I cried reading it. It was like you were writing my thought's out, the words I could not say that kept burried in my mind. Something like the story you wrote happen to me about 3 years ago, and it still hounts me untill now like a shadow. Reading it made me feel a bit released from the burden of guilt and shame. THANK YOU !!!
Keep up writing you have talent and you have the heart. | Reviewed By: Icebreaker lily On: December 15, 2002 17:58 CST Rating(s):Overall Rating: 10 of 10 Comment/Review: I never thougth someone would use a GW fic to talk so real... I had knots in my throat while reading: I was touched by those true words but you did more important with this: you said the important words *survive* and the *right to be angry*; to choose not to stay a victim all your life... True heros are not only on a battlefield: they're in real life, fighting everyday to live on, to reconstruct themselves.
In my home country like in all the other I guess, the usual reaction is "she/he searched for it" or "liar" if the victim is too young to fit to the first comment and I don't think I go too far if I say that.
A friend of my school was raped, she went to the police, justice waited some time before charging the man. After the trial, the bastard wasn't even jailed caus' lack of proof; they said. WHAT? She should have died that day to be considered as a victim? "She souldn't have go out alone" that's the comment I heard the most back then... It wasn't someone of the outside but a person she knew well who raped her. Someone she trusted...
For infos if someone is recognized guilty of rape, he'll spent 1 or 2 years in jail (with the "sursis" -sorry don't know the word in English for this- or the good behavior stuff) that's the usual... 1 or 2 years for destroying a life and after he can go out and do it again. Now tell me how in a supposed evoluated society, it can still be tolerated? If you stole money you can go in jail for 10 fu**ing years. For rape or abuse, you can be released immediatly WHEN there is a trial, most of the time there isn't any...
I feel horrible, weak, angry, disgusted, powerless when I know what's happening...
In the past I supported my friend the best I could...
For the innocent who wanted an happy ending, I tell them to wake up: this is reality, even if you like anime(yaoi or not)that doesn't mean you have to ignore the TRUTH.
THANK YOU for this fic. | Reviewed By: Timber Wolf [MediaMiner Member] On: December 15, 2002 15:31 CST Comment/Review: I don't know what to say...
Your views are very appropriate and this deserves nothing but praise. You're a terrific author.
There are a lot of ridiculous legal technicalities out there compounded by the fact that the majority really don't give a damn.
The way the police handled Q's was disgraceful! I mean the way that detective lied to him! That shouldn't be allowed and there are places where it's not but the detective get's away with it anyway! But then that's typical of most rape cases I mean how the HELL can anyone bounce back after "Are you sure you're not making this up?" Ridiculous!
Those who asked about the 'Happy ending' should wake and smell the coffee!
I agree with you that people need to be open and understanding and that they need to actually DO something...
- 1 in 4 women aged 18-24 will be raped.
- 1 in 6 men will be raped or sexually abused in their lifetime.
- More than 1 in 3 women will be raped at some point in their lifetime.
- About 1 in 7 women have experienced rape or attempted rape by a spouse.
- Only 27% of women whose sexual assault met the legal definition of rape considered their experience rape.
- Less than 1 in 10 women who are raped will report it. The statistics are far less for men.
- Less than 5% of rapes are falsely reported or lied about, which is about the same as all other violent crimes.
- 1 in every 12 men admitted to committing acts that meet the legal definitions of rape (in one study).
- In 75% of rapes, either the perpetrator, the victim, or both are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol during the incident.
- 43% of 'college-aged' men admitted to using coercive behavior to have sex, including physical aggression to force intercourse.
- Most rapes occur at home.
- Close to 3/4 of all rapes are planned.
- 72% of rapes/sexual assaults are not reported to the police. Those rapists, of course, never serve a day in prison. [ 1999 NCVS ]
- If the rape is reported to police, there is a 50.8% chance that an arrest will be made.
- If an arrest is made, there is an 80% chance of prosecution.
- If there is a prosecution, there is a 58% chance of a felony conviction.
- If there is a felony conviction, there is a 69% chance the convict will spend time in jail.
- So, even in those 28% of rapes that are reported to police, there is only a 16.3% chance the rapist will end up in prison.
- Factoring in unreported rapes, about 5%—one out of twenty— of rapists will ever spend a day in jail. 19 out of 20 will walk free.
I could only nod when I read this it is as you say the cold reality.
I could not possibly understand how people in that position, I can only try even though I don't succeed.
You showed the truth and I was angry when I read this and appalled that this sort of goes on. I never felt such anger except about the issues of bigotry and intolerence but yes this has sparked an important issue and it has sparked a LOT of anger in me!
More then 70% of sex crimes are never reported to the police, for fear of embarrassment and not being believed. When crimes are reported, 43% of these cases are dismissed by police because of the lack of evidence. The most damaging words you could ever hear from someone you have just told about your rape are "are you sure you didn’t just imagine this?" No one hears that and bounces back.
I wonder how anyone can possibly ask that!?
Bleeding on the Inside really touched me in ways I could never have imagined possible. It has brought up so many things, so many important things.
I don't really what to say other then that I admire your courage about something based on your personal experience and in sharing your anger and grief and in surviving such a ordeal I can only say this you have my utmost respect and admiration that's really all I can I say.

I am deeply offended by that ridiculous law about the victim confronting or whatever...
But then there is a similar in other countries like Greece for example...
The police's attitude offends me that detective LIED to Quatre and he was allowed to get away with it, it even happens in places where it shouldn't and they still get away with it! He and the rest of the cops didn't give a shit! But then that happens all the time! A lot of times I think the police are a LOT worse then the criminals!
People like that should be shot!!!

Like you said these are cold realities and are quite sadly...true.

I know I can't and the rapist gets off scott free.
What use is the law? What use is the fucking law!? I mean there should be more then the letter of the law? There are people who commit violent crimes against someone including rape, murder and grevious bodily and still get off scott free!
It really makes me angry!
I really don't know what else to say other then that I feel for you and I feel for others for your position. I try to understand how people in that position feel, but I can't say I do but I can always try even if I don't succeed.
I mean the law and the so-called 'law enforcement's agencies' attitudes are disgraceful.
The fact that anyone gets off scott free for it is a disgrace!
That's all I have to say...never have I read such a story with such a passionate and eloquent statement. I am impressed and few things have ever touched me as deeply as this.

At least you have in my eyes. As for your fans that have been asking about the "happy ending," I have to say they need to grow up and a face the facts. As for what you've decided to have the last chapter of this story be good for you I'm glad your ending it that way. You have full right its not right to show the little happily ever after bit when only lik 4.5% of these people ever do end up with justice. I admire the sentiment conatined within
Anger is one way to deal with things like this
However the reaction to such an experience is much dependant on the individual Victim, much dependant on the individual situation...
Some people chose to deal with it by getting angry; some people actually have the guts to go through the stupid fricking confrontation process and drag up all the disgusting feelings inside of them again; and then there are the people who withdraw from intimate contact, chosing to deal with it by attempting to never put themselves in that position again.
There are more ways to deal...those more painful and those more final.
Although it seems fair to blame the law... I come from a legal background and it is those people who slam rape suits on ex-lovers because of jealousy or revenge, that have made it the trial in hell it is for actual victims.
The cruel and harsh reality of the whole thing is that unless you can prove a person is guilty they will run free, purely because of the damage that could be done to them if the claimant is lying.
I know it doesnt make it any better, and it doesnt help those people who would prefer to curl into a ball and die because of what was taken from them. Trust is gone, and there is always that lingering doubt in oneself.
But its the way things are... I commend you on your courage to open people's eyes to the harsh reality.
