Elena Arai, a girl born into a small family around the time of the Tokugawa shogunate.
wants to become a samurai when her mother tries to protect her from the men that held them captive.
After the death of her mother, who became ill after their escape, she is found by Hiko seijuro a samurai who wields the hiten mitsurugi Ryu swordsmanship.

She begs him that he teach her the style of the hiten so that she can avenge her parents.
He teaches her not because of her goal, but because of her determination and strength.

This is during the end of the tokugawa regime heading straight into the meiji era.

She is now sixteen, completly capable of using the hiten mitusurgi technique. She created some havoc during the ends of the bakumatsu killing off many samurai that works for the imperialists.

She meets kenshin and his comapanions, immediatly hating them for kenshins morales and they way of living.
But Kenshin tries to help her, but being an imperialist he knows that she wants to kill him.

In a fight to show elena the better ways of life, kenshin and friends take her in and help her fight against the men that killed her parents and the men connected to him.
