Why not pair Naruto with Hinata? She's the only female in the Rookie 9 that isn't shallow, she saw Naruto before the phantom abilities emerged, and she's the first person to acknowledge that Naruto is capable of reaching the level if Hokage. The way this story is being written, Sakura and Ino only get along better because they're forced to work alongside Naruto and they find out he's not such a bad person as most portray to be. That's stereotyping, which is one of the worst things a person can do. If you do give Naruto a shadow-like element with the phantom abilities, he could get some assistance from Shikamaru to fine tune it and therefore get Shikamaru to develop some new techniques from it. Kagemane is Shikamaru's original and signature move, Kagenui is the Nara clan's specialty assasination, because the fact is that the moment the opponent is caught by the Kagemane, the Kagenui will always hit because it's a shadow-hand that creeps up the target's body and strangles them. I'd prefer pairing of Shikamaru and Ino anyway. With the whole phantom bloodline with Naruto, he may also be able to prevent Sasuke from getting the curse seal because with the training he's receiving he gets more experience and therefore is able to act calmly in dire situations, besides Orochimaru might not be capable of using the Gougyo Fuin on Naruto while shifted to phantom form. Just imaqgine how much more powerful he'd be with his physical abilities increased and Kyuubi giving him a chakra boost that does an extra increase in his physical abilities.
