Breathe Again
~Chapter 11: Love/Hate~
“I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?
I hate everything about you
Why do I love you?”
Katara's breath caught in her throat at the ghost of a kiss and the soft whisper of his voice; did he know what he did to her? What he HAD done to her? She let out the restrained air free slowly as she heard his foot steps grow softer with distance, only when silence gripped the still air did her hand make its way up to her forehead. Was he being sincere? Or had he known she was awake and was just toying with her?

“So you're the Avatar, huh shrimpy?” Akai asked as she led them into the village, Aang nodded but didn't answer. Sokka glanced at the Fire Nation girl warily, “Is it just me or are there no men in this village?” He asked, she grinned, “Very astute of you, there are no men in this village other than the ones in this group. We usually only have men in while trading goods and having `fun' but they're usually outsiders not people that live in the village. And no Iroh you're not an outsider…” The old general pouted slightly, “Akai… I don't mean to change the subject but is SHE here?”
The girl glanced at the old man and nodded knowingly, “I'll take you to her later, the rest of you head for that large house over there. It's mine, just tell the girls there that you're friends of Iroh and Akai.” Aang nodded leading Appa with him as they followed Akai's instructions and headed for her home.
“Here's her home, I'll be off getting clean since I smell, meet me back at my home when your done here.” She said patting him on the shoulder gently before leaving him there on the threshold of the door. Iroh rapped upon the small but sturdy door gently, he smiled and folded his arms up in his sleeves as he heard movement from the other side. His smile widened as a familiar face appeared from the darkness of the house, “It's been far too long… May I come in and talk?” He asked, the woman nodded with a smile of her own as she allowed him into her home.
~An hour later~
“….How long are they gonna take?!” Sokka growled in exasperation, he jumped slightly as the door behind him was suddenly thrown open. The small group stared in surprise at the now cleaned and prettier Akai, “We'll take as long as we want Ponytail,” She stated flatly, “What's the rush anyway?” She asked flopping down between Sokka and Toph. “Or ya know what? Before you even open that big mouth of yours ponytail, how about some introductions? I know who the Avatar is but who are you two and who was the big tall dork with that fur ball?”
“The `dork' was the Earth King and the Fur Ball is his pet bear Bosco, and I am…” Sokka frowned slightly as Toph suddenly sat up sending Momo flying, “The names Toph, nickname the Blind Bandit… I am the greatest Earthbender alive!” Akai arched a slender eyebrow in surprise, “Oh really? You'll have to spar with me sometime, I love a good fight. And you, ponytail?” She asked glancing at Sokka, “Oh, me? Just a guy with a boomerang… Now can we tell you about our problem?”
She nodded, “Yeah sure knock yourself out, cutie.” Blushing slightly Sokka began to explain the events that had just recently unfolded in the earth kingdom, once he mentioned Zuko's name silenced him with a dangerous glare. “Wait… Zuko is siding with Azula?” She asked slowly, Sokka nodded. “Yes and they've got my sister and the Earth Kingdom… We have to stop them!” The girl was frowning, her pretty face darkened with worry. “…. We'll help you, and you need to come with me, there's someone here that would probably like to see you.”

Zuko sat on the edge of his bed staring at his reflection, his face was pale and he looked as tired as he felt. But even with his fatigue the Prince knew that sleep was futile nonsense with the current guilt that was weighing upon his heart and mind. Getting up quietly he stole towards the sleeping form of his torment in the nearby room, he watched her for several minutes from the doorway before continuing towards her slowly.
He shivered as a cool breeze blew into the room from the courtyard through the large open doors; he closed them as silently as he could before glancing back towards the futon behind him. “…. Do you know how much grief you're putting me through? Well, I guess it's only fair after what I did to you…” He whispered kneeling next to her sleeping form once again and resting his head on his arms as he leaned against the futon watching her peaceful expression as she slept. At this point he could care less about what she would do to him in the morning when she awoke to see his ugly mug by her side, “Maybe she can put me out of this misery…” He muttered with a sardonic chuckle as his eyelids became heavy with the need for sleep…
