Kai sat at his desk, head on his hand with a stoic look on his face. In fact it was rare that he had any kind of emotion on his face, save when he was with his best friend Tala and even then all the red head would receive would be grunts of approval and the very occasional smile. Today was one of those days where he wanted to flip a table and rage but he kept it all inside. The only noticeable change in his facial features was the slight spark in his deep red eyes when he would direct a glare at some poor unfortunate soul who happened to be in the room.

It had just been announced to him that morning that he was to be betrothed to a Chinese princess for diplomatic reasons. There was a war brewing and his grandfather, King Voltaire Hiwatari, had decided that to ensure an alliance between his Russian kingdom the Chinese Kingdom that he would marry off his only grandson. That was Kai. The only silver lining he could think of was that he wouldn't be forced to live in some overly humid country. He was lucky enough that the princess would be forced to come live with in his castle in Russia.

He sighed and looked out the window, a quill in his hand and his memoirs on the desk in front of him.

“Hey how are you keeping up?” A voice asked as he opened the door and walked into the room, flopping onto the very large bed. He rolled onto his back and looked to the slate haired boy upside down.

“How do you think Tala?” He asks, knowing who it was without turning around.

Tala pulled a face and crossed his arms while looking to Kai from the bed, blowing some the bangs out of his eyes with sigh. “It sucks that you have to get married to some girl you barely know...I used to think being the crowned prince would be awesome...” He says as he looks that the roof of the canopy bed. “But when you're forced into marriages of convenience, suddenly it doesn't seem so glamorous” “You don't say” Kai says in a sarcastic tone. “It's not so much that I don't want to be married” He turned around in the chair so he could look to the redhead making himself at home on his bed. “I don't care for love and all that romantic bullshit...I just don't like the fact that I have no choice...” He leaned back in the chair. “She better be good looking at least” He grumbled. “If this is as you say, to be a marriage of convenience, it better be convenient for me too” He looked up when there was a knock at the door. “Come in”A man with greying hair and a kind smile opened the door, looking at the two. “I'm sorry to bother you master Hiwatari and master Ivanov but your archery lesson is in ten minutes”“Thank you Anton, we'll be down shortly” Kai says in a dismissive tone, waving the man off. He walked out of the room and closed the door. He looked to Tala. “If I don't like her, I'm not going through with the wedding...and that's all there is to it”

Tala pulled a face and pushed himself up. 'Have fun telling that to Voltaire' He thinks before following Kai out of his room and down to the archery pitch.

“Mariah!” Rei yelled as he scrunched a note in his hand and looked around for the girl. “I can't believe this...Mariah!” He walked out of her room, the note in his hand and looking livid. It had read 'I can't be married off to some Russian prince so I'm eloping. Please don't be mad at me. Love Mariah' The 'i's were all dotted with little hearts and it was decorated heavily with small drawings of cats.

'Damn it...she probably left during the night' He thought as he walked down the hallways. “Ah Lee!” He calls out to the prince when he sees him. “Lee...Mariah is gone” He says.

Lee looks around and raises his eyebrow at Rei. “What are you talking about...she's in her room isn't she?” He asks, narrowing his eyes. Rei hands him the note and he opens it up, reading it top to bottom several times. “Are you kidding me?! She's supposed to be leaving for Russia tonight...what are we gonna do?!” He started to stress as he thought about it. Without a princess to marry to the Russian kingdom, their alliance would be rejected and they would be a target during the upcoming war.

There was a small chuckling coming from the shadows as a short man stepped out, looking at the two boys. Rei looks around and down. “Oh master Tao...Mariah is...”
“I know...she's gone. Eloped she has, with a pretty blonde stable hand” He chuckled, holding his staff close. “But if we send no princess, we shall have no alliance...” His eyes sparkled as he looked between the two boys.

“What do you suggest master Tao?” Lee asks, crossing his arms. “We don't have another princess to send in Mariah's stead”Master Tao's eyes shone again and his mouth widened in a smirk. “Well...”

“Absolutely not!” Rei yelled, stomping his food and glaring at the smirking man sitting on a chair, cross-legged. “No no no!”Lee held a hand before his mouth and snickered. “Come on Rei...you look pretty deceiving” He tried his best to hold in a laugh.

Rei held a hand before his eyes and sighed. “I really hate you guys...and I look like a fool!” He snapped, glaring at the two. He had donned a fancy silken red dress with gold trimming, his hair being tied back in a long plait with woven red and gold silk ribbons.

“We don't have a princess to offer and the country could be in jeopardy if we don't send someone. With your long hair and slim physique, you're our best bet. I'm sorry Rei...but unless we find Mariah in the next hour...” Lee leans against the wall, his arms crossed and actually feeling guilty after poking fun.

Rei sighed. “This means I'll have to shave my legs...doesn't?” He sees Lee and Tao nod before lowering down and sighing again. “This really sucks...” He mumbled.

They were in a real bind as they couldn't send just any Chinese girl. She had to be of royal blood and preferably a direct descendant of the throne. Lee was the next closest, but he had to remain in China to take over the throne when his grandfather passed it down to him and although Rei wasn't a direct descendant, he still possessed royal blood in his veins. Not to mention he was far more feminine than Lee could ever hope to be. So it was decided that Rei would take the place of Mariah at the very last second and they would all hope against hope that the Russian prince would be none the wiser.

***After a very long and arduous journey from Beijing to Moscow, Rei had finally arrived at the Russian capital city. The carriage ride had to be one the most boring and painful experiences of the poor Chinese prince's life but they finally arrived and his help had come with him in the form of an old lady servant named Ming. “Master Rei, you should put on your dress before we head in less they realise you're not a Chinese Princess” She says in a wise old tone.

Rei sighed and fumbled around, pulling on the bright red, silky dress. It fell down around his legs, the sides cut out right up to the hips. “I still think this thing looks ridiculous...they're going to find me out and slaughter me on the spot” He mumbles as he fixes the bra with the leather water balloons to give him the illusion of breasts. “Although these don't look half bad...good thing this dress has no cleavage...that would be hard to explain away” He mutters as he does up the neck buttons. He slips on the silky red flats as Ming ties his hair up before helping him with his make up, a skill he would have to learn if he wanted to continue fooling the Russian family.

“We've arrived at the castle...are you ready to disembark Master Rei” The driver of the carriage asks.

Rei sighed. “Yes...but don't call me master...that's a male's name. Call me mistress you fool” He grumbles before coughing into his hand and putting on his best female's voice.

“Kai stop scowling like that or you'll scare them off” Voltaire commented, picking on his grandson yet again. “You had better show them the proper respect” He growled.
Kai rolled his eyes and uncrossed his arms, placing them by his sides. He was dressed up for the occasion, but he wished more than anything that he could be back in the library studying than meeting his 'bride to be'. “This is a waste of time...I'm not marrying some rich girl from China” He growled through clenched teeth.

“You will if you want to inherent the throne” His grandfather growled back before forcing a smile onto his face when the carriage doors opened. “Smile you brat” He mutters under his breath.

Kai narrowed his eyes and forced a grimace onto his face.

He sighed as the door was opened, closing his eyes as the sunlight filled the small carriage. He covered his eyes before stepping down with some help from the driver. His eyes widened and he nearly fell over from how cold it was. 'Oh my god...who decided on this dress again?' He thinks as his eye twitches, his legs covering in goose bumps. He shakily walked down the red carpet that had been rolled out especially for his arrival, trying his best not to curse from the sheer cold. He walked up the steps and bowed when he saw the king.

“Welcome to our kingdom...I am King Voltaire and this is my grandson and your betrothed, Kai Hiwatari” He says in an obviously fake kind tone. He gestured to the moody looking boy to his side.

“Pleased to meet you Princess” He says in an arrogant tone before taking Rei's hand and leaning down to kiss the top.

'I have to marry this guy?' Rei thinks, his eye twitching. 'No wonder Mariah ran away from home' “Eh...nice to meet you too...I'm Rei K-” He had to stop himself mid sentence. “Excuse me...Rei Wong...” He says, remembering to use Mariah and Lee's last name instead of his own. He sighed and took his hand back.

Kai stood upright and looked into Rei's yellow eyes, narrowing his own red ones. “Please...come inside. Your outfit...looks hardly appropriate for this weather” He smirks at the frown that slides onto Rei's face.

“Silly me...China is so warm...I had no idea it would be so cool here” He says, closing his eyes and smiling. Inside he wanted to rip those blue triangle tattoos clean off his smug ass face.

Voltaire remained outside to speak diplomatics with the Chinese emissary who had accompanied Rei on his journey while Kai showed him inside. Kai said very little as he walked along the hallways, the roofs of which were almost a kilometre high. Rei found himself silently wondering how they managed to clean the ceilings when he nearly bumped into Kai's back as the slate haired boy had stopped walking.

“This will be your room” He says bluntly, opening the door and showing the Chinese boy to his room. There was a large king sized canopy bed, a fireplace opposite, a desk by the window and two lounge chairs opposite each other with a glass coffee table between them. There was a door to left of the bed and one next to the fireplace. “That door there” He points to the one next to the bed. “Leads to your own personal ensuite. The other door leads directly into my room. You will not use it unless I tell you to come into my room, are we clear?” He asks, looking to Rei.

“Crystal, my lord” Rei says with narrowed eyes as he walked into the very lavish room. It was much larger and nicer than the room he had in China but that room was his own and he had it the way he liked it. This one was definitely an upgrade but the fact that the Russian prince could wonder into his room in the middle of the night if he wanted, unnerved him just a little. “Thank you for your hospitality...I would ask that I be alone to refresh myself before the evening meal” He says, trying to be as respectful as possible.

“Yeah sure...whatever” Kai says as he walked over to the door by the fireplace. He opened it, showing Rei a glimpse of his room before walking in and closing it behind him. Rei sighed and walked over to the bed, sitting on the edge and covering his face with his hand. 'Lee you dick...there's no way I can pull this off...Mariah. Where did you go?' He thinks as he dwells on how to deal with his new life.
