Feeling inadequate and misplaced they envy each others roles. Bill the scholar, forced to be the champion of an empire he can't protect; and Tom the player at heart who is expected to play the political role for a nation he doesn't understand.
On the eve of their coronation they are gifted with two silent wives, married on the spot for political reasons and without their knowledge; but perhaps their brides will give them the courage and the wisdom to do what must be done.
