With the completion of the jewel, Kikyou returns to assist in its purification. But when a horde of demons attacks; Inuyasha will make the ultimate sacrifice to protect the ones he loves. When the repercussions begin to slowly warp him into a bloodthirsty beast, Kagome seeks an answer in an ancient spell created and forbidden by Midoriko herself. But the consequences were beyond what anyone could have ever imagined.
Fifty years have passed and the Tetsussaiga still lays buried in the heart of the Goshinboku, sealed along with Kagome and Inuyasha at the completion of the spell. But when a figure from the past accidentally releases the seal Inuyasha and Kagome are returned to the world. Suffering from complete amnesia and knowing only their names, they set out on a new quest to reclaim their former selves.
With their souls already bound for eternity by the spell will they be able to overcome their differences once more and find each other? Can they somehow answer the threat that even the mighty Inu no Taisho is ambivalent to face? And how on earth have Sango and Miroku not aged a day since the casting of the spell? With many unanswered questions begins another story: The Protector's Heart.
Note: This continuation is Inu/Kag, beginning the moment after Naraku's death. All events leading up to where this story begins are cannon, with the exception of Kikyou who somehow survived her 'death'.
