CHAPTER 10: It all fell apart…

Tala touched the dried blood on his nose, and discovered it wasn't completely dried. He shook his head miserably at the thought of Boris's new game. Since Damien had joined Boris was acting significantly different toward himself, Ian and Brian. But Tala didn't like it at all, because naturally it came around to bite him in the ass.
After the days training session where Boris had wanted Damien to try out his angel type bit beast, Boris had summoned Tala to his office where Tala got a few slaps and punches for Ian's weaknesses. Despite the fact that Ian had naturally defeated Damien with his more that powerful Wyborg bit beast, Boris claimed that he had seen flaws in Ian's bey battle teqniques and had blamed Tala who was the captain.
And when Tala had commented that he didn't know he was still captain, naturally thinking that Kai had long since adopted that title, Boris had become angry. Tala figured it was probably because he was right, but never the less Boris had beaten him.
Of course there was no chance that he would cry in front of Boris, even though most of the time that was Boris's goal.
Tala sighed at his miserable excuse for an existence; he was sixteen so he would still be there for a long while, but after what was done to Spencer. Tala was afraid to have to leave. What a paradox, his head was even hurting.

The door of the room opened, he would no longer refer to it as his because now he shared. Damien walked in and went to his bed. Tala was sitting at the window, which was near Damien's bed, so Damien was slightly cautious.
Damien had seen during bey practise that Tala was less than friendly, shouting in Russian at his team mates.

Tala watched Damien carefully; he could laugh at how clueless he was. Tala looked out the window,
Tala- “Do you like it here Damien?” he asked in clear English.
Damien seemed slightly shocked at the strike of conversation; he stood still and looked at Tala staring out the window. He frowned at the blood on Tala's nose and above his eye.
Damien- “Uh, yeah, I guess its cool.” His American accent irritated Tala.
Tala laughed softly to himself,
Tala- “Well, can'treally blame you, you don't know any better. But you should have stayed in America thatwould've been smart. Stay where it's safe…like Kai…” he said the last part softly.
Damien frowned at the name he just managed to catch,
Damien- “Who's Kai?” he asked Tala softly.

Tala looked at Damien with those piercing blue eyes, tear lined and full of anger,
Tala- “You're his replacement Damien…because his gone…” Tala swallowed the lump in his throat, not raising his voice, but his anger was clear as the sky in those sky blue eyes.
Damien was highly confused and a little worried at Tala's angry face,
Damien- “Is that why you don't like me, because I took your friends place?” he had to ask and Tala smiled characteristically of his cyber enhances, simple but evil,
Tala- “You'll know when I don't like you.” Tala's threat was amazingly obvious and he moved from the window and headed out of the room.

Tala stormed out into the passage, what was that he'd felt a moment ago. It was as if something shifted in his mind…but that couldn't be happening, not again, he had broken away from the cyber enhancements.
Tala started shaking from fear because he knew he had felt a familiar feeling of data processing, he knew it was coming back, and Boris was undoubtedly responsible. Tala slumped against the wall and slid to the cold floor,
Tala- “Not this…not know…I cant deal with this…” he felt the tears run out of his eye's and he cried sitting with his arms on his knees and his face buried in his arms.

He heard footsteps along the passage,
Boris- “Is there a problem dear boy?” Boris's voice drained the last of Tala's resistance and Tala started crying more. He looked up through blurry eyes at Boris whose evil eyes were hidden behind those goggles.
Tala- “What are you doing to me Boris?” he managed to say.
Boris smirked and bent to help Tala up. Tala just allowed himself to be lifted to his feet. And then he leaned against the wall and didn't look at Boris.
Boris- “Perhaps you should come with me Tala. There is something that we should discuss.” He sounded kind and Tala's stomach turned at Boris sick two faced appearance. But Tala did nothing as Boris placed a hand on his shoulder and led him along the passages.

They arrived at Boris's office and Boris sat Tala in the seat across from his desk. Boris sat down and looked at Tala's miserable tear streaked face.
Boris- “You know I don't approve of crying Tala. I suggest you sort yourself out.” He said, still kindly.

Tala simply wiped his damp cheeks with his sleeve and then sniffed and continued staring into space. Boris cleared his throat,
“Well, are you hungry? Would you like something to eat?” Boris received a laugh for his hospitality.
Tala- “What do you want Boris? To poison me?” he shook his head.
Boris- “Very well. Shall we get on with it?” Boris sat back and folded his hands together.
Boris- “What do you think of Damien?” he asked smiling.
Tala sighed,
Tala- “I think his an idiot…sir.” Tala answered and Boris smiled.
Boris- “Can'tyou tell what'shappening to you Tala? Can you hear yourself…your cyber self, your defiant self?”

Tala sat a moment and realised Boris was right. But Tala didn't care at all at that moment. And it felt so good not to care. Tala smiled, his cyber smile, so sly and malicious.
Boris- “Very good, I see that you've acceptedit. I reactivated it this morning. After our little…discussion. I felt you were losing your edge. Your grip on your team Tala. They were always your team after all.” He smiled at the flash of familiarity went over Tala's young bruised features.

Boris sat forward,
Boris- “Clean yourself up Tala, and resume your place as Captain…of the Blitzkrieg Boys. Take this…” Boris pulled a beyblade out of his drawer, modified and shiny brand new.
Boris- “Treat Wolborg to a new blade.Tomorrow you will train…you will verse Damien.” He saw a glint of sadism in Tala's icy eyes.

Tala reached across the desk and took the beyblade and gripped it tight in his hand.
Boris- “Yes sir.” He said in a respectful tone and he left.
Boris grinned at his achievement. Soon everything would fall into place.

Kai stared at his grandfather's steady mask of finality.
Kai- “No, you can'tdo that!” he said loudly.
Voltaire- “I can and I'm going to.” Voltaire said patiently.
Kai gritted his teeth,
Kai- “Who will you choose?” he asked panicked.
Voltaire frowned at Kai's worried expression,
Voltaire- “What does it matter to you Kai?”
Kai- “Just answer please!” he tried to calm down.
Voltaire sighed now becoming irritated,
Voltaire- “I'll just recruit someone, overlooking the abbey isn't at all that big a job. There are plenty of qualified people in Russia.”

Kai shook his head. He knew what would happen if Voltaire just chose some random guy. Boris would pay him off to keep his mouth shut and then continue all the dirt he was doing behind those abbey walls. Kai shook his head again, that couldn't happen to Tala anymore, he wouldn't let it.
Kai- “You said it'snot hard to do…so let me do it!” Kai looked hopefully at his grandfather who sat behind his study desk. Voltaire looked strangely at Kai,
Voltaire- “But why?” he had to ask.
Kai faltered, what was he supposed to say. Voltaire would laugh if Kai voiced his concerns about his team mates, about Tala.
Kai- “Because…I've been so out of it for so long…I want some kind of responsibility, some kind of power.” Kai lied convincingly; his power hungry look in his eyes matched his voice.
Voltaire thought about it a moment, Kai was power hungry, and with Kai running the abbey, it would take the attention off Boris long enough for Voltaire to deal harshly with him. Voltaire smiled at Kai,
Voltaire- “Very well, I hand over the abbey for you to over see Kai. I trust you will keep everything within regulation?”

Kai smiled,
Kai- “There is no other way to go.” Was his response before he left his grandfathers study.

It was perfect, the tables had turned and now Kai would be in control of Boris. Not only would this keep Tala and his team mate's safe, but it would be so much fun!
Kai had been recovering rapidly after his hospital treatments. Also because of his regulated diet his own immune and body healing had naturally taken its course. He was better and he hardly had any pain, save for a few headaches or random leg cramps.
Kai was going to arrange everything at that moment, his new place in the abbey as well as a new room. And then he'd stay there, and he would run the abbey, according to his regulation.
By the time Damien had woken the next morning which was at 4am, the room was empty. This created quite a panic in Damien and he rushed down to the team training room.

He walked into the dark room and as he stepped in the bright lights switched on. He got a shock to find Tala, a sly smirk on his face, standing across the bey dish in the floor. Damien looked at Brian and Ian behind Tala. Neither looked happy, and Ian looked worried every time he glanced at Tala.
Tala- “You know Damien…here at the abbey…punctuation is vital.” Tala said quietly, the sly smirk turned into a grin as he reached into his pocket. Damien frowned,
Damien- “Yeah, well, I'm just tryna' get used to the schedule.” He reasoned watching Tala clip his blade onto his launcher.
Tala- “Oh, and what's on you `schedule' for today?” Tala looked at Damien, empty blue eyes wide. Before Damien could answer Tala spoke,
Tala- “Could you fit me in for a bey-battle?” Tala asked nicely.

Damien quickly took out his beyblade and placed it on his launcher. He looked at Tala's calm smile and raised his hands ready to launch. Tala lifted his hand and placed his finger on the trigger of his launcher,
Tala- “Are you ready…Damien? Can your little angel handle this? Dranzer could handle this…but can you?” Tala was talking more to himself and Brian's neck hair stood from that malicious look in Tala's eyes.

Without another word, Tala clicked the trigger and Wolborg shot into the dish. Damien had launched his blade as well and he sent the orange blade straight at Wolborg. Wolborg slipped out of the way and flicked off the side of the dish into the air. Tala grinned as Wolborg pile-drived the inferior blade and watched happily as a crack form on Damien's blade. Wolborg then spun around the dish a few times before running back and forth across the dish knocking Damien's blade wildly out of control.

Brain and Ian watched in awe, they could tell now that Wolborg was stronger than ever before. In a final smash of the two metal blades, the orange blade shattered apart, the bit lied in the dish, cracked. Brian looked at Tala who was still smiling. Tala had lost his respect for bit beasts, and he proved by ordering Wolborg to grind over the tiny fragile fragment over and over and till the glow died.
Tala looked up at Damien,
Tala- “Your pathetic, that should have been Dranzer…” he said in a horrible voice before turning to leave, simply pushing his team mates out of his way. Brian watched him leave and then followed. Ian stood watching Damien assess his destroyed blade sadly.

Brian- “Tala, what's…” Brain watched as Tala stood still and heard Tala mumble `compute data'. And Brian re-thought his question; he knew what was wrong with Tala.
Tala turned and looked at Brian who had an open look of realisation on his face. Tala smiled,
Tala- “If you and Ian don't up your game, I'll be forced to do that to you as well. So be a good team mate...and work on your shit bey blading.” Tala said in a condescending tone with a hint of degradation. Brian looked at the floor and he heard Tala's foot steps down along the passage.
Ian stepped out,
Ian- “Did you ask him what's wrong?” he looked at Brian's angry face.
Brian- “What's wrong…cyber Tala is back Ian. That's what's wrong.” He said softly and Ian felt his blood run cold.

During the time that Tala was cyber the first time, Tala had been ruthless. He even treated Brian, Ian and Spencer as if they were his lackeys. Tala acted a lot like Boris when he was cyber.
Ian- “What are we gonna do?” he didn't really expect an answer, and he didn't get one. Instead Brian just walked back into the training room; he had to do what Tala had ordered.

TWO WEEKS LATER

Boris looked at Kai as if he wanted to snap his neck and Kai only smiled.
Kai- “Yeah, I think the reality of your new situation is settling in. Now it'syour turn to play along Boris…and have I got a game for you.” Kai smiled at Boris's panicked expression.

Boris- “Alright Kai, you win this round. I Guess I really don't have a choice. And I can'tbribe you…not you the rich Kai Hiwatari. So, run the abbey…or over see, whatever…but I'll get my time back…sure enough…” Boris walked inside the abbey. Kai's bags were carried in and he smiled making his way inside. It was his time now.

Brian turned to Ian who was lying down. It was about 2am in the morning and he had been sitting at the window.
Brian- “Ian…Ian wake up…” he whispered loudly.
Ian irritably rolled over,
Ian- “What, I'm exhausted. Tala made me do 300 manual launches today…in a row...” he complained like a baby.
Brian- “Its Kai…Kai came back…and he doesn't look his here to be a Blitzkrieg Boy…”

Ian sat up and smiled happily, so unlike him,
Ian- “You mean?”
Brian- “That's right, I think his here to take over…cause' Boris didn't look happy at all…” he was smiling. Ian was too.

Brain felt a wave of relief and he decided he could sleep now and he walked over and jumped into his bed.
Kai was going to make everything alright.

THE NEXT MORNING

Brian sat up in his bed; it was light outside, which means he'd over slept. But that had never happened before, he look over at Ian who was sound asleep. He got up and rushed over,
Brain- “Ian? Ian!!” he shouted at the short boy.
Ian rolled over and frowned,
Ian-“What?”
Brian-“Look, its light out! We overslept…” he then saw the urgency on Ian's face and he jumped up and ran to the window.
Ian- “Brian, I think you should see this…” Ian sounded amazed.

Brian came and opened the large windows and he didn't believe what he saw. Out in the abbey's front yard were the abbeys children and they were loitering. No body ever loitered at Balvoc Abbey, it was so restricted it was almost a sin. Brian saw a boy that he knew and he shouted in Russian. The boy looked up and asked what was wrong, Brian asked what was going on and the answer he received made both Brian and Ian want to pinch themselves.
The boy had told Brian and Ian that the entire abbey had a month off and that a new more reasonable training regime was being made up. Brian didn't doubt that it was because of Kai. He grabbed Ian's arm,
Brian- “This is it Ian…it'slike a relief before freedom…no more Blitzkrieg Boys…and no more cyber Tala.” He had a genuine smile on his face before he let go of the short and still astonished boy and rushed into the bathroom.

Tala shook his head to try and relieve the headache he had. Boris had, in the last week, planted more upgrades to Tala's system and it was causing paralysing migraines.
Tala heard his room door open, yes his room, he had Damien shipped out as soon as he had gotten back to Boris on the battle results. He looked at the person standing and looking at him, but Tala's face help no expression.

Kai- “I've been looking for you.” he smiled at Tala.
Tala blinked at Kai in an uninterested fashion,
Tala- “Why, what can I do for you?” he said blandly.

Kai frowned at Tala, he was confused. There was something very different in those blue eyes that he remembered.
Kai- “Are you okay Tala?” Kai stepped closer.
Tala- “I'm perfect…in fact I'm even better now than I was before. Although I felt better when you weren't here.” Tala flashed that sly smile at Kai's hurt expression.
Kai- “Tala, cant you see what I've done? I'm back, I came back to help the team…to help you. To stop the madness and sickness that has been going on for too long!” Kai sounded angry and Tala laughed.
Tala- “All you've done is screwed a perfectly good months schedule.” He said coldly and he made his way to walk out.
But Kai grabbed his arm and stopped him,
Kai- “What's wrong with you Tala? Cant you see all I've gone through to get this right, to stop Boris…and its all been for you, because I was worried about you.” Kai explained.

A flash of emotion was seen in Tala's eyes before the angry scowl replaced it. Tala pulled his arm away form Kai,
Kai- “You shouldn't have bothered. After you left…I found a better way to get by…and it doesn't include YOU!” he shouted angrily and walked out slamming the door.

Kai felt a lump form in his throat, he was so unsure now, of everything. Tala had turned on him, Tala didn't trust him. All because he had to leave to make things right. Kai felt a single tear fall and he stopped himself. He promised himself he'd never cry in this abbey again, and he wouldn't dare. Kai walked out slamming the door himself, he knew that it had something to do with Boris, as everything else wrong in his and Tala's lives always did.
