Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ YYH DS: A Perfect Plan ❯ One-Shot
Fixed and re-uploaded 10 Nov 04
HieiWannabe: Welcome one and all, to the very first fanfic I have ever posted!
(confetti rains down)
HieiWannabe: Allow me to introduce myself and my beta! Well, actually, if you care, go read my profile instead.
Wynne: Now we know why she doesn't have real friends, and has to make up imaginary ones like me.
HieiWannabe: Shut up!
Wynne: See what I mean? Anyway, HW, why don't you stop trying to scare people and get to the part they're interested in? You know, the story?
HieiWannabe: Okay, okay. This is the first installment of a timeline I'm developing.
As I was watching the series, like most fans I came across places where I thought they should have added an extra scene or two to round out the plot. So, I decided to type them up and call them - what else? - YYH Deleted Scenes. So far, I've got seven that I'm definitely going to do and four more that I may do once I've seen those parts of the anime. Anytime these stories overlap with the anime I'm going to quote from the English dub. I know some people hate Funimation, but that's all I got. Gomen.
This was originally posted on FanFiction.net but it's not anymore. If you care to find out why, read my profile.
Anyway, this chapter is what I think about how the `Three Thieves' (Kurama, Hiei, and Gouki) got together.
But, first, the disclaimer and warning! I don't own YuYu Hakusho! I can't think of a funny way to say it! This fic contains mild swearing and a little fighting! Yaay!
(Wynne pushes the silly author away from the computer)
Wynne: Never mind, I'll do these things from now on because you're insane! I just hope the story's better than this or you're gonna have a very short fanficking career… -_-;

YYH Deleted Scenes part 1
A Perfect Plan
Kurama knelt before the heavy door, carefully picking the final lock. He had three minutes left before the roving guard would return. `More than enough time,' he thought. It was fortunate for them that Reikai's guards were inept enough to follow a schedule like that. In Makai, guards generally knew better and would vary their routines to prevent openings for thieves.
Hiei and Gouki stood on either side of the door, watching down the hallway. Hiei went over the plan in his mind. `Perfect,' he gloated, `I've really outdone myself this time.'
Actually, though, the plan itself was nothing special. It was the people he had recruited for the heist that really made everything fall into place. First, there was himself. Despite the fact that he was the mastermind behind the crime, Hiei was the one doing the grunt-work. After all, Kurama was a good fighter, but he would not be able to subdue the guards inside the vault before they set off the alarm. And Gouki was practically useless when it came to fighting. Kurama was the designated thief, of course. Meeting the former youko nearly four years before had been a real stroke of luck. But Hiei still took credit for that, considering that his luck was usually so poor he felt that any good fortune he had was a real accomplishment. Gouki, however, was with the group for the information he could provide. And once it had been provided, he was nothing more than dead-weight.
Hiei fought back a sigh. He really did not like the gaki. Gouki was a scavenger and a bully, always boasting about whatever piddling little thing he had done. He was one of those fools who did not realize that being willing to commit dishonorable deeds that were beneath everyone else was nothing to brag about. That was, in fact, how Hiei had met Gouki.
About four months before, Hiei had gotten a tip about humans that were dealing in youkai slaves. Since his sister's trail had long since gone cold, the fire demon was desperately following up on any possible lead.
The tip led to a warehouse. Inside were several humans, indolently laying around, smoking, playing cards, and terrorizing the weak demons who had been unfortunate enough to be caught by them. They had been no match for a real fighter.
Since dead men tell no tales, Hiei had left the humans alive. While he waited for them to recover consciousness, he questioned the captives about any young females that might have been held by the slavers. The fire youkai held little hope that he might hear something useful, and his expectations were not unfulfilled. Dispiritedly, he released the poor wretches and began poring over the ningen's records.
So engrossed was he in checking the books that he almost missed the arrival of another youkai. Almost.
"Who are you and what are you doing here?" he had asked.
The burly demon, who had been intent on the fallen humans, jumped at the call. "Heh, heh. Don't mind me. But I couldn't help but notice the fight you just had. And now it looks like you've got a bunch o' humans on yer hands. Need any help getting rid of the extras?"
"Hn. Do whatever you want," Hiei said, turning back to the slaver's logs. It looked like questioning the fools would be a waste of time. He had speed-read through most of the documents but had not seen anything that would indicate Yukina had ever been anywhere near the men.
Stifling a weary sigh, he looked out the window and tried to put a positive spin on his wild-goose chase. `If she's not here, maybe she's okay. Maybe Yukina just got lost somewhere,' he thought, though he knew in his heart it was not true.
Hiei got up and turned to go. He was surprised to see Gouki there, having forgotten about him in his disappointment. Cursing himself for inattention, he looked more closely at the larger demon. Gouki was picking up the humans and throwing them over his shoulder. He had collected three already and was trying to accommodate a fourth. "What the hell are you doing?"
"Well I can't eat `em here!" Gouki laughed. "Human souls taste best after they've been prepared…" Gouki leered at Hiei, laughing at the disgust he saw on his face. Deciding to try to see if he could make the dainty-looking youkai puke, he continued, "Trust me, I've been doing this for a long time! Heh, heh, I'm even on `Reikai's Most Wanted' `cause I stole so many of their precious little human souls! Hah, haha!"
The word `Reikai' caught Hiei's attention. As much as he despised someone who would kill prey that had been taken down by another hunter, he forced a smirk on his face and asked, "You've been to Reikai?"
"Oh hell, yeah! I been in and out o' that place more times `en I could count! They keep trying to lock me up an' I keep escapin'. Those folks have the most pathetic security!"
It was like music to Hiei's ears. He had long felt that his efforts to locate his sister had been futile because Ningenkai was so large, and he was only one person. Even the imps were of little use, because since they were not human, there were many places they could not go. The Jagan was not helpful in that respect, either, because he could only send posessed humans so far. But if he had a legion of humans whose movements were not restricted, there would be little he couldn't do to find his sister. Hiei's smirk became less forced as he thought, `And they could be useful in other ways…'
And a way to accomplish this could be found in Reikai.
So, Hiei had gathered Gouki and Kurama and told them his plan. Gouki would provide information on palace security, and then Kurama would do what he did best. And for their parts in the robbery, each would get one-third of the take.
A soft "Got it" from Kurama brought Hiei's attention back to the present. He nodded, indicating he was prepared for the next part. The plan was for Hiei to enter and subdue the guards while Kurama took his place to watch the hall. Once the guards were out of the way, Hiei would take the relics and they would leave. If all went well, they would be in Ningenkai before anything was missed.
At Hiei's nod, Kurama heaved the door open. The oni guards barely had a chance to say, "What the - " before a black flicker came through the opening and knocked them to the floor.
Hiei went quickly to the altar and checked it for alarms. Nothing too imaginative, merely a weight sensor that would alarm if the weapons were touched. The fire demon smirked and removed his bandana. He had not brought anything to anchor the mobile stand, but telekinesis would do just fine. Once he moved out of range, the alarm would sound, but by then it would be too late.
Slowly lifting the Ghostslayer first, he carefully compensated for the lessening weight with the power of the Jagan. He had just cleared the sword and was about to reach for the mirror when a voice spoke close behind him.
"What the hell's taking so long? Just grab the damn things and let's scram!"
Hiei spun to face Gouki and tell him off, but not before the fool demonstrated his desire for haste by picking up the orb. Immediately the lights dimmed, an alarm sounded, and a computerized voice declared the location of the disturbance.
"You idiot! You set off the alarm! Why didn't you stay at your post?" Hiei glared at the flabbergasted expression on the other's face. Gouki started to mumble some excuse, but Hiei cut him off. "Never mind. Let's go before anyone responds."
Seeing no reason to keep the weight on the tray, Hiei released it and retied his headband. He snatched up the Mirror of Utter Darkness and walked back to Kurama. The redhead was surprisingly unflustered by either the botch-up or the sight of his prize. He merely gazed at the small mirror for a moment before pocketing it.
Gouki turned and started walking after Hiei. As he came close to a fallen guard, the oni began to pick himself up off the floor. Unable to resist, Gouki thought, `You want up, huh?' and reached down, grabbed the guard's head, and lifted him off the floor. The creature made a small mewling sound as Gouki, eyes aglow with blood-lust, began to crush his skull.
Hiei turned to see what was holding up his partner, only to be shocked silent at the cowardly act. He stared for a moment before composing himself. "Alright, Gouki. That's enough," he commanded.
Kurama had been watching the proceedings dispassionately until Hiei spoke up. He was surprised at the look of outrage on the little demon's face. After all, Kurama knew Hiei had done many terrible things in his life, so why should he be upset that someone else had caused pain to an innocent? Any other time Kurama might have tried to unravel his friend's motives, but this time he had more important things on his mind. To forestall an argument, he added, "Yes. Our time grows short."
Gouki, upset at having to leave a victim alive, tossed the injured guard to the floor and joined his fleeing comrades.
