Blood Love

Rei stopped at the first gates that he came too when he approached the castle. The castle was surrounded by fog, and darkness was coming on, but, Rei could still get a good view of the turrets and towers.

The castle was huge, there was a stone bridge connecting the dirt road to the two huge front doors. The iron gates where connected to an arch that signaled the beginning of the bridge. Torches lines the walkway of the huge bridge, and they suddenly came to life, as if someone had magically called them to fire themselves up. Then, the iron door, which had been closed and locked, opened wide for Rei to pass through.

"Okay….this is weird," Rei muttered, but, curiosity pulled at him and Rei decided to take a chance and stepped onto the hard stone of the bridge. The iron gates closed and locked behind him once again with a loud `CLANG' which had Rei jumping around and raising his hands in a self defense posture.

"Hn, don't get spooked, it's just a castle after all," Rei muttered to himself once again.

"Great, now I'm talking to myself, that has got to be sign," he said, then shook his head at himself and continued on. The front door of the castle, Rei noted, were huge. At least ten feet about his five foot, and ten inches frame. They were made out of a heavy red wood; at least, that was what Rei thought. The doors had two huge lion knockers on both sides, and huge black iron rings served as door knobs.

Rei took one of the lion knockers, in both hands it was so huge, and raised it high enough and then let go, quickly moving his hands out of the way. Another loud `CLANG' signaled that the knocker had done it's job. But, nothing happened. Rei then knocked on the wood of the door.

"Hello! Anyone home!" Rei called loudly, his voice echoed in the court yard. Rei was beginning to think that this had been a stupid idea and decided to take his chances in walking to the small Russian village in the dark, it was then, not too surprisingly, that the door opened. Rei stood at the door step for a moment before stepping in to the threshold of the castle. It was dark inside, torches lined the walls, giving off a soft yet spooky glow. The floor was bare of any carpeting, and a cold wind drove through the broken stained glass window that was placed above the wooden doors. Rei took a few more steps into the old castle, for indeed it was very old, and it even felt old. There was just something that yelled it, suddenly, the door creaked shut and closed with a `BOOM'. Rei jumped again, turning to face the door, he then laughed nervously at himself and hit his head with the palm of his hand.

"Umm…hello! I hope you don't mind, but, could I stay for the night? I know it seems a bit forward, and I apologize, but I would very much appreciate it…" Rei called, the foyer that he stood in had a high ceiling, at least, according to the echoes that answered Rei back. The only thing that even remotely acknowledged him, was the wind that sang through the huge hall.

Rei tried to look into the shadows that were cast by the torch light. He thought he could hear soft breathing, but wasn't sure if it was real breathing or just the wind. A flapping sound brought his attention to a stone stair way the lead to another level of the castle. Rei could have sworn that he saw a huge shadow then, like someone who wore a cape.

"Okay….now what?" Rei whispered, but it echoed through the hall again and could b e heard as if it hadn't been a whisper. Rei twirled around, he was sure that the breathing was behind him, but, he could make nothing out. Suddenly, more torches came to life, leading down a hallway to his left. Rei shrugged to himself and quietly made his way to the hallway. There were no doors that lead off of the new path; but, once Rei came to the end of the short hallway, it was probably about five feet from start to finish, it lead to another huge room.

It must be a dinning room, Rei thought, there was a terribly long table, with several lighted candelabra's from one end of the table to the other. There were two places set on the table that was closest to the fire place, which was all ready roaring with a huge fire. Rei made his way over to the huge fireplace, that looked be made out of the same stone as the rest of the castle.

Rei stood in front of the fireplace, letting the heat soak into his cold body. Then, there was a ringing sound behind him, and Rei turned to see, that food was set on the table. How that happened, and why, was beyond Rei. He approached, and on one of the plates, there stood a note.

It was written on old parchment, the ink was red, as red as fresh blood; the writing was flowing and swirled in a pretty pattern. The hand was deffinantly male, and whoever it was, was deffinantly in charge.

Dear Traveler,

Welcome to my home, please eat and then you will be lead to you're room. In the morning, I hope to have a talk with you, and get to know you more. Please relax, and once in you're room, do not leave!

Sincerely,

Count Hiwatari

Rei was flabbergasted, but decided to do as the note said. He sat down at his place and served himself some of the food. It consisted of Roast beef and sort of clam chowder, and some greens. There was a bottle of wine left for him, and Rei decided to have half a glass. It was then that he saw the small inkstand and some paper that was the same as the note he had gotten, which he had put into his pocket before he sat down to dinner.

Rei pulled the ink well and paper to him, and thought for a moment before writing.

Dear Count Hiwatari,

Thank you very much for you're kindness to this traveler; Thank you for dinner, it was wonderful and just what I needed after walking for so long. I look forward to seeing you in the morning. Good night, and thank you for opening you're home to me. I will take you're warning to heart, I will not leave my room. Once again, thank you for everything.

Sincerely,

Rei Kon

Then, Rei gently stacked his used plates, and that was then that a door opened off the hall, it was located on the right side of the huge fireplace. Torches lined the walls of this hall way too, and Rei decided to follow the light. Seeing as how the lights had lead him once before, Rei wasn't to surprised to see the hallway.

The torches light lead Rei to a stone stair way, which was enclosed by stone walls; it twisted up into what Rei thought was a tower. Rei took a torch into hand and started up the stair way. He counted as he went, there were a hundred steps before he got to the top.

Another door opened to him, made out of the same wood as the front doors of the castle but was much lighter in weight. Rei entered, and the door softly closed behind him and there was a click. Rei turned and tried to open the door, but it was locked.

"Hmm…must be a security measure," he muttered, then smacked himself again. This talking to himself was getting annoying. Rei then looked around the room, the candles were unlit, so Rei lit at least five of the candles that were in the room. There were four torches that stood in the corners of the room, and Rei lit those as well.

With all the light, he could tell that there was a huge, four poster bed, with white drapes that hung from the wood in a canopy and down the sides, that could be pulled in order to get more privacy. To the left of the alcove that the bed sat in, was a window with a window seat, This window looked over the country side and Rei could see the court yard down below. To the left of the window, was a desk, with a mirror in front of it. Combs, beautiful combs, set with gems of all kinds and were made out of gold, sat on the desk. And there was another ink well with some paper setting in a little cubby of the desk.

Right across the room from the bed, was another door. Rei tried this one, and surprisingly, it opened up to him, The bathroom was made out of stone, but there was a bath tub, and hot water had been poured into it. A dressing gown was hung on a hook by the tub and there were towels stacked on a low table by the tub as well.

The air smelled of roses and Lilies; another note stood upon the towels, Rei picked it up and read it.

Dear Sweet Kitten,

Enjoy this bath and get a good night sleep; nothing will bother you.

Sincerely,

Count Kai

"Than you," Rei said loudly, wondering if anyone was watching him. Rei had suddenly got the weird feeling of being watched in the dinning room but had not thought anything of it, now, the feeling was, if it was at all possible, more intense. Rei shook the thought from his head, and put the torch in a holder by the door of the bath room.

Rei then stripped and got into the hot water. The water was exactly how he liked his bath water to be, and he loved the smell. Rei had noting against flowers, in fact, roses and lilies were his favorites, but, he didn't like the idea of smelling like a woman. But, the Count had gone to a lot of trouble for him, so Rei decided that it wasn't all that bad.

Rei settled down in bed, the sheets were warm; most of the candles were out, and a small fire was going in a small fireplace that was located to the left of the bathroom. Rei left the curtains of the bed open, deciding it better was better to be able to see the room.

"Good night…count…." Rei muttered before falling asleep, the heat of the fire making him very sleepy.
