Blood Love

Chapter 3

Count Kai Hiwatari sat in the library of the huge castle. It was mostly dark, the drapes were closed across the windows that were set at least fifty feet above the floor, and a huge fireplace took up ten feet of the stone wall. A fire played merrily with dried wood, and a crackling sound could be heard. Books lined the mile long shelves of the library, a metal stair case twisted up to the second level that held even more books.

In front of the fire place was laid an oriental rug, two deep red wing backed chairs stood on the rug and in front of the fire place. A round table was set between the chairs. A glass goblet was set near the left chair, which held the Count.

Kai read a book and sipped at his glass of dark red liquid; behind him something rattled; though, nothing could be seen.

"Tyson, stop that," Kai ordered, just then a transparent form of a young boy with black hair that was held in a pony tail at the nape of his neck came into view.

"Oh Kai, you are no fun at all," Tyson whined.

"Hn, what did you think you were doing?" Kai asked.

"Nothing," Tyson smiled.

"I don't believe you, and stay out of the tower room," Kai replied, still reading his book.

"You mean, the one that you let the traveler have?" Tyson asked. Kai stood up and brought out the note that Rei Kon had written him.

"He is very polite, he didn't feel scared….just….curious," Kai said, reading the note again.

"Yeah, but I was sure he would bolt when I opened the front door for him, by the way, why do you want him anyway?" Tyson asked. Kai rolled his eyes.

"I need more, I need a donor," Kai replied, pocketing the note.

"You really think that he'll go for it?" Tyson asked.

"We will talk in the morning, no…go do something and don't go near the tower room, I don't want him running out in the middle of the night," Kai glared at the transparent figure.

"Right, right, okay, I won't," Tyson replied before disappearing into thin air.

Morning came, but the dark drapes had been drawn across the windows. Rei snuggled deeper into his blankets, he had suddenly become cold when he knew he had been warm just moments before; Rei pulled the covers over his head, then, they suddenly flew off.

Rei sat up in a panic, the covers of the bed had been thrown onto the floor; the curtains had been flung wide, so had the window and sun light came through. A disembodied laughter came to Rei's ears and he prickled at the sound.

"W-what?" Rei asked, shivering.

"Don't worry, get up, breakfast will come to you and then we will take you to Kai," the voice came again, and with it, an apparition of a blond boy with a wide happy smile came into being. Rei's golden eyes widened, and he had trouble swallowing back the cry that was just gushing to come out.

"Don't worry, about me, I will be back in a moment," the boy said, then he disappeared and Rei felt calmer, maybe it was that presence that had been watching him last night while he was in the tub.

"Pervert," Rei muttered, getting out of the bed and crossing to the bathroom. The tub had fresh, hot water in it again, and the sent of roses flowed in the air. Rei took off the long night shirt he had worn; he had found it underneath the dressing gown (i.e. bath robe).

Rei took a quick bath, he washed his hair and his body before getting out of the water and wrapping a towel around himself.

"Done? Here then," that same disembodied said, then, clothes were suddenly set down on the low table that held the towels.

"Kai wants you to meet him in the library after you have eaten, please, don't take much longer," the blond boy said, disappearing but the feeling that he was still being watched, made Rei shiver again.

Rei picked up the clothes, the first item was a pair of baggy dark red pants, next was a long tunic, made of the same dark red fabric. The fabric was silk and must have cost a lot. Rei put the clothes on, and then he entered back into the bedroom.

A tray of hot beef soup, with fresh fruit stood on a table that Rei hadn't remembered seeing there before. Coffee was also on the tray as well. Rei quickly brushed his hair out and plaited it before eating the food. He hurried through the breakfast since the being was wishing to take him to Kai. Who Rei could only guess was Count Hiwatari.

Rei followed the bouncing apparition; it lead him down the faintly lit stair way, and down the hall to the dinning room Rei had eaten in the night before. Then, the front hallway, and up the stairs to the second level of the house; Rei remembered seeing them the night before.

Rei followed the floating head of….whoever it was, it hit Rei then that he didn't know who was leading him.

"Umm…I'm sorry but, I don't know you're name, mine is…"

"Rei Kon, I know," said the blond ghost.

"I'm Max Tate, just call me Max," said the blond boy.

"Than, I'm just Rei," Rei replied with a smile.

"We're here," Max said suddenly, stopping front of twin doors with the emblem of a Phoenix on it.

"This is the library, Kai's favorite place to be," Max said happily.

"Oh, is he in there?" Rei asked.

"Go on, Kai gets angry when he is made to wait way too long, and trust me, he has waited WAAAY to long for this," Max said, he then disappeared, again. Rei shook his head, he then pushed the door way open, it swung wide, and Rei walked quietly into the room.

The room was dark; the curtains were closed across what Rei thought was a window, the only light in the room, was what came from the fire in the fire place, and the torches that were scattered all over the room.

"Hello there, young one," someone with a sultry voice said from behind Rei. Rei yelped and turned around, to see a man, dressed in black pants, and a black muscle shirt, standing there. He had two toned hair and umber eyes.

"Hi," Rei replied lamely, the man didn't say anything more, but he circled around Rei, he gripped the base of his braid, and pulled the young boy up against his chest.

"Hmm….you smell great," the man said.

"Umm…you're Count Hiwatari…right?" Rei asked.

"Why yes, I'm glad you remembered my name, about are Rei Kon, nice to meet you," Kai replied.

"Count, I.." Rei started.

"Please, call me Kai," was the reply.

"Kai, I'm sorry I took so long," Rei apologized, the man seemed to be to interested in his raven hair to reply. Kai smelled the boy in front of him, then took the end of the braid and started to play with it.

"Not a problem, it must take forever to comb this out," Kai said, undoing the end of the braid then taking the plait apart with his hands, finally the hair lay across Rei's shoulder like dark silk.

"Umm…sometimes if I get to impatient," Rei replied, Kai continued to comb his fingers through the silk. Rei closed his eyes and leaned into the touch.

"What/ wait, you said you wanted to talk about something," Rei said, turning around to face Kai, who gripped tightly at the young boys hair and pulled.

"Ouch, sorry," Rei said, squeezing his eyes, willing the tears of pain away.

"I need a donor," Kai said.

"What? Excuse me?" Rei almost yelled. Kai yanked the boys hair again which made Rei yelp in pain.

"Please let go?" Rei asked, in a whisper this time.

"Will you stay, here with me?" Kai asked.

"I…don't know," Rei replied, Kai smoothed raven hair from Rei's neck and ran his fingers over the tan skin. Rei shivered at the touch.

"I can't, I need to go home," Rei said, bowing his head.

"But, can't this be you're home?" Kai asked, raising his hand to Rei's chin and lifting so that he could see the boys eyes.

"I..I…I can't," Rei stuttered, Kai's grip on his face became steel.

"I can't accept that," Kai whispered huskily.

"But, what about my family?" Rei asked.

"They don't need to know," Kai replied, then turned to the fire.

"I refuse to let you leave, you will see my way of things soon," Kai said, it was an order and Rei knew it.

"But, why take me away from what I know? My friends? My family?" Rei asked.

"Haven't you ever though about leaving them before?" Kai asked.

"I wasn't thinking then," Rei replied.

"I gave my order, you aren't to go outside, I will find you if you do," Kai growled.

"Very well," Rei replied, and silence lapped into the room.

"Come, sit by the fire," Kai said, it was an order and Rei quickly came to stand besides Kai. The Vampiric Russian sat in one of the chairs and waved for Rei to sit at his feet. Rei did so, Kai gently lay the boys head on his knee and ran his hand through the black mass of silk.

"You can't keep me here," Rei said quietly.

"I can," was all that Kai said, and silence was heard once again.
