Chapter Four
An old Friend within a new Evil
Kai sat under his favourite tree as he lazily watched the clouds overhead. The day so far was going by so slowly that it was driving Kai crazy. All he could think about was being with Tyson again and he was sitting in computer class right now. Kai couldn't explain why it was that he was so restless. He had been away from Tyson for three years and he never felt like this before. It was like someone was nagging on him to go and find Tyson and be with him.
Kai sighed heavily as he closed his eyes and leaned against the tree. It was a beautiful warm day and it was so peacefully silent that Kai found himself trying not to fall asleep. He didn't know how long he had been sitting there but it felt like someone was watching him. Kai brushed off the feeling as he let himself relax further into his own thoughts. And then it was there again. The feeling that someone was watching him.
Kai opened his eyes slowly and looked almost directly into a pair of big ice blue eyes. "ARGH!" Kai jumped away from the person and suddenly the sound of giggling filled the air. Kai grabbed at his heart as he glared at the owner of the blue eyes.
"I was wondering how long it would take you to realize that you were not sitting here alone," Kaida was sitting on her knees across from Kai. Her long hair pooled on the ground behind her as her hands rested gracefully in her lap.
"What in God's name are you doing here?! I thought you would be in class," Kai composed himself as he leaned against the tree again.
"I do not have class right now. The only class that was open during this time period was computers I had no idea what they were when Takao and I were filling out our schedules. So I didn't take it. Thus I now have a spare during this period."
"So you came and sot me out?" Kai brushed his hair out of eyes as he stared into Kaida's.
"Actually Kai I came to find a quiet place to sit and relax. I figured that this would be the quietest place on the grounds since that street is on the side of the building. But those… cars?…" Kai nodded, "Those cars are still really loud."
Kai tilted his head as he looked at Kaida. She looked sad. She never once broke eye contact with Kai as they stared at each for a few minutes. Kai couldn't believe that she hadn't looked away yet. Here he was, the prince of ice, staring into the very soul of Kaida and she was staring right back.
"Kaida are you happy here?" Kai asked before he could even stop himself.
"I can not say that I am unhappy here. There are just so many things here that I do not understand. Takao fits right in but I feel that everyone is always watching me."
"Well a lot of people are watching you Kaida. You don't look like someone from around here."
"What do you mean Kai?" Kaida shifted her weight so that she was sitting on her bottom with her legs off to the side.
"Well look at you. Your hair and eyes are not of a natural colour. At least not a colour that people are used to seeing here. Plus you're pretty tall for a girl, you're lean, you're fit, and I have to say quiet beautiful."
Kaida smiled at Kai and Kai was surprised that she wasn't blushing. Actually now that Kai thought about it he had never seen Kaida blush. She was blunt, extremely truthful, told it like it was and wasn't afraid to talk back to anyone or to act how she felt. Kai stared at Kaida as she looked up at the sky and watched the cloud dance across the sky.
"Kaida there is something I would like to know and you don't have to tell me it you don't want to but I would like it if you did."
Kaida looked away from the sky and blinked at Kai, "What would you like to know? I will answer to the best of my abilities."
"You are an enigma to me. I look at Tyson and I can why he is the way he is but I look at you and I don't understand anything."
"I don't think I follow. How am I an enigma? Is it because we have only just met?"
"Well yeah, for starters, I mean just before Tyson left I learned that he had an older brother. Of course he let it slip but I still learned that he had a brother. But he never once mentioned a cousin."
"That is because Takao did not know that I existed. Actually none of the Kinomiya family, that lived here in Bay City, knew that I existed." Kai gave Kaida a quizzical look, "Okay how to explain this."
Kaida raised her hand to her chin and her eyes glassed over as she was deep in thought. Kaida clapped her hands together and smiled. "All right I think that I found a way to explain. First off my father was Takao's father's brother. And my mother was a maiden of the Clan. I don't remember my parents at all because they died when I was two years old. But from what the Elders tell me I look a lot like my mother. Anyways my father chose to live with the Clan but my Uncle, Takao's father, wished to try and live a normal life.'
`Since my father didn't think that that was a good idea he stopped speaking with his brother and told the Elders that they were not to tell Takao's father about his life. So when I was born the other Kinomiya were not told that I existed. Plus I was not a pure Kinomiya so the Elders felt that it was not necessary to tell the other Kinomiya."
"What do you mean not a true Kinomiya?"
"Well my mother was only a maiden and she was maiden from another Clan who had come to live with the people of the air. Come to think of it I don't know what Clan she was from…" Kaida looked puzzled for a moment but continued, "Since my mother was not from the Clan of Air they others didn't think that she was good enough for a true Kinomiya. But my father loved my mother and he didn't care what the others thought. You can tell by my colouring that I am not a true Dragon."
"You lost me again. Your colouring?"
"Yeah. Well think of Takao. What colouring is he?"
Kai thought about it for a moment and it finally dawned on him that she was probably talking about hair and eye colour. "Do you mean Tyson's hair and eye colour?" Kaida nodded, " Well Tyson has blue eyes and blue black hair."
"Exactly! All true Kinomiya have blue eyes and blue hair. But look at me. I have ice blue hair and eyes. That means that my blood is half and half. If my mother were a true member of the Clan of Air I would have the same colourings as Takao. But since I don't I am not a true Kinomiya."
"And it matters if you are a true Kinomiya or not?"
"Well to some of the Elders it does but not the one that raised me. See the others turned their backs to me because when my mother and father died they felt that I was just a waste of time. But Yasuo-sama thought that I was well worth the time and took me under his wing. The others came around later when they saw the power that I wielded and when my destiny was proclaimed they came running to me."
Kaida brushed a stray hair between her ear and Kai stared at Kaida dumb founded. "Your destiny was proclaimed?"
"My fate in the stars. All Dragon's fate's are in the stars and when your star shines your destiny becomes clear. My destiny is to protect Takao. I will do whatever is in my power to protect Takao. I would give my life for him."
"So you believe in destiny?! You believe that you are not in charge of your own future?" Kai was getting angry with Kaida for being stupid. How could she live like this? Thinking that her future was already planned out for her.
"I can't say that I believe or disbelieve in destiny or fate Kai. To many people they mean many different things. I believe that I was born to this world to do something great and I also believe that it is my job to protect Takao for he is someone very important to this world. I also believe that there is an ultimate goal set before me. A fate or a destiny as some would call it. But it is my choices and decisions that lead me to that end. No stars or prophecies can control ones free will. Our lives are what we make of it. And I chose to believe that to protect Takao is my ultimate fate."
Kai sat staring at Kaida dumb founded yet again. He couldn't believe that she was actually related to Tyson. She was wise beyond her years and she actually made him, Kai, think about what he thought fate and destiny were. "You seem so sure of yourself and yet you still look unhappy to me."
"I miss the world that I left behind. I am not used to all the loud noises that are here. I miss waking in the morning to the sounds of the streams, the rustle of the leaves and singing of birds. Here the cars and people are so loud. It is as if they are yelling at each all the time. The buildings are so huge that they touch the sky. My world was all I knew. And then suddenly Takao shows up and tells me all about the outside world and then three years later I am walking with Takao towards it. I am not unhappy or happy. I think I am out of my league."
Kai opened his mouth to reply when he suddenly heard a very familiar sound. Kai looked around the area for the source of the noise and his eyes landed upon a silver streak coming towards them. It was moving so fast across the grass it was actually ripping it up it in wake. Kaida turned and held out her hand. The silver streak skipped off a rock and launched itself into Kaida's out stretched hand.
"Is that what I think it is?" Kai leaned forward as Kaida opened her hand. Kai grinned as he saw that Kaida was now holding a silver coloured beyblade in her hand. It was like nothing he had ever seen. It looked smaller then his Dranzer but the power that he felt coming from it was amazing to say the least.
"Kai I would like you to meet Orrin. My bit beast, my beyblade, and my best friend." Kaida held out her hand to Kai and he took the beyblade from Kaida.
It was light and quiet cool to the touch. It glistened and gleamed in the sunlight. It had a very unusually attack ring. It looked like it was an attack ring combined with a defence ring. But what really drew Kai's attention was the bit piece in the middle. It was the most unique looking white, silver, and blue dragon he had ever seen.
"Wow Kaida I have never seen a bit beast like this before. He looks so different from Dragoon." Kai turned the beyblade over in his hand to fully examine it.
"Of course Orrin looks different then Dragoon. All Dragons are different even if they are of the same species." Kai handed Kaida back her beyblade and she smiled as she gently rubbed her thumb over the bit beast.
Kaida stood up and brushed off her skirt. "Well Kai I should get going. Orrin came to tell me that someone is coming towards the school and that I am needed to check them out. I don't think it is anything but if Orrin came to get me it must be important."
Kai quickly stood up and followed after Kaida. "Do you mind if I follow Kaida?"
Kaida gestured for Kai to walk with her. They walked in silence down the slope and to the east edge of the school grounds. Kai kept looking around as if something was going to jump out of the trees and try and kill them. Kai smirked to himself at the crazy images that were dancing through his head. Ever since Tyson came back he had been thinking a lot of crazy things.
Kaida suddenly stopped and Kai almost walked right into her. The wind suddenly picked up and Kaida's eyes flashed silver. Kai looked up at the sky and saw the clouds were suddenly starting to change from a soft white to a deep grey to a black. Kai looked at Kaida and just barely got out of the way as she started to crackle with electricity.
"Kaida?! What's wrong?"
Kaida glanced at Kai, or at least he thought she did since she no longer had pupils. "Go and find Takao. Get him home."
"Kaida what is going on?"
"Now Kai!" Lightning streaked the sky as Kaida yelled at Kai. Kai turned and ran towards the school as fast as he could. The only thought running through his head was to get to Tyson as fast as he could.
***
Tyson had been staring down into the courtyard for the past thirty minutes. He could just make out Kai sitting under a tree and Kaida coming up to him and scaring the hell out of him. They had been sitting under the tree for a while now and they looked like they were getting along.
"Kinomiya I would like you to please pay attention. We are going to be having a quiz at the end of the class."
Tyson jumped and blushed when everyone started to laugh at him. Tyson waited till the professor was sitting before he turned to Kenny, who was typing at the speed of light, and gently nudged him in the ribs. Kenny jumped and glared at Tyson.
"What Tyson!? I am working here," Kenny turned back to his computer and continued what he was doing.
"Chief what are we doing? I wasn't paying attention." Kenny sighed and Tyson grinned.
"I thought you changed but I guess I was wrong," Kenny stopped typing and leaned over and looked at Tyson's screen. "Okay this is what we are doing…"
Tyson and Kenny were so emerged in their work that when the class was announced over Tyson and Kenny were still working. It wasn't until Hilary scared them both did they realize that the class was over. Tyson packed up his bag, saved his work, and turned off his computer as he stood up and walked out of class with everyone else.
"Hey I thought that we were going to be having a quiz?!" Tyson stopped half way down the hall as he looked at everyone.
"Well we were going to but the professor saw that you were working your little heart out and decided that we didn't need to have one. I think she was just saying that because you weren't paying attention again. What were you doing?" Hilary turned and placed her hands on her hips.
"I was watching Kai and Kaida out the window," Rei was instantly at his side.
"Kaida was out the window and you didn't tell me?" Rei glared at Tyson and Tyson glared right back.
"They were sitting in the courtyard by the tennis court."
"WHAT?!"
Tyson covered his ears as Kenny yelled. "What is the big deal Chief?"
"The courtyard by the tennis is like 1.5 km awhile. How could you tell it was them?"
"I have really good eye sight Chief. Anyway I'm hungry and Kai and Kaida will be making there…" Tyson suddenly felt Kaida. She was mad. Tyson could feel her power building. Tyson closed his eyes and when he opened them they were glowing blue.
"Tyson…"
"Something is wrong." Tyson ran to the window as a storm was brewing.
Everyone in the hall were running to the windows and watching the storm. Tyson could just hear the murmurs of everyone around him. "It was so nice a minute ago." "Look at the wind!" "Where did this storm come from?" Tyson leaned against the window and looked around the schoolyard. He couldn't see Kaida anymore. But he could sense her to the east.
"TYSON!" Tyson jumped and looked down the hall and say Kai running towards him. He looked out of breath as he came to stop before him.
"Kai where is Kaida?" Tyson blinked hard a couple of times but his eyes just wouldn't return to normal. "Kai?"
Kai reached forward and grabbed Tyson's wrist and pulled him, forcibly, down the hall. Tyson pulled against Kai as they made their way through the crowds of people trying to get outside to watch the storm. Tyson kept his head downcast as he couldn't seem to get his eyes to return to normal and that only meant one thing.
"Kai let me go!! I need to get to Kaida. She needs me." Kai just kept pulling Tyson along. Tyson was beyond pissed off now. Kai was refusing to speak to him and he was holding his wrist painfully tight.
Kai kicked open the fire escape door and pulled Tyson through. Tyson had finally had enough and shocked Kai. Kai yelped and let go of Tyson. Before Kai could even react Tyson took off in the direction of the tennis court and the power that he was sensing. The winds were picking up and Tyson had to fight his way across the courtyard. Kaida must be really mad if she is causing all this. What if something is wrong with her? What if she is attacked?
Tyson froze when he heard a howl pierce the air. He knew that voice and what it meant. Kaida was in a battle. If she shifts the whole school will be destroyed. I can't let that happen! Tyson made to ran forward but was grabbed from behind. Tyson struggled and ended tripping his capture and himself. They landed in a tangled heap on the ground. Tyson tried to pull away but was pinned, with his hands above his head, to the ground. Tyson looked right into the face of a concerned and out of breath Kai.
"Tyson I am to take you home and that is where we are going! Kaida can handle herself and if you go there I know that she will be trying to protect you and not battling to her full potential."
"Kai listen to me. Kaida is changing and if she does she will end up destroying the school and maybe even attacking the students. I need to get to her and stop her from shifting. I will explain everything later but right now Kaida needs me. Please Kai!"
Kai looked away from Tyson and towards where he had last seen Kaida. All that he could see now were flashes of light and strange moving shadows. Kai could also hear the clash of bey blades.
"Kai please," Tyson wasn't above begging and he needed to get Kai to let him go. The last thing Tyson wanted was to hurt Kai but he was walking on thin ice. Tyson was about to shock Kai again when he let Tyson go and helped him to his feet.
"What do we need to do Tyson?" Tyson grinned and quickly hugged Kai before grabbing his hand and running towards the sounds and lights of the battle.
***
Kai knew that Kaida was going to yell at him for this but he couldn't say no to Tyson. And after seeing the strange things that were happening so far he knew in his heart that Tyson was the one that could help. Kai pulled Tyson up and after a quick hug they were running towards the place that Kai had left Kaida.
It was like something from a sci-fi movie. It was as if the shadows were alive and they were all attacking Kaida and her blade, Orrin. Orrin was holding his own and Kaida was moving so quickly that Kai couldn't seem to focus on her movements. Kai looked over at Tyson and saw that he was watching everything. His head moving ever so slightly at every move that Kaida made.
Kai nearly jumped out of his skin when Kaida landed right in front of them and blocked one of the shadows that were coming straight at them. Kai didn't even notice the shadow until Kaida appeared. She looks almost God like. I have never seen anything like this before. She has such concentration that she is keeping Orrin spinning at incredible speeds while she is attacking. I can feel the electricity coming from her all over my skin!
"Kai I told you to get Takao out of here and what do you do?! You bring him to the battle! Get him out of here!" Kaida growled as she blocked another shadow that was aimed right at Tyson. Kai gasped when he saw Kaida's skin. It was starting to shimmer and looked almost scale like. The unearthly glow about her was making her appear more and more reptilian. Her eyes were glowing with such an intense silver that it was hurting Kai's eyes to look at her.
"I am not leaving Kaida. Can't you see what is happening? You need to calm down or you will shift. Do you really want that to happen?! You will end destroying everything around here if you do!"
Kaida turned and snarled at Tyson and Tyson snarled right back. "I know what I am doing Takao now get the hell out of here before they get you!"
Kai reached over and grabbed a hold of Tyson's hand. "I think she is right Tyson. You need to get out of here before something happens. I don't think you have to worry about her `shifting' or whatever it was that you were talking about. She can…" Kai heard a blood curdling scream and just pulled Tyson out of the way as Kaida was thrown right at them.
Tyson broke free of Kai and ran to her side. "Kaida are you okay?! Oh my God!!" Kai ran over and knelt down beside Tyson and Kai instantly felt sick to his stomach. One of the shadows had managed to beat her defence and sliced open her side. It was bleeding pretty badly but the cut itself didn't look that deep.
Tyson ripped off his shirt and used it as a pressure bandage on Kaida's wound. Kaida's eyes were slowly dimming and she closed her eyes. Kai placed Kaida's head in his lap as Tyson treated her wound. "How is she Tyson?"
"I am fine Kai. This is just a scratch." Kai nearly jumped away from Kaida when she spoke. When she opened her eyes they were back to their original colour and shape. "Takao please get out of here. I can't fight and watch over you at the same time."
"Kaida I can handle myself you know! I have been training along side you for three years. I think I know how to…"
"Kinomiya…"
Tyson glanced forward and saw that the shadow's had pooled together and were forming into a shape of some kind. Kai was entranced at the sight he was seeing. The shadows were moving to and fro and swirling together to create a large shadow creature. The shadow flashed a deep violet and when the light sub sided a tall well built man was standing before them.
Kai looked at Tyson when he heard him growling deep in his throat. This guy was even giving Kai a bad feeling and he had no idea what the hell was going on. His voice and appearance were from something that looked like a dream and sounded like a nightmare. His looks were the dream and his voice was the nightmare and yet Tyson glared right into the creature's eyes as he came closer and closer.
"After many years of searching I have finally found what I was looking for…"
"Get lost you freak!" Tyson barked back. Tyson's eyes were flashing blue and silver as if a storm was raging within him.
"Now my dear Takao is that anyway to speak to an old friend. After all it was not long ago that you were training with me…"
Kaida slowly sat up and snarled at the man that was but ten feet away from them. "I can't believe you. We trusted you and then you turned out to be working for the Osario all this time! How could you!"
The creature laughed darkly as he stopped walking towards them. "I thought that the answer to that would be an easy one to figure out. Why should the greatest power in the world be locked up inside this boy when that power should be mine. And mark my words Kaida I always get what I want…"
Kaida stood up as her eyes flashed silver again. "Then you will have to go through me! ORRIN!" Kai jumped back as Orrin came flying out of nowhere and was now spinning between Kaida and the creature. Kai stood up and stood in front of Tyson. There was no way in hell they were going to get their hands on Tyson.
"Kaida I don't intend to go through you. I intend to consume you…"
Kai didn't have time to blink as the shadows shot up from under Kaida and wrapped themselves around her trapping her within their depths. "KAIDA!!" Tyson jumped forward and touched the now pulsating black orb that contained his cousin. The orb shot Tyson back and he landed hard on the ground, wincing in pain. Kai knelt down beside Tyson and helped him to his feet.
"My hand… it's numb…" Kai held Tyson's hand and gently rubbed it in hopes of getting the feeling back into Tyson's hand.
"Now I hold the power! So Kinomiya what are you going to do?"

Nia: Hee Hee Hee!!! A Cliffie. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. It would really make my day if you would review. I would love to know what you all think of my story so far.
Tyson: O_O!!!! What the hell did you do to Kaida!!!
Kai: I was just starting to tolerate her and you pull something like this!
Nia: Yup!! *laughs evilly as she plots the next chapter* Glomps Everyone!!
