This is a nice portrait - it's great to see portraits that aren't direct, inch-by-inch copies of a screen grab or photo, like many artists are fond of. Your pencil work on this is really nice; I can see that you have a good handle on the concepts of highlighting and shading with pencil and that you are able to place important features prominently while minimizing less important pieces of the work. One suggestion I would have is to go lighter with your initial line art so that you can blend it more easily; areas like the edges of his lips and the lines in his nose don't actually exist as hard lines but rather blend into the skin next to them. You can achieve the same look by starting with very, very light line art, so that it's barely there, and then building up the skin tones around it. The line art will disappear entirely, and your edges will blend more naturally. Also, part of the reason his hair looks choppy to some is because it's sectioned off, but his dreads aren't readily noticeable. It's kind of a pain, but I know from experience that drawing Jack usually means defining at least some of the dreads individually, and then having the line art for the others in place so that you can integrate them more naturally with his loose hair. It still gives off the fullness of his hair without making it seem choppy and sectioned off. Overall, this is a wonderful portrait! Keep up the great work. :)

Most definately is Jack - you did nice work with the lights and darks of this drawing. the eyes and nose are very well drawn. My only suggestion (since I have trouble with it myself) is the hair, I can see that you did the hair in sections. The pencil lines do not blend from one section to the next giving the picture a choppy look. And actually if it wasn't one of the things I work on myself, I don't think I'd have noticed it. I really like how you cut off the head, some artists (and photographers) think you must include the entire bust in a portrait - sometimes leaving things out adds interest and balance to a picture. Overall you did very nice work.~Fanilia

The nose looks really nicely drawn as well as his facial hair. What you could do to improve is to focus on the anatomy of hands in general, along with fingers. With how his hand is drawn, it can be tricky. The shading job is okay, but like I said about the nose, is excellent for the level you are drawing. The eyes are also really good, especially the iris/pupils itself. Very dialated. As for the hair, you don't really need to draw each line individually, but I think I'll leave that part to others for review because I'm not too sure on it.. Lastly, the headband could use more definition, but I really love the beads, they look really spiffy. Overall, I think it took you a awhile to draw it and it shows. Nice job!
