Fates Changed
I don't own the Alien franchise… if I did Newt and Hicks would still be alive throughout the chronicle!

Chapter 3: A little distraction from the horror
The soldiers had finished walking perimeter and everything seemed quiet, they had separated a while later and Alex was left wondering what to do now, she decided to go find her best friend. She walked into the medical area and to the locker room where she saw her old friend polishing her weapon. She slapped Vasquez's shoulder in a friendly way and pulled herself up on a bar, giving her a competitive look. Vasquez got the message and joined her, “Think you can beat me at this Hermana?” Vasquez taunted jokingly, flexing her muscles as she positioned herself on the bar, Alex grinned smugly,
“We'll see who comes on top!” she called back and they both began a competitive pull up game. So far they were evenly matched until Alex gasped and collapse after she felt someone tickle her sides from behind in a spot few knew about, she fell into the arms of her laughing brother, “Dwayne! I was beating her!!” she complained, crossing her arms but making no move to get off him
“Surrrre…” Hicks taunted playfully and laughed more at the scowl on his sister's face. When he saw she was making no move to get up he picked her up and sat her on the floor, she scowled again,
“I was comfortable…” she muttered and looked at Vasquez, “If this ass of a bone-head here hadn't interrupted I'd have beaten you.” She said in a matter of fact tone, Vasquez knew her friend was very well capable of keeping up or even going beyond her but decided to tease her just for the hell of it,
“Shit, you keep telling yourself that chica, you know I had you.” Vasquez commented with a smirk, then she slapped the male Hick's arm, “But you shouldn't have interrupted!” she scolded and continued polishing her weapon. He grinned at the women, shrugged and walked off to continue his patrol of the halls after ruffling his sister's well groomed hair and earning a grunt and a swipe of her hand. This little teasing and playing around seemed to be the only kind of relaxation they got lately; with the threat of the aliens attacking them at any moment it was necessary to have some healthy distractions. Ripley would not have approved but Hicks thought it would raise morals so he didn't think on it too much.
”Well… come on, let's go see if those little bastards reached the turrets again.” Alex suggested and they met up with Hicks and Hudson that were already there. The lieutenant was awake and standing near by, Alex saluted him; he saluted back weakly and was just happy to have more help with them so he didn't question her. They got a transmission from Bishop and where elated when they learned the drop ship was on the way. Alex watched Burke a while, he had turned off a monitor, he saw her staring at him and stampered,
“The uh monitor must be having trouble, nothing but static.” He said, Alex frowned slightly but was too preoccupied with watching the radar then what she thought was his lame attempts at conversation. When the fire alarms rang from the medical area where Ripley and Newt where Alex looked to Burke and saw that the room they were in was the camera that he shut off, he glared at him but didn't say anything as they all rushed to the people in danger, she had a suspicion... When they reached the medical area they saw a horrible sight, Alex didn't exactly know what was happening but the others knew all too well. Hicks ordered them to shoot the glass and he crashed into them. Alex was shocked to see the parasites Ripley and her brother told her about and she helped Vasquez pull the creature from around Ripley's neck.
It turned out Burke was responsible for this and Alex wanted him dead just as much as the others and was readying her weapon to blow his brains out when Ripley objected and the lights cut out. She now knew the aliens had some form of sophisticated intelligence and quickly learned not to underestimate them. They all rushed out of the room, they scouted the halls and a little later Hudson reported a large reading on his radar, they all went into a room and sealed the door. The creatures where coming, the strange thing was they were coming fast and had passed the point of the barricade but they still saw nothing. That's when they looked up at the ceiling, this was NOT good, she grabbed her custom made, pump action double barreled shot gun from her strap on her back and loaded it quickly, pointing at the ceiling where her brother was checking their situation out. She did NOT like that fact that he was risking his life to confirm what was obvious but kept silent.
Hicks let out a cry of surprise and shot at the ceiling, that's when she finally saw the creatures she heard so much about, they were odd looking but to her they looked rather silly… in any case she knew not to take it easy with them and began firing repeatedly. She was surprised at the slow reaction from the creatures as she killed them off quickly. When she ran out of ammo and reloaded Hudson quickly came to her side and finished her work, he continued to shoot and taunt. That's when she saw a floor tile open, she had finished loading and grabbed Hudson, sending him crashing toward the opposite wall, she raised her shot gun and blasted the alien's head apart, running from the acid that sprayed. Unfortunately a bit of the acid fell on her already injured shoulder and she screamed in agony, the pain fueling her anger as she continually fired relentlessly at the now scarce creatures.
Ripley and Gorman were trying to get the door near by open where Burke had gone in and locked. Hicks fried the door locking mechanism and they got through, they rushed in and didn't hear Burke get attacked by Aliens near by, they were too worried about saving their own asses, Vasquez sealed the door and they looked for a way out, Newt led them to an air duct, they knew it could be crawling with the aliens (A/N: No pun intended) but decided they where in deep shit already so it wouldn't hurt… that is unless they got attacked by the creatures, that would hurt but that was besides the point. Newt led them through the tunnels and found the way back to the drop ship. Alex noticed Vasquez and Gorman were not with them and set out through the tunnels again, “ALEX!” Hicks called but knew she was on a mission and anxiously waited with Ripley and Newt.
