"The Art of the Mary Sue" Reviews/Comments [ 8 ]

I love this fic. You hit upon every single aspect of the Mary-Sue from the main-character-falls-in-love-the-instant-they-meet to the standard Kuwabara bashing that goes with it (poor Kuwa-chan; he just can't catch a break, can he?). Not only that, but you also managed to present it in the literary style most Mary-Sue authors write in, glorifying their OC to the point where you get sick of them. Great job ^^!

Well, I didn't read your story, but I did read the author's note at the begining of chapter one. And I just have to say: THANK YOU! Heh heh, so right you are! If I see OC in a fic summary I will NOT touch it. *yawn* Well, it's like 2:12 AM and I better go to sleep before my eyeballs start bleeding... O.o Later! E-mail me sometime! We'd get along great! ^^

a mary-sue (or marty-stu) is the creation of the creator to be the most perfect being (excels in academics, is loved by all, listened to by all, is extremely beautiful, gets the heart of either the main character(s), always has the worst past and everyone remorses for them, greatest fighter, la de da, etc. etc., most of all, practically godly!). most of all, every character (original or mary-sue) would always be the self-insertion of an author. They would either have the perfect life the author always wanted or have tidbits of the author's self in RL. i could go on but i'm short on time, lol um, hehe ^_^;

Ummm...nobody kill me, but I'm not really sure what a Mary-Sue or a Marty-Stu is. Is it like a self-insertation, only abnormally perfect?

The perfect Marty-Stu, as well! I haven't run into a lot of them, but the ones I *have* seen were shameless. S-class demon, a "backround" that makes little to no sense, mysterious, beating people that nobody else can beat, ect... Seriously, Marty-Stu authors don't seem to even understand the concept of a Marty-Stu, and therefore don't even bother to not make their character perfect. Bleah. You had me laughing the entire time.

ah the perfect marry-sue! cool... I like it, the whole parring is very predictable. but I guess that's what makes it a marry-sue or whatever it's called.

*cracks up* That's great! She was perfect, wore revealing clothing, was *somehow* a forbidden child, Hiei fell in love with her instantly, Kurama was WAAAAY out of character, and she contradicted herself! Buahaha! The perfect Mary-Sue, ne? Oh, by the way. The little-known but generally accepted term for the male version is Marty-Stu.
