Kaorin is known as the girl with the unhealthy crush.  That is, she has an unhealthy crush on Sakaki.  Though, now in their senior year...she wanted so desperately to admit to Sakaki her true feelings.  She couldn't do it in public.  Especially with the lecherous Kimura-sensei nearby.  She passed a note to Sakaki to meet her on the rooftop.  This is what even a fool would know what was important.  Sakaki came to the roof, on the early autumn day.  She saw the timid Kaorin.  She was shaking visibly..but got her courage up.

"Miss Sakaki...I need to talk to you," Kaorin said.

"Oh, what is on your mind?" Sakaki said softly.

"Well...for a while now...I have had a crush on you...like romantically," She finally admitted.

"I'm sorry," Sakaki said.  "I cannot see my self in a girl/girl relationship."

"I understand," she said, trying to hold back tears.

"I know it hurts...but you will find somebody, one day," Sakaki offered.

"Thank you," she answered, trying to hid her dejection, "you've been a good friend."

"You still are a good friend."

She left the roof.  As suddenly as her day began...it felt like it ended right there.  Kaorin stood there like statue.  She then returned to her class, very dejected.  She went through the motions through the rest of the day.  Yukari noticed this, and decided to talk to her after school.  While Yukari feels like she doesn't want to deal with these problems, she's actually pretty good in giving advice.  After all, the students do confide in her and Nyamo than any other teacher, or the principal for that matter.

"Kaori," Yukari said seriously, "what the hell is going on with you...you're not your usual energetic self."

"I just got rejected by the girl I liked..." Kaori said.

"Listen, I've been rejected millions of times," she started, "it never is easy."

"How do you deal with it?"

"I mourn for a day, then get on with my life."

"I'm to young to do...the adult things..." Kaorin then said.

"Legally you can't go to a bar, but you can however take things in stride," she returned.  "I don't drink all of the time...and I don't game all of the time."

"You are telling me not do anything destructive?"

"That's exactly right," Yukari said.  "Besides, you'll end up finding the one person you like...and it will be unexpected."

"Still...I can't just jump right into it," Kaorin said realistically.

"Once you are done mourning, ask yourself a question....are you more important, or a girl?"

Kaorin then nodded.  Everything Yukari said, made serious sense  After all, she did help her through her second year transition.  Also, the third-year transition.  Either way, she decided to go home.  Astronomy club didn't have the answers she was looking for.  Once home, her mother noticed she was home a little bit earlier than expected.

"Did you drop from Astronomy club?" her mother (who looks identical to her) asked.

"No ma'am...I have too much on my mind," Kaorin answered

"Do you want to talk about it Kaori?" she then asked sweetly.

"Yeah," she said, "I admitted to a long-time friend I liked her..."

"How did she take it?"

"She took it well, but she isn't into girl/girl relationships."

"Was she respectful about it?"

"She was very respectful, and friendly," she answered.

"That is all that counts," her mother said.  "not everybody want a homosexual relationship, or hate it all together."

"I hope I find my one...soon."

"Just don't let it hang over you," her mother then said.  "You go do your homework, then wash up for dinner."

"Yes ma'am," Kaorin said, "and thank you."

"You're welcome...I'm here anytime."

Kaorin did as she was told.  It was early evening when she finished her homework.  She still didn't want to face her family.  Thankfully, her mom kept everything in confidence.  While her father knows...they've been long apart.  That is...in the same room, they're 4,000 miles away.  He thought it was unnatural for guys to like guys, and girls to like girls.  However, her mom was firmly in her corner.  Still, it was a quiet dinner.  Her father...noticed that she was unusually quiet.  They barely speak at all.  Kaorin was forced to explain what happened.

"I am sorry," he said softly.  "I am also sorry for pushing you away."

"I...I...I...forgive you," Kaorin said...nearly tearing up.

They both went into a hug.  Kaorin knew their own relationship would take time to heal.  However, she had to concentrate on herself.  She then decided to call it a night.  It was only 6:40 in the evening...but she had a lot of thinking to do.  She also had house cleaning to do.  She took down all of her secret pictures of Sakaki.  She decided to trash them.  She did keep some of the friendlier ones.  After she took out her trash...she then lay in her bed thinking.  She was thinking on how to make a new beginning.  She decided to let people come to her...just not from her class, and definitely not from Kimura.  The very next day, was the day they had to switch to their summer uniforms.  Though it was a bit cold for it.  The first day of spring was a tease.

"Damn," Kaorin cursed, "they do this to be mentally tough...but they don't know what it's like."

"Kaorin, over here!" Tomo called.

"Hey, what's going on?" Kaorin asked.  Though Tomo quite early this morning.

"I'm well...I take it that you and Sakaki have hit a bump in the road," she answered

"Yeah...I was being selfish," Kaorin said a bit dully.

"Don't worry about it," Tomo then said cheerfully.  "Shit happens, all you have to do is not get it on your shoes!"

'That's the bluntest thing I've ever heard anybody say,' Kaorin thought.

"Don't give up, girl!" Tomo then said.  "You're going to find a sexy one!"

That gave Kaorin all the confidence she needed.  While her mom and Yukari were right...it was this high school's known jackass who can give anybody confidence.  Though, false confidences, she still felt better about herself.  She also knows that nothing has changed between her and Sakaki.  She went up to the taller student and bowed.  Sakaki has done so likewise.

"Good morning," Sakaki said calmly, "how are you feeling?"

"Good morning to you," Kaorin returned, "I am better than I was last night."

"That is good to hear," Sakaki said.  "Listen...about yesterday..."

"I understand," Kaorin said.  "My mom said that not everybody is cut out for relationships."

"You are cut out for one," Sakaki said.  "You have to find your right one, who is respectful and loves you for who you are."

"I will," Kaorin said softly.

Sakaki and Kaorin had parted ways for the day.  Kaorin went to her class.  Thankfully...Kimura was relieved for two weeks for a family vacation to Yokohama.  The substitute had no idea on classical literature, so he made it into a study hall.  However, first thing was first, the class representative had to collect the homework to turn in for Kimura to grade.  Kaorin did just that.  He then allowed the kids who were trying to get other work done to do so.  Kaorin had no work since she went home early yesterday.  She decided to go to the library.  She fake-studied since she had a lot on her mind.  She didn't expect to see Yomi at the library sitting across from her, doing the same thing.

"Man...this sucks," Yomi said, "this comic is no good."

"Here," Kaorin said, "read this."

"Thanks," Yomi returned, "So...how goes it with the substitute?"

"He doesn't know classical literature at all," Kaorin reported.

"I have a feeling that he'll give you what Kimura asked in his notes," she said.

"Yes, so expect a study period," she then said.

"I'm already on one...Yukari was in a very foul mood today."

"She really needs to control her gamer's temper," she said with a slight chuckle.

Yomi couldn't help it.  She gave a short chuckle as well.  She has always finished off her homework on time...however, she had to put Tomo in her place against copying.  This also kept Tomo at bay because...she never comes to the library.  Still, Yomi talked to Kaorin about the situation.  she explained everything.  Yomi, then blushed.  She had her own issues to deal with.  Mainly her self-esteem, and body issues.

"Do you have astronomy club today?" Yomi asked.

"I dropped out this morning before class," Kaorin said.

"W-well, do you want to come over to my place tonight?"

"I can't..." Kaorin answered sadly, "I have to get straight home, I have a family thing tonight...I'm free this Saturday."

"Here's my phone number and address, don't lose it."

"You know...here's a strange idea," Kaorin then said with a smile, "how about we start dating."

"That sounds...sudden," Yomi said.

"If you don't, I'd understand," she said sweetly.

She was quiet to let it sink in.  She knew she'd be able to get herself somebody to hang out with...and actually get closer with.  They both agreed that now was too sudden.  Kaori instead decided to move it to next Saturday night.  She knew she was free...and Yomi knew she was free.  Though...she did feel something strange.  This got even Chiyo-chan's attention...she was just coming into her own at this point.

"Yomi...what's the matter?" Chiyo asked concerned.

"Oh, I have something on my mind," Yomi said, fidgeting with her glasses.

"You have a lot on your plate," she said sweetly.

"Sometimes I have too much," she said...still taken by Kaori's offer to date her.

"You should go home and rest."

"That's a great idea...I won't be over tonight as planned."

Chiyo understood.  She still didn't understand relationships, yet.  However, she understood when one of her friends was feeling down.  Yomi went walking to collect her thoughts.  She never been in any prior relationships...neither had Kaorin.  Though....both had a lot to think about.  They also had two weeks to back down, to forget about everything.  However...this was going to be a long week.
