Title: Deep Sea Dolphin [ Anime/Manga :: Slayers ] By: parron
Uploaded On: Sep 19 9:34:41 2003
Charcters: Deep Sea Dolphin
Description: About what the title says, this is what I think Deep Sea Dolphin looks like (or should look like, :P). It goes with one of my fics on ff.net. First attempt at photoshop colouring, but I think it turned out well, esp. the light effects.

The overall pic isn't bad, but I agree that you do something about the outlines. Also, there's a designated look of Deep Sea Dolphin on a manga scan. This looks nothing like her, but it's a nice take. Good work.

Love the color scheme, I am a big fan of blues. For the spray of water I would avoid dark outlines...try and go with something pale. Or no outline at all. It takes a bit of practice but I think you could nail it. I really like the girl, she is cute. Good job for your first attempt!

Interesting take on Deep Sea Dolphin! It's not the look I personally had pictured, but it's neat all the same. :) The color scheme for this pic is great - it fits the theme and character perfectly. The dolphin looks a bit disproportionate - do a Google search for pics of jumping dolphins and you'll see what I mean. The glass effect for the water in the background was a neat idea, but it should be kept more consistent with the rest of the background - the black outline and the matte contrast kind of clash and upset the balance. Also, the cel-style shading was a good idea, but work on bringing the edges to a smoother and finer point - leaving them all rounded makes the picture end up looking more flat rather than more lively. (I know, this is a big reason I gave up cel-style shading. ^_^; ) Keep up the good effort!

I concur great color scheme. My biggest gripe about this is the outlining of certian things the water spray shouldn't have the out line around. That would help with the aspect of it being water and of it just hanging out. Looks like it is caught in a net or something. Other then that it's a nicely done piece of work.

Its very good for a first attmept. I do wonder though did you use layers when making the image. I see a lot of breakes where the parts of the image meet so i kinda wondered? I like your use the the glass filter to make the shimmer in the water. The girl is a very cute character. I would suggest you reduce the size of the pix when you save it for the web. It will also cut down on the pixelation I see in places. It would be nice to view the full size image without scrolling. Fanilia

The color scheme you used in this is really good. It all flows nicely. My big criticism is on the dolphin. Dolphins bodies are very sleek and smooth and longer than what you drew it here. I'd lengthen the body to where the tail ends about level with her knee and fatten the body at the head, and having it narrow down towards the tail. Your best bet is finding a picture of a dolphin and working from observation. I like the overall concept of the pic though. The girl overall is well drawn. I'd make the hilights in the hair a little lighter though (just for that extra shine). My favorite part is the background. I don't know what kind of filter you used, but it turned out pretty good. Overall well done. ^_^
