Augh, of all times for her to shut down and flee, that was not it. Miroku seems to have such a great read on her - knowing she wanted the physical comfort even without her saying it - that its frustrating to see she doesn't trust him - or herself - enough to tap into the same implicit knowledge. Her excuses at the end sound tired to my ears, and hopefully to hers as well. She and Miroku have been through too much for it to all break down like this at the end. I'm actually rather surprised she didn't stay and hear him out, but at the same time I understand why. She'd had two or three days to berate herself, and his rejection on top of everything else must've put her over the edge. I can't help but feel for the both of them, struggling so mightily on their own, being too afraid to struggle throug it together. Miroku makes good points, of course, but at the same time...the romantic in me says that it just feels like they should have some faith in their bond to bring them over this. This was exquisitely written, as usual =) For all your angsting over writing from Inuyasha's point of view, I thought that was definitely one of the strongest passages in the chapter. It's just like him to be frustrated and impatient and show his worry in unconventional ways. I also liked the little scene where Kagome and Sango discuss the birth control - I can't imagine how mortified Kagome must've been to see Shippo rooting around through her stuff! I know that's one conversation I wouldn't want to have with him, LOL. And, of course, that line of Miroku's at the end - "If you were to become pregnant…" immediately brought that back to mind ;) Just the fact that he phrased it like that should've given Sango some clue as to his state of mind in making such a decision...but alas. She is sometimes too stubborn for her own good! I really enjoyed the tie back to the earlier part of the story, with Midori; its nice to know she wasn't one of Naraku's underlings (though you can never tell with him...) and that her remedy came in handy after all. Well, this review has been all over the place, so I apologize for being so disorderly, but I really loved this chapter!! The tension over Miroku's mortality, the awkward concern over Kagome's condoms, the angsty introspection about the future of monk and demon slayer ~ absolutely delicious!! I am looking forward to the end, to see if you have any more surprises in store (and to see if this will, indeed, end happily!).

So the whole thing was just another one of Naraku's convoluted plots, eh? I might have guessed as much...his schemes are also so big and unwieldy and unnecessarily hurtful - like the more people he can damage along the way, the better. Ugh! So the group is in a tight spot with Miroku suddenly coming under possession, eh? That's a scary thought! I hope they make it to Mushin's and figure out an answer before the darkness consumes him. But by far, the best part of the chapter was the last part, when Sango finally confesses what happened along the way; I think she really needed to open up like that, because she definitely keeps things all bottled up inside, almost until its too late. I liked, however, that she didn't immediately feel better upon spilling her guts - when you hold something that dark and desperate within yourself for so long, and you reach the end of your emotional rope like that, it often doesn't feel better after its all out in the open. The pain is still raw, and I felt that right along with Sango there at the end. It's going to take much more than simply saying the words or reliving the memories to help her heal. I hope that the detail of her carrying her brother's weapon and Miroku's staff will prove itself symbolic, as she attempts to save them just as much as rediscover herself...Looking forward to the next few parts, and even though it feels like its winding down, I sense our group has one last battle left in them yet.

I have this feeling of uneasy foreboding as I read through the battle scene, and then a sinking sensation when I saw that word: possession. Augh! So the nightmare hasn't ended just yet, eh? And oh, good grief, for Inuyasha to find them the way he did...here's hoping he doesn't manage to beat Miroku to a bloody pulp before the rest of them have a chance to figure out what's going on! Its interesting that Miroku's the one feeling the firm grasp of this mysterious possession, which I'm guessing somehow stems from the fight with the vine demon a few chapters back? I look forward to finding out where you're taking us from here!!
| Reviewed By: kmoaton [MediaMiner Member] On: May 25, 2009 09:57 CDT Comment/Review: This was wonderful. I'm glad you decided to post it early after all. I'm stunned to see Miroku possessed and grabbing Kagome like that. I did like how you had Miroku ache for Sango while she was talking to Kohaku. It hurts to see him not respond and know he's a pawn for Naraku. This was an excellent addition to the story and I can't wait to see more about the possession! Great work!
| Title: Chapter Fourteen Reviewed By: LuxKen27 [MediaMiner Member] On: May 21, 2009 14:05 CDT Comment/Review: o.O WHAT! LOL, that was my immediate reaction upon reaching the end of this chapter. Wow, talk about an unexpected twist! Now what will our heroes do? They are so close to being reunited, but with this surprise battle...who knows when they will meet up again? And hmm, now I'm definitely wondering what the connection is between the vine demon and Naraku. Did he give it the shard? Why? As a test/trap aimed directly at Sango? It would certainly be a refreshing twist, instead of using her devotion to her brother to deepen her despair...But now that the group has met up with Kagura (and Kohaku), new questions emerge as well. Why are they there, for one? Are they looking for the shard? Is Kohaku sentient enough to be of use, or is he just a distraction? Did Kagome's arrow hit its mark? Wow!! This was a very exciting chapter, and a welcome addition to an already fabulous story. I look forward to the next chapter, to see if any of my questions will be answered!!

Congrats (again!) on your awards, they were most deservedly won - especially for characterization. You show so many different sides to Sango, her inner turmoil and conflict, and make it feel realistic to the universe and absolutely palpable at the same time. Really well done!! It was also nice to see a hint of intimacy with the kiss, and then he end...hopefully Miroku won't mess it up (like, say, by fondling her in her sleep again, LOL) and she'll open up a bit more to him. It is rather worrying, this feeling of possession he had - that brought me up short! So things aren't quite what they seem, eh? And now Kagome's having weird dreams again? Very intriguing!! I look forward to more...

The decisions and discoveries (pride versus solving problems, how pride had gotten her there) she makes and deals with are absolutely top-notch and fit her to a T. So many people are unable to balance how Sango is several people at once: a warrior, a daughter, a sister, a woman (most especially a woman of her time)... you use all of these at various times to shape her and truly make her the person she is. I feel kind of bad for Miroku; poor guy even gets chastised by Kirara for his efforts, but I get the feeling things will get better as she relies on him to help confront the others, as well.

I was so glad to see Sango overcome her self doubts and find her strength again. And, she has come to realize what Miroku means to her and she doesn't want to live without him. It looks like the vine took on the wrong opponent and the wrong tactics - for hurting Miroku only infuriated her into action, causing her to act without hesitation to save him. Great chapter, and you can't leave us hanging! I look forward to the next update to see what happens next.

How did you do that, write out (and resolve!) a battle scene and still leave us hanging in dread and terror?! Absolutely masterful! It was great to see Sango make good on her promise from the last chapter: to fight instead of die. I like that, in spite of the evidence before her, she chose to put aside her own turmoil and go after the demon, even if, in the end, the vision of Miroku was all too real and not just another nasty illusion. Hrm, do I sense a little reunion scene, now that she has put herself on the line for him? Alive but unconscious is a state I'll take at this point, LOL :) As for Midori - hm. Good or evil? I don't know, this story has taken so many different twists its hard to know who to trust anymore. Ah, well. I can't wait to see what else you have up your sleeve! :)

This chapter is amazing!! So much going on, I don't know where to start! :) I guess I should get the Inu/Kag storyline out of the way first, as it was the shorter of the two: I think you're doing a really nice job with them and their dynamic as they search for their friends. Kagome does have a tendency to blame herself, doesn't she? :) And it was nice to see Inuyasha comforting her in his own gruff way. You write them very nicely! Now, on to the main thrust of story in this chapter - Sango. I bow to you in your characterization here, because it's absolutely flawless IMO. Her thoughts - guilty, for leaving Miroku behind in her inital search, foolish and angry at being caught in the demon's trap again - were imbued with just the right sense of personal anguish. I could feel what she felt, and it felt horrible. However - the light at the end of the tunnel - not wanting to die when she had the chance to live - that was also a nice little twist. I think its obvious the demon didn't want to kill her if it could just continue sucking up her despair and self-hatred, but it seems like it might have made a mistake in letting her go while she was still in its clutches. She had time to think, yes, about everything she's done wrong lately - but she also had time to realize that she's not ready to give up just yet. I like it! :) I'm pretty confident that Miroku can take care of himself if/when he and Kirara make it to the demon's lair, so it will be interesting to see if Sango can do the same. This was definitely worth the wait, and I am on the edge of my seat for the next installment!!

Sango's determination to handle this herself has landed her in serious trouble. Seeing Miroku seriously angry is so rare and actually refreshing. He is usually always the calm one no matter what. We know his anger is out of love and concern for Sango. I can't wait to see what caused the retreat for the demon and just who was that calling out to Sango? Enjoyed this as always and great work!
