Chapter Two - ... Of Trouble...
“Tyson, stop prancing around,” Kai muttered angrily. “You’re embarrassing us.”
It was true. Quite a number of people were staring at them.
“He’s right, Tyson,” Kenny said seriously. “Listen, you’d better stop fooling around. I just found out the Demolition Boys are competing, and they have a new captain I have absolutely no data on.”
“So what’s new?” Tyson said indifferently.
“Oh, puh-lease,” Hilary said in exasperation.
“And there’s this new team,” Kenny continued, determined to shock Tyson. “The Thunder Bolts. From what I heard, they’re a vicious bunch, and they don’t show any mercy.
That brought Tyson down to earth with an unpleasant bump. Literally. He had fallen off his seat. Max hid his laughter as he helped him up.
“The Bladebreakers will win,” Ray said confidently.
Kai sighed and walked away mutely, much to their exasperation.
“You know, we should get to the stadium,” Hilary said. “There’s a match in twenty minutes and it’ll help if we watch.”
“Good idea,” Tyson said excitedly. He jumped up, ran a few steps, and knocked into someone.
“Oh, hi, Tala,” Tyson said dully.
Tala glared at Tyson for a while, then shrugged slightly. “Hi yourself. And give this to Kai for me.” Tala handed Tyson a folded piece of paper. “Bye now.”
“Hey!” Tyson yelled. “How - “
Tala rounded on him. “Aren’t you guys friends with the White Tigers?”
“Yeah. Why?” Ray asked curtly.
“They’re going to be battling, wouldn’t you be watching?”
“Hey, if that’s them…” Tyson said.
“What are we waiting for, then?” Kenny exclaimed. “Let’s go!”
“Where?” Tyson asked, sounding positively confused.
“Idiot…”
.......
“Mr Dickenson!” the man frantically beckoned to the chairman of the BBA.
“What is it, Ron?” Mr Dickenson asked.
“Someone’s hacked into our computer system - and they stole information on bitbeasts!”
Mr Dickenson frowned. “Search for the culprit,” he ordered quickly. “Fast - those files can do a lot of harm if it falls into the wrong hands.”
He, of course, was thinking of Biovolt, but he had no idea that more than a hundred miles away, Boris had just found out that a computer had been hacked into - just as he’d expected.
......
The rest of the Bladebreakers found Kai sitting calmly in the stands, patiently waiting for the match, White Tigers versus Thunder Bolts. He looked quite amused when his teammates showed up, glowering.
“Nice job abandoning us, Kai,” Tyson congratulated him. “And we met Tala. He asked me to give this to you.” He held out the note.
“Thanks,” Kai said sarcastically. He took the note but didn’t seem to bother to read it.
“I didn’t read it,” Tyson assured him.
“Yeah, right,” Hilary scoffed. “You didn’t read it because it was in Russian and you didn’t understand it.”
“Whatever.”
“They sure fight a lot,” Max muttered to Ray mischieviously. “For a couple, I mean. Hopefully they’ll get used to it after they get married.”
Kai sighed inwardly as Tyson and Hilary prepared to wage World War III on Max and Ray. Fighting back an impulse to look as he heard a loud thud and a cry from Max, he unfolded the note slowly. The last sentence sprang out at him.
…Ken’s our captain. He’s good, really.
......
Welcome to the 2005 World Championships right here in Sydney, Australia! I’m sure you know who I am, but for the newbies, I’m Brad Best…
“Newbies?” Mariah said incredulously.
“Ignore him, sis,” Lee said with a chuckle. “You up for going first?”
“Yeah, sure,” Mariah said, glancing over her shoulder at the assembled Thunder Bolts. “No sweat.”
First one up from the Thunder Bolts is Rory, with his beyblade, Typhoon!
Rory was a surly boy with wild brown hair that reached to his waist. He looked confident as he stepped up to the dish.
And from the White Tigers, Mariah!
Mariah stared hard at Rory as she took her place at the dish. Not because she was rude, but he seem to be staring at ther so hard that his eyes seemed to bore a hole right through her.
3 - 2 - 1.. LET IT RIP!
Both beybladers launched forcefully, still glaring hard. Neither was backing down. Rory, if possible, seemed more arrogant.
“Women first.”
“I’m a girl, not yet a woman,” Mariah snapped.
“Girls first then.”
“My teammates call me a tomboy.”
“Well, tomboys first.”
“The tomboy’s stepping aside to let the sissy make the first move,” Mariah shot back at him.
“Very well then. Typhoon attack!”
“Show the sissy, Galux!” Mariah yelled. She grinned as her pink beyblade dodged Rory’s blue beyblade.
“Do it now,” the Thunder Bolts captain, Dock suddenly told Rory.
Rory gazed into Mariah’s eyes intently. “Typhoon Choker,” he said quietly. He raised a hand.
Mariah suddenly flinched. She didn’t know what, but something about Rory was wrong… definitely wrong. His pale blue eyes had turned into a blank void. He no longer had the same air about him…
She gasped. Something was curling around her neck, choking her. She glared at Rory. “You…
“Yes, me,” Rory said patiently. “Finish her, Typhoon.”
The blue beyblade smashed into the defenseless Galux. Galux shattered and bits flew everywhere. Mariah stared in horror as Glaux’s bit-chip glowed eeriely.
“Not again,” she moaned. Behind her, her teammates had just realized the first signs of trouble. Kevin was yelling something incohorent.
Rory smirked as his beyblade absorbed Galux. “You’re finished, girlie - huh?”
Something had blurred across the dish. Mariah staggered as Typhoon’s hold on her was violently cut.
For a moment there was silence. Then..
Boy, I’ve never seen anything like that before! The first round goes to the Thunder Bolts!
“Mariah!” Lee ran to her and helped her up. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine,” she replied dazedly. “Wow…”
......
The Demolition Boys gaped at their new captain, who was staring hard at his beyblade as they stood, quite hidden, behind a curtain on a balcony overlooking the stadium.
“You’re nuts,” Ian said finally.
Ken just continued staring at Black Dranzer.
“Hello, anybody home?” Tala said.
……………….
“Hello?” he tried again.
………………
“Listen,” Tala said angrily, “you can’t just intercept a match that way!”
Ken sighed and shoved his beyblade into a pocket. Then he strode away.
“OI!” Tala yelled.
“Let him be,” Spencer said, staring. “Give him a break.”
“What?”
“You don’t get it, do you?”
“How can I when you’re speaking that way?”
“Figure it out yourself.”
......
The White Tigers had called for timeout, and now were gathered in their preparation room. Mariah still looked a little pale.
“What happened back there?” Kevin asked.
“I don’t know,” Mariah answered, still sounding distant.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door. All four turned as one.
Lee got up and opened the door. Standing in the doorway was a boy, who looked to be slightly younger than Lee. He had long dark hair and was dressed entirely in black. “White Tigers?” he asked.
Lee nodded. “You want to come in?”
The boy cocked his head. “If I’m not disturbing.”
Lee brought him in, although he looked puzzled. “What’s your name?” he asked.
“Never mind that,” the boy said. “Mariah, how are you feeling?”
Mariah looked surprised. “Fine. How did you know-“
“World famous White Tigers,” the boy said with a small smile. Then he turned grim. “I would advise you to pull out, seeing Mariah’s condition.”
“Why?” Kevin asked. “What’s wrong with her?
The boy took out a PDA. “Look at this. Rory’s Typhoon is poisonous. She needs a hospital. Fast. And I’ve analysed the poison, she won’t be able to battle for quite some time.”
Lee took a look at Mariah. She did seem pale and sickly. “Is this all real?”
“I swear it is. Please consider my advice. I’ve called an ambulance.”
“Thanks,” Gary said gratefully. “We owe you one.”
The boy shrugged. “Right. Gotta go.”
“Thanks,” Lee called as he left. Then something hit him. He turned around swiftly. “Does that guy remind you of - “
“Kai,” Kevin finished for him.
“Tyson, stop prancing around,” Kai muttered angrily. “You’re embarrassing us.”
It was true. Quite a number of people were staring at them.
