Chapter 9

The First Trial

 

“Fine let's do it.” Ranma stated. With that simple statement Ranma shocked the room into silence.

 

“Just like that Ranma.” Allura said.

 

“Ranma you heard what the princess said.” Deedlit tried to talk Ranma out of it. “You live if you pass or you die if you don't pass. There's too much of a risk.”

 

“Deedlit, I will face this trial. You must understand for the last year I have run like a coward to escape the Dragon Knights but no more.” Ranma said. “I will face this trial and I will pass it.”

 

Every woman there including the Allura was amazed at his confidence at passing the trial. Ranma turned to walk away but was stopped by Deedlit.

 

“Ranma.” Deedlit wrapped her arms around the man and gave him a passionate kiss. Ranma was surprised but kissed her back. “Please come back.”

 

Ranma gave a warm smile and nodded. “I have something worthwhile to come back to Deedlit and not just you but Arshes and the others since they are my friends now.”

 

“Lead the way princess.”

 

Allura walked with Ranma and the other women following. They came to a door in a room and the group stopped.

 

“Only you can pass this door Ranma nobody else.” Allura said. “Good luck, warrior.”

 

Ranma nodded his thanks and walked through the door.

 

Once Ranma was through the door Allura spoke once again.

 

“In this room we will see the trial Ranma will go through.” Allura said. “We will appear like invisible ghosts in his vision. He won't see or hear us.”

 

Soon the women found themselves in a forest. The women saw Ranma watching an ugly, man training a small boy. They saw Ranma flinch and heard his whisper.

 

“It's my past.”

 

All the women including Allura became more interested in the boy at those words. They could see it was Ranma because the boy had the same blue eyes as the young man they traveled with. Smiles broke out on the faces of the women as they thought how cute he was as a little boy.

 

The smiles turned into murderous expressions of anger as they watched the man Ranma called father torture his son in the name of training.

 

Being lied to about stealing. His father told him if he took it and got away with it it was his. Learning what he was really doing and being beaten to a pulp for disobeying his father.

 

Carrying two large packs, rocks, and his father in a boggy swamp while being chased by wolves.

 

Tied to a horse that was ridden by his father and forced to run behind it.

 

Being hit by an iron pole and being bruised up by his father while the old man was whining towards the heavens on what a weak son he had.

 

Being dropped off the side of a boat a mile from shore with an anchor tied around him.

Being tossed in a pit of cats while tied up in fish sausage over and over again. Flaps of skin were hanging off his body.

 

Dangerous exercises that were called training but were really torture. Insulted time and time again about his manliness.

 

Making friends then leaving them behind. The women saw Ranma stop making friends, as he was always saddened to leave them behind. The women saw the smile on Genma's face as he watched Ranma be isolated again and again.

 

The women watched as Ranma projected a cheerful front to the world while on the inside depressed enough to kill himself.

 

Ranma and the group of women watched Genma on his own sell Ranma over and over again. Ranma was mostly sold as a fiancée, some as a payment for services or goods, some as a scapegoat for his thefts, and a few as a slave.

 

The saw Jusenkyo and how Genma insulted Ranma to fight him and get his curse.

 

The first meeting with the Tendos and the offer of friendship by Akane and then the betrayals. The disgust of the other sisters and their excuses by saving themselves and giving up Ranma.

 

The Amazons arriving and Genma making his son take the blame. The drugs they used so they could have a slave or breeding stock.

 

His best friends Ryouga and Ukyo coming wanting to kill him for the actions of Genma.

 

Deal after deal Genma made which he blamed Ranma arriving and Ranma getting the blame.

 

The perverted Happosai coming and the women knew him well. Happosai was cursed if he ever entered Strawberry Fields again he would turn into a bleached blonde bimbo with an extra generous upper body. The women watched as Genma and his best friend as total cowards forced Ranma to be Happosai's student. The women wanted to kill Genma for that comment about raising him well. They watched as Happosai terrorized Nerima and the girls of the Tendo Household and watched as Ranma tried to defend the girls. Saw Akane blame Ranma if Happosai blame him and watched her nearly kill them time and time again.

 

Deedlit gnashed her teeth as she saw the disgraceful behavior of Nabiki as she sold out Ranma time and time again just for cash and her personal amusement. They watched Kasumi, as she knew what was going on and did nothing to put a stop to it.

 

Arshes and the others watched as Akane treated Ryouga as a perfect gentleman while she treated Ranma as a freak. Even though Ryouga snuck into her bed as her pet pig P-chan.

 

They watched in anger as Ryouga took advantage of Ranma's promise of not to tell to sow discord between Akane and Ranma. The women's anger grew at Soun Tendo's refusal to tell Akane because he knew it made Ranma jealous.

 

The women watched Nodoka Saotome, Ranma's own mother treat him as a slave because of a seppuku contract she lorded over Ranma. They quickly realized that Nodoka would never release Ranma from the contract. It was her means of control over him and Nodoka knew it.

 

They watched Ranma's battles against Happosai, Cologne, Herb, and finally Saffron. One thing Allura, Deedlit, and the others noticed about Ranma were his courage and determination to fight his best and to win no matter how the odds were against him.

 

All the women were amazed at his battle with Saffron not giving an inch to the deity. They saw the amazement on Saffron's face when Ranma emerged from the god's most powerful attack.

 

“You cannot win human. I am a god and you are just human.” Saffron boasted when he saw Ranma's injuries. “You cannot stop me.”

 

“That may be so Saffron but I don't care because every fiber in my body will be trying to defeat you for good.” Ranma quietly said.

 

Ranma finally killing the god and Akane thanking by slugging him a few across the face stating she didn't need rescuing. Every woman rolled their eyes at that statement.

 

`Yeah right.' Every woman thought. All the women there thought the words delusional and some added idiot to their description of Akane as well.

 

A week after the battle with the Phoenix the women watched as Ranma's so-called family tried to get him married to the girl. They seethed in anger at Akane using her mallet and nearly killing the young warrior for the wedding being ruined. Anyone that had common sense could see it was Nabiki's fault for selling out the information about the wedding. Their anger grew when everyone followed Akane's lead and blamed Ranma.

 

After that Ranma's life grew even more difficult. The girls after him increased their efforts to claim him as theirs. Akane would hit or abuse him even if he looked at another girl. The rivals grew more fanatical about killing the young man.

 

Then the day where Ranma put the Blue Dragon Knight into the hospital for 3 months. All the women gasped in astonishment realizing Ranma was stronger then they had thought.

 

The women frowned at the government's cowardice as the government official told Ranma that if he repeated what he did to the Blue Dragon Knight he would be locked in his cursed form and given as a peace offering to Kuno.

 

Arshes and the others watched three months later when Kuno was healed when he found out who the pigtailed girl's father was and what he had to do to make her his. They smiled a little as Ranma put both Kuno and his father in the hospital for the next few months.

 

All the women were furious when they saw Akane's betrayal when she tried to knock him out and lock him in his cursed form. The women watched as Ranma finally gave her a hard lesson in pain along with Mousse and Ryouga who teamed up with the delusional girl.

 

Allura and the women watching the trial watched as Ranma fled his own nation and tried to start a new life over and over again but the Blue Dragon Knight kept on finding him with Nabiki's help.

 

When Ranma tried to start a new life for the last time he had befriended an old sensei and his 10-year-old granddaughter Sara. He had helped with the chores and even to train Sara a little when Kuno came. Sara had nearly died when Kuno used his thrust technique.

 

Ranma had bid the old sensei and Sara goodbye but the two did not want Ranma to leave but Ranma said he had to. Sara had clung to his legs and the old sensei loosened her and lifted her in his arms. Ranma then told her if she got hurt because of him he would never forgive himself.

 

A week later Ranma found the new wanted posters with a million gold pieces offered for capture alive. Ranma then knew he would never be able to escape the Dragon Knights so the young man decided to take the fight to them.

 

The visions ended there with a female voice calling out while Ranma shivered in fear at his past being shown to him. So many things he wanted to change but couldn't.

 

“You are a coward running from your past. Haunting you. Controlling you.”

 

At the last part Ranma's eyes glowed with anger and he hissed out. “I admit that I was a coward from running from my past and yes it does haunt me but my past never controls me. Not now.

 

“If it did I would never had befriended Deedlit and the others who travel with me. I will learn from my past and try not to make the same mistakes I made in the past.”

 

The room was empty has the entity considered what Ranma had said. Suddenly the same female voice sounded out again.

 

“Good work on passing the trial. By facing your past and admitting what your shortcomings were you have passed this test. You have earned the Light Hawk Shield.”

 

All the women cheered as Ranma's bracer glowed then changed to a light blue.

 

“When the time comes you will know how to use it Ranma.”

 

Ranma nodded then bowed in the room and left. The women waited for him in the outer room.

 

“Congratulations Ranma for passing the trial.” Deedlit said with a blinding smile on her face. “We watched the entire trial you had to go through including scenes from your past. To tell you the truth I have the urge to really hurt those who hurt you for their own pleasure, amusement, or they just profited from you being hurt.”

 

All the women nodded with grim looks on their faces as Ranma smiled. The trial had taught him one thing. One must learn from his own past and learn from their mistakes but you must never let the past control or rule your future.

 

Far away two other women were watching and they were glad that Ranma had passed the first trial.

Ranma takes a break in the hot spring and he gets an offer for someone to scrub his back from the most unexpected person.
