walls” continuously with little reaction until one wall cracked. Your body came to a halt and your voice echoed inside your mind, /I don’t need you to win! Not with Hiei, and not with this teme! Now go back to that little room of yours in the back of my mind!/ Your spirit energy seemed to engulf the vermin as you were now conscious, once again in control.

Rokuro doesn’t hesitate in switching back to the offensive. You felt an absolute decrease of power returning to your normal form, but didn’t let it distract you as you quicken your pace. Luckily you still dominate in speed, so you dashed forward, forgetting that he was also a psychic demon. He smirked, an odd glow emitting from his eyes as he lifted you into the air with his mind. Kicking and squirming proved pointless, but still you persisted, glaring and shouting very “colorful” remarks. He replied with roaring laughter, throwing you against the walls. However, a memory popped into your head as you landed dizzily.

Memory:
“Mom! [Tearing Up] I burnt myself...” A toddler version of you revealed a blackened finger.
“Oh honey, I don’t have time for this! I’m going to be late for work! Go see your father!”
“But MOM!”
With no reply you head towards a door at the end of the hallway, sniffling in fear. Sweat drowning your face, you open the door wishing your brother was home as your trembling fingers leave the doorknob. A gulp fills your throat seeing your father shake his arms aggressively at the television, which is playing some sports game.
“...Dad?”
He grunted in annoyance, glaring when he realized it was you. “What do you want this time, little shit?” The trembling continues as you show your singed finger to your father. He merely laughed and turns back to the television. “Go to your mother.”
“I already have...” you mumbled and he turned back around. Eye twitching, he snatched your finger and examined it.
“What the hell did you do?” he asked still looking at it.
“Mom wanted me to light candles so I used your lighter, but burnt myself...[Sniff]” you said, still feeling the sting. You heard a grinding of teeth and looked up, terrified, seeing that once again your father had snapped.
“Who said you could use my lighter? It’s not a toy!” he yelled and slammed you against the wall. You tried getting up still wincing from the pain, but only succeeded in getting thrown to another wall. It went on for nearly another hour before your brother arrived home and came running.

Back to Reality:
Your eyes opened slowly to see you were once again being lifted into the air.
“Ah, finally awake I see. For a second there I thought you were dead. [Chuckle]” Rokuro said seeing you awaken. Still caught up in the memory, however, you remained silent. “What, no snappy comeback?” he asks mockingly.
You couldn’t stand to see such a triumphant smirk. Not on Hiei, and especially not on him. “No, just thinking what a terrible thing to wake up to... YOUR UGLY FACE,” you said, managing an exhausted smirk of your own.
He threw you into another wall angrily.
/This is getting old./ you thought, keeping a barrier up. Rokuro laughed again and held you in the air once more. His expression became more hysterical as he went on a rampage of throwing you into wall after wall. /Correction. NOW I’m annoyed!/
A bright silver ignited your body, cutting off the drift of telepathy from Rokuro, and you glided to the ground. You noticed he let his guard down and moved next to him in seconds, quickly landing many punch and kick combos, ending it with an uppercut to the jaw. He went flying across the arena and diving into the fiery lava pit. You barely managed a smirk before there was an uproar of exploding lava.
/How the HELL... Oh, shit./
He chuckled. “Forget I was a fire demon, did you?”
You clenched your fist until your knuckles burned white, attacking him only to find he was bluffing. [Anime Sweat Drop] Noticing he let his guard down again you got an idea. You unattached the dangling chain from your jeans, propelling it above you. Silver flashed threw your eyes and electric sparks danced around the circling chain. Launching such an electrocution, Rokuro was paralyzed and as soon as the fireworks ended you noticed he had fallen.

Hiei’s POV:
It was pointless to run, I knew, but I was desperate. I needed to find a way out of this illusion. I stopped after a while, figuring I’d try to contact Kurama.
/Kurama? Kurama! Can you hear me?/
/Loud and clear, Hiei. How’s your path treating you?/ He sounded exhausted.
/Hn. I made quick work of a dragon earlier, but now I’m stuck in an illusion./
/I believe I am as well. I don’t think I have the energy to continue for long.../
/Well, think of a way out Mr. Strategist! Have you not felt how much energy Amaya’s lost? The onna might as well be dead!/
/Calm down, Hiei, there’s no need to worry. We’ve all seen the full potential of her ability and YOU KNOW she’ll be all right./
/WORRIED?!/
/[Chuckle] Oh never mind, but we really should find a way out of this./

Suddenly a pain-filled scream echoed through the whole building, drawing our attention. I recognized it as a male voice, knowing it had to be that teme of a demon.
/Feel that? All that energy he lost!/ Kurama said enthusiastically.
I smirked replying /Yes/ as the hallways blurred. My smirk grew, knowing the illusion was now weaker than ever. My Jagan shot wide open, glowing a bright blue as the hallways began to shift and change. The blur danced and shriveled until the sound of shattering came to my ears. I retrieved my katana and then headed for the door at full speed, and so did the others.

Back to You:
Rokuro slowly stood up, but you didn’t hesitate. You ran at him with more punches and kicks, and plunged your dagger inside him. He wailed in pain, withdrawing the dagger and trying to attack you, but it was fruitless. In one last effort he grabbed your tail, making every hairline bristle out on your whole body. You slowly turned your head, facing him with red eyes and hissed. Bad mistake.
/Okay, that’s it! He can insult me, throw me into walls, and monologue all he wants...but when he pulls my tail... NOW I’M PISSED./ you thought angrily sparking, snatching your tail and attacking in blinded fury. He fell to the ground one mess of bruises, gashes, claw marks, burns (both fire and electric), frostbites, and a hissing melt that was turning his body to mush. Still having enough difficulty breathing as it is, you tried your luck at standing. Although wobbly, you stood and saw the shocked faces of the others staring you down.
You spat blood to the side. “He pulled my tail.”
Walking passed them you heard Yusukue mutter to Kuwabara something about staying on your good side and a weak smile spread to your lips. Then you stopped dead in your tracks as well as Hiei and Kurama.
“What’s the matter?” Kuwabara and Yusukue asked.
“He’s alive,” Kurama murmured.
You turned around in less than a second and sent a rush of wind hissing by the windows. The curtains fell to the floor, revealing dawn: sunlight. Rokuro cried out in pain and turned into ashes. You picked up your fallen dagger, licking and spitting away the blood, “Not anymore.” You tried making the dramatic exit, but found yourself falling to the ground. You never reached the floor, however, for you were caught in mid-air as you blacked out from lack of blood.

You woke up what felt like hours later being carried on Hiei’s back. You huffed in annoyance inwardly, mildly taking in the view of the city around you before the others walked into the forest. Although raspy, you managed to whisper to Hiei, “I want to go to my home one last time before we go.” He nodded and you dozed off for the rest of the trip, enjoying the wind that nipped at you as he ran. Not too long afterwards Kurama woke you up, smiling weakly as he helped you up. You nodded at him, looking up and sighing at the sight of your old home.
/It’s been too long./
The others waited as you walked inside, letting your hand slide against the cement walls. Everything about this place held a memory to you. Times of desperation, times of joy, and of happiness. Yet you were still here, alive, and in one piece. You smiled and walked back out, but just as you were about to signal to leave you heard something as well as the others.

Whistling?

Yes. Someone nearby was whistling a familiar tune as they walked down the path, getting closer. As the stranger came into view you saw it was a boy with a cane. You frowned and jumped into the only tree near, not wanting to frighten the boy now that your clothes were too battered to conceal you. But the whistling stopped, and so did the boy suddenly. You raised an eyebrow and stared down at the boy who seemed no more than twelve. He was also entirely clad in white. He had a loose white jacket lined with pearl white buttons and two pockets on the chest covering a long sleeved white shirt. He had tight white pants that met his ragged white stockings at his ankles with his white-heeled shoes, black on bottom. He wore a cross at his neck and a white hat was placed over his head that covered his wavy brown hair, concealing his eyes to a dark brown with a suspicious glint. He sniffed at the breeze and mouthed the word, “Demon.”
Your eyes widened wondering how he knew, but your thoughts were disturbed as he threw his cane directly at you, it circling like a boomerang. You tilted your head just in time and the cane returned to the boy’s care. The others approached defensively, causing him to throw the cane at them as well. Yusuke put his arm up for a block but, surprisingly, the cane dug at his skin. Yusuke yelped in pain as it returned and the boy caught it.
“I have no interest in you, human, all I want are the demons. Don’t interfere,” the boy said with in tone mature for his age and in a British accent. He then dashed for Hiei, but before Hiei could unsheathe his katana you jumped down and blocked with your dagger.
“...Back off,” you threatened. The boy stared back and you were locked in his eyes. They were a dark brown as you thought, but the iris...

The boy became angered.
“Get out of my way, demon! I’m bloody well gonna kill you next!”
/Kill him already, we need to get back before someone sees you./ Hiei suddenly interjected in your mind.
/He’s human!/
/Hn./
The boy grew impatient, knocking a dagger out of your hand and hitting your jaw with his cane.
/You’re sure you don’t want to kill him?/ Hiei said mockingly.
You glared at him over your shoulder as the boy came at you again. Still drained from your previous battle, you sighed and let silver ignite your aura once again. You were enclosed in a raging white flame and when it burst you were in your true kitsune form.
“Oh bloody hell...” he muttered under his breath. You disappeared and reappeared behind him, but he whirled around hitting you smack on the head. You growled at him and snatched his cane with your teeth and lunged it away. The boy’s eyes widened in fear and he began frantically searching for his cane, stumbling here and there. Your eyes widened.

The boy was blind.

Your eyes softened and stayed in a daze as you approached the boy. You kneeled next him seeing tears welling up in his eyes and he desperately tried shoeing you away as he continued patting the ground looking everywhere for his beloved walking stick. Your ears drooped seeing this, letting your gaze wander until reaching where the boy’s cane had fallen. You sighed and retrieved it while ignoring the looks of the others, letting it fall by the boy’s feet. No response. You decided to approach him and sat by his side, leaning on his shoulder and licked part of his cheek. You smiled hearing the boy’s silent cries disperse and his hands slowly slipped away from his face. His head tilted in your direction, facing you with tear-stained, red eyes. You blinked waiting for him to reach for his cane, but he just stayed staring at you in silence. You sighed and cautiously bent down to retrieve it once more, and dropped it onto the boy’s lap. He jumped up slightly from the sudden impact, but slowly moved his hand to his lap and ran a finger down the fine wood. His eyes widened and he grasped the cane firmly until the point where his knuckles turned white, and then he looked back at you. He suddenly sprang up straight at you and held his arms around you in a tight embrace, and he dropped the cane behind you. Your ears went straight up at this, but soon softened, as did your eyes as you lifted a paw onto the boy’s back. Your paw soon shifted back to a hand as you transformed back into your original state and still cradled the boy in your arms cooing him in assurance once more. His once shut eyes opened realizing it wasn’t fur he was clinging to anymore, but flesh. He jumped back, crawling backwards on his feet like a crab before slipping on a tree root. You gave an amused laugh and picked up his cane that rested behind you. You walked over to him where he now sat rubbing his head that was burning red with embarrassment and sat down next him, returning to him his cane. He smiled for the first time and gratefully took it saying, “That’s rather kind of you, Miss...”
You returned the smile, “You know, you should smile like that more often, it’s cute,” you said poking his nose. He stuttered and you could detect a blush. You laughed at his innocence and patted him gently on the head. “Don’t worry I’m only kidding, you don’t have to. I know I don’t, or at least hardly and don’t see any reason to make others smile. That is their decision, and it’s only my opinion. It’s like I’ve been told; who would take advice from me?” you said with a goofy grin.
He smiled at you confusedly before you asked, “So kid, do you have a name?”
He was reacquainted with his bashfulness and he said barely above a whisper, “...Billy...”
You gave a smile, “Well, Billy, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Amaya.”
“...Likewise, Billy stuttered.

Gang’s POV:
While waiting impatiently, the gang had figured it out among themselves that the boy was blind. What they couldn’t understand, however, was your sudden generosity. It was like you were a completely different person and the sight of you actually acting like a normal girl, laughing and smiling, made them each stare with awe.
/[Blink] Is that really Amaya? This isn’t like her...at least, I’ve never seen her like this. Laughing and smiling to a boy who cannot even see... see how [Has difficulty finding words]...beautiful... she looks like this.../ Kurama thought to himself with a grim smile.
Luckily, Hiei was too preoccupied with his own thoughts to hear his. He stared down the hill in confusion at Amaya. Actually showing affection... and smiling and laughing like a giddy school girl with that child... that lucky child... Hiei shook his head in shame and embarrassment, trying to mask his own jealousy.

Back to You:
Over the passing time you and Billy have struck up conversation, which in turn lead to the explanation of your battle with Rokuro.
“Well he pulled my tail ” you shouted in frustration and Billy laughed lightly. You faced him and your eye twitched, “What are you laughing at?” but he only gave a goofy grin and you sighed and your eye wandered. A sudden shock lit your eyes noticing Billy’s clothes; they were filthy.
/He must be on his own then [Sigh]/ you thought and looked back at Billy. “Billy...why aren’t you with your family?” you asked slowly not sure if it was your place.
“Hmm? Oh...” he replied switching from cheerfulness to a daze.
“It’s okay...you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to...” you said remaining silent.
Billy sighed. “No, it’s just... a long story.”
“I’ve got time.” you said completely oblivious to the others.
Another sigh escaped from Billy, “Well all right. My father...grew up in England as a novelist, you see, and traveled to America wanting to see its beauty, but what he found most beautiful was...my mum. [Small smile] Father met her at a diner where she was his waitress one day, and well he just couldn’t stop thinking about her. He visited that diner day after day for lunch until finally striking up the nerve to ask her out. But what he didn’t expect was that she asked first [Chuckle] Yes... father accepted and many dates followed after before they married. It wasn’t long after that mum had me, and even though I am blind...they never discouraged me. They always stood by me... And father even made me a cane and helped me learn to walk with it... I never let go of my cane...and I grew up into the happiest life that I do not deserve...” Billy paused, and you put a hand on his shoulder. “One night...father took the late shift for his other job, leaving mum and me alone. I was helping with dinner when there was a noise from outside. Before I knew it Mum grabbed me and ran upstairs as the noise grew louder. She stopped at her room (I remember because it smelled of lilac...) and put me in a small closet with a hidden compartment. She told me to stay quiet and closed the door, but I panicked. The noise had entered the house. Father had come home and I heard rustling and screaming before the noise continued. First downstairs...then upstairs...across the hall.... MUM! DAD! I–I couldn’t help myself. I cried out and that thing heard me. I heard it coming and covered myself, screaming, and all I remember is feeling very warm and the monster suddenly disappeared. [Sigh] After the police arrived I was sent to an orphanage where I met sensei... he had a small dojo and helped me train. I just escaped today, actually...”
You didn’t know what to say at first. “Your parents seemed like they loved you very much. It was very bold of them to sacrifice themselves for you,” you paused and smiled. “Your mother seemed like a beautiful person too, by the way you talk about her.”
“Yes, she was... [Looks up, smiling awkwardly] You are too, Amaya,” he said out of nowhere and you laughed.
“Right.”
“I’m serious.”
“[Blink] Well, you’re wrong.”
Billy sighed and crept closer to you. “Let me see for myself.”
“But you can’t, Billy, you’re—”

“Blind?” Billy finished and you muttered a yes.“I don’t have to ‘see’ you threw my eyes, Amaya, to know beauty,” [Hears nothing but confused silence and sighs] “Let me show you,” Billy said and put his hands on your cheeks. He felt around your eyes, nose, fidgeted at your kitsune ears, and your other facial features until withdrawing his hands and looking at you with a smile. “I can’t find it...”
“Can’t find what?”

“Ugliness. I can’t find a single shred of ugliness Amaya. You are beautiful, as I said before, love,” Billy said with a warm smile.

Author's Note:
Cue: more drama! Haha, I actually really liked the idea of a blind boy in my story. The fact that he's British and kicks arse among other things... Well, that's just me having fun. Regardless, hope you enjoyed. Now be good little duckies and review!
[Billy smacks me with his cane] "I'm the only British character around here!"
Okay, okay, sheeeesh.
