Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Yu Yu Hakusho and the Witch ❯ Akiko has a brother ( Chapter 7 )
I cocked my eyebrow up like my father would do when someone said something that didn't really make sense to him. I carried that gene I guess. Genkai walked to where the stairs were and stared out to the forest surrounding them.
"Yes the day of the massacre of the witches happened only about nine years ago. Akiko I knew your mother," she said still facing the forest.
"You knew my mother?" I asked surprisingly.
My mother had never kept a secret from me. I asked her several times when I was younger what they human world had looked like and if she had ever been there. She had always said she hadn't been there. Genkai nodded.
"Yes your mother traveled back and forth from the witch part of Makai to here in the human world. Then one day I found your mother dieing from poison. I saved her life and she and I became old friends since then. She made tea for me and cleaned the temple everyday for me. Then on the day of the massacre your mother came back for one final time and with her was a baby boy," Genkai said looking at me.
I fell to my knees confused. I thought I was an only child. My mother had never said anything about a brother. Genkai took out a whistle from her pocket and blew. A loud screeching noise came from it and echoed in the woods. Soon all was silent. We looked around expecting something to happen but nothing came.
"Hey grandma, is there a reason you blew that whistle and why you almost made me go deaf?!" Yusuke yelled.
"Shut up and look up there," she said pointing above us.
There above us was a speak speeding down at us. It became bigger and bigger until you can finally make it out. It was a young boy with jet black hair like mine, and glittering gray eyes like mine. He was also riding what seemed to be a broomstick. I stared in awe as he landed in front of Genkai with ease.
"Hey Genkai what's up?" he asked in a carefree, lighthearted voice.
I was speechless and didn't know what to say, so Genkai spoke for me.
"Toyo, I want you to meet your sister," she said pointing at me.
The boy turned and looked at me. He eyed me for a moment and then laughed.
"Oh come on Genkai. I don't have a sister and I did it wouldn't be that girl over there. She would be a lot prettier," he said laughing.
My eyes narrowed in anger.
"Hey what's that suppose to mean you little twit?!" I shouted at him.
He glared back at me.
"What did you call me ugly?" he asked angrily.
"You heard me you little twit! And how dare you call me ugly!" I yelled at him.
He jumped at me but I was too quick. I recited a spell and a wall of earth surrounded me protectively. He ran into it and bounced back. The earth that protected me fell to the ground as I put my arms at my side and looked at him. Just then Genkai walked between us calmly with her hands in front of us.
"I don't feel like being responsible for killing the last of your kind of I suggest you just cooperate with each other," she said.
"Well how do I know she's my sister?" Toyo asked swatting away Genaki's hand.
"And how do I know he is my brother?" I asked placing her hand at her side.
She looked at both of us and then to me.
"Akiko do you remember that song your mother would sing to you?" she asked.
I did remember. It was my lullaby when I was little. Before I would go to bed she would sing it to me and I would sleep so soundly. I nodded at Genkai.
"I want you to sing a part of it for him," she commanded pointing at Toyo, "If he is your brother he will remember the song."
I shrugged and walked up to him. He stood there closing his eyes muttering that this was pointless. As much as I agreed with him I thought maybe it wasn't as pointless. I cleared my throat and remembered what it sounded like. (Note: this song is not mine. This song is called Washu's Lullaby from Tenchi Muyo.)
"April roses, Tiny sparrows, Comets bright and new, All belong together with the mystery that is you, When I see your little face, I hear a song, From long ago, I think you know, The many secrets I forgotten, Generations through the ages, Joined as one some how, Leading to the miracle, That I am holding now, From the sky and from the sea, Upon a breeze you came to me, You seem to see, A greater universe then I do, Sleep my baby, Sleep my baby, Dream of somewhere far away, Do you remember still, How I hope you always will, Keep a memory of the day, The world was born."
I stopped slowly and saw Toyo open his eyes widely. He gasped and then looked at me with surprise.
"You are me sister," he said and sang another part of the song he had remembered our mother sing to him, "When you wake up, I'll be waiting, Eager for your smile, You had quite a journey darling, You should rest a while, When you cry we still rejoice, To hear your voice (Note: This part I changed a bit to make sense with the story. Original line: `My sweet Washu'.) My sweet Toyo don't you, Understand how much we love you."
A tear slowly ran down my cheek. I couldn't say anything so I knelt down and hugged him. Finally the family I thought I had lost forever and will never know came back. Just then I heard someone sniffle a bit. I looked up and saw Yusuke and Kuwabara standing there with their eyes full of tears but not letting a single one out. We both looked at them and laughed.
