Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Yu Yu Hakusho and the Witch ❯ Off to Makai ( Chapter 9 )

"Come on guys you're walking so slow," I stated as I walked in front of the group in the woods.

It was about pre-dawn when we woke up and started walking towards Makai. Koji was resting on my shoulder as the boys staggered behind. Some how I was full of energy and ready to go, but the others were still tired and hungry. We didn't have much of a breakfast unless you count a piece of toast and tea a breakfast. So the guys were tired and I felt bad. I stopped them and they looked at me oddly.

"Hey why are you stopping?" Yusuke asked.

I smiled as a low rumble came from Yusuke's stomach. Hiei gave his usual `hn' from he's weakness when his stomach gave a low rumble as well. Smiling I but Koji on the ground walked away.

"Hey where are you going?!" Yusuke shouted as he sat down on the ground.

I turned around smiling. "I'm going to get some food. There should be a nearby stream around here. I'll be back later."

Well I found the stream now all I needed was the fish. I took off my shoes and socks and waded in the stream. No luck in catching them with my hands, so I took my cloak and caught a bunch of them that way. When I was done I then gathered some branches in a bundle and walked back to where the guys were.

By the time I got there they were all sleeping. Yusuke was propped up on a tree, Kuwabara resting on the side of a tree as well with Koji on his lap, Hiei was in a tree sleeping, and Kurama was also sleeping in a tree. I smiled and got a fire started to old fashion way (with two sticks or rocks, which ever one is better) and put the fish on some sticks. As I was cooking the fish I heard someone running towards up. I looked up surprised as Toyo came running.

"Toyo?" I asked softly as he sped and tackled me to the ground.

I gave a loud `humph' as I crashed to the ground causing the others to wake up. Yusuke and Kuwabara looked up startled as Kurama and Hiei jumped from the trees. They glanced around and then saw me on the ground an enraged Toyo sitting on me.

"Why didn't you wait for me to come!? I'm your only brother and the only part of your family left, shouldn't we stick together or something?!" he shouted at me.

I simply smiled and picked him up off of me and on to the ground. When I sat up I answered, Yeah you are my only family and everything but that gives me more reason to make you stay here. If I were to die…"

"But you won't die! You're going to live and we are going to live together like a family should!" he cried.

Tears swelled in his eyes as he tried to fight them back. I stared at him and then slimed.

"Oh come on Toyo, don't be going soft on me now kid. What happened to the little sharp-tongued, firecracker from before?" I said as I playfully punched his arm.

He smiled back. Toyo then sniffed the air and turned back to the fish that were now perfectly done. His stomach rumbled a bit.

"Want some there's plenty?" I asked as Kurama and the others walked over.

He nodded and quickly grabbed the one Yusuke was about to take.

"Hey kid that one was mine!" Yusuke shouted.

Toyo grinned, "First come, first serve." And with that said he took a huge bit out of the fish. We all eat happily at some points. Yusuke and Kuwabara fought over the food as Kurama, Hiei, Toyo, and I watched. It was funny I never saw anyone fight over something I cooked before.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It was about noon when we reached Makai finally. It changed since the last time I've been here. It was quite and peaceful. I didn't like it. I flew with Koji in my arms next to Kurama and Toyo was sitting on my broom.

"Man, how long till we get to this place you were talking about?" Yusuke asked a bit annoyed.

"Patience is averter you," I stated and flew a head a bit.

"Huh? Hey what the hell does that bullshit mean?!" Yusuke yelled.

I ignored it and flew towards the edge of the path we were walking on. Looking out on Makai, I still couldn't see the town where we were suppose to go. I then flew out a bit further but was stopped by Kurama holding me back.

"Akiko, it wouldn't be a wise idea to let you fly around by yourself," he said with concern in his voice.

"Well what am I suppose to do then? Unless we get a bird's eye view of things so that we know where everything is I don't see any other way of finding it," I said flying back towards the cliff and jumping off my broom when I got close enough.

Koji jumped down and sat on the ground in front of me as we sat there for a moment. No one could fly at the height I was at and Toyo might get hurt and that's the last thing I wanted. Hiei won't by able to jump that high and land without getting hurt. That's when Kuwabara spoke up.

"Hey how about one of us goes with you on the broom?" he stated.

"That's stupid," stated Yusuke, "Hey I know how about one of us goes with you to look? That way we can protect you if anything happens."

"Hey Urameshi that was my idea!" Kuwabara said.

"Was it or were you just thinking it?" Yusuke asked.

Kuwabara stood there thinking about the question as the rest of us talked about who was going.

"Well I think I should go," declared Toyo, "Not only do I have my own broom so if I fall no one would have to worry about me."

"Yes but if we ran into a demon then what would happen? I can't perform any magic and you are just a beginner at spells. Toyo as much as you may want to help I'm afraid you really can't. I don't want to see you get hurt or worst. You are the only family I have left and I'm not going to lose you," I stated.

"Well then how about I go," stated Yusuke, "I can protect you and still have energy left for when we get to the town and back."

"That maybe true but all the more reason for you to stay here. I doubt any demons will come by here so you can save energy. If you were to run out of energy quickly then Hiei and Kurama would be the only ones with energy to sustain the trip, and who knows who long that could be," I replied to Yusuke request.

"Then maybe I should go," Hiei stated in his normal tone of voice, "I'm lighter then the others so you can go faster, and like you said I do have enough energy that might sustain this journey. I can attack close distance and far distance as well."

"True but your far distance attacks will take a lot out of you and I maybe good at magic and all but not enough to heal you quickly. Your arm will still be damaged after your dragon technique and therefore you will be at a disadvantage then the demon you might be fighting against," I said leading me to the only person left how can help me.

"Then I shall go," Kurama demanded, "Yusuke and Hiei are strong enough without me so if my energy was low then they will be able to fight. I have my rose wipe for a distance attack and for close range then the rose wipe will still be in use. It doesn't take up much energy for the rose wipe to form so my energy will still be at its peak by the time we get back. Akiko, I'm the only alternative left so I suggest I just go with you."

There was no arguing about it. Yusuke and Hiei were the strongest we have and Kurama's rose wipe can hit far and close range so he wouldn't use a lot of spirit energy. Not to mention the fact that if things did get out of hand then he can always summon Youko for help. Reluctantly trying to think of another person I nodded. If anything were to happen to Kurama then that would be my fault and I shall forever live in misery. That is a chance I shall have to take though. I hopped on my broom and held out my hand or Kurama. He took it and I pulled him up as he sat down behind me. Koji sat there meowing at me but I smiled.

"Koji stay here with the others till I get back ok?"

Koji then jumped on Toyo's shoulder and sat there. Smiling I left the others with Kurama holding on tightly to my waist.
