Avatar The Last Airbender Fan Fiction ❯ Doppelganger ❯ Cal ( Chapter 10 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Sorry about the delay for this. It was a fun chapter to write. Cal is a fun character to write. Fun, but difficult. This chapter was by far the most difficult. Mainly for the thing of with this rating system. My thinking is, the human being is capable of more horrible and morally inhumane things that one can imagine. And some people just can't accept that. So I had to try and steer clear of anything really horrible. Ah well. Cal is still a fun character. Hahaha Onii-chan! Haha.

. . .

“My name is Cal! Nice to meet'cha!” The blonde-haired girl chimed, waving her hand around in front of her. She had too much energy for so early in the morning. Everybody in the room visibly relaxed, setting down their weapons and resting their arms. Everybody, except for Kyle; who still sat on the ground, lost for words. Cal looked down at Kyle, still beaming. “What'cha doin' down there, Onii-chan?” She grabbed his hand, and pulled him too his feet with a quick jerk. “There we go!” She brushed off Kyle's shirt and pants with hard pats.

Kyle found his voice and reeled back from the girl. “Cal! Wh-what are you doing here?” Cal snickered and put her hands behind her head.

“I was told to find you.” Everybody tensed again. Kyle sighed and held his head in his hands, mumbling a curse. Katara inched forward.

“Who told you to find him?” Kyle answered before Cal.

“Victoria.” Cal smiled and nodded vigorously. Kyle held his head up and gestured towards the girl. “She is one of Victoria's.” Sokka redrew his weapon, followed by Aang. Cal kept smiling and held up her hands.

“Whoa whoa hey don't worry, I won't snitch on my Onii-chan.” She stepped close to Kyle and rubbed her head against his arm happily. “Onii-chan!” Katara frowned and crossed her arms over her chest. Onii-chan? Kyle sighed and pushed Cal away gently.

“Cal, please. Not right now.” Cal's smile faded and she stepped away.

“Hai, Onii-chan.”

“Now… what are you doing here?” Cal took a slow breath.

“Victoria told me to find Onii-chan; and then kill him.” Kyle sighed and sat back against the wall.

“Figures.” He caught the worried glances of his companions. “Like she said, don't worry. She won't tell anyone. If I know anything about Cal, here… it's that she is no liar.” Cal's wide smile returned and she nodded.

“Yep yep!” Everybody relaxed again and took seats around the house.

“So… you're a vampire, too?” Aang asked Cal; who nodded and grinned, showing her dainty fangs. Aang flinched and edged away slightly. Katara cleared her throat.

“Who are you exactly, Cal?” The little vampire faced Katara, still smiling.

“I'm the fourth creation of Victoria, as well as Onii-chan's former lover and student.” Even Aang could feel the icy chill that enveloped the room. Katara clenched her teeth unknowingly and her knuckles turned white. Student? Lover? Sokka coughed quietly, but still gaining attention.

“I didn't know you went for the young ones, fang boy.” He said, holding in a snicker. Cal cocked her head curiously, then turned to Kyle.

“Young? Is two-hundred and eleven young, Onii-chan?” Sokka humbled himself and sat back in his chair. Kyle smiled and chuckled to himself. Aang wisely kept silent. Did this mean another vampire was joining them?

“So…” Katara bit off. “How did the two of you meet? I don't think Kyle would have willingly gone back to Victoria to meet you.” Cal nodded quickly.

“That's true. Onii-chan hates Victoria. He hates her more than I hate-“

“Cal.” Kyle interrupted. Cal stopped and looked up at Kyle with wide eyes.

“Hai, Onii-chan?”

“I'll tell them, do you mind?” She shook her head, her blond hair whipping from side to side.

“No, please do.” She said and sat down, leaning against Kyle, her eyes closed. Kyle let out a breath and leaned his head back.

“Kuso…” He whispered and held his head up again. “Heh… I bet you have a couple of questions, huh?” He saw Katara's piercing glare and felt a tiny glimmer of fear. I better tread lightly. “Well first off, yes, she's Victoria's fourth creation. I met her a while after Ellen died. After I left Ba Sing Se, I traveled up to the north pole in hopes of finding a waterbending teacher.” He caught himself and held up his hand, remembering his reason. “After learning firebending and earthbending, I decided to try and learn all four elements. It may sound selfish of me, but if I could use that power to defend people, instead of kill them,” He glanced down at Cal. “I felt that would curb my selfishness.”

He frowned and sat back against the wall, Cal leaning soundly against him. “When I got there, though, I didn't find a teacher. I found Cal.”

. . .

“No… please… no more…” The little girl sobbed. She was stripped of all clothing, covered in blood, and her arms attached above her head to the bloodstained wall of ice behind her. “Please…” She cried to the people across the room. The men conversed amongst themselves, then turned back the girl.

“Well then, shall we commence?” The leader stepped forward, a good distance away from the restrained girl, and spaced his legs apart. “What was the last test?” One of the other men stepped forward.

“A full speed ice spike at three meters.” The leader nodded and crouched into a waterbending stance.

“Take note.” He remarked and circled his arm forward. A spike of ice shot out of the wall behind him and pierced the girl through the stomach. She let out a pained scream as the spike came out behind her and stuck into the wall. The men behind the leader carefully watched her reaction. The girl trembled and quietly sobbed.

“Please…take it out… it hurts so much.” She pleaded her tormenters. “I didn't do anything!” The men paid no attention.

“Next is five meters.”

Suddenly, the leader crumpled in a bloody heap. He screamed as he fell, alerting the entire group of imminent danger. Half a dozen waterbenders surrounded the intruder who had appeared between them and their prisoner.

“Who are you?” The next officer demanded. The intruder sheathed his sword and scoffed.

“Tormenting a starved vampire… that makes you even more inhuman that we are.” He remarked and held his hands out in front of him. “I will treat you as inhuman, in turn.” Faster than the waterbenders could react, he reached the first man and slammed his palm into his nose, caving his face in; the waterbender fell instantly. The others jumped to their fallen comrade's aid and each sent a whip of water at the vampire. Drawing both of his knives, the vampire sliced through two whips, and ducked under the rest. Crouched low to the ground, he threw one of his knives into one of the guard's forehead, and then drew his sword with one hand. The remaining waterbenders moved with one motion and numerous frozen needle-like projectiles shot from the walls aiming for the vampire.

The vampire gave a quick cry and the air around him went up in flames, instantly melting the ice needles shot at him.

“He's a firebender!” The waterbenders yelled and tried to surround him with their remaining forces. The vampire twirled the knife in his hand, so the blade was facing the inside of his arm.

“What are you gonna do about it?” He growled and expelled a plume of flame out of his mouth, hitting a guard in the chest. He screamed in pain as he went down.

The little vampire attached to the wall watched the one-sided fight through one eye. Has… has someone come to save me? Who… She distantly heard the dying screams of her tormentors and felt a swell of happiness and relief. They were dying painful deaths, at the hands of a fellow vampire. They are the only ones I can trust after all… The reek of blood in the cold air made her head spin. Tears fell down her cheek again. The waterbenders had starved her for an untold number of weeks. She was so hungry. She refocused her eyes to the battle before her and saw the vampire rip off an arm from the man who had repeatedly assaulted her nearly every night. Smiling slightly, she felt the sharp pain in her lip of the fang digging into her flesh. Serves him right.

Her sight lost its focus again and her head fell back down against her bloodied chest. After an unknown amount of time, she felt gently hands tapping her shoulder. The blur of sounds found their way into her consciousness.

“I suppose the question, `Are you alright?' would be redundant. So I'll just get you out of here before more guards come.” She lifted her head with some difficulty and saw her savior melt the ice keeping her stuck to the wall. Her limp, numb arms fell to the ground and she cried at the sudden pain at the change in position of her arms. “Yea, sorry about that.” He carefully helped her up and, taking off his jacket, covered her with it. “You look like shit. Here, take what you need and then we'll go.” The girl crumpled to her knees in front of the bodies of the men who had kept her prisoner. She looked back at her savior. He nodded and pressed close to the wall, peering out the room. “Hurry.”

Her eyes fell down to the massacre in front of her. The smell was driving her mad. She fell to her knees and sunk her teeth into the closest groaning body. A warm rush of liquid poured into her mouth and down her throat. Instantly she felt her strength starting to return. After the blood thinned out, she lifted her mouth to see the next body. She heard his name was `Mansel'. The girl gritted her teeth. She clearly remembered him. She could never understand pedophiles, or what they actually though about, but she was now free. She stood up and glared down at the man below her. He had one of his arms ripped off, his breathing was quick and shallow.

“You're lucky.” She whispered coolly down to the man. “You will live. But I will be the last thing you ever see.” The girl bent down and shove her fingers into his eye sockets. The waterbender screamed and thrashed around with his remaining limbs. The little vampire stood back up and nodded to her savior. “Alright, lets go.”

. . .

Katara felt bile rise to her throat. She felt very sick. How could humans be so cruel? She glanced at Aang and Sokka; they looked just like she did, haunted and disturbed. The waterbender stole a glance at Cal. She still had her eyes shut, and a peaceful look on her face. Was she asleep? She felt her stomach freeze. If waterbenders did that to her, how would she react to me? Swallowing her sudden fear, Katara cleared her throat.

“So… what happened after that?” Kyle absentmindedly, or seemingly so, started to stroke Cal's hair. Cal's smile widened and she let out a noise that sounded suspiciously like a purr. Katara ignored the display and examined her hand in an attempt to distract herself.

“Well, escaped the North Pole and went south until we felt we were safe.”

. . .

“So… Cal, right?” Kyle started, watching the girl scrub her skin clean in a stream. “How did you find yourself captured by waterbenders?” Cal squeezed her hair, letting light red liquid fall into the water.

“I was up north, and… they just surrounded my boat and captured me.” She answered, facing away from Kyle. The older vampire held his chin in his hands.

“They just captured you? How old are you? You must not be that old, to be captured by a few waterbenders.” Cal carefully straitened her hair and turned back around.

“Well, it wasn't just a few. It was at least ten. And I'm forty, just so you know. So I guess you are right, I am pretty young, compared to other vampires at least. How old are you?” Kyle counted on his fingers silently.

“I think… about… one hundred and fifty?” He counted again. “Well… that sounds close enough I guess.” Cal's eyes widened in adoration.

“Wow… you must be strong!” Kyle smiled and put his hand behind his head.

“Hehe… well, yea.”

“Yea! You must be as strong as Victoria!” Kyle moved in a flash. He dashed towards Cal and snatched her by the throat. Cal gasped in surprise and her arms flew to her defense, trying to pull his hand away.

“How do you know Victoria?” Kyle yelled in rage. “Who are you?” Cal clamped her eyes shut and turned her head away.

“I'm sorry! Don't hurt me, please!” Kyle blinked and gently set the scared girl down.

“I…I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me.” Cal sat in the cold water with a soft splash. The water came up to her stomach. Kyle sighed and reached into his bag. “Here, you can't walk around naked.” He pulled out some clothing and the garments to Cal. “A young-looking girl like you would attract many people, even clothed.” Cal sniffled a laugh and stood, grabbing the clothes.

“Thank you.” She had given back Kyle's jacket when she had gone into the water.

“I want to ask you some questions about Victoria. I promise I wont scare you again.” Cal nodded and donned a shirt too big for her. “Are you a creation of hers?”

“Yes. I am the fourth offspring of Victoria.” She stepped into thin pants and pulled them up to her waist. “What, no underwear?” She remarked, half-smiling.

“Sorry.” Kyle apologized; Cal giggled and sniffed again. “I didn't know Victoria would turn one as young as you into a vampire.” Kyle noted. Cal walked to the jacket she had taken off and put it back on again.

“I am the youngest she has turned.”

“If you don't mind my asking; Victoria only turned me for, what I can gather, her own desires. Why did she turn you?” Cal looked up in surprise.

“You are one of hers as well?” Kyle nodded. Her smile returned. “Wow! I found another Onii-chan! What one are you?”

“I am the second.” Cal jumped and clapped her hands happily.

“Amazing!” Kyle smiled a brittle smile. So… at least four are made.

“So, why did she turn you so young?” Cal cocked her head to the side like a child.
“Well, I don't really know as to why she made me a vampire so young… but, like you, she kept me around for sex.” Kyle, surprised, checked to make sure he heard correctly.

“For… what?”

“Sex.” The older vampire held up his hands.

“Whoa whoa whoa… how could you two have sex?” Cal looked at Kyle strangely, like he was asking her how to walk.

“Well… we just… you know… rub against each other. Want to see?” Kyle put his face in his hands and sighed.

“I don't want to know. Changing the subject!” He yelled and hit the side of his head. He didn't want a mental image of Victoria if he could help it anymore. “So… did she ditch you too?” Cal nodded and smiled.

“She left me to train for a number of years.” Kyle opened his mouth in shock.

“What? To train?” Call nodded.

“Yea. She told me she leaves the newborn vampire after teaching the basics. During her absence, the newborn learns from experience. Then Victoria comes back when she feels you have learned enough.” Kyle gritted his teeth angrily. Training, huh? Some fucking training. Murdering bitch. “I heard about you, though, Onii-chan.” He looked at the smaller vampire.

“Heard about me?” Call nodded, a serious look on her face.

“Yea. You transgressed the law of newborn vampires in training and created another.” Kyle looked at the dark dirt. Transgressed… “The only solution to that is death, so says Victoria.” Kyle gripped his sword.

“That was a while ago.”

“But you have been in exile since then, right?” Kyle laughed loudly.

“An exile? Is that what I am now?” Cal nodded, prompting Kyle to continue laughing.

“Victoria warned me about you, too.” Kyle stopped laughing. “She told me all about you, all your habits, all your strengths and weaknesses. She did it as an example of what not to be. She thinks you are a failure.” Cal watched the older vampire grip his sword tighter. “I don't, though.” His grip lessened. “I don't think you are a failure.”

“You don't, huh?” Cal shook her head.

“If you were the failure Victoria had made you out to be, you wouldn't have saved me from the waterbenders.” Kyle crossed his arms, frowning.

“Are you going to tell Victoria about me?” Cal beamed happily and shook her head.

“Nope. But in return…” She held up a finger, indicating that she wasn't done talking. “I want to be trained.” Kyle raised an eyebrow.

“Trained?”

“Yea, you can firebend. I want to learn too.” Kyle smirked and held out his hand.”

“Done deal.” Cal took his hand and shook it.

. . .

“So, we went down to the outskirts of the fire nation, abducted a young firebender, and kept him as a… donor… so Cal could learn firebending. After I taught her what I knew, she left on her own to return to Victoria.” He laughed to himself. “Apparently, she kept her word about not telling Victoria about me, or I would probably be dead by now.” Cal was sleeping soundly on Kyle's arm, smiling. The sun was pretty high, now. It was getting later in the morning. “She must have been moving for a while, to be sleeping like this.”
Sokka cleared his throat. “How did she find us? I thought you said that nobody knows about this place.”

”Cal was… and is… the greatest tracker I have even seen.” Kyle answered. “She can find nearly anything. She not very physically strong, but her senses are extremely acute.”

Katara brushed a braid out of her hair. “Not very strong? But you are; aren't all vampires strong?” Kyle gestured wit his hands and tilted his head to the side, nodding.

“Well, yea. All vampires are inherently stronger than humans. But each vampire is different, just like humans are to themselves. We have differences such as, strengths and abilities.” Seeing everyone's confusion, Kyle elaborated. “For example, my elder brother, Vincent, has the ability to read minds. Cal, because of her small body, her strength is not as developed the same as the rest of us vampires. In exchange for that, her senses are focused. With her gift of sense, she is a natural hunter and tracker.”

“What's your gift?” Aang interrupted. Katara and Sokka leaned forward, also interested. Kyle smiled and leaned back.

“Oh… charm and dashing good looks.”

“Oh, ha ha.” Katara retorted sarcastically. “Anyway,” She donned a serious look. “How is her reaction towards waterbenders? I mean… after all that.” Kyle's smile disappeared.

“She was tortured into madness by waterbenders. How would you react?”

“Tortured into madness?” Aang asked; Kyle nodded.

“She doesn't seem like she's insane.” Sokka observed Cal; she still had her soft smile.

Kyle licked his upper lip and scratched his neck. “Most of the time she is not; she's like this. I witnessed her madness only once. And I was never more afraid for my life before then.”

“What happened?” Aang asked. Kyle glanced down at Cal, and then looked back to the others.

“Well, she was fine as far as I could tell until she returned to Victoria, but as we didn't encounter any waterbenders during that time, there's no way to tell. But Victora must have… fueled her anger towards waterbenders. When I saw her again about fifty years or so after she returned to Victoria, she seemed the same… until I waterbended.” Kyle twitched, remembering the event. “Apparent, her rage toward waterbenders is almost the same as mine towards Victoria.” Katara felt cold at once. I'm a waterbender. Kyle stared at Katara. “You had better watch your actions with her here.”

“But, you don't seem to hate Victoria all that much.” Aang pointed out. Kyle's eyes squared on the airbender, who froze on the spot.

“I despise her more that you can imagine.” He whispered coldly. Silence enveloped the room until Katara broke it.

“What happened when you waterbended?” She asked, not at all unworried about what would happen if she was found out by Cal. Kyle stared down at the ground silently. Those eyes… those chilling eyes. He shook his head and looked up.

“Lets just say… try not to piss her off in any way whatsoever, Ne?” Kyle smiled and Cal stirred beside him.

The little vampire yawned and opened her green eyes. “Hmm?” She looked around and saw Aang, Sokka, Katara, and Kyle. “Onii-chan!” She cried and latched onto his arm again. Kyle sighed and smiled.

“Yea, Cal, it's me.” Cal breathed in deep and sighed.

“Who are you're friends?” She asked, pulling away and looking over the other people in the room. After hesitating for a moment, then thinking the better of not answering Cal, Sokka spoke first.

“I'm Sokka; from the Southern Water Tribe.” Cal smiled widely and waved.

“I'm Katara, Sokka's sister.” Cal smiled at Katara.

“I'm Aang.” Cal waved at Aang and her eyes widened slightly.

“The Avatar, Onii-chan? You're traveling with the Avatar?” Kyle nodded.

“How did you know I'm the Avatar?” Aang asked. Cal smirked devilishly.

“Everybody knows the Avatar is an airbending child. And there hasn't been another airbender for a very… long… time. We wiped them all out.” Tension once again found its way into the room. Aang clenched his fingers and stiffened. “And the waterbenders are right behind them, with the fall of the North Water Tribe.” A collective gasp sounded from everyone and Kyle was the first to recover.

“The North Water Tribe was taken? Since when?” Cal turned to Kyle and smirked.

“About two months ago. Admiral Zhao took an entire fleet to the North Pole and sieged the entire city of waterbenders. Within two days, it fell.” Her big smile returned, and she laughed. “All the waterbenders and soon to be extinct, Onii-chan.” She turned to Sokka and Katara, a new, sympathetic look on her face. “I do apologize for the loss of your sister tribe, but this is war.” Sokka and Katara were too stunned to reply. They were going to the North Pole before they met up with Kyle. Had he saved them by changing their destination? Or…

“Could we have saved the tribe, if we were there?” Aang stared at the ground. Cal sighed loudly.

“Why? They are waterbenders.” Kyle placed a hand on Cal's head.

“Cal, you need to understand than not every waterbender is the same.” Cal scowled and shot a glare at Kyle. He jerked his hand away.

“They are all the same to me, Onii-chan.” Kyle would not dare glance at Katara; but he knew she had paled slightly. Cal turned back to Aang.

“If it's about your learning the four elements, then Kyle or I could teach you waterbending. Not harm done.” Katara spoke before she could stop herself.

“You can waterbend? But what about… you're stance towards waterbenders?” Cal's eyes narrowed and became sharp. Katara felt a chill run down her spine.

“I must know my enemy to destroy them.” Her bright green eyes bored into Katara's. The waterbender didn't blink; she just tried to stare right back.

“I… see…”

Kyle interjected the staring contest. “I have already taught him waterbending, Cal. We're on earthbending now.” Cal broke the stare and smiled.

“Alrighty then, I guess I'll be of no help until firebending.” She shrugged.

“You can't earthbend?” Aang asked; Cal shrugged.

“I tried to offer, but I realized that her body wouldn't be able to earthbend that well, being so lithe and small. So she can only Waterbend and Firebend.” Cal smiled at Kyle and nodded, saying that he knows her like a book.

“What about airbending?” Aang asked curiously. Cal shook her head.

“Nope. Only Onii-chan has been able to get airbending, oddly enough. Maybe Victoria has, but I've never seen her bend anything, so…” Kyle chuckled.

“I told you… charm and dashing good looks.” Cal giggled.

“Yep yep!”

Kyle sobered and sighed. “The only thing we can do is have you master the elements before the comet comes.” Aang nodded, determined. Cal snapped her fingers.

“Oh yea, Sozen's Comet. That's coming in the summer, huh?”

“Yea, it is.” Aang confirmed. Kyle rubbed his hands together.

“Alright then, lets get to it!” Every body stood and exited through the door, Cal in front, hopping happily. Kyle was about to leave when something held the back of his jacket. He turned his head to see Katara, who had grabbed his coat and looking at the ground, indicating that she wanted to ask something. When the door shut she let go.

“Is it a good idea to let her stay here?” Katara asked the vampire. Kyle sighed and let his shoulders fall.

“In reality, no, it isn't.” He turned to face Katara. “But I can't send her on her way. So…” He sighed again. “We just have to be more careful. Chances are that she will stay with me most of the time. So between those times I can give you assignments and you can train yourself.” Katara hesitated but nodded. “Please understand, I would prefer to personally train you, but this is for your own safety.” Katara nodded more forcibly. “But I do promise this…” The waterbender looked up, into Kyle's light eyes. “I will not let you get hurt.”

Katara's breath caught in her throat. He would protect her? Not that she liked the idea of being protected; she had taken care of herself for a long time. But the thought of somebody wanting to protect her made her stop and blush. Kyle smiled lightly and turned to the door. He placed his hand on the door latch and Katara's whisper sounded.

“Last night… wasn't a dream…. was it?” Kyle didn't move for a moment, then turned the latch and walked out. Katara stared down at the floor silently, and then smiled. My blood is your blood.

. . .

Aang jumped up and slammed his foot into the ground, causing a large crevice to appear and travel past Kyle between his legs. Kyle laughed and clapped.

“Alright, Aang! That's damn good!” Cal cheered from the sidelines. “You're getting much better!” Aang grinned and bowed extravagantly. “Alright, next technique.” Kyle walked next to Aang and got into his stance. “Do what I do.” Kyle slid his foot forward and thrust his arms to follow, flexing his fingers as his arms straitened. Aang watched as down the path, large spires of rock jutted up from the ground a few feet in the air, apparently with the purpose of stopping an advance or something similar. “The important part is to flex your fingers after your arms are strait. If you do it before, you undershoot. Just the opposite if you wait, you overshoot. Try.”

Aang tried to mimic the motion, but succeeded in only having dust and dirt fly up into his eyes. Aang yelped and blew the dirt away with a breath of wind. Kyle and Cal couldn't help but laugh at the failed move. Aang grumbled at the two vampires rolling on the ground and tried again. Kyle deftly heard from Cal about going to play with Katara and acquiesced. Only after Kyle had stood up and stopped laughing did he realize what had happened. Cal was going to see Katara. This morning he has taught her a new technique to try.

“Shit!” He yelled, getting Aang's attention. Cal had only been here a week; Kyle had not enough time to think of something to do. “I've got to stop her!” Aang looked around and noticed Cal was gone as well. He nodded and they ran towards Katara's training area.

Some distance away Katara was practicing freezing water inside the trees around her. She stood with her legs taut and her hands angled in front of her chest. She felt the water in the nearby trees start to expand then, soon, they froze on the inside. Opening her eyes, she saw that her handiwork made the trees look brighter than they usually did. Smiling, she clenched her hands into fists and pressed her fists together. Now, to unfreeze. She thought and the trees turned back to their original shade. I wish I could take the water out of them already. She sighed quietly. Kyle had not taught her that yet. But he was teaching her the steps towards it. She would try her best to learn as much as she could.

Katara brushed her hair out of her eyes and raised her hand, manipulating water beside her into the air. She felt the air get cold and clenched her hand, freezing the water into a large spike of ice. Letting out a cry, Katara swung her arm forward and threw the ice into a large tree in front of her. The ice stuck in the trunk with a dull thunk and Katara sighed, standing up strait. About time I get some lunch. She thought and turned towards the house.

In front of her stood Cal.

Cal stared at Katara silently, her arms limp at her side. Katara gasped in shock. Did she see me waterbend? By the blank look on her face, Cal might have.

“C-cal, what's wrong?” Cal blinked slowly and Katara felt a freezing chill run throughout her body. Cal's eyes looked blank and hollow, revealing a nothingness that made Katara feel sick. Katara backed one foot away and Cal's eyes blinked again, but faster. The vampire stepped forward.

“Waterbender…” She whispered in a low voice. “I'll kill you.” Cal bared her fangs and gave a shrill cry. Katara held her hands in front of her face and barely saw Cal leap at her.

. . .
