Artist's Commentary A rather odd peice of work on my part. Once again the main protagonist from my current juant in the world of fictional novel writing. This pic came to be largly because of the previous incarnation in this same gallery, and the fact that I grew to despise it... This pic embodies everything that pic was, and pushes the bar even further. In my mind the overall improvement was staggering. One of the main ones being the anatomy of the shoulders and back of the character, which were far to square and flat in the previous pic. They were also built up in overall muscle tone to further highlight the characters warrior nature. I wanted her to appear strong, whilst keeping a feminine sleekness about her figure. As for the choice of colors, the grayscale tones were chosen to acheive a dual objective. One being to further build upon my still relatively novice skill-level in shade and highlights. Eliminating the factors involved in contrasting skin and fabric colors. And secondly to simply make the pic more bold, much in the same way as seen in "Sin City". As for the pic's downfalls, I think I overdid it a bit on the spattering effect. Originally she was intended to be literally dripping. Though as I went about adding the fluids, I slowly, after about the 13th layer or so, realized that doing so would also gradually sacrifice more and more of the initial detail of the character herself. So I minimized the "splatterage" to the front of her figure. Oddly enough, in doing so I think I managed to keep her sarashi (the traditional tight linen wraps worn by Japanese women), and it's seemingly unusual level cleanliness, of as the pic's focal point. If not in an abstract way. |
