And then we have masterpiece number two, otherwise known as part two. How much difference one little word can make, indeed, and how good Kagome had to have been at hiding her pain all those years for him to have never known of her suffering. I like your take on how Kaou could not fully read minds, he was only an empath in part and therefore guessed as to the reason for Inuyasha's pain. He was right of course, that Kikyou was a big part of it, though Inuyasha was feeling more guilty for Kikyou's unfair lot in life and hating himself that he couldn't save her from Naraku again than truly losing the woman he loved. I guess we'll never know if Kaou had known of Inuyasha's feelings for Kagome and left that word out on purpose to hurt Kagome too, although that would be my guess. Twisting two knives for the price of one. I always figured, canon-wise, when I read that line in the Kaou arc, that he'd just said it on purpose to hurt them. But I had gotten over the words, forgetting about them as time went on, unlike Kagome. Thank the kami Kaede finally got her to talk about it, and while Inuyasha was within earshot. Keeping such a secret, Kagome should have realized Inuyasha might be nearby and to be careful, though then again I can also see his point that she should have realized not to listen to an enemy. Still, the heart is a powerful thing, and human emotions are seldom rational. Finally she needed to talk about it, so the important thing is that now she can stop hurting and start healing, in more ways than one. Once again, beautifully done!
