Ch1

“Papa,” Rei Kon whispered, “please don't die.”

Raul Kon shuddered on his deathbed. Rei traced his fingers over his father's face.

“Keep your stepmother and stepbrother and stepsister safe,” he rasped, “Good-bye my son.”

Raul Kon then died.

That was a long time ago, Rei thought as he cleaned off the table, The only time I was happy was when father was alive.

“Rei!” came the screeching voice of his stepmother, Olga, “Bring me my tea!”

Rei sighed, why had his father taken the two of them to Russia? It had been Hell since day one. His stepbrother, Bryan, was the only good part. HE was not as bad as his stepmother or stepsister Katia.

“Rei!”

Rei put a kettle of water over the fire and started looking for tea leaves.

Kai Hitawari, Prince of Russia, was in distress. His parents, King and Queen Hitawari, were trying to make him get married.

“Mother,” Kai said quietly, “Let me choose my own love, my own way.”

“No,” his mother said, “you really should do this.”

“NO,” Kai responded forcefully, “I will not have a ball!”

And with that, he stormed out of the palace.

“Come one Rei,” Bryan hissed angrily, “Before the others get mad.”

“Yes Bryan,” Rei said dutifully, “I'm coming.”

Together they looked for the others.

When they got to Olga and Kaitia, things were not good.

They were both mad because Rei was not there to carry their things.

“Mother,” Bryan said quietly, “I told him to come with me. Do not punish him.”

Olga stared at Rei and Bryan before saying, “Okay Bryan. Come on Rei.”

Rei picked up his family's things and looked around.

They had gone ahead of him!

“Great,” Rei muttered, pushing his hair wrap back behind his shoulder, “This should be fun.”

“Do you need any help?”

Rei turned around and saw a young man staring at him.
`Sorry,” Rei stuttered, “What did you say?”

The man shook his head and repeated, “Do you need any help?”

Rei found himself staring into the man's crimson eyes and said, “I don't want to bother you sir.”

“It's okay,” the man said, “My name's Kai, what's yours?”

Rei gasped, the Prince's name was Kai! He was talking to the Prince of Russia!

“Rei Kon,” Rei whispered softly, “You don't have to help me sir. I will be fine.”

“Suit yourself,” Kai retorted curtly, “Rei Kon.”

Kai walked away, leaving Rei alone and confused.
