Overall, not a bad attempt. The story's intriguing and interesting, especially the dilemma facing the main characters in the latter chapters. However, the knowledge of game terms and using such things as "hit points" (such as Squall knowing that he still has three thousand hit points left) shatters the "reality" of the story world. To Squall, Irvine, Quistis and the rest, their life force would feel to them like our own feels to us. We don't think of ourselves in terms of having hit points, and neither should they. They wouldn't think of their ability to use Items or not in terms of having the "Item skill". They're not characters aware of the fact that they live in a game world; to them, that is their world and they should relate to it accordingly. |
